Blake pov
The last part of my summer goes by extremely slowly. I know I'm gonna hate myself for saying this, but I'm almost excited for school at start. I have no friends to hang out with and no two a day practices to give me something to do before school. The two a day football practices are something I certainly won't miss though. Moon still hasn't responded to my texts and I'm about to disregard it completely. My temper starts to build a bit and I know itl come back to bite me in the ass, but I can't help it. I pull out my phone and text Moon.
BM: It'd be nice if you could respond you know, but I get it. People like Kyler and Brucks aka tweedledum and tweedledumbass are so easy to believe right. You know I'm honestly in awe how you bought their bullshit so easily. I didn't think anyone would be full enough to buy Brucks' bullshit, but I guess you learn something everyday.
I feel oddly good about the whole thing. I know it won't end well, but I really couldn't care less.
My phone buzzes and I look at my phone. I see Moon's name.
"Oh now she chooses to respond," I mutter with spite.
M: that's what you think. Seriously. I can't believe you. You remember who drove all the way out to Reseda and picked you up when that guy beat you up. I let you stay at my house. I actually convinced myself that you were something other than an obnoxious jock. Your nothing but an asshole!
Then the familiar feeling of regret kicks in.
"What did I just do?" I say into my pillow.
BM: your right I'm sorry I was just so mad at them for being such assholes. I DIDNT hook up with Sam I swear. Ik starting the fight with Kyler was wrong. He just makes me so mad. Look I get it if you don't wanna talk to me ever again, but I regretted what I said immediately after I hit send.
I wait for one minute, two, three, nothing.
"No!" I yell and punch my pillow.
Luckily my brother went back to school this morning so he couldn't hear my little outburst. Then something clicks in my brain. The dinner at the LaRusso's is tonight.
My mom yells at me to get ready from downstairs.
I put on a nice Peter Millar golf shirt and jeans. I leave it untucked tho. More of my style. I look in the mirror and give myself a thumbs up. My hair actually looks not crazy for once. Why did it have to be the weirdest mix. It's not curly or straight. It's a weird wavy that's hard to take, but the semi messy look actually looks good on me. I head down and we walk across the street.
My dad rings the doorbell and Mr. LaRusso answers.
"Hey Jimmy how you doin?" He says and shakes my dad's hand.
"Hey Daniel," he says.
"Cmon inside were making the famous LaRusso ponzu toro," Mr. LaRusso says with a smile.
"This is my wife Sarah and my son Blake," my dad says gesturing to my mom and I.
"Nice to meet you Mr. LaRusso," I say and shake his hand with a smile and he pats me on the shoulder.
When I first saw him, he seemed like a typical douche, but he seems like a really nice guy. We walk inside and I see Sam with her mom in the kitchen.
"Amanda, Sam, Anthony, come say hi to the Murphys," Daniel announces.
I introduce myself to Mrs. LaRusso who shakes my hand and gives me a friendly smile. Anthony says a quick "hi" then goes right back to his PS vita. Sam walks up to me with a smile.
"Hey. Your face is all healed up," she says.
"Yeah about time. I think I'm gonna take a short break from fights for a little while," I say with a jagged smile.
Daniel describes his knives that he got from Okinawa then gives a whole introduction to his ponzu toro which looks really good. Amanda claps and Sam smiles at me.
"Wow this looks amazing," I say looking at my plate.
"Try it it melts in your mouth," Daniel responds.
I take a quick bite and savor the flavor. It tastes absolutely glorious.
"Wow this tastes great," I say and Sam smiles.
"Well LaRusso's know how to cook," she says confidently.
"Here's the proof," I say gesturing to my plate.
The rest of dinner goes rather pleasantly. Afterward the parents are talking by the pool and Sam and I are walking upstairs.
"So I guess you liked the toro," she says.
"Guess so," I joke with a smile.
"Sam, I need to tell you something. I made a mistake. I don't think I can go back from this one," I say as we walk into her upstairs living room which I assume is a game room for Anthony.
"What did you do?" She asks growing concerned.
I sigh and tell her about my fight with Moon.
She scolds me for being a dick.
"Look I'm sorry I just got really fed up because I thought she wouldn't buy their crap like everyone else," I argue.
"It doesn't matter you shouldn't say stuff like that! Moon is really nice" Sam yells.
"I know. It made me mad because... I like her okay. I bet it sounds weird because I met her about two weeks ago, but something just clicked. It just made me feel so much shame that she probably thinks I'm some jerk who gets in fights all the time," I say hanging my head.
"She doesn't think that. Or she wouldn't if you hadn't have said that," Sam says with spite.
"Yeah I know," I sigh.
"Look, you know you made a mistake right? Just be yourself around her and I guarantee you she'll see the person you really are. She doesn't like violence, but I talked to her after the party and it impressed her that someone stood up to Kyler," she admits.
"Really?" I ask.
"Yeah totally," she says encouragingly.
"Why do you hang with them? I'm not judging I'm just curious," I ask.
"Kyler is different around me. I can't explain it," she says.
Deep down I think she has it reversed. I'm not gonna say that, but I think Kyler's true colors are the bully while his nice guy act toward Sam is a ruse to get in her pants. Sam deserves better than that and I believe she'll find out. I grew up around kids like Kyler and they're always in it for the poontang and nothing else.
"God I really screwed up with Moon," I say.
"Unlike most girls, Moon is really forgiving. You know what, I'll talk to her and convince her to FaceTime you tonight. How does that sound? Look I probably shouldn't tell you this, but I'm pretty sure she likes you to," Sam says sincerely.
"My older brother said the same thing," I say.
"You'll figure it out. I know you will," Sam says and lightly punches my shoulder.
"Thanks," I say genuinely.
"What are friends for?" Sam says showing her pearly white grin.
We go downstairs to see the parents still outside. The moms are laughing really hard at something and the dads are standing off to the side talking about something with beers in hand. Sam and I walk out into the yard and I look around the backyard for some reason. I scan the poolside for dried blood and find none.
"Blake, come here," my dad says pleasantly as he motions me over.
I walk over to my dad and Mr. LaRusso.
"I heard someone has a sixteenth birthday coming up," Mr. LaRusso says.
"Yes sir. In about a month and a half," I respond.
"I'll be right back," my dad says and walks away.
"So, never got the chance to ask you about that fight that happened in my pool the other day," Daniel says, but he doesn't sound mad at all.
My head snaps and I look at him wide eyed.
"Don't worry. I'm not mad at all. Based on what Sam told me. Kid had it coming," he says.
"I'm sorry about that Mr. LaRusso," I say.
"It's alright. Trust me, I was in my fist share of fights in high school. I was a big hothead back then," he admits with a smile.
I chuckle slightly.
"So what kind of car are you interested in?" Daniel asks.
"I'm not sure," I admit.
I want to get something not super expensive.
"Well come by the dealership and test drive a few anytime," he says.
"Thanks Mr. LaRusso," I answer curling my lip into a smile.
"It's my pleasure," he responds kindly.
We spend the rest of the night talking and just hanging out. It's nice to not have to stress about school or my little situation.
We say our goodbyes and head for home. I plop on my bed and for the first time in weeks I smile. I hope Sam's plan works. Suddenly, my phone rings and it's a FaceTime call from Moon.
Authors note: ok this is the last of the introduction chapters. Next chapter will be a convo between Blake and Moon then the first day at WVH. Also Blake will join Cobra Kai very soon thanks for being patient! Happy reading
