New York City
"Come on, you sleepyhead. Time to wake up!" Alayla Jefferson banged on Kylee's door. No response. "Don't make me kick this door down." She said angrily. She got ready to kick, but the door turned out to be open. Strange.
Kylee's apartment was painted a drab color. The only colorful thing was perhaps the rainbow pride flag put up in the living room. It had been gifted from Alayla on her birthday. There had obviously been a struggle, as the chairs and tables were moved. Alayla checked the bedroom, bathrooms, and closets. No Kylee.
"Come on," Alayla groaned, and dug out her phone. She dialed Kylee's number but soon she heard buzzing from the living room. She had left her phone in the house. Weird. Alayla dialed Serena's number instead.
Miami, Florida
Serena's phone started ringing. "Yeah, Alayla, what's up?" She said. Reid turned his head a little bit.
"She's what?" Serena's heart sank. "Yeah. Okay, I'll try. Yeah. I'll let you know if I get anything."
"What happened?" Reid asked.
"I don't know...Kylee's missing."
"Kylee? That moody girl who cusses a lot?"
"Yup, that's her."
"Do you want to…"
"What, go to New York City and look for her? Reid, we're looking at one of the bloodiest murder scenes here!"
"Right, right. But I'm sure Hotch would understand."
"I'm sure Kylee will come back. She runs off quite often."
Miami PD
"This is hopeless." Morgan said, throwing up his hands in frustration. The team had been staring at the board for hours. "There's nothing to go off of!"
At that moment, Reid and Serena walked in the conference room, and Serena dumped a huge box onto the table.
"What's this?" Morgan asked.
"All the stuff at Mark Roberts' desk. He was a very secretive man." She replied, showing the silver key that Bill had given them in the elevator.
"Well, this is plenty of stuff. Now it seems we have something to go off of." Prentiss said, examining the papers.
"I don't think so. Lots of these papers just seem to be taxes and work stuff." Morgan gave the pile of papers a disappointed look.
"What about this?" Rossi held up a brown file.
"It's a lot of things. Bank records, mostly. Looks like he deposited a lot of money to a lot of different accounts." Prentiss remarked, scanning the numbers.
"What? Garcia already went through his bank history. She said nothing seemed suspicious." Serena said.
"This is a different bank account number." Once again, Reid showcased his eidetic memory.
"For business?" Rossi asked.
"No. None of the transactions here seem...business like." Serena said. "Who gives two thousand dollars on a Sunday morning for business?"
"Well, Mark Roberts sure looks fishy. Look here." Morgan pointed to something at the bottom of the box. It was a sealed envelope, with an important looking red seal.
"Wax seals? They didn't even use them back in my day." Rossi scoffed, and picked up the letter. He unstuck the wax and pulled out two pieces of paper. "Well, you were right. This letter is in code." He handed the paper to Reid who immediately started drawing weird symbols on the board.
"This one says, 'Bring it out tonight at Star Gazer. If anyone follows we will know. If police come we'll know. It is of most importance that you bring it out tonight, or consequences shall follow. You do know the threats that I impose on you in your daily life? Now I suggest you bring it tonight to Star Gazer, Mark.'" Serena read the second letter aloud.
"Let me see that." Reid snatched the uncoded letter out of Serena's hand and pinned it on the board. He then compared the letter to the random symbols he had drawn. "Huh…"
"Please, tell us what you're thinking." Prentiss said.
"Well as you all have probably noticed the uncoded letter has two distinctive writers. The first one speaks, or writes, in short choppy sentences. The other, in a long dignified style."
"So, what? Two different writers? Two different unsubs?" Serena asked.
"We don't even know if these writers are our unsubs." Hotch replied.
"Well, they certainly want this thing at 'Star Gazer.'" JJ replied. "What could that be?"
"Great. More questions than answers." Morgan grunted.
"I'm gonna crack this code soon. I think I found the-what-" Reid squinted at the coded message. His eyebrows were furrowed in frustration.
"What is it, kid?" Rossi asked.
"Well, I thought I had the pattern but this word here should be "city" but it's not. So…" Reid frantically started drawing weird symbols again.
"Well the uncoded letter is signed. Some kind of sword with an X in the middle." Serena looked up from the letter and realized Rossi was shaking.
"Rossi, what's wrong?"
"Fuck, fuck, fuck."
The whole team exchanged glances. This was strange.
"Dave, what is it?" Hotch asked.
"When I was at the hospital, this woman approached me. I let her go, Hotch. And these two men-they-they came out of the crowd. They had guns and knives. They had tattoos. A sword with an X in the middle. I-I don't know. And then this doctor came to say Serena was out of surgery, but by then I had surrendered my gun, so they had tied me up. And the woman, she told Merissa that she was free to go."
Serena was shocked. She had never heard any of this. And by the looks of the rest of the team, they didn't either.
"By the time you got to the lobby, though, they had gotten away." He concluded.
"Dave, why didn't you tell us this?" Hotch demanded.
Rossi leaned back in his chair. "What was the point? They had gotten away, and when you came we were all so focused on Serena."
"Rossi did they hurt you?" JJ asked, with a worried look on her face.
"A little bit. Not much."
"Dave, can we talk in private?" Hotch led him outside the conference room, and the team watched as the two men talked. Hotch said something, and it obviously made Rossi angry. He yelled something at Hotch and walked out the building.
"What did you say to him, Hotch?" Morgan asked.
"Nothing."
"I've never seen Rossi that mad before." Reid whispered to Serena. She agreed silently.
"A sword, with an X in the middle. If they're in line with Lady X, then...maybe Mark Roberts was secretly part of them?" Morgan said.
Serena's phone rang, it was from Kylee's old phone number.
"Hey Kylee, Alayla is-"
"We will bring her to Star Gazer tonight."
"Excuse me? Who is this?"
"We will bring her to Star Gazer tonight. I expect you to be there." Said the distorted voice. Suddenly, a scream echoed from the phone. Screams of agony and pain.
"As you can see the subject is distraught. If you want to help save her, go to Star Gazer tonight." And the other party hung up.
"Kylee Ivanova." Serena said loudly.
"What?" JJ gave her a weird look.
"Call Garcia. To track down a phone number."
"I-why-" Morgan looked confused.
"JUST DO IT!" Serena yelled.
"O-ok!"
"Serena, what's wrong?" Reid asked. He had stopped his frantic drawing of symbols.
"I think Lady X, and whoever these sword tattoo guys...they have Kylee. We need to find out what this Star Gazer is."
Author's note: Hi, woohoo another chapter. Uhhhh do you think they'll save Kylee? :o
