Foxpaw quietly slipped out of his nest, making sure not to disturb Cinderpaw. Padding outside, he saw that it was almost moonhigh. All his Clanmates were asleep.

He made his way to the camp entrance.

A little shadow of doubt gathered in the back of his mind as he exited the camp.

What if Spotpaw's tricking me? What if she's going to attack me?

He shook his head. I hope she doesn't do that. I'm bigger and stronger than her, and I don't think she'd be dumb enough to attack me.

He quickly and quietly ran through the forest, only stopping once to make sure he was heading in the right direction.

Foxpaw got to the border and waited, panting.

After a few minutes, Spotpaw appeared, her tortoiseshell and white pelt practically glowing in the moonlight. She was holding a mouse in her mouth.

As she padded closer, the smell wafted over him.

It smells so good.

Spotpaw awkwardly slid the mouse across the border.

Foxpaw stared, astonished. Then he looked up at the RiverClan she-cat. "What?"

"It's for you, flea-brain."

Her tone wasn't mean; on the contrary, it was almost kind.

Foxpaw stared at her in confusion. "Why?"

She looked down shyly. "Well, you looked hungry…" She trailed off.

Foxpaw blinked. He wasn't used to people doing favors for him. He looked at the other apprentice again.

Then a strange burst of anger suddenly took hold of him. "I don't need your prey! I'm doing fine, and I can catch my own prey. RiverClan's always meddling in our business! "

Spotpaw's eyes widened in hurt, and for a second, she just stood there staring at him in disbelief.

Then she turned and raced away. Before he could even take back his words, they were snatched away and gone as quick as she was.

"Wait, come back…"

It was too late. She had already ran out of sight.

Foxpaw looked down at the mouse. His anger had completely faded.

She was being nice. She brought you prey because she thought you could use it.

He bent down and sniffed it. It would've made him feel better if it was poisoned.

Then I could've yowled at her for a reason.

It just smelled of the RiverClan she-cat. Foxpaw looked up again, hoping she had come back. He wanted to apologize.

But there was no trace of Spotpaw. He looked back down at the mouse. With a sigh, he picked it up and padded back to camp, his tail drooping.

Guilt flooded over him as the delicious smell of mouse flooded his senses, although he quickly shook it off.

I'm a ShadowClan cat. I can't care less about that stupid RiverClan apprentice's feelings.

As he neared camp, the brambles surrounding the entrance shook, and Cinderpaw raced out.

When she saw Foxpaw, her eyes lit up with relief. "Oh, thank StarClan! You scared me! I woke up, and you weren't there."

Foxpaw shrugged apologetically. "I couldn't sleep, so I went for some nighttime hunting."

Cinderpaw's eyes widened as she saw his mouse. "Wow! Emberbreeze will have a real meal for the first time in a while."

Foxpaw felt even more ashamed at the thought that Spotpaw's prey would feed his previous mentor well.

He forced down more guilt and tried to act proud of the catch. His catch, apparently.

Cinderpaw paused near the entrance of camp, a quizzical look in her eyes. "Foxpaw? Are you coming?"

The ginger tom sighed. "Go back to sleep, Cinderpaw. I'm not tired, so I'll hunt a bit more." And he padded into the forest, lost in his own thoughts.

Author's Note:

Just wanted to spend some time on the reviews so far.

DappledleafTheBootiful: Thank you so much! I've always tried to write a little like the Erins, and it means a lot to know that at least one other person thinks I write a bit like them :)

MoonStar of ShadowClan: Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you like it so far :D
