Chapter 12

It's been two weeks since Callie and I talked. She's still been trying to call me to reach out, but I'm still not ready. I'm still dealing with the mixed emotions about everything. I know she wants to help, and be a part the baby's life, but in all honesty, I don't need her help. Not matter how much she tries, nothing is going to change with what happened between us that. She really turned life upside down. She took my virginity from me and that same night, she got me pregnant.

"Hey, what you doing out here by yourself?" Teddy asks me, flipping on the light to the kitchen.

"Just thinking is all. Why you up so early?"

"I could ask you the same question. Do you want to talk about it?"

"About what?"

"Whatever it is you're thinking about?"

"No. I don't want to talk. I'm tired of talking about it. I'm tired of thinking about it."

"Ok, well do you want to talk about what happened between you and Callie two weeks ago?" she asks, making her way over to the coffee pot.

I let out a groan. "No, for the last time, I don't want to talk about it."

After grabbing herself a cup of coffee, Teddy came and joined me at the table. I tried to grabbed her cup to take a drink, but she snagged it from me before I got the chance.

"No Coffee. You heard what Dr. Capshaw said at your last appointment. Caffeine is not good for the baby."

"Whatever, I will just go grab my own cup then." Just as I stood up, Teddy grabbed my arm.

"Arizona, please. Just talk to me. Stop shutting me out. You know you can talk to me. I'm right here. If it helps, we could go for a drive so you can let everything out without Tim around"

"I don't want to talk about it. Not to anyone. Not to you, not to Tim, and especially not Callie."

"Arizona." she says letting out a sigh. "Everything is going to be just fine. I promise."

"How can you promise me that?" I ask her, my voice breaking. "Nothing is ever going to be the same anymore."

"You say that now, sweetie. but you know deep down, you will come around."

"What makes you so sure?" I say, wiping the tears that were threatening to fall.

She places her hand on my arm and says, "Because, you have done it before. That's how I can be so sure."

"What do you mean? I have done it before?"

"Remember that night, last April, when you got the phone call about your parents car accident? Then finding out that they didn't make it?"

"Yeah? So what?"

"After you received the most disturbing news, you walked around here for weeks, just the way you have been doing the last 71/2 months. Your attitude flying out here and there, shutting everyone out who tried helping you, throwing things when you got mad, those things that you are doing now. As the months progressed, you quickly started becoming yourself again. Slowly, but you managed to get yourself back to that perky little 17 year old you were before anything of it ever happened. By the time you were leaving for college, that's when I started to notice you were finally getting back to the Arizona Robbins that I had become friends with. That's how I can be so sure of myself. You will get there again, Arizona. Just give it time. It may take a few months, it may take a year, but I know you will get back to your perky old self again. I just know it."

I looked at Teddy and gave her a shy smile. "Thanks, Teds." I leaned over and wrapped my arms around my best friend.

"Anytime. Like I said, I'm always here. I'm not going any where. I promise."

"I know." I whispered.

"Don't get angry at me, but Callie called me yesterday."

"What did she want? and why would she call you?"

"Well she called me because you have been dodging her calls and texts again. She just wants to talk. and be there for you."

"I can't, Teddy."

"Yes you can. Arizona, in less than 10 weeks, you're going to have a baby. I know you feel like you can do it by yourself, but why? Callie is willing to do anything to help you. Maybe it's time you let her help her. I mean after all, it's her kid too, ya know? She wants to take full responsibility for her actions."

Deep down, I know that she's right. She's right about everything.

"I'll think about it."

"I'll take what I can get." Teddy says laughing. "Come here, give me another hug." I leaned over again to give my best friend a hug. "You should go back to bed and get some more sleep."

She's right. After that talk we had, I suddenly felt tired again.

I sat on my bed, debating on whether or not I should call Callie. After mine and Teddy's little talk we had in the kitchen five hours ago really got me thinking. Thinking about how unfair I have been to not let Callie be apart of her kids life. Constantly shutting her down by ignoring every call and text she has tempted to make.

I can't do this. I tell myself, throwing my phone back on the bed. I just let out an iritating sigh, then picked my phone back up and dialed Callie's number.

"Hello?" The voice on the other end says.

"Callie?"

"Arizona?"

"Yeah, it's me." I say.

"Are you ok? Is something wrong with you or the baby?" I can tell in her voice how concerned she was.

"No, everything is fine. I just wanted to call and see if you wanted to meet so we could talk."

"Of course. When and where would you like to meet?"

"How about the coffee shop on 10th? Let's say, ten minutes maybe?"

"I'll see you there."She says to me, "Oh and Arizona?"

"Yeah Callie?"

"Thank you for calling."

"Yeah, sure." I say to her. "I'll see you in a few. Bye."

Callie was already in the coffee shop when I walked in. She stood up when she saw me making my way to her.

"Hey." She greets with a small smile. "You made it."

"Yeah, of course I did. Why wouldn't I? I say a little too harsh. I saw her smile turn into a frown. "Sorry, I didn't mean to say it the way it came out."

"It's ok. Would you like to sit?"

"Sure." I say pulling a chair out so I could sit. There was a awkward silence for a few seconds.

"So, what did you want to talk to me about?"

""Wow, you don't waste any time. Do you? I mean of course not, you didn't waste anytime getting me into bed with you."

Callie's eyes went wide.

"Sorry, that was a little uncalled for."

"Yeah, right. Let's try a different conversation starter, shall be."

"Sure. I guess." I say rolling my eyes.

"Anyway...Ummm..let's start with on how you been doing." she asks, being the first to speak.

"I' could be better, I guess."

"All you can do is just take it one day at a time?"

"Yeah. I guess." I say quietly. Hey..umm.." before I could my sentence out, she cuts in.

"How's the baby?"

"Good. Won't leave my ribs alone, but baby's doing good." I say nervously.

She let out a chuckle. We just stare at each other for a few minutes before the lady came from behind the counter to take our order.

"What can I get for you two today?" She asked Callie and I.

"I..Um..I'll have a regular coffee with milk and sugar please." I say to her.

"Ok, and for you?" Turning to Callie.

"I will have the same, but minus the sugar please."

"Alright, I will bring that right out." She tells us, leaving our table.

"Thank you." I whisper. I turn to look at Callie. "What?"

"Nothing. You..umm..not hungry?"

"No. I ate just before I came." I tell her.

"Oh ok." She gives me another weird look.

"Why are you looking at me like that."

"I was just uh..wondering..."

"Wondering what..?" I snarked.

She cleared her throat and tried again.."I was just wondering why you would be ordering coffee instead of something a little more healthier."

"Who are you? My mother?" I snipped.

"No..I'm not your mother, but I am that baby's mother. The baby you are carrying." she says pointing to my bump.

I just rolled my eyes at her.
"Listen Callie, it's my body. A coffee or two a day isn't going to hurt my...Bab.."

"Our baby." She cuts in. "That's our baby, Arizona. Not just yours, ours."

"Whatever."

"Is this why you called me? To talk to me the way you are talking to me right now? If it is, I'll just go. I'm just trying to be civil with you. and the way you're talking to me, it's making it very hard."

"I'm sorry." I tell her. "I can't help it sometimes, Ok."

"Yeah, fine. Ok, well you called me to meet you, so what did you want to talk to me about?"

"I just called because I wanted to apologize for shutting you out everytime you tried to call or text. I haven't been...fair to you."

"Honestly, no you haven't. I had a really great time with you that nig..."

"Oh I'm sure you did." I cut in.

"You know what, forget it ok. I'm going to go. Call me when you decide to stop making snark remarks at me." She stood up to leave.

"Wait Callie, don't..don't go. Again, I'm sorry. Can you sit back down please?" I ask, motioning for her back to her seat.

"One condition."

"What?" I sighed.

"What the snark remarks."

"ok."

She sat back down in her seat. A few minutes later, the Brista Lady brought our coffees out to us.

"Here ya go. Enjoy ladies."

"Thank you." We say in unison.

We sat in silence for a few minutes, then I heard her ask. "When is your next Drs. Appt?"

"Friday. As in tomorrow Friday." I tell her.

"Do you think I could come too?"

"Yeah, if you want." I say with a shy smile.
"Really?" She asked, all surprised.

"Yeah, it's your baby too."

Callie and I spent the next couple hours just talking about the baby. I started to get tired by the last few minutes. As we walked out of the coffee shop, she looked around.

"Where's your car?"

"It's at home. I walked down here. I needed the fresh air. Plus I needed the exercise." I laugh. "I felt like I have gained 20 pounds in the last two weeks."

She let out a little laugh. "So, would you like a ride? I could take you home if you want?" After the words flew from her mouth, she realized how wrong that came out. "Oh, god. I didn't mean that the way it come out." I reached out and grabbed her arm.

"Callie, it's ok. I knew what you meant."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. It's fine. and I'd love a ride home." I tilted my head and smiled.
