Chapter 13

-At Kotai and Kamui's House-

-Narrator-

It has been 2 hours since Kamui has putted out the candles, but she could not sleep. She wants to rest a little bit, to be able to forget what happened during the day, even if this solution is only temporary. And yet, if physically she is able to use her body to the maximum of its capacity, the last day has exhausted her mentally.

However, the knight feels like she will not be able to fall asleep as her mind is bombarding her with the memories of all the stupid things she has done.

Toru hates her now, she felt her glares all day long, Maiko does not trust her anymore, it seems like the petite girl free trial of 'trust from Maiko' has expired.

And even Kotai is scared of her, she just have to slip one time and then everyone hate her guts. It has always been like that anyway, so why was she so hopeful? Was it because Kotai is just a child who is still innocent enough to not judge her for everything she does? Or maybe she is just stupid enough to think that this new world would be more friendlier then her own.

The knight looks at the egg she is holding as it purrs softly like it could understand what she was thinking. "You won't leave me too, right?" She whispers hugging it tighter, giving as much warmth to it.

She cannot cry, it is her fault if she is in this situation, she is a one meter and fifty four centimeters tall girl with enough power to destroy a neighborhood in one blow, which person with a sane mind would want to befriend her? That's right, nobody.

The petite girl suddenly feels movement from the bed next to her. "Miss Emiya?" A hoarse voice reaches her ears.

She hums by fear of her ward finding out she was about to cry. Kamui prefers to be looked on with fear than with pity.

"Can I sleep with you please?" He whispers rubbing his eyes.

"Bad dream?" The knight mutters, her back still facing the albino, glad that she didn't stuttered.

Kotai hums with a slow nod. It is a lie, he does not dream or he just does not remember them, but what he is sure about is that he loves his guardian. Not romantically, mind you, but like a sibling, he is only eight after all. The albino hopes he will be able to call her 'Onee-chan' like the two black haired girls he saw playing with Maiko this evening.

But when he saw the face she made after scaring everyone, he knew he had said something wrong. Because he is eight does not mean he is stupid, he just does not understand some things, but he know that it was mean to tell Kamui, the first person to take care of him, that she was scary.

She is like a wyvern, aggressive and scary on the outside but very nice in the inside. Yes, sometimes they are scary, put they are also very protective, maybe Miss Emiya was a wyvern in her past life?

His thoughts were interrupted when the blonde knight agrees. "I guess you can, just don't make a fuss."

The young boi lays down on the futon with her back facing him. "Good night."

"Yeah." Is the only answer Kotai gets from Kamui.

...

"Miss Emiya?"

The knight groans at the query. "What?" She looks at the albino from over her shoulder.

"I am sorry." He apologies, playing with the blanket.

When he finally builds enough courage to look at his guardian, he only sees concern on her face. "What?" She repeats like a broken record.

He follows her example. "I am sorry."

She lays on her back with the egg resting on her belly to ease their conversation. "Why would you be?"
She asks, still concerned.

Kotai takes a deep breath before answering. "You are scary." She sigh as she looks away. "But I am not scared of you." The knight turns back to him. "And it is true that I don't know a lot of things, but I know that you are not mean." He says with a determined look.

The petite girl gently smiles at him before going back to her initial position, hugging the silver egg. "Good night Kotai."

Mission accomplished for the albino, his 'big sister' is in a good mood again. "Good night Onee-chan!"

The girl almost choked on her saliva. "A-at least use 'sama' and not 'chan'!" She whisper yells at him.

He hums quietly before leaning on her and slowly falling in the hands of Morpheus.

-The Next Morning-

Kamaji is making his way toward the home of the deceased Daiki. He needs to give the blonde girl work to let her stay in the village.

But it is calm, too calm.

Are they planning something? He has to know about it for the village sake.

The old man carefully approaches the door and put his ear against it. He hears nothing.

He opens the door slowly to see what they are doing.

Only to see the blonde knight right in front of him with a kitchen knife one centimeter away from his forehead.

"Uh?" Is all he can mutter as she lowers her hand with a tired look.

"Oh. It's just you." She sighs lazily. "I was having a nice dream for once." Kamui casually tells him as if she wasn't a centimeter away from ending his life.

She lets him enter and what he sees is the young albino hugging a big silver egg. "What is that!?" He yells, waking up the poor boy from his deep sleep.

"What is what?" The knight asks from the other side of the living room.

The old man's mind has gone blank for a moment as he saw what was Kotai hugging. "What are you doing with a egg this big!"

"Well, why would that be strange?" She tilts her head with her bed hair falling over her face.

The man gazes at her with disbelief. "To which creature does this egg belongs?"

The girl closes her eyes and puts her hand under her chin. "Tell me. Which creature looks like a big chicken?" She opens her eyes while raising her eyebrow.

Wasn't he asking the questions here? He does not want to play riddles with the blonde girl. "Which one?"

She looks at him disappointed, which unnerves him more. "A wyvern."

He almost felled on his back after hearing that. "You stole a wyvern egg!" He exclaims exasperated.

The half sleeping Kotai joins the conversation with a serious face. "It is not stealing if it is from bad people."

...

"As he said" The knight nods at his word.

The old man has never seen such an odd family. "Don't encourage him!"

Kamui looks at him as if he was insane. "Why not?"

The chief decides to abandon, he is too old for that type of things. "Anyway, I came here to guide you toward you new jo..." He quickly turns around after seeing the petite girl changing into her kimono. "...ob with Mitsue"

"Mitsu-who?" She finishes to adjust her outfit as the old man looks at her with a blank look.

He sighs. "You will find out soon enough."

The girl frowns at that. "I take Kotai with me."

"You will not be able to." The chief says.

Her frown deepens. "And why is that?"

"The boy does not have the abilities to go hunting." He tries to explain.

"We are going hunting? I heard the guards talk about it and it sounded so cool! When are we going?" Kotai, now fully awake, gazes at his guardian with stars in his eyes.

"Today apparently." Kamui tells her ward.

After watching their exchange, Kamaji starts to think that everything was planned. "I just told you that he would not be able to go hunting."

"That is why I will go with him to teach him how to do so." The petite girl packs their stuff in a backpack.

The old Kamaji sighs in defeat. "Alright, but if anything goes wrong it will be your fault and you will have to face the consequences."

"Of course, as long as the cause of any incident was not your doing." A shiver goes down his spine as he nods. "Then we have our deal."

"I am ready to go!" Kotai suddenly exclaims with his mouth full of food.

The knight gives him a stern look. "Finish what is in your mouth before speaking."

"Uh uh!" He hums in agreement.

Kamui then looks at Kotai's kimono and takes off the first layer. When making the albino's outfit she thought about this kind of situation, that is why he has another kimono under the first. This one is light and soft, it is the reason why the boy uses it as his pajamas, but it also served as a sport outfit. The top part is dark blue with azure highlights, the baggy pants follows the same color code.

For the final touch, the petite girl takes out small boots from her bag. "Take these." She offers them to the young boy, who gladly accepts. "Let's go now." The knight approaches the old chief.

He passes his hand in his hair. "To the forest I guess."
