Series 3, Episode 6, pt 2 ~ House of Questions

Patricia knew she was acting like a child as KT came rushing into the room mumbling excuses about her and Eddie. The gothic girl put headphones on her head and didn't lift them off until their bedroom door shut with KT leaving to take an evening shower. Patricia turned round to see Joy sending her a frown and rolled her eyes. Yes, she was acting out a little, but she couldn't control her jealousy. Her and Eddie's big break up had been one huge misunderstanding, but Patricia wasn't going to talk to him and tell him that. She knew she was being stubborn, but it was who she was. She wasn't going to change that for anyone... especially a boy.

"I don't even care if she is with Eddie," Patricia argued slightly. "in fact, I hope they are, and they can annoy each other to death."

Mara wandered in and glanced to the ranting Patricia before looking to Joy, "Eddie and KT?" Joy nodded her head slightly. Mara sat on Joy's bed and looked to Patricia with a slight frown. "but I thought Eddie was on a date with Camilla?"

Patricia let out a laugh as did Joy, "as if!"

"Camilla would never, she's a one guy kind of girl, and we know her heart is taken." Joy trailed off as Patricia shot her a look.

Mara saw the glance but pretended she didn't, the last thing she needed to be reminded off was Camilla's feelings for her boyfriend.

"Anyway, what's going on you and Rutter number two?" Patricia quickly moved the subject to something safe, epically with Mara in the room.

"Have you asked him out yet?" Mara asked excitedly turning to face Joy.

Joy blushed slightly at the questions glancing at her friends, "Anyone for hot chocolate?" she got to her feet and straightened her skirt before turning to see their bemused faces and let out a sigh, "look, I will. I just need to find the right moment, that's all."

"What?" Patricia scoffed, "sometime next century?"

Joy pulled a face at her friend, "you're not even supposed to be here. You're scheduled Fabian duty remember?"

"Yeah, Yeah, whatever..." Patricia rolled her eyes at her friend, the last thing Fabian needed was a babysitter anyone knew that.

Joy turned to Mara and nodded her head to the door. Mara getting to her feet and following Joy out.

Patricia waited until the door softly shut before she jumped from the bed and raced over to KT's side of the room. Going straight to her bedside table, knowing that is where the girl kept her most coveted secrets. The first thing she found was a leather-bound diary she'd seen the girl write in every night, the girl opening it up and glancing over it.

"Eddie seems cool and Funny," she read aloud bitterly, "but Camilla is the better of that duo that is for sure. She is far funnier. Joy is pretty awesome and –" Patricia frowned at the book before snapping it shut, "okay the award from the most boring diary ever goes to..." with a sigh, she jammed it back into the drawer only to hear something metal clink and her curiosity got the better of her. Pulling open the drawer and lifting out a long elegant key with a crescent moon on top. Her eyes widening as she recognised the symbol.

Patricia hurriedly pushed the drawer shut before she rushed from the room.

Fabian looked up from his work as he heard a hammered knocking on his bedroom door, and before he had even had a chance to hide his working, Patricia came barging in. "Patricia we spoke about knocking –"

"Look!" Patricia demanded holding the key up for the boy to see ignoring his babbles. "I found it in KT's drawer."

Fabian grabbed the key off her to examine it even closer his eyes widening also.

"Remind you of anything?"

"it's similar..." he mumbled looking over the key before diving for the clue Alfie had found. "it's the same one that appears on the message that came with the bracelet."

"But wouldn't that mean..." Patricia trailed off not wanting to think the worst of the new girl truly. Fabian held up the key to the paper. The duo seeing the symbols line up perfectly.

"KT's working with Victor..." Fabian whispered in horror.

The next morning was the usual lively affair when it came to breakfast in Anubis house, or it was for Eddie, KT, Camilla, Mara and Joy. For some reason, the other's were very quiet.

Alfie waited until Camilla had rushed from the room cursing in Arabic after Fabian mentioned their geography homework before he pounced on Patricia for answered. "so, where's the key now, then?"

"I put it back; she didn't even notice," Patricia told the boy.

"KT can't be working with Victor, not that I believe Victor is bad. Camilla was right about him last year." Amber told them all. She got looks back from the people around the table. "she is friends with Camilla; she just can't be bad. Talking about Cam... why can't we tell her again? You know we don't have secrets." this last question was directed at Fabian who bit his lip sending Amber an apologetic look.

"Cam's dealing with enough. Befriending KT is a small source of joy for her; let's not ruin it until we know all the facts." Fabian told Amber softly who frowned but understood what he meant. The girl was having a tough year, let's not make it any worse by claiming her new friend was evil.

"KT only has two friends Amber," Patricia pointed out to the group.

"The Osirian and The Protector or future mage, whatever you wanna call our Cam..." Fabian added with a nod of his head. "What if she is a mole?"

Amber looked between them all confused, before mouthing to Patricia 'mole?' before miming being a mole.

Patricia let out a laugh, "a different kind of mole, Amber."

Fabian smiled and looked to Patricia and Alfie, "Cam isnt daft though she wouldn't let a mole into her friendship group, maybe KT just really likes those two?"

"or maybe she's evil!" Alfie teased jumping into Camilla's empty seat and laughing evilly at Fabian who picked up the croissant Camilla had left on her plate and stuffed it into Alfie's mouth to shut up him before turning to face the other two girls. "now, look. Whatever is going on, it is serious. I'll try talk to Eddie see what he knows."

Amber let out a sigh, "I guess I'll talk to Camilla, but I don't think she'd let someone evil near her."

KT had met up with Camilla as the girl rushed from her room, stuffing what looked like their geography essay on the formation of Glaciers into her bag. The two girls chatted away as they wandered down the stairs only stopping as Eddie called their names.

The sound of heels on the stairs where what got Eddie's attention, there were only two girls in the house who wore heels, and he knew Amber was still in breakfast so that only left Camilla. He turned to see the small twin and KT as they chatted together. "Hey, Cam, KT." He rushed over to the pair as they reached the bottom of the stairs. "okay, look, um...before we go to anyone, I say we find out more about the man in the tank." Eddie saw Camilla nod her head in agreement, but KT seemed unsure.

"KT trust me, more information is better in this situation. Camilla told the girl, who looked like she was going to argue.

"But guys this is my mission!" KT hissed at them.

Camilla frowned slightly, "I think you'll find it's our mission," the girl pointed between herself and KT, "your grandpa said to find me."

KT rolled her eyes, "fine... our mission," she looked to Eddie, "that means you can't tell any of the others," she looked to Camilla, "not even Fabian." She watched the small girl's expression falter. She had purposefully not told Fabian anything until this year, and she was hoping the whole Nina thing would be a one-time deal. The fact she was being asked once again to keep something from her brother caused a little distress to the girl.

Just then Fabian's voice rang out loud and clear, "Eddie! Just the man..." they all turned to see him smiling in the doorway of the dining room, Amber popping out beside him and giving Camilla a beaming smile which she was happy to return. KT said she couldn't tell Fabian; she didn't technically say she couldn't tell her sister. Technically.

Fabian looked at the odd trio before focusing back on Eddie, "could I speak to you, please?"

"Yeah," Eddie nodded before glancing to the girls. KT crossing her arms looking unimpressed in the male twin's direction.

"Amber, shall we walk to school together?" Camilla asked her blonde friend who nodded her head.

"I'll go grab my bag and blazer off Alfie." Amber smiled dashing back into the kitchen.

"I'm going to go," KT looked between the two with a warning look before heading to the front door. Fabian taking that as his opportunity to approach the Protector/Osirian pair.

"so, what's up?" Eddie asked instantly knowing Fabian didn't mind much about his sister listening in. mainly because there wasn't much either boy could really do to stop her from doing so.

"so it's probably nothing," Fabian started clearly carefully thinking over his words, "but, uh – don't mention Sibuna to KT." He vaguely told them both.

Camilla frowned slightly as Eddie scoffed and shrugged, "yeah, as if."

"and maybe quit talking about all the Osirian stuff too..."

This was what caused alarm bells to start ringing in Camilla's head. There was something big her brother had found out that he wasn't sharing with her. Something that had them on edge.

"Yeah... of course!" Eddie agreed, glancing to Camilla surprised the girl was staying quiet.

"Cool!" Fabian nodded with a smile on his face glancing to his sister also causing Camilla to smile back, though her smile didn't reach her eyes as she watched her brother critically. Apparently, her keeping the Nina thing from him had caused him to be okay with keeping secrets from her. She just wasn't sure how to properly digest that new development between them.

"Cool..." Eddie replied before Fabian turned and hurried back to the boy's bedroom to collect his bag. The moment the door shut, Eddie turned to Camilla, "What was that about?"

"Eddie I'm so glad for once I have someone who knows as much as I do," Camilla mumbled suspiciously until the blonde came from the dining room with a grin. "well for now." She whispered to her American friend before grinning at Amber.

"We have so much to discuss!" Amber told her best friend as she looped arms with Camilla, and at a shocking speed for the pair of them in heels, they were out the door.

Amber waited until the front door shut behind them and the two girls had rounded the house before she lowered her voice and glance to Camilla, "I have to tell you something, but you can't tell anyone you know."

"I have stuff to tell you under the same promise."

Amber looked at Camilla for a moment before nodding, crossing her fingers on her free hand before twisting it in the air twice and said sincerely, "Well then I Sibuna Sister Swear to not spill any sacred secrets shared between myself and Camilla-Anne Rutter from now until our last breath on this earth."

Camilla grinned before copying the girl's action, "I Sibuna Sister Swear to not spill any sacred secrets shared between myself and Amber Jessica Millington, from now until our last breath on this earth."

Between their joint finger, a small pint glow formed linking the pair causing their smiles to widen instantly. Their secrets were safe, and they didn't need to hide anything from the other, just the way they liked it.

"You first Amber, you look like your about to burst." Camilla teased as the light faded and the pair let their arms drop back to their sides.

"Well first off. Your brother is simply impossible!"

"What am I meant to do to help?" Camilla laughed slightly as her response was given a look by the blonde, "he's been impossible since he was born if anything it has grown worse with the mystery-solving and age."

Amber let out a small giggle at the girl's sarcastic comment shaking her head slightly. "anyways, we found this key, and it matches with some symbols on the clue."

Camilla let out a small groan, "by any chance was this key found by Patricia in KT's belongings?"

Amber's eyes widened as she looked to her friend, "wow your good."

"so now they think KT is the bad guy..." Camilla murmured slightly biting her lip as she tried to process the information.

"They do, I don't."

It was Camilla's turn to look to her friend in amazement.

"you trust KT, so I trust her." The girl said simply squeezing Camilla's arm. "though I might have to put an act on for the others..." Amber trailed off thinking slightly before shaking her head. "what about you? What were you three whispering about this morning?"

Camilla took a deep sigh before launching into a longwinded ramble about them sneaking into Miss Denby's lodgings and finding a tank man. Getting the expected response from Amber who looked as equally horrified as she did curiously. A look that only came with a long term Sibuna member.

The first class of the day was in chaos as the two girls walk in—a silent promise between the pair as they elegantly wandered over to their seats.

"You and me Cam," Amber told the girl holding out her pinky finger.

"me and you, Ambs." Camilla silently agreed wrapping her pinky around the girls before she slipped into her seat next to Eddie and Amber focused her attention on the hunched over Fabian who had a clue out and was scribbling in his notebook in the weird code the twins used to each other.

Miss Denby walked into the room, and from Camilla's right, KT started glaring at the woman. The girl rolling her eyes slightly, was no one in her life going to be subtle about anything sneaky they do?

"Settle down, everyone!" the teacher called out good-naturedly as she put her bag on the desk at the front of the room and waited for the students to get to their seats and silence to descend upon the room. "I'm sure you'll all be glad to hear that this term I'm introducing a brand-new subject."

Camilla wasn't the only one who's head fell into her hands at the prospect of a new subject, Alfie smiling in amusement as Jerome copied the girl in front of him's action's almost immediately and two synchronised with one another.

"Business Studies!" Miss Denby explained simply as she wrote the topic onto the board causing a groan to leave Camilla's mouth (the last thing she needed was to be taught how to run a business it might give her parents ideas about Rutter Archaeology and Discovery) as Jerome looked up excitedly.

"Business Studies?" Jerome repeated looking to the teacher, "you mean you're actually going to be teaching us how to make money?"

"indirectly, yes." Miss Denby replied to the boy in an amused tone.

"I love this woman!" Jerome hissed to Alfie in excitement, as Fabian looked back at his sister sharing the girl's uneasy look. The pair really didn't want to learn how to run a company; it would encourage their parents more about them taking over one day. They wanted to make their own mark on the world.

"And for our first business project," Miss Denby spoke, causing Fabian to look back to the front of the class, "I want you all to think about snack foods."

"Oh, I am so getting an 'A'!" it was Alfie's turn to get excited, causing a round of laughter from the class at his comment.

"you can work alone, or in pairs." Denby told them all, "your task is to design and market a brand-new snack. You will find the task outlines in these handouts, and on the link on the board." The woman picked up a pile of papers from her bag and started to go around the class with the handouts.

Camilla turned and looked between Eddie and KT who she sat between who was looking at the girl nervously. Camilla rolling her eyes, "I'll go solo guys; it's cool." The pair relaxing somewhat before giving each other a nod of their heads.

"your ideas will be graded." Miss Denby spoke up, causing the whispers that had erupted as people tried to find partners to die down instantly, "but you'll also be judged by a global food Manufacturer. None other than Amber's dad, Mr Millington."

"Daddy's coming here?" Amber asked, looking confused at the teacher. She hadn't been told anything about this.

"He didn't tell you?" Willow questioned from beside the girl.

"Willow," Amber looked to the strawberry blonde, "does this look like a face that's been told anything?" Willow shook her head instantly eyes widening. Clearly, Camilla's friendship with the blonde had rubbed off not on Camilla's fashion sense now but in Amber's sarcasm. "besides how to moisturise correctly." Amber added softly.

"Either way..." Miss Denby spoke up looking to Amber confused by the outburst but pushing ahead, "he'll be here at the end of next week, and he's donating a brand-new laptop to whoever wins."

As the students all whispered about the epic prize on hand KT used that as her opportunity to lean to her friends. "we have to do something about her." She insisted causing Eddie and Camilla to share a look. There was a way to approach everything here and just murdering Denby wasn't the way to go. The woman still held so many answered they needed.

"What? Tell everyone she has a zombie for a boyfriend?" Eddie asked the girl leaning over Camilla.

"Uh, and you Eddie, Camilla, KT..." the teacher's voice caused the three to turn to look to the teacher, "I trust you three will be taking this project seriously."

Eddie smiled at the teacher, glancing to Camilla, "don't worry, you'll find we will be taking your classes very seriously from now on."

Camilla, however, was happy to smirk at the teacher, "oh and miss... I already have an idea in mind for this project. It's positively magical."

The Sibuna's in the room, plus KT and Jerome all looked at Camilla widened as they understood the meaning behind the girl's words. This project had just gotten serious if Camilla was willing to use magic.

"you two do know we have to be subtle right?" KT hissed at the pair causing Camilla to let out a snort.

"hey, subtle is my middle name." Eddie cockily informed the girl.

"he doesn't even know how to spell the word." Camilla countered as she gave the boy a sweet smile meeting his narrowed gaze.

Fabian had dragged Camilla into the study hall during their free period after the break to help him decode the clue. The girl, however, wasn't much help as her eyes where on Mara and Jerome who had settled a little way off on one of the couches discussing Denby's business project. Mara sending Camilla a forced smile as the pair sat down, Jerome's gaze lingering on the girl. Every so often he looked over at her with a look Camilla couldn't quite name but knew whatever it was Mara wouldn't be happy to see it.

Willow was floating around the room dancing like she was Luna Lovegood – Camilla was somewhat happy someone was happy in the tense atmosphere.

"how about," Mara spoke up loudly causing Jerome's eyes to rip away from Camilla's to look at the girl next to him as she spoke, "a fruit and Vegetable snack bar called The Fredgetable bar?"

Jerome and Camilla burst out laughing instantly at the girl's response, causing a thunderous look to cross Mara's face at the sound. She looked between the pair with venom.

"Oh, come on!" Jerome told the girl, trying not to delight in the fact he and Camilla were sharing a joke for the first time all term.

"it's rather stupid." Camilla agreed as she got up from where she sat next to Fabian and wandered to the pair causing Jerome to point at her and nod the pair still laughing.

"Oh right, like either of you could come up with something better," Mara demanded crossing her arms at the pair.

"you are looking at the school's foremost entrepreneur," Jerome told Mara before pointing to Camilla, "and she's Camilla-Anne Rutter." He added as if that explained everything when it came to Camilla, causing the girl to smirk slightly as Mara's eyes squinted. Not happy with that answer when it came to Camilla.

"Yeah... sure." She sarcastically told the pair causing Camilla to raise her eyebrow at the girl.

"as I said in class, I have an almost magical idea already," Camilla told her roommate simple.

"Oh, what is it?"

Camilla tutted and shook her head, "and give away my secrets to the competition, even I know that's a bad business move."

Jerome laughed at Camilla once again, causing a smile to creep onto her face. She looked between the pair, and the smile fell into a smirk as an idea formed in her head. She knew it was petty and mean, but she couldn't resist it, "if you both think you are so good at this business venture how about a little competition between the three of us?"

Mara looked interested as she turned to look at Camilla curiously, "whoever does the worst has to do a forfeit of Alfie's choosing."

Jerome turned to look at the girl eyes wide, but Mara was already speaking.

"We cant pair up with each other, but anyone else." She told them all.

"I'm okay with that." Camilla agreed.

"Guys... Relationships and friendships aren't about competing with one another..." a lofty voice came causing them to look around at Willow who was floating around behind them. "they are about harmony and mutual karma."

"who said anything about friendships," Camilla spoke looking to Mara with an eyebrow raised.

"second that opinion." Mara looked Camilla up and down with disdain.

"May the best woman win." Camilla stuck out her hand, Mara took it and shook it once. Camilla turned and wandered back to her brother, who had now been joined by Joy, with a smug smirk on her face.

Jerome looked between the pair and gulped. He needed to win this. Eddie's prediction of world war 3 might actually come true otherwise.

"What's got you so happy?" Joy asked as she watched Camilla pick up her bag.

"Nothing of importance to you," Camilla told her mysteriously, "I need to hop down to the lab... see ya."

"Bye..." Joy copied Camilla's wave as she watched the girl confidently strut from the room, the gaze of all the boys (bar Fabian) on her – well until Jerome got elbowed by an annoyed Mara that was. "do we need to be worried about Cam using magic in this business project?" Joy whispered to Fabian.

"Hmmm..." was the boy's reply clearly, not paying attention to anything in the room.

Joy shook her head clearly smitten by the boy.

"so I've been thinking, if I cant solve this," Fabian turned to Joy in a panic only registering the girl with a seconds confusion thinking it was Camilla who was next to him, not Joy but rolling with it anyway, "we'll have to give that bracelet back to Victor."

"Fabian..."

"No, he's desperate!" the boy insisted, "whatever he wants it for, he might hurt someone!"

Joy gave the boy a look and shook her head. "Our Cam would never let Victor hurt someone; we both know that." She then leant over and took the boy's notebook from him and slid it into her bag. "but I think right now, you need to take a break."

"What?"

"No arguments." Joy's tone was enough. Fabian knew he couldn't argue with her. "besides, I need a partner for this business project."

Fabian let out a deep sigh and glanced to the girl who sent him a small smile.

"Please..." she begged softly.

"Okay," Fabian gave in, knowing he'd rather do the project with someone – it was apparent Camilla was flying solo this time.

"Yeah?"

"Okay."

"Yay!"

Fabian couldn't help but grin at the girls little triumphant squeal, "you know, I'm glad we are spending more time together this year. I've missed it."

"Missed what?" Joy pushed nudging the boy playfully with her shoulder.

"you know," Fabian shrugged slightly, "just us. hanging out together." He nudged her back, causing the girl to laugh slightly. "I'm going to stop talking now..." he laughed, knowing he was getting sappy.

Joy giving him a smile which Fabian returned.

Anyone who knew the real Camilla was worried when the girl didn't show up again until just after dinner. A gleam in the girl's eye and a confident smile. Unknown to any of the other's the only thing that had taken the girl away from her simmering cauldron in the lab was the date night Victor was having with Trudy.

The girl making no effort to hide her amusement as she watched the man set up his office from the top of the stairs—the man frowning at her as he lit the candles on the table.

"How do I look, Sweetie?" Trudy's voice caused Camilla to look at the woman and gave her a wide smile.

"You look beautiful Trudy." The girl told her honestly, causing the woman to smile back at her. A small skip in her step as she made her way to the office. Knocking on the door and waiting for Victor to open it.

The man opened the door and paused slightly looking over Trudy and not saying a word causing Camilla to roll her eyes at her mentor.

"Ta-da!" Trudy said softly. "it's nothing new. I honestly can't remember the last time I had it on."

Victor glanced up at Camilla to see the girl mouth, 'compliment her'. The man let out a soft cough before saying, "you look...nice." he said before stepping to one side letting Trudy into the room, before shutting the door.

Camilla craned her neck to see, but the man went from window to window closing the blinds so the girl couldn't look in.

"Cam..."

A pouting Camilla glanced down to see Alfie looking up at her with a confused look on his face in the hallway.

"What are you-?"

Camilla glanced at the room before racing down the stairs excitedly, "Victor is on a date!"

Alfie's eyes widened in shock before his expression turned to horror. "Seriously?"

The girl nodded her head at him frantically.

Fabian duty was becoming worse than chores in Patricia's opinion. The girl letting out yet another yawn from where she sat on the arm of the couch watching Fabian scribble in his notebook. "if you're doing the project with Joy? What about me?" Patricia spoke up, trying to get Fabian to talk about anything other than the clue – it might make the time go by faster. "I can't do it on my own! I'm utterly useless with ideas."

"What about Camilla?" Fabian asked, not looking up from his notebook.

"the girl has some weird bet with Mara going on... I don't want to be in that mess."

An idea came to Fabian, and he looked up at the gothic girl with a smile, "Maybe you should do it with KT?"

"Excuse me?"

"if you're working with her," Fabian explained, "you can find out what she's doing with that key, and it might help me break this..." the boy lifted the clue paper once again frowning at it.

Patricia let out a groan, "fine..."

"thank you." Fabian mockingly whispered to the girl who shot him a forced smile before leaving the room. Passing Alfie and Camilla as they came racing into the living room.

Fabian looking at the pair as if they were mad. "Trudy..." Alfie started.

"Victor's office!" Camilla excitedly added.

"DATE!" The pair said together looking to Fabian who looked at them bemused. Putting down his notebook and lifting his guitar trying to see if music would help him think clearly.

"Victor on a date?" he asked.

The pair nodded, causing Fabian to burst out laughing.

"I don't think so."

"So what's he doing?" Alfie questioned causing an identical frown to creep onto Fabian and Camilla's faces as they looked at him. It took one look from the three before they were racing up the stairs towards Victor's office. They needed to find out what was being said – Camilla hoping that this date was a date. Not some weird way for Victor to get his bloody bracelet back. She honestly needed to talk to him about what he needed it for – the man wasn't making himself look good.
