This one's cute, fluffy, and short.
Reggie's Date
"Okay but like blue socks or gray or rainbow or plaid or…" Reggie gasped for breath and was about to continue until Luke clapped a hand over his mouth.
"Look, buddy, I am totally here for you but I also totally do not have an opinion on what socks you should wear on your first ghost date. I think we might need to call for a little backup."
Reggie nodded solemnly, still staring at the five pairs of socks in front of him.
Luke shook his head in amusement and then poofed into the hallway outside Julie's room. He knocked politely and then poked his head in to see that she was working on her bed.
"Hey Julie? We could use some expert girl assistance in the studio."
"Oh god, what is it this time. We already learned I can't help you sew your ghost clothes. And honestly all of you should already know how to sew, that's not a girl thing that's a basic life thing."
"No, no, this one you'll totally be able to help with. Reggie has a date! And I swear to god I don't know what socks are the right socks for a first date so if you could please come help, we would really appreciate it." He gave her the puppy dog eyes that were his trademark look, but he didn't need to because Julie's face had already lit up in excitement.
"Ooh a date? I'll be there in just a second!"
A few minutes later she was sitting on the floor of the studio with Reggie, holding up socks with him.
"These ones, definitely," she said holding up the ones with little guitars on them. "Your clothes on a first date are a way of signaling your personality and what you care about. These have a lot of personality but also won't clash with anything."
"Perfect! Julie you're amazing. Now just to pick out the rest of the outfit…" Reggie said. Luke helped him pull down all of their clothes from the loft so that he could use any of the guys' clothing. Alex strolled in and got pulled into outfit planning, too.
"First of all, where are you taking her?" Julie asked.
"Well… we thought we'd go to a concert, like just sit up in the balcony of one of the shows going on tonight."
"Ooh perfect, okay. So concert outfits are totally a time to show off your style to the max."
"Wait, this jacket is the best one on Reggie," Alex exclaimed, pulling out a jacket with red plaid and leather accents. Julie nodded in agreement and then started digging through the regular shirts for something to go with it. She pulled out a simple black and white graphic tee that wouldn't clash, and Alex grabbed a pair of black jeans.
"Oh I like this!" Reggie said, grinning and feeling more confident already.
Luke snagged Reggie's classic combat boots and a silver dog tag and held them up. "Can't forget the accessories," he grinned, and Julie gave him a huge smile. She knew that this was less of his comfort zone than for her or Alex, but she loved that he was still trying to be a supportive friend for Reggie.
Finally, they had Reggie all dressed. He looked at himself in the mirror and fidgeted with the dog tag a little. Julie saw how nervous he was and gave him a big hug. "Reggie, she'll totally love this date tonight or she's an idiot. Just be yourself, and she can't help but like you."
He hugged her back and then exhaled a big sigh. "Okay, I should go meet her now," he said and waved to all of them before heading out.
Alex looked after him, and then looked sheepishly at Julie and Luke. "Honestly, that made me want to go find Willie, so I think I'm going to head out, too."
Luke looked at Julie slightly awkwardly once Alex had left. Everyone else pairing up made it hard to ignore what was going on between them. Julie threw herself into organizing the heap of clothing they had strewn over the floor and Luke knelt down to help her.
"It's good to see Reggie so happy," he commented after a short silence.
"Yeah, I love that Alex and Reggie have both had time to find people that make them happy and that they're putting themselves out there," Julie answered, smiling.
"They're not the only ones who've found somebody to make them happy," Luke said sheepishly, just as their hands met in the pile of socks.
Julie blushed but didn't pull away, which made Luke through caution to the wind. He slid closer to her on the floor and said, "I know this is corny Julie, but all the things you saw Reggie feeling tonight about this date, that's how I feel every time I'm around you. You totally make me nervous and happy and excited and all those things."
She bit her lip and looked up at him, suddenly nervous herself. Those were a lot of feelings for a teenage boy to be willing to put out in the open. She turned her hand so they were actually holding hands and slid closer to him on the floor.
She wasn't quite sure what to say, so she just went with "I'm glad."
That was all the reassurance he needed though, and he closed the small distance between them and kissed her gently. She wrapped her arms around his neck and they fell back onto the floor, still kissing.
A moment later, Luke pulled back slightly and said, "You do realize we're lying in a pile of Reggie's clothes, right?"
Julie just laughed, reached behind her, and threw a sock in his face.
"Oh no you didn't!" he exclaimed and threw a shirt at her. Before they knew it, they were in a full-scale clothing fight. Eventually they fell back onto the floor laughing, having cleared a space in the middle of Reggie's clothes. Luke reached out and held her hand and they just lay there, grinning at each other.
Sorry I'm being slower at updating, but December has a lot going on for me. I'll probably be down to one post a week for the next month or so. It may be a permanent thing, but it also might just be for December, we'll see. But I definitely have a bunch more ideas that I'm planning on writing so this isn't close to over yet.
