They headed back to their seats, with Sirius telling Harry to sit in the Potter seat while he sat in the Black seat, which were conveniently located beside each other.
Dumbledore headed to the podium, casting a Sonorus charm and stating, "Today's Wizengamot session has started. Aurors, please seal the doors."
The Wizengamot session started as it always had since the very first session. Finally, after twenty minutes, though it felt like days to Harry, the Wizengamot finally got down to business.
"The Director for Magical Law Enforcement, Madam Bones, wishes to bring something up," Dumbledore announced
Madam Bones walked up to the front, addressing the Wizengamot, "As many of you may know by now, a great wrong was wrought on one of us, and he was sent to Azkaban without a trial."
This brought many whispers and titters to the Wizengamot, who did not like it when another member of the Wizengamot had been wronged since it meant that the same thing could happen to them.
Clearing her throat, Madam Bones continued, "Lord Sirius Orion Black, then Heir Black, was sent to Azkaban without a trial thirteen years ago, supposedly for his part in the murder of the late Lord and Lady Potter. However he was never given a trial but was simply thrown into Azkaban as the Minister of Magic and Director for Magical Law Enforcement at that time did not think it necessary to give him a trial, and neither did the Chief Warlock think it necessary to ask for a trial to be given to him, as is the right of a citizen of Magical Britain. For a citizen, much less the heir of a Most Ancient and Noble House to not be given that basic right is an injustice."
This riled the Wizengamot up, and the level of chatter and noise was so great that Madam Bones had to cast a Sonorus charm and clear her throat to attract the attention of the Wizengamot again.
"As such last Friday night, Minister Fudge, Chief Warlock Dumbledore, and I have rectified that wrong and I would like to show the Wizengamot the proceedings."
She then showed what had happened in Dumbledore's office, starting with the questioning of Sirius, followed by Pettigrew, then finally Snape with veritaserum, then showing Harry's memory of what had happened that night, from the time they arrived at the Whomping Willow to when they entered the main gates of Hogwarts.
Once everything had been shown to the Wizengamot, Madam Bones announced that Pettigrew had been thrown into the Veil of Death, which was met with cheers by about two-thirds of the Wizengamot, and that Sirius had been pardoned.
After that, Sirius accepted his role as Lord Black, a member of the High Council of the Wizengamot, giving his oath to the Wizengamot. Thereafter, it was Harry's turn to accept his role as Heir Potter and Heir Peverell, that Sirius and Harry had decided would be the only house other than Potter that he would publicly announce he was the Heir of, for now.
He walked up to the front, a dozen different possibilities of how he could mess up terribly and make a fool of himself running through his head. He took a deep breath, remembering what Hermione had said to him last night whilst rubbing his hand comfortingly after he confessed his worries to her in the Gryffindor common room after dinner.
"Don't be scared Harry, I know you'll do well, you always do. Show them that you deserve your role as Heir Potter and Heir Peverell, and despite not having as much training as other Heirs, you can do as well as, if not better than them."
He mustered all the courage he could, and raised his wand, giving a similar oath to the one Sirius had given, before walking back to his seat, wondering how he was going to ever have the courage to stand up in front of the Wizengamot and make a speech, which he would like have to do sometime in the future when he became Lord Potter and had to discuss issues that would affect the Wizarding World.
Then, the Potter Will was unsealed and read in front of the Wizengamot, further confirming the fact that Sirius was indeed innocent. The section in the Potter will about Harry's guardian allowed the matter of Harry not being appointed the right guardians to be raised, and made many in the Wizengamot wonder why the will was sealed and Harry's guardian was appointed by the Ministry when the Potter will assigned perfectly capable members of Most Ancient and Noble Houses to be Harry's guardian.
This allowed Sirius to announce that he was now the magical and legal guardian of Harry after filing the paperwork with the Ministry the day before. This was met with acceptance by the Wizengamot, and Sirius was declared Regent Potter and Regent Peverell until Harry turned fourteen and would be able to vote for the Potter and Peverell seats himself.
Afterwards, the Wizengamot session went on as per usual, with issues being raised and resolved, or set to the side to discuss at the next session as a solution could not be agreed on. Harry sat there throughout it, feeling bored out of his mind, wondering when the session would finally be over.
This is the most boring thing ever! Even more than History or Magic lessons. I wonder whether I can poke Sirius and ask him when we'll be done. What time is it? I'm hungry. Is it not lunch time already? Do these adult wizards not get hungry too? I should have brought my watch along so that I will know the time.
Finally, after what seemed like years, Dumbledore announced that there would be an hours break for lunch, and the Wizengamot would reconvene at two o'clock. Harry got up and stretched, then looked over at Sirius who had stood up and was now directly beside him, smiling at him.
"Wasn't that fun?"
Harry looked at him in utter shock and confusion, wondering how anyone could find that fun. Noticing his disbelief, Sirius smacked Harry lightly in the back, saying, "I'm just joking! Don't look at me like that!"
Realising that he had been tricked, Harry rolled his eyes, replying sarcastically, "Phew, I thought you became a stuffy old man."
"Oh come on," Sirius said, leading Harry towards the area where Lord Greengrass, Madam Longbottom, and Madam Bones were talking. Sirius joined in their discussion and after a while, Madam Bones asked where they were heading for lunch. When all of them said they were not sure, Madam Bones suggested eating together at a popular restaurant on Diagon Alley, which all of them agreed to, knowing the high quality of food that was served there.
They headed out of the Ministry and onto the streets of Diagon Alley together, catching a rather large amount of attention due to the formal robes they were wearing, which were much fancier and more expensive than those that most of the other wizards and witches on Diagon Alley were wearing. A short walk later, they reached an expensive looking restaurant with a long queue that snaked around and Harry gawked at the queue, wondering how long they would have to wait before they could enter the restaurant and have their lunch.
However, the adults seemed to have no intention of queuing, instead walking straight up to the front desk and approaching the witch that sat there. Harry followed in confusion, wondering why they were cutting the queue and how they were able to do it without anyone in the queue protesting about it.
"We would like a table for five please," Lord Greengrass told the lady sitting at the front desk.
She looked up, recognising who they were from the crests on their formal robes, and immediately stood up, saying, "Of course, please follow me."
Harry followed, still confused about why they were allowed to immediately be seated though there were many other people behind them in the queue who had probably been waiting for a long while to get a seat.
Harry tapped Sirius on his arm, whispering, "Sirius, don't we have to queue? There's so many people waiting behind us."
Sirius looked at him, before smiling and replying, "No, it's one of the benefits of being part of a Most Ancient and Noble House. You basically have a permanent reservation at every restaurant as when the High Council of the Wizengamot was first founded in the 10th century, the land in Wizarding Britain was split up amongst the ten Houses in the High Council of the Wizengamot for them to take care of and make sure it is properly used. About a third of the land was split up equally amongst the ten houses while the other two thirds belonged to the High Council of the Wizengamot and each House had equal day over what to do with the land and would earn an equal amount of the profits from the land. As there are currently six houses in the High Council of the Wizengamot, each House now earns a sixth of the profit from the land. As such, even till today, most of the land in Magical Britain is owned by the Most Ancient and Noble Houses, including the land the restaurants are built on so restaurants allow members of Most Ancient and Noble Houses to enter without queuing as in a way, they own part of the restaurant. Most people know that so they don't say anything when they see someone from a Most Ancient and Noble House cutting the queue, and we're currently wearing formal robes, which makes it obvious that we're from Most Ancient and Noble Houses. Although, usually, restaurants aren't this busy, this one just opened a month ago and many people want to try it."
"Oh."
As Harry was going to ask something else about it, he was cut off as they had arrived in a private room with a table in the center and were getting seated. Sirius pulled out the chair for Madam Bones, who sat down beside him, while Lord Greengrass pulled out the chair for Madam Longbottom who sat down beside him, and across Sirius. Afterwards, Lord Greengrass and Sirius both sat, with Harry sitting beside Sirius.
Soon, the waiter came, and asked them what they would like to eat. After they each ordered their appetizer and main course, Sirius continued talking with the other adults while Harry sat there listening.
After a while, the food came and Harry thought it looked even more delicious than the food at Hogwarts. He quickly started eating his food, and when he put the first bite into his mouth, he was impressed by how marvellous it tasted. After a delicious lunch, the adults decided to all order dessert, and agreed on the chocolate pudding topped with raspberries. It arrived quickly, and was consumed even more quickly, with Harry wondering how food could taste so good. Just as they finished the dessert and were about to leave to return to the Ministry of Magic, Sirius tapped Harry on his shoulder, passing him his nutrient potion under the table, which he reluctantly took and consumed, washing its bitter taste down with the last gulp of his drink.
Then, they left the restaurant, without paying for their bills but simply stamping each of their family crests beside the name of what they ordered, with Sirius stamping for both Harry and himself. Confused, Harry asked Sirius, "Why didn't you pay? You just stamped your family crest there. How does it work?"
"We do, it's automatically credited to our family's account at Gringotts. This way, it's much easier and quicker and doesn't require us to have to spend time counting coins one by one."
Nodding his head in understanding, Harry continued walking, and soon they were back in the Wizengamot chambers, with five minutes to spare till the session would start again. The session soon commenced, with more routine things happening, causing Harry to be bored out of his mind once again.
After another few hours, the Wizengamot session finally ended and by that time, it was already five thirty. Sirius quickly conversed with the other heads of the Most Ancient and Noble Houses, agreeing to meet them at Greengrass manor soon, and left with Harry, bringing him back to Hogwarts.
Once they arrived back in Hogwarts, Sirius talked to Harry about the Wizengamot session, telling him that he would need to attend the Summer Wizengamot session that is traditionally held in the second week of the Hogwarts summer holidays since the Heirs of the Houses on the Wizengamot, many whom were still attending Hogwarts, had to attend the session as it allowed them to be familiarised with the Wizengamot and how it worked. Sirius promised Harry that it would be less boring as Sirius would have taught Harry more about the Wizengamot by then, allowing Harry to understand what was going on better instead of sitting there not understanding most of what was happening.
After having idle chatter with Harry for a while more, Sirius realised it was already six o'clock and that he had to leave. He said goodbye to Harry, hugging him tightly and left, flooing back to Black manor.
Harry left Remus' office, walking up to the Gryffindor common room in search of Hermione, who as he had expected, was sitting at one of the tables in front of the fireplace writing an essay. Harry pulled out the chair next to her, sitting in it, causing Hermione to startle and smudge the ink on her quill onto her essay.
"Harry! Look what you've done! Now I'll have to rewrite this part!"
"Oh sorry Hermione, I was just too excited to see you again."
"Oh, alright. How was the Wizengamot session? Did it go smoothly?"
"It was very boring. I didn't stumble when I had to go up there to speak though."
"That's good Harry! There, I told you that you could do it."
"I don't want to have to ever go back there and sit through that again. But Sirius told me that all the Heirs of the Houses on the Wizengamot would be attending the Summer Wizengamot session to get familiarised with the proceedings of the Wizengamot and so I will have to go too. On the Wednesday of the second week of the Summer holidays! How unfair is that?"
Laughing, Hermione comforted Harry by saying, "At least there'll be other people from Hogwarts there right? Perhaps it will be less boring since you'll have more company."
"Oh, perhaps. At least Neville will be there, since he's Heir Longbottom."
"Yes," Hermione replied, pausing in her response as she suddenly remembered Harry's holiday homework that she had kept for him, and digging around her bag for it.
"There you go Harry! Here's your holiday homework for Transfiguration and Herbology. The other teachers haven't given any holiday homework yet. I expect they will by this Thursday. Oh, and lessons on Friday are cancelled as the teachers have decided to give us an extra free day this year. Although I don't think they should..."
Harry partially zoned off as Hermione continued talking in her usual manner, talking about school, and homework, two things that Harry was not particularly interested in after sitting through hours of an exceedingly mundane Wizengamot session.
After a while, Hermione realised that Harry was not listening to her anymore, something that she knew for a fact he never did, unlike Ron, she thought to herself, unless he was extremely tired.
"Oh, sorry Harry! I should stop rambling. You must be tired of hearing people ramble on and on after the Wizengamot session."
Harry laughed in response, being startled out of his daze. Their conversation moved on to lighter topics until it was time for dinner, and they left for the great hall, talking all the way there and through dinner, completely absorbed in their conversation with each other.
