It's been eighteen weeks since I've seen my friend
And it's hard for me to comprehend how this happened
Oh, perhaps it's just a phase

Ever since Jay has been with Nya, Cole felt like he was slowly getting replaced. He knew Jay didn't mean to. He hoped that this was just a phase.

When we turned thirteen, yeah we made a pact
That we'd always have each other's back
And it's tragic, but I think I've been replaced

Cole remembers when he and Jay first met and how they became fast friends. They made a pact between themselves that they would always stay friends and that nobody would ever tear them apart. He recognized the signs of him being replaced. Jay never had time to spend with him anymore.

Seems to me those days I don't know time for fun
No more time for friendship
Just last week I called him up to make some plans, I said

"I've got tickets to the ballgame if you want to go with me
I haven't seen you in a minute, I know it's your favorite team
I think they're gonna win 'cause they've been on a winning streak
And maybe when we're finished we could kick it by the beach"
You said "Hey man," and "Listen, I would love to, but you see
I've got plans with the missus for our anniversary"
I said, "Alright, I miss you, could you call me when you're free?"
And in my heart, I felt like something died inside of me

When Cole called Jay up on the phone to go to a ballgame, Jay's favorite team the cardinals were playing the Yankees. He nervously started rambling that he thought the Cardinals were going to win because they've been on a winning streak. But when Jay rejected him because he once again was hanging out with Nya, Cole swore he felt something die inside of him.

At this point, Cole hadn't hung out with Jay in months. He knew he was getting replaced. Jay just didn't have enough time for both him and Nya.

Oh, I'd hate for this to be the end
But I just can't see how we can mend this divide now
I don't think there's any way
I know friendships fade and plans can change
Was naive to think that we would stay close forever
Maybe that was my mistake

Looking back Cole realized that he was naive to think their friendship would last forever. After all, nothing lasts forever, He should've learned that lesson with his mom.

When Cole asked Jay to go with him to the ball game again this time it was so he could talk to Jay about how he was feeling replaced. So when Jay rejected Cole saying ¨ sorry I can time and Nya are hanging out again. Cole snapped he yelled at Jay that¨ you're replacing me for Nya whatever happened to our old oath? I guess I should've nothing will last forever. Cole walks away after seeing a look of hurt cross Jay's face.

Cole then realized that I guess this is how it feels to be replaced.
