Guest/WarriorCat21 - Okay so you both are right. I forgot/missed that when writing. So um..im gonna fix that this chapter.
ShadowFox - We might see more into their past. This is the third book, but I plan to keep this story going on, and before I finish all the books of it, you'll understand more of how the Cursed ones past are and all that. Also Jadekit was a name that was submitted, all the kits names were.
DragonClan - Happy to see your still enjoying the story.
Starstablegal - Yeah, I feel like Icaruswind would've just ignored his kits if she had died. I just get that vibe from him (bad father ; somewhat good mate)
MoonSong - I had chosen Icekit and Leapingkit because of their descriptions. Before I made that chapter I had chosen out a few kits, and Icekit was one, but then like a mousebrain I completely forgot about that until it was time to name them. Lol, so yeah, that's why Leapingkit was chosen, (but I was able to somewhat get Icekit still in there).
FrostedShadowX - I chose a name from the list you submitted for the final kit that I forgot.
November, 21st, 2020.
The next morning Beepath awoke to the gentle strokes of her pelt being groomed. It was quiet, not yet had the others woken, and a ray of sunlight warmed enough of their nest to make her pelt feel hot.
Icaruswind didn't seem to notice her awake just get. Instead he focused on making sure the knots in her fur were taken out. His eye trained on nothing, but seemingly hazy, like he was thinking deeply about something.
Quietly she shifted to see his face better. Lit up by the golden light that gently settled into the nursery. She purred softly. In this light he seemed so soft, his silver pelt now even more with the flecks of gold sunlight lighting his features.
The tom seemed to have noticed her staring. As his single dull eye glanced down at her before he broke into a gentle purr. Smoothing down the fur on her cheeks with soft, quick gentle strokes of his tongue.
"Good to see you awake," he breathed, his hot breath blowing against her face, making her whiskers twitch. "Everyone's been worried."
Beepath merely nodded as she tried to raise herself to her paws. It hurt, and she felt a pain spark on her flank. Faintly she remembered the night before, if it hadn't been longer than that, and she blinked down warmly at her kittens.
They didn't almost kill me. It was.. Eyes narrowing she sighed. What had almost killed her? It felt like she was moving an old wound around, like it had been reopened after awhile.
How had she even gotten injured? She was kitting when it happened! A touch to her ears brought her back to reality. And she relaxed into her mate's side. "Can we get something to eat?" She purred softly.
Icaruswind's purr wasn't soft as hers, instead it boomed enough to fill the nursery, and rumble his entire body. "I can grab you some fish." He meowed, licking her nose before slipping out of the brambles.
Sitting down she shifted so that her lame leg stuck out. It was more comfortable to do that, and with the added scratch on her flank, she felt somewhat stuck in what positions she could sit in.
If I keep getting hurt I won't be able to even move! Beepath snorted. How many cats thought she was nothing but a troublemaker? It seemed like her entire life was nothing but that.
Before her thoughts could go negative, Icaruswind returned. A large trout clamped in his jaws, and he was pushed out the way as two more cats padded inside with him.
Dirtclaw smiled brightly. Tail waving in the air as he trotted to her side, giving her ears a playful swat with his lanky tail. Pollenkit was with him. And she tumbled forward. Eyes wide as she saw the kittens, and she purred.
"How are you and the kiddos?" Dirtclaw meowed. His tail wrapping around his paws as he leaned forward to gaze down at the kittens.
Beepath let out a soft sigh. She felt like utter crap, and was just fighting to keep her eyes open. "Better," was all she mewed.
The tom merely nodded. He leaned forward to touch his nose to her ears before stepping back. "I'm going to go hunting," he meowed, waving his tail.
Once the tom was gone it was Beepath, her adopted daughter, and litter of kittens. The young queen curled up. Shifting to leave room as she pulled the golden she-cat into the nest, grooming out her curly pelt.
Pollenkit stayed silent as she purred lowly. Stretched out as the youngest kittens snuggled up to their older sister.
*
When she awoke time had passed. That was easy to tell from the excited mewling that ringed in her ears. Uneasily she stretched out a limb, paws kneading into the hunch of her mate. The tom blinked before leaning down to lick her ear.
"Morning," was all he gruffly said before turning away.
Just 'morning'? Beepath wanted to growl. How long had she been asleep, and the silver one-eyed tom thought that just morning was fine?
Pushing past him she roughly padded in an awkward line to the fresh kill. Warmth blazed against her pelt as she walked outside. And there was loud noises that made her ears twitch - uneased and suddenly sensitive.
The kill pile looked more fuller than it had been in a while. And she paused. Mouth almost dropped as she looked down at it. Snow still covered the ground, but little green grass was popping up between the cold white powder.
A tail touched her shoulder and she bristled, only to see Shellwhisper at her side. The white she-cat was the same age as Beepath - and yet there was wisdom in her eyes, and to be honest in every stride that she took.
"You were resting for a long time," the medicine cat mewled. "It's understandable, and now you seem to be much better. Have you named the kits yet?"
Beepath sat down before she looked to her flank. It was still patched up, but less, and she was able to move it without to much pain. Although her lame leg still had a bad ache, but that was just from the cold snow seeping into her gray pelt.
"If I've really been asleep for that long than their names should have gotten out. I know Icaruswind wouldn't go around saying them - but he tells Dirtclaw everything and that loud mouth would have told the entire Clan!" Giving a moment to twitch her whiskers in amusement she sighed.
"But, if you want to make small talk than so be it. We named the kits Icekit, Jadekit and Leapingkit," she paused, ears flicking.
The long-furred medicine cat gave her a small frown. "And the last kitten?" She asked after a moment of silence.
Beepath kneaded the snow-grass. Last kitten. Had there really been a forth one? No..we only named the three.. "Last one?" She whispered.
Giving a small nod Shellwhisper shrugged. "I see. Icaruswind must've hidden him, the last kitten was close to dying, we told him to keep an eye on that one just in case."
"I would've lost another one?" The pain that hit her in the chest was to much to bare. She suddenly jumped to her paws and headed back to the nursery. There was a pit in her stomach. How could she have almost lost another one, and not even name it?
There was whispers as she padded past a group. And before she could slip into the darkness of the den someone grab her scruff. "What's wrong, baby?" Icaruswind's gruff growl broke the ringing in her ears.
"How could you let me forget him?" She hissed. Green eyes barely focusing as the ground blurred. Teeth clinched together as she struggled to keep her entire body from shaking.
Icaruswind took a moment before he sighed and touch her ears with his nose. Eye closed as he murmured softly, "I knew that he could die. If we named him and that happened..you already been through enough. I wasn't going to put that on your shoulders."
The large tom pulled her closer to him. And he sat there, murmuring soft words as he stroke her back with his tail. Once the warmth of the beating sun and her mate's body heat got to much to bare she broke from the embrace.
Watching, he didn't stop her from moving, and instead nudged her along. Inside he followed her to their nest and prodded a paw at the little tom. He was mostly a brown tabby, although the tabby stripes were hard to see, and his paws were silver, along with him having black ears.
"Name him," was all Icaruswind growled before he curled into the nest with her.
Beepath couldn't think up of a good name. Everything that flooded her mind kept going to nothing. She wanted something to remember him by, just..just in case. Then it hit her before she settled comfortably with it.
"Weatherkit," she meowed, purring softly as she gave the kitten a few rough licks. It stirred and mewled before latching onto her stomach.
Already grooming out her pelt Icaruswind paused. He stared down the kit before nodding. He didn't ask why, instead he just rested his large head onto her shoulder and relaxed.
Weatherkit. The weather was always changing, growing strong, weak, hot, to cold, from the still chillness of leafbare to hurricanes that followed newleaf. She hoped that this kit would follow in suit - from being weak to strong, and if not. At least he has a name now.
I'm so sorry that that this took forever to get out. I had a hard time writing this chapter, and ended up forcing myself to write it. Hopefully it doesn't turn out to badly, and you all are fine with this before I get back onto my usual fast updating.
I would like to leave a little note though. The past few months, mainly this past one, I've had some struggle with my mental health. It's a thing that I've delt with my entire life, from the age of seven and such.
My family doesn't really listen to me whenever I try to get help from them. So dealing with this has gotten to a point where its energy draining, so if the next chapter gets out in another month or so, than this is why. I didn't want to leave y'all on open or questions this entire time, so here's the brief explanation of things.
