Chapter 2: "Come In"

Dear Diary,
She is real, she looks like Katherine but human. I wanted to know her more and protect her from any danger. I'm not going to let anybody hurt her, especially not my sister.
Eiji continued to tap his pen against the mahogany desk, his eyes directed to a certain old picture with an ink tinted scribbled name; Katherine, 1864.
A raven-haired crow screeched loudly from his opened window and he knew exactly who was visiting him.
"Mei," He began.
"Hello, brother." Mei smirked, "How's it been? 1914 if memory serves me right."
"How'd you know where I was and that I would come here?" Eiji inquired but he knew the answers already, the feud going on between them was what both led them here. The very place where they'd met a girl and not just any other girl.
"I thought I'd just visit my brother," Said Mei smugly.
"Last time I checked, you said you didn't have anything to do with me. Why are you here now, Mei?"
"I could ask you the same question, however, I'm fairly certain that your answer would sum up into one little word." Mei ran her finger through her silky jet-black hair and continued, "Yuzu."
"After all these years, can we give it a stop?!" Eiji furrowed his brows, he definitely didn't want history to repeat itself and if he could put it a rest, he certainly would. "She's not Katherine."
Mei huffed, "Oohf, thank God, we both know how that ended."
"I won't let you hurt her, not on my watch."
"I'll take that as an invitation. But no, I won't hurt her. I have something else in mind. In one condition."
"I'll do anything you wanted me to do." Eiji was slightly shaking, in comparison to his sister, he's less powerful the moment he chose to consume animal blood.
"Let me protect her." Mei took the picture on Eiji's desk, "I don't want her to end up like Katherine."
Eiji's eyes widened, he never once trusted his sister, especially when it comes to the girl they both loved. But since they're on the same side, he would take any form of help, "Yes."
It was Yuzu's tradition to visit her parents' grave after school and write everything down in her lime green leather notebook. It was good therapy for her, considering she had nobody else aside from Harumi and Matsuri.
Dear Diary,
Today I decided to leave off everything behind, it's not going to be easy but at least I'm trying. I met somebody today and trust me when I say he's handsome, because hell, he is. His name's Eiji but we haven't talked that much, he has a weird sister, practically his twin and maybe, we can be friends, best friends even.
A crow made itself known in front of Yuzu and she almost jumped from her own skin.
"Oh my god! You scared me! I guess it's just us here, crow." Yuzu continued to scribble down something on her notebook, and when she realized that a fog gathered around her, she stood immediately and ran.
When she felt she was safe enough, she faltered in her tracks to turn around, only to be greeted by a familiar set of eyes. She gasped in surprise.
She pressed her palms against her violently beating heart. "You scared me! Are you following me?"
"No, I just wanted to visit someone." Mei said, eyes still planted on Yuzu as her brows knitted, "Are you okay?"
"I'm sorry, I'm so tactless, who are you visiting? As for me, I'm fine, now that you're here, I thought somebody's lurking at me." Yuzu's breathing was still uneven.
"I'm visiting my parents." Mei smelled blood, black veins appeared under her eyes. She looked away and rubbed it before Yuzu could see it. "Are you hurt?"
Yuzu lifted the hem of her jeans and saw a small cut right exactly on her left ankle, "Oh, it's nothing big." She covered it again and winced once the clothing touched her open wound. She stared at Mei again and asked, "Are you okay? You look pale."
Mei controlled herself and mustered all the courage to reply, "I'm sorry, I think I'm not feeling good."
"Are you sure? You can crash at my place, it's just a walking distance from here." Yuzu was always kind, she'd help anybody without any further questions.
"That would be great," She smirked but hid it as she directed her gaze downwards.
"We don't have anything that much," Said the blonde as she plunged her key into the keyhole and twisted the knob, "So please, make yourself comfortable."
Mei hesitated to enter, she could still feel a strong force that's preventing her from going inside.
Shit, I'm not invited yet.
"What are you doing?" Yuzu laughed a little, "I swear I'm not gonna kill you. Come in."
Mei felt the invisible wall that separated her from Yuzu wore off as she made her first step inside Yuzu's empty and solemn house, "Thank you. Do you live here alone?"
"Yes, but sometimes Harumin and Matsuri make occasional visits. How about you, I heard that your family is loaded." Yuzu hadn't heard anything about that, she did research.
"Our family owns a mansion here, it's an old one though," Mei replied. She noted Yuzu's nervous laugh.
The blonde started making drinks for both of them as Mei's eyes scanned around the living room. She saw a collection of pictures, one with Yuzu wearing a victorian dress. She touched the picture longingly, she's just the dead ringer of her "Katherine," she said softly and it made Yuzu stop dead on her tracks.
"I heard that name somewhere, I couldn't just place where and when.." The blonde placed the bowl of chips and two beers on the table. "Anyway, who are you calling Katherine?"
Mei settled the picture back down to its place and sat next to the blonde, "Do you believe in doppelgangers?"
"No, I wish they don't exist." Said Yuzu while popping the chips inside her mouth. Her eyes remained on Mei's ringed finger. "That's pretty."
"What?" Mei found herself comparing Yuzu to Katherine, they differed in character.
"Your ring, I saw the same thing from your brother and I think it's pretty."
"They're important to me." Said Mei as she played with its silver rim.
"Can I look at it?" Asked the blonde with full hope and curiosity in her eyes.
"We're not allowed to remove it." Replied Mei as she hid her finger with her hand.
"Give me your hand." She reached out to Mei's hand and held it with both of hers delicately, eyeing the details of her ring.
"It's beautiful." Complimented Yuzu, "So the 'M' represents your name, right?"
"Yes," replied Mei meekly.
Mei's eyes traced every detail on the blonde's face like she was burning it in her memory. Her almond-shaped eyes with green iris, her fair and toned skin, her fully stout pink lips…
"Do I have anything on my face?" Asked the blonde as the latter blushed.
Mei's ears turned red as well, "Umm, no, you just look like Katherine."
"I've been hearing that name, but I don't know her nor am I her.'
"I'm sorry." Mei balled her hands into fists.
"Don't be sorry, silly!" said Yuzu as she touched the raven-haired girl's shoulder.
The doorbell rang, and the blonde immediately stood, "I think that's Harumin and Matsuri."
When she opened the door, she was straight away tackled by both of her friends, when they parted from the hug, Harumi spoke first "Look who we brought here."
A guy smiled widely, "I'm sorry for not telling you beforehand, I'm just looking for my sister."
Mei rose from the couch and stared at the guy with creased brows, her nostrils flared in anger.
"You're here," Eiji said. "I've been looking around for you."
Mei sighed, the last thing she wanted to see was her brother… and him being invited inside.
"You can chill here for a bit." Harumi suggestively said.
"Yes, come in."
And with that, Eiji grinned successfully.
A/N: Didn't bother proofreading it. Just so you know, Mei is like an anti-protagonist. She is the actual Damon Salvatore here, and Eiji is Stefan.
I seriously am crazy about Damon S. that I bought an actual replica of his ring. Anyway, I hope I didn't bore all of you. Made it out of haste. And I lied about not updating. Please do visit my main fic though.
