I beheld the vast quantity of water in front of me. Mando was standing at my side on deck; I don't he trusted me a minute alone with these sailors, and frankly I could understand why. Something just felt…. off about all this. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I didn't like the way they looked at us, or particularly the Mandalorian.
Octopus guy came beside Mando; it didn't seem like he or his mates knew what to think of me and so addressed only him. He planted his hand over the railing. "You ever see a mamacore eat?" No, and I don't plan to. "Quite a sight," he added, as if that would make any difference. I rolled my eyes and Mando didn't say anything. Octopus guy gazed out to the open ocean. "Woman might take an interest." Seriously? Did he just say that? Does he know anything about women… or humans, for that matter?
But octopus guy was persistent. "You should take a look. Come on over here; let the lady see." We turned around, stepping forward slightly, though truthfully I had no intention on seeing a sea creature devour poor, helpless fish. Mando held out his arm to stop me from moving any closer, which wasn't that close at all; I didn't want to get anywhere near that gate. "Alright, close enough," he said as if he didn't know me better. I know, I know; he's just being his overprotective self and I loved it. Octopus guy got the net in position. "Alright, here we go."
The fish fell down from the net's opening into the water. Immediately the surface started to bubble. I shut my eyes in disgust and spun right around- I didn't want to witness this animal carnage. "She must be hungry. Often times we'll feed her in the early morning but we missed that cause we were going out of town!"
All of a sudden, this brute force hit me on the front of my knees- hard. It all happened so fast; I didn't comprehend I was in the water until my head was already below the surface. That man bashed me with a metal pole, sending me straight into the fish tank without warning. "No!" Mando cried. He dove in right after me, swimming down towards my sinking body like a shot. "Lock it up! Go, go! Now! Go!" Octopus guy told his crewmate above deck.
I didn't see the sea creature but Mando must have. He fired off one of his bigger blasts right behind me past my shoulder at something. There was this underwater roar emanating from below. Mando grabbed hold of my wrist, swiftly yanking me up through the water to him. Wrapping one arm securely around my waist, I then took off to the surface where we both took a much-needed breath. Octopus guy was there, whacking at Mando's hands and helmet with a spear. "Drown him!" I guess that was their plan.
Mando was busy holding onto the gate with one hand while making sure I stayed above water with his other. Pretty soon others were stabbing at both of us. We were lucky none of them managed to get us, but we weren't out of the literal tank yet. As if this day couldn't have gotten any weirder, another figure suddenly flew down to stop octopus guy. I didn't watch the fight, too preoccupied with trying not to drown. In no time however, this Mandalorian person kneeled above the gate. It opened and she held out her hand for Mando- not me. "Take my hand."
My Mandalorian was having none of that though. Before he hoisted himself out of the water, it practically pushed me into her arms. Now that she had me, she lifted me up onto the deck where I laid coughing. It felt like I hacked up half a lung, I was coughing that much. Mando followed right after me, with the Mandalorian lady helping him to sit down on a roll of rope. Mando was also coughing uncontrollably, but able to articulate more than me. "Saoirse… Saoirse….." He kept repeating my name worriedly. "Don't worry, brother. She's here," I suppose the Mandalorian lady figured out he meant me. The male Mandalorian scooped me up into his arms, cautiously carrying me over to Mando. Mando let out a gigantic sigh in relief as he set me into my husband's lap. I gazed up and smiled warmed at him. My hand reached up to press against the side of his helmet where his cheek would be. "Are you alright, Mando?" I asked quietly. He sighed heavily yet gladly again. "Yes…." Then he glanced back up at the three of them; they were all watching up with some curiosity now.
"Thank you. I've been searching for more of our kind." "Well lucky we found you first," the Mandalorian lady said this but Mando wasn't looking at her just then; his gaze was back upon me. We stared at each other for a second more until his head tilted upwards. "I've been quested to deliver this woman. I was hoping that…." His words fell silent in his mouth when they all unexpectedly removed their helmets. My eyes grew in shock, and I'm pretty sure Mando's did too. I'd never seen a Mandalorian do that before; not a real Mandalorian anyway. Even Mando hadn't taken off his armour in front of me- something I didn't take personally. I just thought that they couldn't show anyone their faces; not even to each other…. Well, unless they were both Mandalorians and got married, but that wasn't our case.
From the go, I could tell Mando was a little more than confused. He helped me stand up on my feet and got up himself. He took a menacing step their way, motioning for me to stay back with his right hand. "Where did you get that armour?" My husband demanded of her. "This armour has been in my family for three generations," the lady replied. Oh, so that confirms that they can remove their armour in front of their partners. "You do not cover your face. You are not Mandalorian," Mando countered severely. Well I was more inclined to believe my husband than these apparently false-Mandalorians. They probably stole the suits off real Mandalorians, or their relatives did.
The man looked at the lady with short brown hair. "He's one of them." "Excuse me?" I gasped, offended to hear anyone talk about Mando like that. Mando was not a "them"; how dare he use that kind of language? I may not know many Mandalorians but Mando was about as Mandalorian as they come. "Dank farrik," brown hair woman swore under her breath. "One of what?" Mando sounded equally as offended as I was for him.
Short brown hair lady took a few steps towards him. "I am Bo Katan of Clan Kryze. I was born on Mandalore and fought in the purge." Purge? What purge? Were Mandalorian clans "purging" each other where she came from? "I am the last of my line," she tacked on. Boy, lots of "last of lines" about this side of the galaxy. My frown deepened as she took an even closer step to Mando; she's getting a little too close for comfort- I know how he is about his personal space. He only lets one person get that close to him….. I would have blushed if this wasn't such an intense scene.
Bo Katan's eyes locked with his. "And you are a child of the Watch." "The Watch?" Mando was suspicious and rightly so. We didn't know these people; how did we know we could trust them? Her face relaxed a teeny bit. "Children of the Watch are a cult of religious zealots that broke away from Mandalorian society. Their goal was to re-establish the ancient way," she finished her sentence looking straight at me; she stared dead-locked in my direction. I think to her mild surprise, I didn't back down, glaring right back at her. It was painfully obvious we didn't trust nor like each other from the moment we met. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful they saved our lives, but she's insulting my husband's core values! Mando wasn't a religious zealot; he just had a code and followed it. That's it. Nothing more, I'm sure. Besides, if he was in a cult, I doubt they would have let him marry me. I don't trust this Bo Katan person- her or her companions. It appeared I wasn't the only one either.
You could feel the heated glare Mando was firing her from behind his helmet. "There is only one way- the way of the Mandalore," he turned his back to her, returning to my side. I flashed her a victory smirk. Yes, my husband knew what he was talking about- he's a true Mandalorian. Of that, I have no doubt. Mando picked me up princess-style in his arms and proceeded to fly into the sky using his jet pack. We watched the ship get destroyed by the three false-Mandalorians some hours later- from a safe distance, of course. Holding onto my hand, Mando led me away from the scene, right after we saw them fly upward.
