Joker sat in the car, his guy carrying Tessa in the hospital had been a hard sight to watch. He was tempted to just burst inside and not worry about the consequences. His hand had been on the door handle when he pressed that impulse back. Tessa needed to be the innocent victim here. He made himself sit in the car, waiting patiently for the guy to get back.
His man moved into the drivers seat and looked at him through the mirror.
"Where to Boss?"
"The warehouse."
The man pulled out of the lot and into traffic, Joker was in his head, a very dangerous place right now. He could feel the pent up tension in his hands, he had sat here in this seat as Tessa was bleeding. When she passed out, he had nearly shot the idiot driving for going too slow. He watched her shallow breathing, having flashes of the rooftop transposing over her, here with him. The tacky feeling of drying blood pulled him back into reality. He was covered in her blood. His shirt had a few smudges from when he had carried her, but the entire seat and his pants were dark with the stuff. He normally enjoyed the sight. At the moment it made him feel nauseated.
The car pulled up to the warehouse and Joker got out, he slammed the door to the car and waited for the driver to get out.
"Bring me Dougie and Cecil."
He into the building and straight to his office. He couldn't think straight with her blood all over him and no clue if she was okay. He'd known Tessa right at a year and he had almost caused her death twice. The first time was beautiful, she had done in for him, it had a purpose. He knew he loved her at that moment. This time was pointless. A jealous rage from his doc. He changed his clothes, grabbing his knife along the way. He looked down at it. This was Tessa's knife. When he got out of Arkham the last time, he found it twisted in the sheets on his bed. He'd kept it with him since. He needed to get it back to her once she was out of the hospital.
His thoughts went back to all the blood, her blood. He was out of the door and in the main room of the warehouse. He stepped into the large open area and looked at the two dimwits he had asked to keep an eye on his girl.
"Dougie, Cecil, I am very, very disappointed."
They opened their mouths to speak but he raised the hand that held the knife.
"No, you don't get to talk yet." He started to walk back and forth between the men. "Your job was to keep an eye on her. She was taken from her car. The one you did not make sure drove away."
His grip tightened on the handle, he forced it to loosen again.
"If you two had done your jobs correctly, I would not have had to find her bleeding to death."
He moved quick, he pulled his gun, shooting Dougie in the knee causing the man to fall. He lunged at Cecil, while the man was in a stunned stupor. He quickly stuck him with the knife, repeating the process until he was drenched in his own blood. Then he moved to Dougie, the man was on the ground whimpering in pain. Joker knelt down and slowly moved the knife to the soft midsection of the crying man. Joker laid the blade on him. Then slowly pushing the very sharp blade into flesh. The man screamed as his flesh parted like butter.
Joker twisted the knife, watching the deep dark blood pour from the man. He felt slightly better, he wiped the blade on the mans shirt and stood to leave. He made his way to the small sink and washed the blood off of his hands and Tessa's knife. She wouldn't like having blood on it. With the tension gone from his body, he relaxed enough to try to reach Tessa.
He called the cell phone he had left put in her pocket. She answered on the first ring.
"Hello?" Oh it felt good to hear her voice.
"Any news?"
"She'd been spotted in Bludhaven with the baby. That's all I know right now." He was going to fucking kill the doc.
"Are you okay?" He needed to hear her say it. Needed her to reassure him that she was okay.
"Yea, I'll be released in the morning."
A calm rushed through him. She would be fine. She was fine. He had gotten her there in time. He hadn't even realized he'd spoken as the words came out of him. "You scared me when you passed out in the car."
"This entire last year makes me think I might be harder to kill than most people."
"I knew you were special, like me." She was right, she flirted with death and kept walking away mostly unscathed. She laughed now, the sound was beautiful.
"I want her dead." she whispered into the phone.
God damn it she could she be any more perfect? He didn't think so. Of course Harley would die. They could kill her together if that was what Tessa wanted. Joker could push her to that edge and cement her into his life. "I know. First things first." he told her.
"I gotta go." She hung up on him.
Joker set the phone down and flopped down into the chair in his office. She was fine, she was safe. He needed to find Harley.
He wondered if Batman would catch her? Would he hand her over to the cops? Dumb question, of course he would. Joker would just have to get to her first. His phone started to ring. He looked down and smiled when he seen her name.
"Well?" he said.
"He's safe but Harley got away."
"Don't worry about her, let me take care of that. You get the baby and come home." He just wanted her safe.
"I will get the baby and I will take him home, my home, that hasn't changed." he couldn't help but growl into the phone. "I'll let you know when we get there."
"Tessa."
"We talked about this. I will see you later. I love you." She hung up.
He could choke the life from her sometimes. She had told him she loved him. He slapped the phone down on the desk and rubbed his face. He needed to get to Harley.
