Hundreds of purple capes floated away from the soldiers like phantoms, their steps so light to not make a sound on the ground. They retreated after seeing Tatara's signal at the top of a building nearby, accompanied by Noro and Ayato.
As the Aogiri tree members left the army, the soldiers scurried to their dead companions. Some even cried.
Observing the battleground, Tatara showed no expression on his face as he saw the piles of dead bodies.
"Tatara, I have to check on something." Ayato said from behind.
Hesitating for a moment, Tatara turned around, and saw Ayato's worried expression half covered by his mouth scarf. "You may proceed." He agreed.
Without waiting a second, Ayato leaped swiftly from the top of one building to another, using his ukaku wings to land lightly, like a dead leaf. Hurrying from one building to the next, Ayato constantly gave the street below a glance, checking to see that he hasn't missed anything.
Then, as the buildings got shorter, he heard voices below him.
Turning his head, Ayato slowly crawled towards the edge of the building, and saw two girls and a man. His elder sister, Touka, was sitting on the ground.
Sighing, Ayato was about to leave, when he heard her voice, hopeless and disconsolate.
"K-Kaneki is probably not going to come back for a while."
Frowning, Ayato leaned closer again to the edge of the roof.
Touka turned her head towards the building, and although it was from above, Ayato saw her expression clearly.
Tears covered her eyes as her mouth opened a little. Her eyebrows were curved outwards. She was clearly devastated, and in a lot of pain.
K-Kaneki...
Ayato recalled what she said. This was about him wasn't it? He was the cause for her tears, for her twisted eyebrows. He caused her pain, after he tortured me and accused me for making my own sister sad.
Slowly, Ayato stood back up on the roof with a trembling body. He gritted his teeth so hard that they threatened to crack. "Bastard..." He murmured through a shaking voice.
"FUCKING BASTARD!" He screamed towards the sky. His kakugan eyes were covered in black veins when he looked back up. They are the vengeful eyes of a SS-rated ghoul.
Touka turned her head in surprise towards the building where she heard the scream from. A-Ayato? A wing, of sapphire and ruby, flashed on the top of her eyes before it disappeared.
With murder in his eyes, Ayato sped towards the hospital that Kaneki was kept in.
"What is going on? My head is hurting... I don't know anything!" Kaneki pushed his forehead as hard as he can, trying to null the pain in his head.
"Everything is alright. Your name is Ken Kaneki." The poor teen heard a voice speak in a parental tone. Looking up with the eyes of a lost child, Kaneki saw a middle-aged man with grey hair, wearing a white robe.
"K-Ken Kaneki..." He whispered his own name with uncertainty.
"You are a ghoul." The man spoke again.
"I-... I am a ghoul. S-Strangely, somewhere in my head, I know I am a ghoul." Kaneki looked into an empty monitor screen, and saw a single reflected black and red eye with a piercing light.
Suddenly, his brain felt like bursting as he felt more thoughts enter his head. He released a small groan.
"You're suffering from amnesia, Kaneki-kun. There is an obstacle that is blocking memories of your past." Kaneki heard the man's voice.
"I-I'm one-eyed-ghoul?" Kaneki felt a strange sensation, as if the word "one-eyed-ghoul" seemed to belong to him.
"Yes Kaneki-kun. Very good, it seems you still remember the fundamentals. Then, it should be easier to release your kagune again." Kaneki didn't ask what a "kagune" is, but felt a tingling down his back.
"W-Who are you?" Kaneki then asked the man.
"I'm your papa, because I created you. My name is Dr. Kanou." Dr. Kanou spoke gently.
"P-Papa. You created me?" Kaneki asked.
"Yes, I created one-eyed-ghouls. You weren't the only one. Want to meet your sisters?" Dr. Kanou smiled at Kaneki, and waved towards the door.
Two small girls came in, looking both identical and opposite to each other. Although they had the same figure, and the same face, one seemed like an angel from the sky, with white hair and white clothing, while the other seemed like a fallen angel, with black hair and black clothing. The white haired girl had the same piercing light in her right eye, while the other had the light in her left eye.
They smiled at Kaneki, making Kaneki's mouth open in awe.
"Meet Kurona and Nashiro Yasuhisa." Dr. Kanou introduced, pointing to the black haired girl, then to the white haired.
"Hello, Onii-chan!" Kurona exclaimed. "I hope you're feeling better!" Nashiro added.
"M-My sisters?" Looking at Dr. Kanou again, Kaneki inquired.
"Yes, we're your sisters, because papa created us too!" Kurona tilted her head as she said, closing her eyes to form a sweet smile.
At first, Kaneki's mouth was open in shock, but soon, he revealed a small smile. He felt like home with Nashiro, Kurona, and Dr. Kanou. They made him feel welcome to this world, this world that he has basically no knowledge about whatsoever. They're like his... family, inseparable family.
"Investor Takizawa! You have to stay strong!"
Seidou heard a distant voice calling to him as he was drifting in space. "M-Mado?" He tried to move his body, and felt himself leaving the fantasy.
He opened his eyes slowly, but the same darkness he saw against his closed eyelids appeared in front of him. "W-Where am I? Amon-san? Mado? Houji-san?"
"I see that you are awake, Takizawa-kun."
Suddenly, Seidou heard a feminine voice call from his left. Turning his head in panick, he saw a single kakugan stare into his eyes. "O-One-eyed... One-eyed-owl..." He stuttered as he made out a smirk beneath the kakugan eye.
"Correct. Takizawa-kun, welcome to Aogiri Tree." The kakugan approached him rapidly, and finally, he made out a small figure, wrapped in bandages as his eyes adjusted to the dark.
"Aogiri? I-I'm in Aogiri? No... I want to leave... let me go, I want to see Houji-san!" Seidou shouted desperately.
"Do you really think they'll welcome you back... after they see your left arm?" The girl in front of him said with a tempting voice. Seidou began shivering, and slowly turned his head towards his left arm, fearing the infinite possibilities.
He saw a deformed red arm, twice as skinny and twice as small as his other arm.
"AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Seidou screamed in a petrified tone.
He remember now. He remember the unbearable pain as a kakuja bit his left arm off. What is this grotesque thing doing on his left shoulder?
"You are a ghoul now, Seidou Takizawa-kun." Seidou saw the girl before him curl up her lips in an intimidating smile. His eyes opened up wide as he heard the word "ghoul".
Trying to move his arms, Seidou watched as the meat moved in an unnatural manner. It wasn't artificial, it certainly belonged to him.
"N-No... No! I'm not a ghoul... I'm a ghoul investor!" He shivered and quivered as he spoke, doubting his own words. Gravely, he turned his head again at his left arm, hoping for it to disappear, but the disgusting red flesh was still there. No human could regenerate an arm. His eyes lost their hope.
He was a ghoul now.
To be continued...
