Logan and Colin pulled up to the hospital and neither made a move to get out of the car. Colin was worried about Logan, after their talk Logan had stayed silent for the remainder of the ride. He didn't know how Logan was handling everything and knew he did nothing to help his friend's mental state by voicing his opinions and now wished he had not said anything even though he knew it needed to be said. Before New Hampshire they all thought that Logan was finally going to fight for Rory, tell her how he felt. But Rory left and Logan drew into himself. He didn't want to speak about that night and there was an aura of anger and disappointment that seemed to surround him. The boys were all worried about him, but he wouldn't talk to any of them. Leaving Rory in New Hampshire nearly broke him.
Logan studied the hospital in front of him and didn't know what to do. He wanted to run in there and check on Rory and the baby, but he was rooted to his spot. The last day was full of surprises, emotions… and he still hadn't sorted through any of them. He was upset that Rory believed that he would have reacted the way it seemed, but he couldn't be upset with her. Everyone was right, he was so afraid to let her in again that he held back and kept up the appearances that she wasn't as important to him as she was. There was so much he would go back and change it he couldn't, but all that he could do now was try and move forward. Slowly he got out of the car and walked into hospital, it was time to face his future.
Rory had fallen back asleep and Emily sat on the chair next to her and watched her granddaughter sleep. All she could hope was the Logan and Rory could somehow work through this to at least co-parent. She knew it would take a lot for the pair of them to become a proper couple, but Emily remembered the way the two of them used to look at each other. Her and Richard had been so disappointed when Rory had turned down the proposal. Now, after all these years Emily understood more of what had happened and how she was so conflicted about following her heart or following the path that had been pushed of her for almost her entire life. She regretted not seeing how conflicted Rory had been over the years or how she caved to Lorelai's wants and demands. Rory had always seemed like a strong young woman but under the influence of Lorelai she always faltered. Now that Lorelai was out of Rory's life and what Rory had discovered about herself during therapy Emily could only hope that Rory would be open to embrace and accept what she should have years ago.
Logan and Colin walked into the hospital and immediately spotted Finn so walked over to him.
"How is she?" Logan asked running his fingers through his hair.
Finn studied his exhausted friend and tried to give him a small smile. "Asleep right now. She's been that was for about 30 minutes. I went and got her lunch, so she had something other than hospital food. Mrs. Gilmore is with her right now."
"Lorelai?" Logan asked slightly shocked based on what the employee told them yesterday.
"No," Finn sighed, "Emily. I asked about Lorelai… Rory wouldn't say anything but after she fell asleep I asked Emily." Finn sighed and ran his hand over his face. "Something happened between Rory and Lorelai but Emily wont say much. They had a falling out the first time Rory was admitted to the hospital. Emily and Christopher stepped in and helped and from what it seemed Rory and Lorelai haven't spoken since then. And Logan, she needs to limit her stress. Last night she had an anxiety attack and started having contractions."
Logan paled as he listed to Finn and he slowly sank down into a seat. "But they are okay now?"
"Yeah, I think so," Finn replied. "The nurse let it slip that they are looking to release her tomorrow."
Logan stayed silent for a few moments trying to reign in his emotions that were all over the place. There was so much they needed to talk about but that all needed to wait. After a few more deep breaths he slowly stood. "Well lets go see her."
Finn nodded and led them down the hallway to Rory's door where he gently knocked, and Emily came to answer it. She studied all three men for a moment before moving to the side. "She is still asleep."
"Thank you, Emily," Logan quietly stated as he looked at the older woman. "I am so sorry about this," he started and took a few deep breaths. "I just want to assure you that I knew nothing about the pregnancy until yesterday. I could never put Rory through something like this."
Emily studied him and met his eyes. "I didn't want to believe that you could but your actions over the years," she paused and took a deep breath. "Both of you have been idiots but hearing her story I still put the majority of the blame on you. But I will tell you now, you will be careful to not put a lot of stress on her."
"Grandma," Rory called softly from the bed. "Your right we were both idiots."
"Ace," Logan exclaimed as he rushed to her side. He wanted to hug her, kiss her but didn't know what he could do. "I don't know what to do," he said sadly as he looked at her. "I don't know what to say Rory…"
Hearing his voice choke up she gently took his hand and squeezed. She glanced at the others in the room. "Could you all please give us… awhile," she asked as she made eye contact with her grandmother.
"Of course Rory," Emily said as she moved to hug her granddaughter. "Just remember what the doctor said."
"Yes grandma," Rory replied and looked at Colin. "Hi Colin, we'll talk later."
"Yeah reporter girl," he said with a smile before walking out of the room.
As soon as the door closed Logan broke into sobs and Rory rubbed his back. When he finally collected himself, he moved back to look at her. "I'm sorry Rory… you shouldn't have to comfort me, not after everything you have gone through." He took a deep breath and gently caressed her cheek. "I've been so worried since the ambulance last night and then seeing you here," he trailed off as he studied her. "God Ace, I am so sorry about everything. I swear I didn't know."
Rory took a deep breath and studied him. At one time she knew him so well, she could read his looks and tell how he was feeling but it had been so long since he actually let his guard down around her and let her see his emotions. "Logan" she finally sighed, "tell me what happened."
"Are you sure?" he asked worried about her. "Emily told us you need to limit your stress."
Rory nodded and sighed. "I think I will be more stressed not knowing."
"Okay," Logan said as he nodded. He then told her the facts, leaving out the confrontations he had with Finn and Colin. They went back into the house and getting the paperwork and he started to cry again as he thought about the letter, how they called Colin and after they looked at everything Colin gave them pictures of Odette and her affairs. They went to Mitchum who knew nothing about the pregnancy and then finally the confrontation that day with Odette and Shira. He told her about the video from the confrontation and she was welcome to watch it if she wanted. Mitchum had told Shira about the lunch he had saw them having and how Shira had gotten Odette to move in and how Odette had blocked her number when she called and texted him asking for him to call her. She had somehow gotten ahold of the email before he saw it and arranged everything. "I am so sorry Rory," he said when he finished. "I wish… I wish I could fix this."
She studied him and saw how broken he was. "Logan we both made a lot of mistakes. I should have told you what I wanted from the beginning or just tried to forget you after you told me about Odette but… I cant think straight when it comes to you."
"I am so sorry about all of it, there is so much I want to try and explain to you. I was so afraid to let you in again, I couldn't handle it if you left me again so I tried to act like you meant less to me… I dated those girls to try and make you jealous I wanted you to tell me you wanted me. I was so stupid, I am so stupid. Especially yesterday I shouldn't have attacked you like that… It was just seeing you so pregnant and not knowing it hurt that you could keep me from that. I knew you would keep me from my child, but all rational thought disappeared as soon as I saw you… and you were so mad." He took a few deep breaths trying not to cry again. "I just… I couldn't handle you looking at me with such hate."
"Logan," she sighed and started tearing up herself. "I found out I was pregnant a little less than a month after New Hampshire. I tried calling you the day I went to the hospital to confirm. I freaked… I left you voice mails begging you to call me," a few tears escaped and she took a shuddering breath. "I couldn't get ahold of you… I was so upset I told Lorelai the evening she got married. She didn't say anything and just walked away from me. A few hours later we had her actual wedding and the next day… it wasn't pretty and I ended up in the hospital. Dad and Grandma came and I told them everything. Grandma immediately transferred the Hartford house to me and then they told me about my inheritances and trust funds that Lorelai knew about and never told me… It gave me peace of mind knowing that if you weren't involved, I would be able to take care of my baby. Grandma suggested a therapist and after talking to her and grandma and dad I sent you that e-mail. It was about a week after I sent it that the lawyers showed up. You read the papers, but it was nothing compared to the things they said to me. I had barely closed the door behind them when I had another anxiety attack. One of the maids called an ambulance and I ended up in the hospital for a week and bedrest for a month. Yesterday was one of the first days I felt like doing anything." She sighed and studied him for a long moment and saw the pain and hurt on his face. She knew everything she was telling him hurt but at the moment she needed him to understand where she was coming from. "I don't know what you want to happen, what you are expecting," Rory started and had to pause for a moment. "I have been planning on raising this child alone and now that you're here… what do you want."
Logan listened to her and his heart ached at everything she had gone through because he was to afraid to talk to her, to let her in. But hearing her ask him what he wanted and the look on her face broke his heart. His immediate response was to tell her they were getting married, they would raise this child together, but Colin's words rang in his mind about how he decided everything and never considered Rory. It was time he started righting those wrongs, so he took a deep breath. "What I want isn't important right now. What is important is I want to be there for our child, I want to be here for you however you will let me. Mitchum is letting me move back to Hartford and now that he is divorcing Shira I'll probably stay with him until I find my own place."
"Mitchum is divorcing Shira?" Rory asked shocked.
"I'm sorry I must have forgot that part of the story. After I left the restaurant, he was planning on telling her he was filing for divorce if it turned out she had anything to do with me not knowing about the baby." He took a deep breath and rubbed her hand. "He was pissed last night when we found out that she might be involved and today and lunch when it was confirmed… He wants to be involved in our child's life and he was livid with Shira for keeping me away from my child and him away from his grandchild."
"Wow," Rory muttered as she thought about these changes and still didn't know what to think. What surprised her the most was Logan's reaction and not trying to push her. She sighed and closed her eyes for a moment trying to gather herself. "I think we should go to counseling together. There is to much… stuff between us and for us to be able to coparent I think we need to sort it out. I want what is best for the baby and that is for you to be involved."
His heart swelled at Rory telling him she wanted him involved with the child but it hurt when she didn't say anything about her but he knew he needed to prove himself and that he was going to make this work. "If you want us to go to counseling then we will," he stated. "Rory, I want an us… but I know I have to prove to you that is what I really want. I want us to raise this child together. I will work and do whatever I need to do to prove that to you." He paused and took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment. "I love you, I've never stopped, and I've been an idiot. I have to be willing to have these hard conversations with you."
"Logan, I…" Rory paused and tears started pouring from her eyes and he sat on the edge of the bed pulling her into him.
"Ace," he whispered, "you don't need to tell me anything. I love you and if you cant tell me that back right now, I understand. I haven't treated you how you deserve. Finn, Colin, hell even Mitchum have made it abundantly clear. I can never tell you how sorry I am…" He rubbed her back and when he felt her start to get the tears under control he pulled slightly back and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Please just give me a chance to show you how I feel… to make this up to you."
"Okay," she whispered as she met his eyes. "I'll give you a chance to show me." She took a deep breath, "are you okay with seeing my therapist or do you want me to see if she could recommend someone else."
He gently brushed the tears from her face, "I want whoever will make you the most comfortable. I don't want to stress you so we go as slow as you want."
She nodded and buried her head in his chest, and he continued to rub her back and holding her close. How he had missed this, just holding her, he could feel his heart swell slightly at her allowing him to do this. There was a lot that needed to be discussed and a lot that they needed to work through, but he knew they could do this.
Eventually she pulled back and smiled at him. "You should probably message Colin and Finn and let them know they can come back. I'm going to message grandma, I'm sure they are all going crazy."
He let out a small chuckle, "your probably right. But doctors didn't rush in so they all know your okay. I think they would be fine with whatever punishment you leveled on me."
She studied him and grabbed his hand. "They were really tough on you, weren't they?"
He sighed, "yes and no. They said a lot of things and while I tried to rationalize things… they made me realize that I treated you horribly and I was being an ass. I needed to hear what they told me."
"We were both idiots," Rory sighed. "I was so afraid of pushing you… I needed you."
"I need you to," he stated as he looked into her eyes. "I'll need you more than you will ever know."
The moment was broken by a knock on the door and Rory called a come in and soon the room was filled with laughter. The group talked for a while until a nurse came in to check on Rory. Finn and Colin left with a promise to see her the next day, Emily also decided to head back to the Harford house for the evening, but Logan refused to leave her side. After the nurse and the group left Rory moved slightly on the bed to allow Logan to lay beside her.
"I know that we need to talk about so much," Rory stated with a yawn. "But for tonight can you just hold me?"
"Always Ace," he replied as he pulled her closer to him. "Just sleep, we have plenty of time to talk."
Soon Rory had fallen asleep and when he felt her breathing even out, he let himself go and slept.
Chris stopped by to visit and saw the pair laying in the small hospital bed and a small smile crossed his face. Quickly pulling out his phone he snapped a picture of the pair, Rory was laying partially on top of Logan, with a small smile on her lips and he had his arm wrapped around her, his face nestled in her hair. He wanted everything to work out between the two of them, he knew Rory needed this man and just hoped again that she would let him in. In all of the talks that he and Rory had had over the past months he knew how much saying no affected her and how her life had never felt fully complete. Looking at them now, he just hoped they would both be willing to fight for this relationship and work to put the past behind them and move forward. Slowly he walked out of the room and closed the door.
