It's day one, and she's dying.
Her insides are making her want to scream and all she wants to do is lay in bed with a heating pad and watch stupid romantic comedies that make her cry, or maybe a a slasher movie, or maybe both. Instead, she's at the office on time as usual, hiding her cramps behind a grimacing facade, trying not to let her weakness show.
When she gets to her cubicle, she's surprised to see him already there, working diligently behind his desk. Almost as if he can sense her, he looks up from his work and sends her a smile and a nod before turning back to his paperwork fully engrossed.
She grimaces as she sits down, settling in behind her computer, trying her best to focus on the multitude of things she has to do today, instead of the swirling storm raging within her abdomen.
Unlocking her computer, she stops suddenly, looking down. Near the G and H buttons in the center of her keyboard, is a single piece of extremely rich and decadent chocolate, individually wrapped and placed gently on the keys.
She still feels awful but the touching treat makes her smile. She knows he's observant but this is a pretty surprising thing to remember, and the sweet gesture makes her look up through the glass at him.
When she glances up, she finds he's been staring at her, soft smile on his lips. He shoots her a wink and mouths out a "you're welcome" and she blushes a bit, unwrapping the chocolate and popping it in her mouth still gazing at him.
She can see him visibly swallow and she smirks in return, before nodding a thanks and turning back to her computer screen to start the day.
Later on, when he's coming back to his office from a meeting in the conference room with a client, he takes note of her face and sees that she's struggling and when he reaches her desk he says, "Donna, go home."
"What?" she asks, surprised.
"Go home, get some chunky monkey. Nothing else is gonna happen today."
"But—"
"Go," he whispers.
"Okay," she says quietly in return.
Right before he enters his office, he hears her soft "Thank you, Harvey."
He turns to her and smiles, sending a nod her way.
The gesture becomes a routine, every month, chocolate and early dismissal, until their relationship shifts into much more and instead of chocolate and leaving early, there's cuddles on the couch and pints of chunky monkey in his freezer and instead of leaving chocolate on her keyboard, he finds her chunky monkey with a spoon.
