Peter was in daze upon looking at Harley and the suit he wore of his late Mr. Stark. As a mixture of emotions ran through him. On hand he was grateful the Iron-hero came in to save his ass before testing out a gadget that may not even work. But at the same time he felt envy and shame on seeing Harley wearing his mentor's armor. Envy that someone else was wearing that armor besides him and shame in knowing he doesn't deserve to wear that armor regardless.
As for Harvey himself Peter never meet the guy personally aside from attaining Mr. Stark's funeral. Yet From what Tony said to Peter personally, Harvey had a bit of a mouth much like the man himself. But was also brilliant and when he was younger assisted Tony when he suffered a heart attack along with helping him a evading agents from A.I.M.
However from as far Peter can recall. Tony never once hinted that Harvey was going to take on his mantel…though till now he supposed.
'Peter, Harvey!' Happy called out to both of the boys as he walked towards while a massive squad team of shield, agents, policemen and reporters began to surround the battle ruins of the Stark building. But lucky for Peter the law enforcements only allowed the Head of security to get through.
'Oh you two have no idea how glade In am to see you both in alive and in one piece' Happy said in gratitude while taking in a one long deep breath. 'Hopefully with the both of you we might pull a miracle out of this catastrophe.'
Peter then paused in knowing dread at hearing happy's words.
'What catastrophe! What happen to the avengers!' Peter demanded in a sudden panic. While Happy merely looked away in sadness.
'The avengers are okay it's just…' happy then notices a shield helicopter coming down ' I will tell on the ride there'
Peter then climbed into the helicopter as it flew them to the Heroes base while Harvey used his iron-man suit to fly next to them and upon arriving at the site The web-hero's heart sake in horror and devastation.
The Avenger Facility that was once rebuilt from the ground up. After the battle with Thanos over a year ago now once again leveled to the ground. The stage the main building, the hanger and even the storage room were all smashed to bits leaving behind noting more then burnt twisted metal remains roofs, walls and the inferno that engulfed them. As the helicopter pulled in closer Peter Peter could see police-men, more shield agents and ambulances numbering in the dozens and counting. Circling the ruins of the base. Hoping to save any survivors and and bagging the ones that didn't.
When the helicopter landed near to were the pandemics were. Peter could see Sam and Bucky having their wounds treated and from judging From the bandages they seemed to have multiple fractures, bruises and a few minor broken bones. But Rhodes had by for the worse. His right shoulder having suffered third degree burns. With Scorpion's acid not only breaching James armor, but also his skin, muscle and even through one of his bones. The leader of the Avenger laid on the stretcher in agony as parapmedics applied more bandages and ice packs to the pain.
The other heroes like Gravity, Scarlet Witch and Shang chi were busy cleaning up then wreckage of the site and helping the rest of the paramedics with the survivors.
All of which caused peter's heart to further sank.
'How…how could this have happen?' Peter asked to himself. But then gotten answer when The head of shield stood beside him.
Nick Fury
'At moment we don't know. But this was a stage operation right down to the last detail. For Each one of the terrorist targeted a specific avenger that they to handle and when their plan was figured out by Bucky and Van. They they hand a entire swarm of the holographic drones bombard the place'
Peter then looked at fury for a bit and frown. Causing the later to stare hard at him.
'And yes Parker it Is me this time' Fury commented while peter just let out a tired sigh.
'Well that is one constellation…so do you need me to help out or…' Peter ask and Fury responded by taking out a cigarette and begin smoking.
'As of right now with the scavenging no. But maybe you can deal With the press help reassure the people?' Nick fury offered.
The the web-hero then looked a the press and then Michael and Jameson talking together. Causing to him frown furiously…before letting it go and move towards the media.
They were honestly not worth it at this point.
'Peter Parker, Spider-Man! do you know what happen to the terrorist who attacked the avenger's faculty!' One the news reporters said and Peter shook his head.
'That is still being under investigation'
' Spider-Man do you know who was responsible for this attack?' another one asked and Parker responded with just as less energy.
'Still being under investigation but we have a few guesses'
'Peter is there a reason on why the avengers couldn't foresee the attack coming?' A third reporter ask and the young hero sighed.
'Still being under investigation but we suspect our sensors have been bypassed'
'Parker is it true that you abandon your teammates in order take that one Halloween physco on your own and ended up putting Pepper Potts the wife of your late mentor in danger!?' Jameson accused which caused the young hero to groan bitterly.
Even when he expected the obvious it did make it easier to listen and answer to Jameson's scandal and as Peter look over to MJ who stood beside and avoiding his gaze. It only made it worse. Though whenever it was easy or hard. Peter already had a counter points to Jameson's questions by simply speaking the truth and being honest to the best of his ability. Regardless of whenever the old goat or his delusional fanbase thought otherwise.
However just as Peter begin to open his his mouth Harley intercepted him by moving in front of the spider-hero much to his disbelief and then offered his own explanation.
'Actually I determine that the leader of the terrorists the Goblin. Was going to Attack Ms. Pepper at The same time as the avengers and so I had Peter here distract the goblin longed enough to by myself some time in getting Ms. Stark and Hogan out of harms before helping him out!'
Peter then looked at Harley in shock and disgust. Even as he turn his smug grin at him.
'Lucky I was able to rescue my little sidekick over here befor-'
SIDKICK!' Parker shouted out in offense while Harley merely back away with both hand holding in A humorous defense.
'Oh don't get so embarrassed I'm telling the press the truth they deserve hear…' Harley then narrowed his eyes at peter with even more smug contempt. 'Don't they?'
Parker was about to make a retort until Jameson interrupted him.
'Well Parker is it true you acted as this young man's assistant in taking down that goblin? Johna question sternly while stared daggers at him only for more reporters to ask the same thing.
'Well Spider-Man is it true?' One reporter asked.
'Did you act on this hero's orders?'
Peter was levied at what he was hearing. Harley may have helped Peter but was only at the last minute when he already had a plan in stopping the Goblin and after he by himself rescued Hogan and Pepper. If anything Harley was the one that was supposed to be at the award ceremony when his rogues gallery attacked or should already be there with Happy and Pepper when the Goblin attacked.
He dared called him a sidekick when the latter barley did anything!
It was a blatant lie and Parker was not going to stand for it. However right before he could tell off Harley and blow his story to smithereens. Happy grabbed his arm and gave Peter a disapproving look. Causing the latter to be confused and then much to Peter's further shock. This look was shared by the rest of avengers. Including Pepper.
Though not a word has been spoken the message was clear in the subtext.
Just play along kid.
And Peter in spite of all his rage at the the unfairness and shame of it all conceded.
'Yes…it is true' the hero said with spitefulness. Yet the reports either didn't notice or even care. Especially Jameson. Who along with them began swarming Harley and ignoring Peter.
'Well that is good enough for me and further bonus for putting that menace in his place. However there is the business of your name.' Johna then raised his microphone at Harley. 'Mind telling us?' and upon hearing that question the smug armored hero beamed with joy and egotism.
'My named his Harley Keener. If were to go by my status as a US civilian. But for the world and all the bad guys in it. You can call me Iron-Lad The next Tony Stark.'
