New Year's Special: New Years Day at CHB
"I really wish I could refuse." said James sadly, scrunching up his nose. They were waiting in a queue, of all horrible things, and even worse- to dump perfectly good food into the fire at the heart of the camp. Sirius nodded along with him, staring longingly at his plate.
Lily, however, simply shrugged. "I think its cool! I mean, the foods we sacrifice will be delivered to the gods above! Isn't that interesting?"
Ah, Lily. He nodded along with her, acting like he was listening, when in truth, he was looking around. His best mate Sirius seemed incredibly bored to be here, and Remus was desperately trying to stop him from just running off and cutting in front of others.
James agreed with Sirius. He would have just started digging in his food if it hadn't been Lily (and Moony, but he really only listened to her) dragging them here. He fingered a snitch he had snuck in his pocket, wishing for this horrible line to be over soon.
Their demigod friends were already settled down, but they weren't eating, patiently waiting for them. Apparently, being seniors at this camp meant they also had earlier sacrificing privileges. He wished he'd joined them, and left exploring for after supper work.
"... seuss, the giant statue of A- James, are you listening?" He focused back at reality, and could see an angry Lily in front of him. She seemed to be in her angriest state, yet his heart was beating even at this moment. Her red hair was blinding, her emerald eyes shining brighter than diamonds-
Focus, James. He scolded himself.
"Of, of course! Yeah, statue! The giant statue and whatnot. Please, continue."
"Then what was the name of it, James? I just said it." She raised an eyebrow. He gulped.
"Uh... The Giant?"
"JAMES..."
"Here, James! Oh no, I believe someone's calling me. I have to go!" James darted out of the line, trying to escape Lily's enraged yells.
"We're escaping? FINALLY! Oy, Prongs, wait for me! Come on, Evans, Moony!" Padfoot escaped after him.
"JAMES!"
"SIRIUS!"
The two ran into the fields, laughing at the sound of their dear friends Lily and Remus screaming.
The Ravenclaw group ahead of them, who had been in a perfect line, sighed and shook their head.
"Gryffindors." said Sofija, as if that explained everything.
"I still can't quite grasp the fact that they are from the same school as ours, let alone the same country." William said, pushing his glasses up. Hailey shrugged, and Bruce nodded in agreement.
"Well, they seemed to have fit right in." said Amy, pointing to the group of Hermes kids joining the Gryffindors, wand against swords. Of course, no one was trying to hurt the other on purpose. The duo cast (mostly) harmless jinxes while the demigods simply deflected them with their respective celestial bronze weapons.
The Ravenclaw folks shook their head and turned away.
.
Ring ring! Chiron the centaur, who also happened to run the place, tapped his goblet with a small knife. The metal clashes rang out quite clearly. At once, the busy tables all fell silent. Smiling, the old centaur set his cup down.
"Another year gone by without dying! Congratulations to all of you." He said brightly, and the demigods grinned and cheered, while the wizards and witches stood awkwardly, exchanging glances with each other. Were New Years celebratory speeches supposed to be like this? They just didn't know. Yet, the demigods seemed to be enjoying it, so they politely clapped along.
"And this year, we have not one, but two special guests with us! The campers of Camp Jupiter will be with us shortly, and we have the wizards and witches from the school Hogwarts of Hecate's realm." Cheers and friendly screams rang out and applause could be heard everywhere. The group smiled brightly.
"They adore us." James whispered to Sirius.
"Are you sure its not me and us?" he sniggered, and James hit him on the head.
"Boys, behave!" hissed Lily before they could get into a fight.
But she was a second too late. They grinned and pulled out their wands as the Hecate cabin watched with interest and Hermes cabin started chanting "FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!" with two identical looking siblings at the start of the chant.
Percy laughed while Annabeth looked amused. The rest of their friends-from the left, she believed their names were Jason, Piper, Leo, and Calypso-looked at the commotion with interest. The one she remembered as Leo jumped on the benches and whooped at the top of his lungs. The caramel haired girl, Calypso, tried to get him to sit down without much luck.
Lily really did feel her. They were both fighting for a hopeless cause.
Nevertheless, she had to try. She took a deep breath.
"JAMES POTTERRRRRR!"
.
Hailey smiled at the stars above. They were sitting around a now put out bonfire. Amy and Annabeth were immersed in a discussion about astronomy, while William was going over American history as muggles-no, mortals knew it and the demigod side to it with one of Annabeth's siblings. Bruce was talking with the Hecate cabin kids, while Sofija jotted down notes on botany with the Demeter kids. She listened on the astronomy lectures Amy and Annabeth were giving, staring at the glittering patterns.
"One minute left!" Shouted a Pink haired girl, who had introduced herself as Lavinia. The Roman demigods clapped, cheered and laughed as she did. The two praetors, Frank and Hazel, were sitting next to each other, in each other's arms as they clapped along to the short tap dance performance Lavinia presented. Percy laughed next with them, with one hand on the shoulder of the blonde demigod, Jason, as Jason put his hand on Percy's. Piper and Leo were nearby, along with Calypso, giddily laughing together with the crowd.
It sure was a sight to see. They enjoyed the moment until the crowd suddenly fell silent, and Lavinia stopped tap dancing. Then lanterns were put out everywhere. All her Ravenclaw friends huddled next to her, staring at the night sky with sparking interest. All was silent until-
PEW!
"HAPPY NEW YEAR!" cries rang out from every part of the camp. Some Apollo kid blared a sound on his trumpet.
The pitch black night sky up above burst into a rainbow of colors. Starbursts of red and gold, orange, purple, and finally bronze and blue dotted the sky. The moon shone bright still under the beautiful mixture. The once peaceful canvas had turned into a colorful explosion. Then, as she marveled at the sky, Sofija stuck out her hand for her to grasp. Hailey took it gladly, grinning.
Another great year had passed. With her friends, old and new, all by her side, there was nothing to fear.
She looked up into the stars, never once looking back.

IT'S 2021 EVERYONE! HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU AWESOME READERS!
2021 is finally here! Like Christmas, I prepared a short special for you guys. Finally, I get to put OCs in to make the story more interesting! Yay! Did anyone notice a little something I did with the specials? Hint: look at the last lines of the Christmas special and this one carefully. Notice anything familiar? Try guessing, and if you get it right, hmm... I'll think about it, but the best I have right now is me putting one of your OCs in the original hoax plot. Sound okay? I don't know. I'll try to think of something, at least.
2020 was a real disappointment, with the COVID-19 taking a heavy toll from all of us. But hey, its a new year, the time to make new wishes. What are your new year's resolutions? I've made mine, but I'm not sure I'll be able to keep them :/
I hope 2021 will be a better year for all of you out there, all around the globe. Your constant support has helped me through the slumps I faced throughout the chapters I wrote. So thank you. And just to say, I love you all so much :)
Spend New Year's day safely and happily with your loved ones. I'll see you again real soon, with the chapter everyone has been anticipating for: The lessons at Hogwarts! Let's see how well our favorite couple does, shall we?
Again, happy New Year and I hope all your wishes come true!
-Claire-
