Chapter 12: We Got This

"Let's hear it for our Petalburg High Cheerleaders!"

The audience boomed with applause as the cheerleaders ran to the center of the gym. It's time for the Homecoming Pep Rally and the gym is packed with everyone in school. Off to the side of the gym are rows of 10 chairs. The Beaus and Sweethearts for all the clubs and organizations are sitting in the chairs. May and Drew are sitting in different rows that are one right behind the other because they are both representing electives. The Beaus and Sweethearts are also wearing fancy clothes along with their sashes and mums.

In the center of the gym, the cheerleaders are huddled together.

"Alright, guys. Let's do this." Dawn said.

"We're right behind you, Captain." A cheerleader said.

"Pom poms up. And let's go." Dawn said. She then blew the whistle that's hanging around her neck. That got everyone's attention and the gym got quiet. All eyes are on the cheerleaders as they get into position. Once they're in their positions, the music starts playing through the speakers.

(This song is "We Got This" from ZOMBIES 2. The cheerleading in the music video is the same in this chapter. There's changed lyrics too. For the whole song, just imagine the cheerleaders cheering and doing their thing.

"We're back here on the scene and everyone's together." Dawn sang. "With all grades on the team it's better than ever, better than ever. These moves will get the gold. Let's make it last forever." Two cheerleaders walked over to where the Beaus and Sweethearts were sitting. "And we'll always break the mold, cause we're better than ever, better than ever." The two cheerleaders signaled Drew to join in with them by gently pulling his arm.

Drew didn't say anything to the girls. He just stood up and joined in with the song like they wanted him to. He started walking towards the center of the gym. "Marching through the entire school. I may always seem like I'm calm and cool." Two cheerleaders walked to May and signaled her to join in. She smiled, stood up, and started walking towards Drew. Drew stopped walking in the center of the gym and he faced the audience. "We can sing and dance, let's all hear you cheer. Let's all have some fun with our friends this year."

"Having some fun, that sounds great." May sang, still walking to Drew. Drew heard May's voice and turned to face her. He smiled. "But what's the price we have to pay?" May stopped in front of Drew.

"Ready for a new day, ready for a change." Drew sang, holding out a rose to May. May smiled and accepted the rose.

"Freshmen to Seniors, everybody say!" May and Drew sang together. From the rows of chairs, Devon furrowed his eyebrows because Drew gave May a rose.

The cheerleaders continue doing their tricks with Drew and May in the center. "Hey! We got this!" Everyone who's performing sang together. Dawn walked to May and Drew. "Teaming up to make progress." May and Drew looked at Dawn. "Change the rules, you can't stop this. Together we rise, you know we got this." Dawn turned around and walked towards the audience again, cheering. "Hey! We got this! Teaming up to make progress." They all sang as Drew looked at May. Drew took the rose out of May's hand and placed it in her hair. May glanced at Drew and blushed. "Change the rules, you can't stop this. Together we rise, you know we got this."

May and Drew joined in with the dancing. "We'll make some memories, we'll remember forever." Dawn sang while cheering with her Pom Poms. "With friends and family, it's better than ever, better than ever. Homecoming, prom, and more, and parties here whenever. We pull the strings, we run the show, cause we're better than ever, better than ever."

"We're finally gonna get to go to prom." Drew said. "Gonna get our p-p-p-p-party on. Counting down the days, I've been keeping track." He glanced over at May. "Thinking of the day when I'll ask her that."

May glanced at Drew and smiled. They looked at the audience and continued their dancing. "Imagine me going with him to the dance." May sang. "A Princess and a boy walking hand-in-hand."

"Ready for a new day, ready for a change." Drew sang.

"Freshman to Seniors, everybody say!" May and Drew sang together.

"Hey! We got this!" All cheerleaders and May and Drew sang together. "Teaming up to make progress. Change the rules, you can't stop this. Together we rise, you know we got this. Hey! We got this! Teaming up to make progress. Change the rules, you can't stop this. Together we rise, you know we got this."

The cheerleaders all stopped cheering and dancing, and they hung their heads down. Drew and May were in the center, continuing the song. "In this school year," Drew sang. "With all our peers. Picturing all my friends beside me." May walked to Drew and took his hand. They interlocked their fingers and looked at each other. "Then we will say, we're all the same." May and Drew looked at the audience. "And we can live in perfect harmony. Oh, what's it gonna take? What's it gonna take? What's it gonna take? What's it gonna take? What's it gonna take?"

Everyone started dancing again. May and Drew released each other's hand. "We got this." They all sang. "We got this."

"Ready for a new day, ready for a change." Drew sang.

"Freshman to Seniors, everybody say!" May and Drew sang.

"Hey! We got this!" Everyone sang. "Teaming up to make progress. Change the rules, you can't stop this. Together we rise, you know we got this. Hey! We got this! Teaming up to make progress. Change the rules, you can't stop this. Together we rise, you know we got this."

"Hey! We got this!" Everyone repeated. "Teaming up to make progress. Change the rules, you can't stop this. Together we rise, you know we got this. Hey! We got this! Teaming up to make progress. Change the rules, you can't stop this. Together we rise, you know we got this." Everyone ended the song and dancing. The gym erupted in applause.

Drew walked to May. "I think we should go back to our seats."

"Right." May said. "Don't you think that was fun?" She asked excitedly. They start walking back to their seats.

Drew chuckled. "Sure. I was not expecting them to drag us into it either."

"Well, I think we did amazing!" May said happily.

They sat down on their seats, May next to Devon and Drew in the row behind her next to the Sweetheart for Guitar.

Devon looked at May and didn't bother saying anything. He saw the red rose that's still in her hair from their performance. He smirked on the inside. Devon's planning something...but what?

The girl that's next to Drew, however, wrapped her arms around Drew's arm, looking at him lovingly. Drew looked at her and tried pulling his arm out of her grip, but shehad a really strong grip on him. Drew faced forward and sighed.

("Fans…") Drew thought.

The representatives from the clubs and organization all line up and walk down an aisle in the center of the gym. The Beaus and Sweethearts link arms while they walk down the aisle. But Devon has other plans…

"Choir Beau, Devon. Choir Sweetheart, May." The host said into a microphone.

At the back of the gym, May and Devon link arms. They start walking down the aisle. From further down the line, Drew is feeling a little mad and jealous at the same time. He's mad because of what he saw Devon do the other day. And he's jealous because he isn't the one with May.

Devon did something of the unexpected. He moved his hand and touched May's, interlocking his fingers around her hand. May didn't interlock hers though. Devon lowered their hands and from the distance that everyone's at, it looks like they're holding hands. Drew really got upset now. But there's nothing he can do about it.

"What do you think you're doing?" May whisper yelled.

"Just walking." Devon whispered back.

"Devon, you know I have a boyfriend and he won't like this one bit."

They got to the end of the aisle and stood next to a pair of a different organization's representatives. May pulled her hand, causing Devon to let go of it. May lowered her hand to her side and looked at Devon angrily.

"I told you that I'm not interested." May whisper yelled.

"I was just holding your hand." Devon whispered. "They didn't say that was against the rules."

May sighed angrily looking at Devon. "Don't do it again."

"No promises."

"Why you-"

"Guitar Beau, Drew. Guitar Sweetheart, Isabella." The host announced.

May and Devon both look at Drew and Isabella walking down the aisle with linked arms.

("At least she's not trying to hold his hand.") May thought.

Once Drew and Isabella got to the end of the aisle, Drew glanced at Devon and him and Isabella walked the other direction to stand in the line of representatives.

("I hope Drew doesn't think that I wanted to hold Devon's hand.") May thought.

"May, there you are!" Dawn said.

"Hi, guys!" May said, running to the gang in the front of the school. Pep Rally is all over with and it's after school now. Everyone met up with each other. May stopped at the gang. "Thanks for waiting."

"No prob." Gary said.

"Yeah. We really want to know what happened during that Pep Rally." Misty said.

"W-what do you mean?" May questioned. She glanced next to her at Drew and then looked away from him.

"We mean, why did you hold Devon's hand?" Dawn asked.

"I didn't!" May defended quickly, looking at the gang.

They all stared at May after that small outburst of hers.

"May, it looked like you held his hand." Kiara said.

May sighed and looked down. "He's the one that held my hand. I never interlocked my fingers with his and I didn't pull away while walking down the aisle either, because it would make for a really embarrassing moment. I told him that Drew wouldn't like that he's holding my hand, but he didn't want to listen."

"Is Devon like...obsessed with you?" Misty asked.

"I don't know…" May said. She looked up and faced Drew. "Just know that I didn't want that to happen. I don't know why he did it, but I-"

May got quieted when Drew held up his index finger to her mouth. Drew smiled which made May blush. "I understand. And I believe you." Drew lowered his hand.

"Y-you do?" May questioned.

"Of course." Drew said. "I know you weren't the one who started it, but I'm really mad at Devon. I told you he was probably planning to try something on you."

"Yeah...I really thought he wouldn't do anything to separate us."

"Did he try anything else on you before today?"

"What? Anything else? No, of course not. That's why...I was so surprised today when he took my hand." May lied. She still won't tell him about Devon asking her on a date or trying to give her a rose, because she doesn't want to get Drew really upset.

"Hmm...okay then." Drew said. ("Still lying to me. There's no reason to do that. She should know by now that I trust whatever she says about Devon.") He thought.
