Family Can Come As If By Magic

Chapter 11

Today was a bright and sunny day in Enchancia, but it couldn't be said for the royal sorcerer's daughter, Sofia who was sick with a fever and cough, feeling miserable as her Papa gently puts a cold cloth on her feverish forehead as she tried to catch her breath from coughing so much, thankfully Wormwood left to go hunt and hang out in the bird coop in the castle until Sofia got better.

"I hate being sick Papa!" Sofia whines as she tried to get comfortable under her covers, but was not very successful as she was achey and sore thanks to the illness.

"I know, my dear, but you will feel better in few days, it's important to rest, drink liquids and take your medicine and then before you know you up and casting spell to your hearts desire."

Cedric was sympathic to how his child must be feeling and tried to look back on what his mother would to do make him feel better and remembered something that always made him smile.

"You know when I was small, my mother would always sing to me when I was sick or feeling sad, want give it a try?"

Sofia nods curious as to what her Papa would sing.

"Sweet little child, don't cry or frown,

Sweet little child turn around and the magical world surround you,

See the swirls and squirls of spell being cast, look at the others learning this wonderous craft.

Knowing that you will someday do it too, my sweet child you can do anything to you put your mind too."

By the time Cedric had finish his little melody, Sofia was asleep with a smile on her flushed face and so he gently gets up, rejusts the cool cloth on her forehead onces more before giving the girl a kiss on her still too warm cheek before leaving the room, keeping the door open in case she needed him.

When Cedric found that Sofia was ill he decided that she move into his room temporarily, until she got better he didn't want to worry about her downstairs alone in large, even though the King and Queen would be will to help out along with the twins and Madeline, he simply didn't want to leave his daughter's side.

Unless of course it was to make potions that she might need in order to help speed the process along or make her comfortable.

Going down the stairs into his work shop he quickly finds the book for Potions that have cures or treatments for simple illnesses or damage to the body and quickly looks to find a potion that treats a fever and cough.

When he finds what he is looking for, he gathers all the ingredients for the two potions he was going to make and is set to work on both when he hears a slight whimpering coming from upstairs and after putting the fire out he takes twos steps at a time, to get to Sofia quicker.

Standing in the doorway he saw that Sofia was tossing and turning as if she was trying to fighting to get away from something terrible, so he quickly goes to her side without much thought he scoops her up in his arms, frowning at the heat coming off her little body as he walks back down stairs into the living room and gently put her on the couch, grabbing the overthrow quilt and wrapped Sofia into it like a cocoon to help keep her warm and help sweat out the fever alittle as he went to make some soup for her to eat.

Sofia had woken up when her father picked her up and brought her downstairs and set her down onto the couch and tucked a blanket around her making sure she comfortable he leaves to go into the kitchen to make dinner. But she was so tired that she quickly falls back asleep in no time at all.

After the soup was prepare he carefully puts some in a mug and goes into the living room to see Sofia still asleep, her breathing was slight raspy, but hopefully the soup will sooth her throat and fill her up at the same time, so he sets the mug down first onto the coffee table and gently shakes her shoulder, earning a groan, but thankfully she opened her eyes alittle to see that was her Papa.

"I made you some soup, it might help your throat and make you feel alittle better."

Sofia nods and has her Papa help her sit up abit with several pillows under her, before she drinks some of the soup with his help, until she stops and was nearly asleep again onces more.

"Rest well, my little one."

Cedric said softly as he gives the girl a kiss on the forehead, before getting and puts the soup aside, tucks the blanket abit more securely around her and brings the mug into the kitchen to be clean later and put the reminding soup in an ice box for later.

"I might as well get those potions started and finished so that Sofia can some decent sleep tonight."

Cedric again went to his workshop and started to make the anti-cough elixir and when that was done he got started on the fever reducer potion and was finally done with both and now he had to wait for them to cool down to be bottled, and labeled.

While that was happening he decided to check on Sofia real quick to see if she needed anything.

He pokes his head out the door and looks into the living room to see that she was still asleep, so he went back inside and saw that finally the potions cooled and he quickly bottles and lables them, then he puts the rest away keeping only one of each out take now.

So he goes awakes Sofia enough for her to take the potions and falls back asleep as Cedric a runs a hand through her hair to comfort her as she slept through night and at somepoint her fever broke.

Sofia slept until late into the morning, when she started wake up she tried stay asleep longer she couldn't and so she started to wake up and when she opens her eyes, she is greeted to sight of her Papa sitting his usual dark purple armchair, sleeping with a blanket on his lap.

Sofia lets out a yawn as she strenchs her arms up undoing the blanket wrapped around her, realizing that she felt so much better now, she was still alittle weak, but overall she felt great.

But first she had to go the bathroom first and then she will wake up her Papa and they can have breakfast, once that was done with Sofia comes back into the living room and gently wakes Cedric, when the man opens his eyes, he sees Sofia sitting his lap, smiling as he checks her forehead and find it nice and cool again.

"I am hungry, Papa, can we have pancakes please?"

Cedric nods as he gets up and goes straight for the coffee maker and down his first cup, before getting started on breakfast, while Sofia sat at the table still recovering from her illness.

"After breakfast you have to take another round of potions and I know that-"

"Okay, Papa." Sofia sigh softly as Cedric continues to talk.

"they will taste terrible, wait did you say "Okay?" no fighting, or whining or pleading?"
Cedric could not believe it as he stares at the small 5 almost 6 year old in wonder.

"No, my mama, used to always have me drink a potion once week and she was firm on it, no matter how much I cried or whine about it and onces I tried to hide in order to not have to take it, but I ended up scaring her and being put in time out for it, so I decided that the sooner I do it, the sooner it will be over."

Cedric nods and goes to his workshop and picks up the two potions that he was looking for and brings them into dining room, giving them to Sofia and watches as she quickly swings them back and down them quickly shuddering at the taste, then she takes a drink of her milk and then gives her Papa a smile.

"Tastes like socks, but it's better then brussle sprouts." Sofia shudders as she remembers trying to eat those vile things.

Cedric nods in agreement as he ruffles the girl's long dark brown hair, making a mental note to himself to give it a trim at some point.

"Come my brave girl, lets see if you can beat me in a round of "Magical Checkers."

Sofia was off her chair and in the living room before he could even move.

"You are so on, Papa." Sofia cheekily said as they set up the game.
