Michael and Linc have been hiding out in Sara's apartment trying to keep semi quiet so none of her neighbours would know there was someone inside, cleaning the apartment for her and keeping the TV on (quietly) to keep updated on the FBI's movements; Sucre leaves not long after Sara goes to work at 7. After all he had heard about Maricruz, Michael really hopes it all works out for his friend.
Lincoln and Michael both panic when they hear the front door opening, Michael checks to clock, 9am, Sara shouldn't be home yet, unless something has gone terribly wrong. When Sara rounds the corner, the men let out an audible breath, "Hey," Michael smiles and moves to hug her, "what are you doing home so early? Is everything okay?" She can hear the anxiety in his voice, "Everything's okay, one of the agents questioned me, that was intense, then Henry told me and Katie to have a few days off. He's putting the prison on lock down, making sure no one else pulls a stunt like you," they all share a smile before she looks around, her smile turning into a confused frown, "Did you clean?"
"Yeah, we got bored." Linc states with a shrug.
"Thank you. Um, I bought Katie over; she figured it out about us." She sees both of their faces turn to complete panic, before she can give reassurances Michael asks, "Do you trust her?" Sara nods, "Well then I trust her too."
"Really?" Michael smiles and nods, earning a kiss before Sara goes to let Katie in.
"Are you sure Michael?" Linc asks, concerned. Michael only nods in response.
"Would you like a drink Katie?" Sara asks as the girls walk back into the room, Katie gives a slight smile to the boys.
"Water would be great, thank you." Before Sara can do anything Linc yells, "I'll get it!" before running to the kitchen, everyone chuckles at him enthusiasm. There is a moment of awkward silence before Michael speaks, "Thank you, Katie"
"For what?"
"For everything. Mainly for not calling the Feds when you found out where we were."
"Well, Sara filled me in on everything at work and on the way up here and to be honest, I can't say I blame you. More importantly though, Sara is my friend and I want her to be happy, and she is exactly that when she's around you Michael." He beams at her in response.
They all sit down, talk, laugh and get to know each other a little more; in the midst of one of Linc's stories of LJ as a baby, Sara's phone rings. She picks it up from the table and goes cold to the core, Michael notices her reaction, "who is it?"
"My father." Every stays silent as Sara answers the phone, "hi Dad."
"Sara, where are you?" Frank hastily asks.
"I'm at home, having a chat with Katie."
"What the hell happened at Fox River?"
"Don't you watch the news? Some inmates got out-" Frank cuts her off,
"I'm aware of that Sara, and what I find fascinating is Lincoln Burrows was one of them," Sara puts her phone on speaker so everyone can witness his rant, "the very same inmate that you asked me to look of his case, the same one you ask me to grant clemency to, I mean my god Sara, were you trying to make me look like an idiot?!" He finishes the question yelling, Sara's blood starts to boil.
"Did you even look at his case Dad?"
"You can't be serious Sara, he's a convicted criminal, he escaped from-"
"Answer the question?!" Sara yells.
"I didn't need to!"
"Well, tell me this then, did they promise you the vice presidency before or after you decided to leave an innocent man on death row?!" Frank stays silent, "yeah, that's what I thought. Goodbye Dad." She hangs up the phone, throwing is back on the coffee table, feeling her eyes burning with tears.
"You tried to get clemency for me?" Linc asks, resisting the strong urge to hug her.
"Yeah," she answers quietly, wiping away a stray tear, "Michael told me to look in between the lines of you case and I tried to get my father to see it as well."
"Thank you." Linc gives her a small smile.
After a few hours of chatting, Linc states suddenly, "I'm going to Veronica's."
"What?" Michael asks, he and Sara look at Linc, confused.
"She's still trying to find information to prove my innocence so I'm going to stay with her and help her."
"But Linc, the Feds will know your history with her and she's your lawyer, they probably expect you to go there." Michael says, worried.
"Not necessarily, at least one of the Agents has to be half intelligent and expects us to be halfway to the Border by now. Even if they haven't figured out your tattoo, they would have figured out some of your plans."
"Linc's right, the agent that questioned me was extreme; he looked at me like he knew I wasn't telling the whole truth." Sara nervously added.
"Exactly," Linc agrees, "Plus, I can't stay with you two any longer. Unless you get me some noise cancelling headphones, these walls aren't as thick as you think." He smirks as Michael and Sara both go bright red, earning a chuckle from Katie. "I'll be really careful, I promise."
They finally agree with Lincoln's logic, and after packing the few items he has, he hugs Michael and Sara and waves goodbye to Katie. After a couple of minutes, Katie asks, "Oh, Sara, I forgot to ask, do you know how far along you are?"
"Not exactly, I'm guessing around 5 or so weeks. I have an ultrasound next Wednesday at Chicago Medical so I'll find out then."
"You do?" He asks, excitement on his features.
"Yeah, I was supposed to tell you this morning, but I was a little distracted." She blushes slightly and Katie chuckles again.
"I won't be able to come with you." Michael states, his excitement replaced with pain; Sara hugs him, not really knowing how to make this better for him. Watching them, Katie feels saddened for them, before remembering something, "I have a way you could both go." Michael and Sara look at her, confused, "I have a friend there that owes me, big time; who also happens to be a gynaecologist. I can get her to pull some strings so she is the one doing the ultrasound. Michael would still have to wear some form of disguise but it could work." Michael and Sara stare at her, dumbfounded, Michael rushes up to her, giving her a teary bear hug. "Thank you Katie, you are amazing." Katie smiles sweetly at the couple, "you're very welcome."
ONE WEEK LATER
Sara walks into the hospital alone and heads to the OBGYN office, hoping and praying that Michael and Katie made it there without any hiccups. Michael's disguise is simple but effective; he's wearing a grey business suit with glasses and a fake beard Katie had purchased. Katie notices Michael visibly relax when Sara walks in and can't help but smile, he really loves her, "did you have any trouble?" Sara whispers to them nervously, even though the only other person in the room is the secretary, who is on the phone.
"No trouble, no one even gave a second glance." Michael smiles, Sara nods in response.
They see Dr Andrews heading their way, she waves Michael and Sara into her office, saying a quick hello to Katie. "Miss Tancredi, Mr Scofield, how are you two today?"
"Good, thank you so much for doing this." Sara answers.
"Not a problem at all, we'll jump right in shall we?" Michael and Sara nod enthusiastically, "Sara, I'll get you to hop on the bed there." She points to the gurney and Sara happily obliges, "Lift your shirt please." Sara does as she's told, holding tightly onto Michael's hand; she answers all of the questions Dr Andrews asks as she examines her. Dr Andrews put the cold gel on Sara's stomach and the couple eagerly watch the screen. Dr Andrew almost immediately finds the baby, "There's your baby." Michael and Sara don't respond, instead, they both stare at the small bean sized image on the screen in front of them, Dr Andrews can't help but smile at the couple, she angles the ultrasound wand slightly and, suddenly, the most amazing sound Michael and Sara have ever heard fills the room, "and that is your baby heartbeat. A very strong heartbeat I might add." She sees Michael tighten his grip on Sara's hand and both of their eyes fill with tears, "I'll just get you a copy of the sonogram and a video for you two." She removes the wand from Sara's stomach, she wouldn't have been entirely sure if they had heard her if Sara hadn't slightly nodded.
When Dr Andrews walks off Michael finally removes his eyes from the screen to look at Sara, "That's our baby, our baby." Sara smiles and nods before pulling him to her for a tender kiss. Dr Andrews returns with two prints of the sonogram and a disc, "Thank you so much doctor." Michael chokes out.
"My pleasure; I'm more than happy to be your gynaecologist for the remainder of you pregnancy, that way Michael can keep coming to appointments without a worry."
"Thank you, thank you," Sara pulls her into a hug, "you have no idea how much that means to us." They all share a smile and book their next appointment, Michael and Sara leaves Dr Andrews office holding hands and smiling.
"How did it go?" Katie quickly asks as they enter the waiting area, thrilled at how happy they look.
"Amazing, I'm six weeks pregnant." Sara answers, her smile broadening.
They leave the hospital the same way they came in, Sara walking out the front doors alone, Katie and Michael walking out the back way.
"Thank you again for doing this Katie." Michael says, Katie swats away the comment.
"Don't mention it. I told you Michael, Sara's happy with you. Of course I'm going to help out where I can."
"Well, we appreciate. I appreciate it," Michael says quietly, "you could have taken this a whole different way."
"I could of, but Sara has been through enough. She deserves to be happy. And so do you Michael. I mean, you two could have fallen in love is a different way but your method seemed to work just fine." They share a laugh as they head to the car.
