The sun scorched her skin.
The sand flew on the wings of the wind around her.
It was nostalgic.
It was nice to be back home.
"Line up!" The scorching flame from her teammate and the glee that accompanied it was one of many sounds around her.
Moving her arms, the sand around her came to life as it always had. Deflecting bolts from both mundane weapons and orginium infused Arts.
"Homerun!" Another shout from another teammate. This time from her other side.
Once more she moved arms and a wall of sand stood between her and incoming attacks. And in the thick of this fighting, she couldn't help but contemplate.
Rhodes Island had sent their team to help with one of the many nomadic tribes of the Sargon dessert. Unfortunately, their timing had set them against a sizeable raiding party from the jungle borders. It was strange to say the least. Last she understood things, the populace from the jungle were going through some form of civil war. Or at that's as far as she could remember before falling asleep.
"Beeswax, please activate your skill now before Cuora is overwhelmed."
The communicator in her ear sprang to life as she received her orders.
"Understood." She obliged.
Again, she moved her arms. And beneath the ground of their enemies a giant stone obelisk erupted. The battlefield has been thrown into disarray. At the same time, her protective shell had dropped.
Already she could feel the power surging through her body. And while she may not see it, she knew that the golden eye has already manifested on her forehead.
Already her consciousness began to fade as her body began to move on its own. Raw, unstoppable power began to spiral around in her pulses blowing back the advancing enemy forces.
This always happened, not that many knew of the circumstances of her arts. But during these times, she always looked at back on her childhood, to her brightest of memories. Because these thoughts are what anchored her to this world, to keep in chains the power lurking underneath lest they rage out of control.
"You're always sleeping, aren't you?"
Her best of friends had asked her. She could only nod for the moment as she rubbed her eyes, a yawn escaping her lips.
"Well, I can't exactly blame you. This is a nice spot." He smiled at her and she nodded again.
Her friend always understood her, even though she didn't say much.
"Say, how about a game?" He asked.
A game? With her? She wasn't exactly the smartest and she knew the reputation she had in the tribe.
"It's okay. I'll be able to teach you." He noticed her reluctance and gave assurance. It would be the first of many games they'd play.
Again, and again, they went about their days enjoying themselves and the lives they lead.
"You fought a valiant duel my friend." He said to her dramatically, a kind smile on his face. "This is the hardest move, I've yet to make." And again, he would make a comeback in the game they were playing and win.
She didn't mind. She had fun. Besides, she had already learned long ago that winning was not everything. It was about having fun. It was about being honest. It was about being respectful for the time they spent together.
That was one of the lessons he taught her. And he taught her much through the games they played together. She made sure to keep them to heart. Not as a set of rules to follow to the letter, but a code of conduct to try and follow as best as she could.
But eventually, their time together had to come to an end. It was time for her friend to go on a journey, like many in her tribe are expected to do.
She was sad to see him go. But as always, he smiled at her. "You've always been there, my friend." He said to her. "I will never forget the gift of kindness you've given me."
"And I will never forget the gift of courage you've left for me." She whispered to him through tears.
"And that is what binds us. Our lessons will remain with us forever. So stay strong, for yourself and for your family." He continued before placing a small, blue gemstone in her hands.
"Take this." He said. "Think of it as a piece of me." A smirked wormed his way onto his lips. "And if ever you think you'll need a little help."
She understood what he meant. He had shown his Arts. The power he wielded could rival the gods themselves.
"Good Luck." She whispered.
"And to you as well." He replied knowing full well the traditions of the tribe and her own trial ahead.
"When we meet again," He continued. "I hope you'll show me how much you've grown."
With her back to the others of tribe, she allowed herself this small opportunity. Her lips titled upwards and she returned the confidence he was showing. "We shall see."
Already she could feel her arts fading, her consciousness returning. Surveying the battle, could see her teammates beginning to wear out. The desert was not kind to them.
"Operators, get ready, another wave of enemies are inbound."
Once again, the battle would be joined. But from the sweat the others were producing and how sluggish they were moving despite the efforts their medical team members were giving, it wouldn't be enough.
They would be overwhelmed.
"Doctor, that last wave has drained us in both stamina and resources. If another wave is coming as you say, we will not last." One of their newest, and squad leader for this mission, Sideroca chimed in. The Minos' exhausted body sitting next to her large blade.
"I understand. Reinforcements are already on the way. Phantom and Gravel are leading and they'll get to you first, but they're still ten minutes out."
It was true. Their squad was only meant to establish a defensive line and hold out for the rest of the team that were also sent in on this mission. And based on the enemies they've already fought, they were severely outnumbered for this fight.
It was just like that one game her friend taught her a long time ago.
"Leader," She called out to Sideroca. Gaining the attention of the squad she continued. "I can do something with my Arts."
Her squad leader looked up at her and furrowed her brows, "Will your plan put your health at risk?"
She shook her head. "No, it won't."
Sideroca pursed her lips before consulting, "Doctor?"
"You're the squad leader, Sideroca. You need to make this decision yourself."
"If there's a will, then there is hope." She repeated one of the many things her friend had said during their many games -right before he did something expected and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
The purple haired bull sighed before nodding. "Understood. Do it, Beeswax. We're counting on you."
She nodded. "Please make sure that the others keep their distance." She requested to the Doctor.
"Alright, I'll inform the other squad leaders of the situation. Good Luck, everyone."
"If you believe in something hard enough, do everything in your power for a cause, random chance will cease and it will become something more." She said as she pulled out the small, blue gemstone she had kept with her for so long.
She looked to her crumbling guardian and once again she summoned her power. But this time was different.
"I call upon thee!"
She began. Sand and wind began to kick-up around her and her team.
"O' Divine Soldier, lend me your blade as you've done for your Master over a thousand times in the past. I beseech thee!"
She thought of him, her friend, his warmth, his kindness, his strength, his courage. She thought of their friendship, and the never-ending support they had for one another.
Once more the golden eye appeared and she could feel the embrace her Arts were about to impose on her.
'Not… this… time.'
Standing firm against the tide, she could feel the vehemence, the incredulity, but she pressed on.
"Arise!"
She called once again and the form of her guardian became obscured by sand. The earth began to quake. And a low groan began to emanate throughout the battlefield.
A large, humanoid figure burst from the obfuscation. Several miles high, the sand cleared and the winds died down with a flap of the wings on its back.
"I release thy bonds for thee to face the enemy before us!"
Blue skinned and muscular, this colossus dwarfed the ones described in the Wolumonde Incident by leagues.
Red eyes that burned with power looked down upon her. But she felt no fear, this was her friend's servant after all. And after a brief moment, it nodded. Then, it turned its attention to the enemy force that had stopped. There was no doubt their movement was arrested by fear and realization at what was happening.
"Great War God, obliterate all who stand before you!"
With a low roar that would undoubtedly be heard for miles the titan reared back an arm, raw energy manifesting on its fist.
Pointing to the army before them, she gave her order.
"God Hand Crusher!"
And thus, a God's Anger descended.
