'Severide, Herrmann, REPORT!'
Once again there was no answer. Boden ran a hand across his face.
'Where the hell are CPD?'
Boden sighed and went to grab his radio but before he could a figure ran out of the warehouse and came to a stop in front of them. Everyone stared, and seemed to be stuck frozen as they glared at the man who had just emerged from the warehouse. Then everyone seemed to snap into action as he frantically looked around and turned to run off down an ally. Cruz and Otis ran after him, grabbed hold of him and shoved him against a wall. Boden made his way over, relieved when he heard the sirens fast approaching. Cruz seemed to be growling at the guy, as Otis glared at him.
'Where's our Lieutenant, huh? What did you do? I swear if you hurt him I'm gonna…'
'Okay Cruz, that's enough. Hand him over to the police. The others still haven't come out.'
Cruz nodded slightly, and with Otis dragged him over to the police car that had just arrived on scene. Boden walked back towards the warehouse and grabbed his radio once more.
'Herrmann, Severide. Report.'
Boden changed his radio channel, and tried to reach Casey instead.
'Casey, report.'
Again there was no answer, but as he started to make his way towards the doors of the warehouse three figures emerged from the smoke, two of them supporting the third who was bent over coughing. Everyone ran over, Shay getting there first as Severide and Herrmann removed their masks and Casey slid down the wall and sat on the floor. Shay knelt beside Casey, who was rubbing his throat and struggling to catch his breath.
'Hey Casey, you good?'
Casey nodded and put his thumbs up, still coughing and trying to catch his breath as Shay rubbed a hand up and down his back. Boden looked at Casey with concern, before turning to face Herrmann and Severide.
'You guys all right? We heard the shot but didn't know if any of you had been hit.'
Severide shook his head and looked over at the police cars.
'Na, we're good. Oh, and we found the fire. Office in the back of the warehouse, looked like some filing cabinets had been lit up.'
Boden nodded, and turned around to watch as engine entered the building to put out the fire.
'What happened in there?'
Herrmann shook his head, one eye still on Casey whom Shay had somehow managed to convince to put on an oxygen mask to help him catch his breath.
'I mean, the guy was panicking when I got close. When he saw me he freaked out and grabbed Casey. Put him in a headlock with the gun pressed against his head. I tried to talk him down but he wouldn't listen and it just seemed to rile him up even more. Then Casey pointed out Severide, he was hidden out of sight and I didn't want the guy to realise he was there so I tried to distract him. Severide disappeared for a minute, then I saw him behind the guy. Casey wasn't wearing his mask so we knew we had to act fast as the smoke was getting pretty thick. I stepped forward, the man panicked, pointed the gun away from Casey and so we both ran at him, Severide grabbed his gun arm, I tried to get Casey away from him and that's when the gun went off. It spooked the guy, and he finally let go of Casey, who dropped to the ground as he ran towards the doors. We could see fire coming out of the office so we got Casey up and started making our way to the exit.'
Boden nodded, and gestured towards the police cars.
'You all need to let the cops get your statements. You two go first, Casey can once Shay's finished with him.'
Casey looked over and tried to take the oxygen mask off, but Shay slapped his hand away and shook her head.
Don't you dare, you sit there and stay out of trouble until I say you can go.'
Casey tried to protest, but one look from Shay had him sighing as he leant back against the wall. An officer made his way over to the group of firefighters who were huddled around Casey.
'Could you get a medic to take a look at the guy before we take him to the station.'
Boden nodded slightly, and turned to ask Dawson if she would check him out when Shay stood up from beside Casey and walked over.
'I'll do it Chief; Dawson keep an eye on trouble over there.'
Boden frowned, then nodded at Shay. She picked up the jump bag and made her way over to the man who was sat in the back of one of the cop cars, with the door open. He looked up as she examined him, and she nodded at the police officer once she had finished checking him. They all watched as Shay packed up the jump bag, and winced as they saw her swing the bag onto her shoulder, with it knocking into the guys face in the process.
'Oh, I'm so sorry. I'm so accident prone.'
The man stared at he as she turned her back on him and made her way back over to the others. Severide raised his eyebrows, and everyone stared at her in amusement as she approached them. Shay shrugged and dropped the jump bag on the floor next to Casey.
'What? It was a total accident. I didn't see his face was there.'
Boden chuckled, shook his head and raised his hands into the air.
'I didn't see a thing.'
Shay grinned and knelt beside Casey, who had taken off the oxygen mask and was breathing normally again. He raised his eyebrows at her as he handed the mask back.
'Can I get up now or am I still in trouble?'
Shay laughed, and helped him stand up.
'I guess you can get up, but you're still in trouble. What did I say about walking into dangerous situations. DON'T!'
Casey shoved at her playfully as he went to stand by Herrmann.
'I don't do it purposefully. It just happens.'
Herrmann grinned and elbowed Casey.
'Yeah, and it's always us that has to come rescue you, so if you could do it less in the future that would be much appreciated.'
Boden watched as Casey, Herrmann and the rest of his crew shoved at each other playfully as they walked back towards their truck, relieved that this situation hadn't ended in disaster.
