It had been six years since Amelia had seen or spoken to either of her parents. She felt incredibly guilty for how she had behaved as a teen and figured they were happier without her. She was wrong. One night, Amelia was awakened by a bright light. A woman with big blonde hair and rhinestones appeared.
"Who are you?" Amelia asked.
"I'm an Angel and I'm here to help you light your light."
"What?"
"You think your parents are better off without you. Well, tonight, three angels will visit you to show you how wrong you are. I'm going to take you way back to when I first met your mother."
"You knew my mother?"
"Oh yeah," Angel said, "she's a stubborn one."
Angel first took Amelia to the Christmas where Regina was selling the town. She saw all of the pain her mother was living with and how her mother changed for the better. Next, Angel showed Amelia how her mother was abused by Christian's father and then shot. She saw her mother push Christian to the ground when he tried to shield her to protect him. Angel then took her to the following year when Regina was in a car accident with Faith. She saw her mother nearly die to keep Faith safe. Then, Amelia was taken to see bits of her mother's life from her first stroke while pregnant to the stroke she had after giving birth. The last place Angel took Amelia was to her first Christmas. Amelia saw her mother on the floor with two babies.
"Your mother worked really hard to be able to be your mother."
Carl walked in, "why are you on the floor?"
"I decided to sit down here with the girls."
"I know that you want to do normal things with them, but you are still recovering."
"I'm not running around, chasing them. I'm just sitting on the floor with them."
Amelia listened as her parents argued, "mom was never one to listen well."
"You don't have to tell me. I already know that."
"Carl, I don't think Amelia likes me very much."
That comment made Amelia's eyes widen. Carl sat in front of his wife, "why do you say that?"
"She never seems too happy when I'm around."
Amelia looked at Angel, "I'm really afraid to ask this, but am I the antichrist?"
"No, don't be ridiculous. You could sense that your mother wasn't well and all of the negative emotions she was feeling. It made you feel uneasy."
"I can't believe that all of these things happened in her life and I never knew."
"Your mother is a humble person. She's not looking for credit for being a good mom. She just wanted her children to be happy and for there to be love in her family."
Another female angel appeared in Amelia's bedroom.
"Hi, Amelia, my name is Felicity."
"Felicity?"
"Yes, I'm who your sister was named after."
"Were you an angel when you knew my mom?"
"Yes, but she didn't know. I was working on getting my wings."
Felicity took Amelia to see what present-day Christmas looked like at her home. She saw her mother in the kitchen. Regina's perfect posture was gone, she moved slowly, and appeared tired.
"Mom, what are you doing?" Eden asked as she walked into the kitchen.
"I'm looking for the recipes."
"Here," Eden took her mother's hand, "I know where they are." Eden had her mother sit at the table and brought her the box of recipes. She sat at the table with her mother.
Regina began to look through her recipes, "have you heard from your sister?"
"Yeah, she's doing well."
"Good," Regina never looked up.
Amelia looked at Felicity, "that's it? She's not going to ask for details?"
"Your mother decided that she wouldn't pry or break your trust in your sister."
"What happened to her? She's so feeble."
"She didn't recover after you left."
"Eden never said anything."
"Because your mother told her not to. She didn't want you feeling bad or coming home when you didn't want to. Your father hired a nurse after you left to stay with your mother when he was working. He had wanted to sell the shop and retire, but your mother told him that he would regret it and go nuts being home all day."
"Does Eden still live here?"
"She decided to pass on college so that your mom didn't have to lose her too. She didn't think your mother would survive if she went away too. Your dad let the nurse go because Eden had decided to take care of your mother."
The last angel to visit Amelia was a man. Amelia recognized the man from the photos in her mother's home.
"You're my grandfather, aren't you?"
"Yes, Amelia, I am."
"I guess you're taking me to see what will happen to my mom in the future if I don't reunite with her?"
"That's correct," Jack took his granddaughter to see Christmas in the future. They were at the house, but things were different.
"It's so quiet," Amelia looked and saw her mother in a wheelchair by the window, "is that mom?"
"Yes," Jack answered.
"Where is everyone?"
"Your father died, your mother had a falling out with your brother, and Eden became tired of her life and finally left."
"So no one is here?"
"Your mother's in-home nurse is."
Amelia walked through the living room to her mother. She noticed that all of the family pictures were gone. When she reached her mother, she couldn't believe how awful she looked. All of a sudden, Regina stopped breathing. She had died all alone. No family, no friends. "I can't let this happen to her. Grandpa, can I still change?"
"Everyone has the ability to change if they want to."
