Authors Note: This is the second last chapter of my story. The next and final one is going to be a big one with drama, anger, and fighting, so stay tuned for that one
It was Monday afternoon and Lincoln, unlike normal, was staying back after school. why you may ask? Well, he had been one of the 5 people chosen to help out with the upcoming dance next Friday. The 5 people consisted of Girl Jordan, Mollie, Emma, Chandler, and Lincoln, right now the group was trying to decide on the theme of their Sadie Hawkins dance. Random ideas had been tossed around such as underwater or food-themed but none stuck out as good enough.
Girl Jordan, who was apart of the group, turned to Lincoln who had remained quiet throughout the whole meeting "what about you Linc? any idea's?" she asked
"Hmm well it's a stretch, but I was thinking how about a costume theme. Like pop culture?" the group all gave him intrigued looks
"Care to go into further detail?"
"I mean like Halloween. Except instead of just any old costume everyone can dress up as their favorite character from their favorite show movie or whatever, and we decorate the gym with the current most popular franchises right now."
"Anyone else has an idea?" There was silence "Alright then, All those in favor of Lincoln's idea" everyone raised their hands "well then, let's get started"
"I suggest that we go around to each class tomorrow and get everyone to write down on a piece of paper what their favorite franchise is and use the top five to decorate the gym with," Emma said
"Good idea," Girl Jordan said
"I'll see if my dad can cater to the event" Lincoln stated making everyone perk up. They all knew who his dad was and if he could get his dad to cater to this dance, then it would be a dance for the record books.
Lincoln then pulled out his phone and called his dad "hey son. What's up?"
"Dad, I was wondering, could you possibly cater our school dance next Friday"
"Of, course son! how many people are going to be there?"
"Just a sec *looks at everyone* how many kids are in this school"
"Let's see about 20 kids each class, two of each class, 3 years, about 120 roughly," Chandler said
"About 120, dad"
If he was worried at the number he didn't show it "Okay, and what time?"
"The dance starts at 5:30"
"No problem, I'll make sure there's enough food to stuff 300 kids"
His son smirked "I wouldn't expect less. See you dad."
"Bye son" and the two hung up
"He said he'd make enough food to stuff 300 kids" the group cheered at that
"Lynn Lard doing the food? It doesn't matter what the theme will be, this is going to be the greatest dance ever!" Mollie said with everyone agreeing
"Okay so we have the theme, and the catering decided, any ideas for decorations" Girl Jordan asked
"Well we could get cardboard cutouts of different superheroes and villains and hang them up around the gym" Lincoln suggested
"Good idea, any others?"
"We could get balloons with different show images on them" Mollie suggested
"We could also make props and stick them up around the gym" Chandler added more and more ideas were tossed around until they had a good idea of what they wanted.
The next day
The group had gathered all of the student's ideas and were now sorting them while putting them into categories tv, movies, comics, etc. "Okay we'll focus around the top 6 Which are DC Comics, Marvel, Transformers, Ace Savvy, Muscle Fish, and anime" Girl Jordan stated
"So now that we know what we're gonna put up, where can we buy that stuff for cheap, we only have $300 to spend on decorations" Chandler pointed out
"Don't worry guys, I've got that covered" everyone looked at Lincoln "I asked my sister Lisa if she could get a portable matter converter for me, she's working on it now and should be done by tomorrow"
"Dare I ask what a matter maker is?" Mollie asked
"It's a device that makes basically anything you say"
"Wow...that's incredibly convenient," Emma said.
"Yeah...it is." Lincoln looked away for a moment before Girl Jordan caught his attention again.
"Well now that the decorations are handled, the next is getting a DJ" Girl Jordan said
"My sister Lisa is also a DJ, I could get her to play"
"Your six-year-old sister is a DJ?"
"And a scientist with a matter converter. What sounds more unbelievable?"
"Fair enough. You're just full of resources aren't you" Chandler said
"Can't deny it, I'll just give her a call to confirm it" pulling out his phone, he scrolled through the contacts until he reached Lisa.
Lisa just finished school for the day along with her siblings when she felt her phone vibrate, looking at it, she was puzzled to see that it was her brother "hello Lincoln, what's up?"
"Hey Lis, would you like to be the DJ at our school dance next Friday?" Lisa's eyes lit up.
"YES! *cough, cough* I mean of course I would be honored to be the DJ! What time?! What songs?! What themes?! Wha-"
"Whoa whoa Lisa, slow down, why don't you have Mum drop you off here and we'll talk."
"Okay Lincoln, see you soon" and with that, she hung up
The next day
It was lunchtime at Royal Woods Middle School and like every lunchtime, Lincoln was having lunch with his friends "so Linc, could you tell us what the theme for the Sadie Hawkins dance is going to be?" Stella asked
"Sorry guys, you'll have to wait until the fliers are put up tomorrow, but I will say this, it's going to be epic!" Lincoln said, now making his friends want to know even more.
"So have you guys gotten dates yet?"
"Yeah I'm going with Tabby" Liam stated proudly,
"Ha that's funny"
"Why's that?"
"In my old dimension, you and Tabby danced together at another Sadie Hawkins dance in elementary school"
"Really?"
"Yep, though originally you were just distracting her for me"
"Why's that?"
"Because my asinine old sisters decided to hook me up with 4 dates without telling me after I told a slight lie about not having a date to go to the dance with, not that I even wanted to go anyway"
"Then why did you agree to go out all 4 of them?" Sid asked
"My sisters threatened me if I didn't go out with their friends"
"How did it end?" Ronnie Anne asked
"Surprisingly well, my sister's friends got more compatible dance partners, and I got to go to the arcade-like I originally wanted to"
"That's good to know"
"So have you girls asked anyone yet?"
"Yeah, I'm going with Adam Acy to the dance" Stella said with a dreamy look on her face.
"I'm going with Steve Bates," Ronnie Anne said
"What about you Sid?" Liam asked, Sid just slumped in her chair
"I've asked heaps of boys, but they all rejected me," she said sadly.
"Awe don't worry Sid, I'm sure you'll find someone to go to the dance with," Ronnie Anne said as she rubbed her friends back
"And if not, I'm sure you'll enjoy being there regardless" Lincoln added
"What about you Linc? Anyone ask you?" Liam asked. Lincoln forced himself to look more annoyed than pleased with himself.
"Heaps, but most of them were either popular stuck up girls, or were only interested in me because of my looks," Lincoln said in a genuinely bitter tone. While initially thrilled that so many girls in school found him to be good 'hot' unlike back home where he was a 'grampa', it lost its charm pretty quickly as it became clear these girls didn't like him past how big his biceps were or how jealous they could the other girls by getting cozy with him. One even spoke to him like them being a couple was simply a matter of fact considering "Where they stood in the school's hierarchy". At least one tuning him out completely while moving him around like a dummy so she could capture the perfect 'couples selfie' with him.
"Ouch. The perils of being popular?"
"Yep. I think I was better off being a wimp."
"Oh no. Your tall, buff, rich and tonnes of pretty girls are falling over themselves for you. You're life is the sad." Liam said in as dull and robotic a tone as his accent would allow before both boys burst out laughing.
The day of the dance
The whole school had been ecstatic after finding out that the theme of the dance was going to be Pop culture and that highly recommended to dress up as their favorite character. It was also stated that the dance was going to be catered by arguably the world's greatest chef Lynn Lard. The students who were chosen to organize the Sadie Hawkin's dance were excused from their classes for the day. Lisa and Lana had also arrived at the school along with Leni (who had insisted on helping out when she found out what the theme was) they were now deciding on what to put where "I say we decorate the walls with buildings to give a feel like we're in a city" Leni suggested
"That sounds good, and how about overlapping the tops with smaller buildings to give it more depth" Jordan suggested
"Oooh great idea *looks up* and how about we make the roof look like the night sky"
"Sounds good, let's get to work" and the two started along with Mollie and Emma began asking the huge matter maker that Lisa had built for what they wanted which ended up making a giant cardboard city skyline that was as big as the gym walls. While they were doing this Lincoln and Chandler were helping Lisa and Lana with what they were doing. The two boys were carrying in Lisa's DJ set as well as Luna's amps through a portal that Leni had made. After assisting her in setting everything up the two boys started helping Lana with what she would be contributing to the dance. The boys went in and out of the portal, each time bringing out parts of robots until there were a total of 4 disassembled giant robots (or to be more precise, the G1 versions of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron, and Starscream) that both Lana and Lisa had built together.
Using her portable Repair Arch, Lana was able to put the robots back together in minutes, this was mainly since these robots were extremely basic and more just for show than anything else. The robots also moved and acted as speakers to enhance the music Lisa would be playing. The group of kids worked hard all day preparing for the dance, and by the time the bell rang to signal the end of the school day they were done.
The door to the gym then opened up and Principal Proudly stepped in, giving a low whistle as she looked around "wow, just wow. You kids have outdone yourselves big time." she said
"Well Lincoln and his family deserve the most praise here," Jordan said casually
"Hey, we just want everyone to have a great time," Leni said with her siblings agreeing
"That's good, so have you organized the DJ and caterer?"
"DJ's there. and the caterer will be arriving shortly," Lincoln said
"A little girl is our DJ?" Principal Proudly questioned
"DJ'ing is my second passion," Lisa said simply. Before pulling out a pair of reflective shades, a skip cap, and a gold chain that said 'DJ-LEZAH'
"Mmmm I'm not convinced." Lisa pulled the cap backward "Ah now I see it! Good luck kids!" she said and with that, she left.
"Seeing as how the caterer is our dad, why don't you guys go home as well" Lincoln stated
"You sure?" Emma asked
"Positive" Lincoln confirmed
"You guys want me to give you all a lift home?" Leni asked
"Saves walking," Chandler said and with that, the group followed Leni who took them home on her newly built hovercraft.
About 15 minutes later Lynn Sr. arrived in a van with an additional 2 others following close behind. He, as well as the drivers in the other van's and Lincoln, began taking all of the food he made out of the vans and took it to the cafeteria. Lana and Lisa were forbidden from having any just yet because knowing them, once they start, they wouldn't stop…especially Lana. Once all of the food had been brought in and stored away in the cafeteria kitchen Lynn Sr. took his kids home so that they could get ready for the dance.
Sid looked at herself in the mirror proudly, she had decided to go as Wonder Woman to the dance, which she still, unfortunately, didn't have a date for. She had been sad at this but decided to go. "Sid sweetie, time to go!" her mother called out
"Coming mum!" she replied and she left with her spirits high. Soon the two were in the car and heading towards the school…unfortunately…
*cough* *splutter* *bang*
"*sigh* I knew that this was going to happen," Sid's mother said as the car's engine finally died. She then turned to her daughter "sorry sweetheart, looks like we're going to be late, I'll call us a cab" she then pulled out her phone and called up the local cab company. As she spoke to the person on the other end her face fell "okay, thank you" and with that, she turned back to her daughter "it's going to be an hour wait"
"What?! Forget that, I'll get there on foot" and before her mum could stop her she hopped out of the car and ran off. Sid only managed to run 2 blocks before rapidly slowing down to a slow walk "why the hell do we have to live so far away from the school" she said as she kept walking after passing another block she felt something hit her arm "huh?" seeing a drop of water she was then hit by another and another "you've got to be kidding me" she said she only made it about 15 more steps before the heavens opened up and rain came bucketing down "great" she muttered and she continued walking while picking up the pace as best she could.
Soon Sid had reached the more business part of Royal Woods, choosing to cut through allies, Sid weaved her way through Royal Woods…but as she was about to exit the last ally, a pile of garbage landed on top of her. "ugh!"
"Oops, sorry kid, I thought the dumpster was there" a man called out from above
"Clearly not!" Sid called back and she shook most of the garbage off. "With any luck, the rain will clean me up…mostly" exiting the ally, she crossed the thankfully empty street and found herself now in front of Ketchum Park "oh I know, I'll cut through the park to save time!" she said knowing that the school was only 3 blocks away from the park. Unfortunately, like the rest of her night so far she was in for a lot of trouble. The smell of the garbage, which had been mostly food, had attracted some guests. As Sid quickly walked along the path she was confronted by some stray dogs, and they looked hungry. "Uh sorry doggies but I'm kinda in a hurry," she said before she noticed more dogs coming out from all directions "why are there so many stray dogs in this park?" she questioned. As they began to advance on her, she began running as fast as she could to get away from them. The dogs chased her through several bushes which scratched up her arms and legs. Turning her head, she saw that the dogs were hot on her heels, she then turned to look ahead again only to run straight into a tree, breaking her nose in the process.
She fell back onto the ground with a dull thud before the dogs started biting and licking her. Still, in a daze from the impact, Sid began flailing her arms and legs around to get rid of the dogs. Thankfully they backed off, choosing to find a meal that would put up less of a fight. Getting back to her feet and using the tree to support herself as she gained her baring's. once she was more alert, she saw that she was covered in bite marks and was bleeding. Feeling her nose, which was hurting like hell, she felt that it was broken and saw that her hand was covered in blood that was pouring out of her nose. Pinching the bridge of her nose to stop the blood from coming out, she continued heading to the school. Climbing over a hill in the park, when she got to the top she tripped and tumbled down the other side and landed in a large muddy puddle. Sid was now almost at her wit's end with all of the crap that had happened to her tonight. Hoping that the rain would clean her by the time she reached the school, she pauses and realized something "and it's stopped raining" she muttered angrily. As she started to get out of the mud puddle, one of her boots came off and sunk into the mud "great" she simply said and she continued on her way.
At long last, she finally reached the school. Walking in, she headed to the Gym where she saw Miss Thatcher sitting at a table out the front of the gym doors. When she saw Sid, her jaw dropped "Oh my goodness Sid, what happened to you?!" she exclaimed
"Everything, now stamp my hand" the Teacher complied and stamped Sid's cleanest hand before she entered the gym. When she did all of her anger temporarily washed away as she went into awe at how awesome everything was. "Holy crap!" she said in awe before she went to find her friends. As she walked through the gym kids kept looking at her in shock and surprise at her appearance. The first person she found was Liam who was dressed as Zoro from One Piece. He was sitting at a table with Tabby who was dressed as Spider-Woman sitting on his lap as he fed her doughnuts. "Hey guys" Liam and Tabby froze as they saw Sid
"Sweet mother of pearl Sid, what in tarnation happened to you?!" Liam asked
"You look like you were mud wrestling with a pack of dogs!" Tabby added as she got off Liam allowing him to get up
"My mum's car broke down, and instead of waiting an hour for a cab, I decided to walk. As you can see it didn't work out. Now I'm Wonder Woman after she got into a fight.."
"Do you want us to take you to the nurse?" Liam asked
"No, I'm fine…ish. Where are the others?"
"Ronnie and Stella are with their dates dancing and the last I saw Lincoln he was over with his sister at the DJ system"
"Cool, thanks Liam" and with that, she headed over to the DJ station.
As she approached the DJ station, she saw Lincoln chatting with his sister Lisa who looked to be having the time of her life. Like everyone else they too were dressed up. Lisa was dressed up as the human form of DJ Pon-3 from My Little Pony: Equestria Girls and Lincoln were dressed up as buh-buh-buh *she shook her head* Batman "hey Linc, hey Lisa" she greeted
"Dear god Sid! What happened to you?!" Lincoln exclaimed
"Let's just say, I should have waited for a cab" Lincoln looked Sid over she had multiple bleeding bite marks all over her arms and legs
"Sid, come with me," he wasn't asking as he grabbed her by the hand and guided her to the cafeteria to get her cleaned and patched up.
Lincoln's dad had been shocked when he saw the injured Sid and offered to help through Lincoln kindly declined, saying that he would do it. After cleaning her and her wounds up with a wet soapy cloth, he sprayed all of her wounds with disinfectant and then covered said wounds with either bandages or band-aids. Sid had to admit her night had started pretty crappy...but the upside was that she had Lincolns undivided attention, for now at least. A few more minutes and Lincoln stood back up "there we go, now your Wonder Woman Halloween edition"
She half smiled, a little sad that it was over so quickly "thanks Linc."
"Anytime, now go enjoy the dance and the fantastic food" Sid nodded and walked off. After getting a quick snack Sid began dancing and singing. While Lincoln did partake in some of the dancing and food, he mainly kept an eye on everything to make sure there were no fights or problems. He also kept an eye on Sid, just encase she needed help. During some of the 'couples dances' that Lisa had played, he couldn't help but smile as he saw his friends dancing with their dates, well except for Sid who just watched them with jealousy or sadness.
"Alright boys and girls, this is the final song of the night, and this one is just for couples, so grab that special someone and head to the dance floor" Lisa said, hearing her brother sigh she looked at him "what's wrong Lincoln?" she asked
"I'm about to do something that I hope I won't regret," he said before he hopped off the DJ stand and made his way quickly over to Sid.
Sid watched as her friends headed to the dancefloor with their dates and gave a sad sigh, she was about to head to the cafeteria to get some more food when Lincoln appeared in front of her "Wonder Woman, may I have this dance?" he asked, nodding furiously, Sid let Lincoln guide her to the dance floor. At first Lincoln found the dancing to be a bit awkward due to Sid's massive belly being in the way, but he quickly adapted, and soon he was dancing just as well as the other couples.
"I've got to say Lincoln, that bat-suit looks absolutely amazing," She said while blushing up a storm.
"Thanks, it's actually a disguise ring that Leni made, only this one disguises you as whatever you tell it to"
"That's amazing! You must be the luckiest guy in the world"
"That's something that I definitely won't deny" the two then gave a bit of a laugh and continued dancing until the song finished.
"And that's it, everyone, I hope you all had a great night. Let's give a round of applause for Jordan, Mollie, Emma, Chandler, Leni, and Lincoln for making this great night possible!" the crowd cheered and whistled for the named individuals. Soon the gym began to empty until the only ones left were the named individuals, Lisa, Lana, Lynn Sr., and a few teachers.
"That was a stupendous dance kids, one of the best I've ever had the pleasure of being at" Principal Proudly stated, she then looked at Lincoln's family "and thank you all for helping out, especially you Mr. Lard"
"Ah don't mention it, I'm just glad the kids liked my food" he replied while half-smiling at Proudly "And the faculty too." The principal laughed but didn't deny it. When you had a world famous chef catering for you it was only natural to take advantage.
"Well we'd better start cleaning up," Jordan said with the other kids agreeing.
"Oh you can do that on Monday, most of you look like you're about to fall asleep" Principal Proudly stated, and she wasn't wrong, most of the kids there were exhausted. Mr. Lard gave Jordan, Mollie, Emma, and Chandler, a large bundle of the remaining food each, which they happily accepted before they left and with Lynn Lard Sr. and his family the following suit.
