Ch 14

Haruna's POV

It was 3:45 and Fumi hadn't showed up yet. Haruna was immensely worried but unfortunately she couldn't do anything but wait. Her phone was dead.

She had thought she had plugged it in the night before but she hadn't. Now, she had no way to make sure Fumi was okay but to stay put and hope he arrives.

Haruna looked up at the sky which was getting heavy with clouds. The wind continued to whistle through harshly as Haruna directed her gaze to the heavily decorated analog clock that was hanging from the window of the ice cream parlor.

Where are you Fumi?

Asami's POV

It was easy to get Fumi to come to her. She knew that he had always been weak to her tears and that he was very protective of girls. It was also an easy task to figure out when and where Haruna and Fumi were meeting for their date. She just asked Haruna who was happy to tell Asami all about it. It was easy to get Yoh to leave the house. She just had to goad him about how Haruna and Fumi were probably being all lovey-dovey on their date while he was just sitting there doing nothing for him to leave the house in such a huff he forgot his cellphone. It was easy for her to pretend to look sick. She used hot towels over her face to produce a red hue. She put on her best nightgown and waited for Fumi to arrive to put on a show.

Just you watch, Haruna. I am going to ruin your date.

Fumi's POV

Breathing hard, Fumi arrived at Asami's house. He rang the doorbell once, twice but there was no answer. Fumi was beginning to panic even more as scenarios of Asami passed out or too weak to answer the door crossed his mind. Before he kicked the door down, however, a red faced Asami in a nightgown appeared at the door.

"Fumi, you came!" At this, Asami launched herself at Fumi, crying into his shirt. Fumi felt his heart clenched as he hugged the trembling form of Asami. After a while, he broke away from the hug to lean down and press his forehead to Asami's forehead. It was warm and slightly clammy. He looked down at Asami and saw that her red face was getting redder.

"Asami, I think you have a fever! You need to lie down and rest. I'll prepare something for you to eat in the meanwhile."

"Thank you, Fumi," Asami smiled weakly in return. She turned towards the direction of her bedroom but almost immediately she wobbled and almost fell to the ground. Fumi caught her around the waist, noticing how thin she was. His heart began to race and he felt himself blush due to the contact.

"Are you alright, Asami?" Fumi asked with his eyebrows scrunched up in worry.

"I'm fine, Fumi. I was just dizzy for a second. My legs feel weak though. I don't know if I can make it to my bedroom by myself."

At this, Fumi made an impulsive decision. He hoisted Asami up into his arms and carried her to the bedroom princess style. Fumi noticed how Asami buried her head into his chest as he carried her and smiled. That made Fumi's heart race faster than it was already doing. He hoped that Asami wasn't able to hear it.

They arrived at Asami's bedroom where Fumi gently laid Asami on her bed, before bringing the covers up and tucking her in. He smiled tenderly at her as he gently stroked her hair out of her face. Asami smiled back at him, a warm smile he only occasionally have gotten to see in the long time he has known her.

The moment was interrupted as the grandfather clock that was in the living room chimed 4 times.

Fumi's eyes widened as he came to a horrible realization. He looked down at his phone and saw that it was already 4 o'clock. He was supposed to meet Haruna at 3'clock in front of the ice cream parlor. Guilt reared its head as Fumi realized he had totally forgotten about Haruna.

He quickly dialed Haruna's phone ignoring the protests of Asami. It rang and rang but Haruna didn't answered. He found that weird as Haruna always was quick to answer her phone whenever he called or texted her. Now he was beginning to worry that Haruna had gotten hurt somewhere.

Fumi began to step towards the direction of the door but was quickly stopped by a strong hand grabbing his wrist.

"Where are you going, Fumi?" Asami asked with a warble in her voice.

"To Haruna! I was supposed to meet her at the beach for our date at 3 o'clock but it is already 4 o'clock. I can't reach her cell phone so I have to go find her."

"Fumi! Please don't leave me alone! Haruna is fine, you know how strong she is. I-I am not as strong as her! I need you!". Asami began to cry in earnest, never once letting go of Fumi.

Fumi felt his heart tear up in two. He knew he needed to go and find Haruna and explained to her what had happened but he couldn't bear to leave Asami alone. With a sigh, he plopped down on the corner of Asami's bed, promising he wouldn't leave her until Yoh came back.

I'll go apologize to Haruna once Yoh arrives. Fumi still felt worried as he remembered that Haruna never picked up her phone. What if something happened to her? Fumi shook his head at the negative thoughts. She's probably just angry at me for standing her up. She probably is at home now, resting safe and sound.

Unfortunately for Fumi, that was not the case.
