Chapter 13

.

Over the next week the president prepared for his meeting with the alien ambassador. This meeting was kept under the strictest secrecy that could be imagined. Odonnell prepared as best he could, but it was impossible to know exactly what the aliens' motivations and goals were. He began looking into known UFO sightings. They recieved about 1500 reports every year. 95% could be dismissed as either a fraud or had a logical explanation. The other 5%, approximately 75 per year, couldn't be definitively dismissed. Odonnell covertly contacted a man named Travis Walton. In 1975 Travis dissapeared for five days, then reappeared and claimed to have been abducted by aliens. Many claimed that that Walton made the whole thing up for money, and indeed he was not above selling this story to the tabloids. His local police department suspected Travis and his friends of a hoax, which became a police matter if they lied to them about it and used police resources under false pretenses. They gave them all a lie detector, and they all passed. And now, two days before his scheduled meeting with the alien ambassador, president Odonnell met with Travis Walton.

.

Odonnell: Thank you for agreeing to meet with me Travis.

Travis: Anytime mr president. You're not the first president to ask to see me, covertly ofcourse.

Odonnell: Then I can count on your discretion.

Travis: Yes.

Odonnell: Is it true, were you abducted by aliens?

Travis: Yes. I was riding hme from work with my friends, and we saw this flying object. It was night, so I couldn't give you an accurate description of what it was. I went out for a closer look, and then I must have passed out. When I wake up I'm inside this mystery object, in a cell. They had faces, but no noses, which always struck me as odd. They did these experiments on me, stuff that still gives me laters. There were other humans, collaberators I guess you'd call them. I can't really blame them, I probably would have done anything to avoid having this done to me.

Odonnell: Do you know what the experiments were for?

Travis: According to the other humans, they were studying us humans, finding out what allowed us to survive in this particular world. They were developing, a vaccine.

Odonnell: To live here?

Travis: Suppossedly this species were refugees, doing whatever they had to do to survive, to blend in with us.

Odonnell: I'm going to let you in on a little secret, we've been contacted by aliens, maybe the same species who abducted you.

Travis: Did they say what they want?

Odonnell: They claim to be refugees, fleeing some great evil. They want to live here peacefully, using unused land and give us the technology to end famine.

Travis: And the rapture?

Odonnell: They claim that their enemy did this to us. Although why they would target primarily civilians and not military, I don't know.

Travis: I've long thought about why they'd do this to me, maybe they were desperate to save their people. In which case, they might be capable of anything.

Odonnell: You might be right. I'm meeting with their ambassador in a few days, let's hope that their intentions are peaceful.

Travis: Let's hope.
