Chapter XXVII
The One Where Ross's World Falling Apart
Sunday, April 24th, 2005
"Rachel please hang in there. You'll be fine." Ross said as he held Rachel's hand
"Ross, I'm scared." Her eyes started to get teary
"Everything will be fine. I promised. Just hang in there, okay?" Ross gently stroked her hair and placed a kiss on her lips
"I promised, everything will be fine." He whispered to her
"I'm so sorry. Mr. Geller, you cannot go any further." The nurse forced him to let go of her hand as they brought Rachel inside.
Everything will be fine, right?
It has to be fine.
Ross was kneeling in front of the O.R. crying so bad it feels like his soul just left his body.

3 hours earlier
"For the last time, I'm not going to name our kid Darwin!" Rachel yelled at Ross
"It's not like you pick a good name. Like what kind of name Emmery is?" Ross scoffed
"A great name, it means brave. I read it in a novel and I really love it." She explained
"Yeah right. I'm not going to name our kid from some cheap romantic novel."
"Oh.. come on Ross. We need a boy's name for the baby. It took us eight months to finally decide on a girl's name. We don't have another eight months to waste." Rachel whined
"I know. But I cannot settle on that."
She sighed, "I guess if we have a boy then we'll just name him Phoebo just like what Phoebe wanted to." She rolled her eyes
"Come on, don't be mad, we'll find something soon." He tried to reassure her.
"Well, my due date is in a few days. Soon is not good enough." She sulked
"Okay, we'll discuss it tonight, deal?" He said as he gently brushed her hair
"Fine." She finally gave up.
Soon after, Ross pulled over their car to the driveway. They arrived at Monica and Chandler's Westchester house. Joey is going to film his movie in Greece for at least four months, so they decided to throw him a farewell dinner, just the seven of them and their kids.
"So, we're here. I'll go get Emma. You can just go inside." Ross said as he helped Rachel untied her seatbelt
"Thank you." She smiled at him and walked inside the house
Ross then picked up Emma from her car seat and walked inside the house.
"Rachel! When is your due date?" Monica gave her a hug
"Any days now." She explained it with the biggest smile on her face
Ross then walked inside and put Emma down.
Emma immediately ran toward Joey.
"Uncle Joey!" She screamed in joy
"Here she is my little princess." Joey held her in his arms and swung her around.
Rachel and Ross can't help but chuckled
"She loves her Uncle Joey so much, huh?" Monica asked
"Tell me about it. There's no week goes by without her asking me to give him a call." Rachel explained
Ross couldn't help but smile. Even he admitted that Joey is indeed Emma's favorite uncle.
"Alright I think I'm going to lay down on the couch." Rachel said and then she sat down on a couch while watching Emma and Joey played together.
"So how is it with you and Joey?" Monica asked Ross
"Actually, I haven't spoken to him since Emma's birthday. But I think I'll try to talk to him today." He said
"That's great. I'm proud of you." Monica gave her brother a hug.

Alright, the dinner is ready. They all sat down in their seats.
"So Joey, what's the movie about?" Mike asked
"What movie?" Joey asked innocently
"Duh, the one you're going to shoot in Greece of course." Monica replied
"I sometimes wonder how you actually remember all those lines." Chandler said sarcastically
"Hey! It's my talent." Joey defended himself
"So, about the movie?" Rachel asked
"Right, it's about a spy. I'm an undercover CIA agent on a mission to Greece and me and my partner are trying to catch a drugs syndicate. How cool is that?" Joey explained it proudly
"Do you even know what the CIA stands for?" Ross asked him
Rachel took a glance over Ross and cannot help but feeling a little bit proud that Ross is finally being normal again around Joey.
"Of course I know! It's.. Uh.. What is it again." He thought about it seriously
They began to laugh
Joey then shook his head, "I forgot about the CI, but I'm sure the A stands for America." He said proudly
"No, it's not. It stands for 'Central Intelligence Agency'" Chandler explained
"What? That doesn't make sense." Joey whined
"It's okay Joe. I didn't know it either." Phoebe tried to cheer him up
"So, Ross, have you guys picked a name for the baby yet?" Mike asked
"Well actually, yes and no." He replied
"What do you mean?" Monica asked
"Well, we have a name for a baby girl. But still no name for a baby boy." Ross explained
"So, what is the baby girl name?"
"Oh, I'm sorry. We kinda want to make it a surprise and tell you guys when the baby is born." Rachel said
"That's right, we want it to be a surprise." Ross said as he looked into Rachel and gently rubbed her belly.
After they finished their dinner, Ross helped out Monica cleaning and washing the dishes. Soon after they are done with the dishes.
"Do you know where Joey is?" Ross asked Monica
"I think he's on the porch with Chandler. Are you going to talk to him now."
"I guess."
"Well, good luck." She gave her brother a hug
"Alright, thank you."
On the porch, Joey and Chandler were talking.
"So how was the thing between you and Ross? He seems to be nice with you earlier." Chandler asked
"Yeah, actually he is. But I haven't spoken to him since Emma's birthday." Joey explained
"Maybe you should talk to him."
"Yeah, maybe I should."
"And what about Rachel?"
"Well, she said she forgave me. But I don't think I could ever forgive myself." Joey sighed
"What do you mean? Don't tell me you're still in love with her?" Chandler asked curiously
"Well, I tried not to. But, it's hard. It's harder every time I saw her, I just couldn't help but .." Joey couldn't finish his words
"I'm sorry Joe. But you have to. Rachel is Ross's wife."
"I kno-"
Then suddenly Ross barged in.
"What?" Ross looked at Joey in disbelief
Ross was listening the whole time. His face is now red, filled with anger. He couldn't take it anymore.
"Look Ross, you have to calm down." Chandler tried to grab his hands but he failed
Ross punched Joey in the face. Blood started to run from his nose.
Hearing all the commotion, Rachel and Monica quickly ran outside.
As soon as they saw them Rachel was shocked, her jaw dropped and her eyes started to become red and teary.
She looked at Joey's face covered in blood and then took a look at Ross who was standing there with his hands covering his face.
"Ross, what are you doing?" Rachel asked him weakly
"It's okay. I deserved that." Joey said as Chandler helped him to get up.
"Ross?" Monica came to her brother and tried to calm him down
Ross then took a glance at Rachel's and he immediately regretted everything he just did. Her eyes were red and teary, and she looked so upset and clearly he let her down. He then kneeled in front of her and started hugging her.
"I'm sorry." He muttered
She then took a deep breath, "It's not me you should apologize to. It's Joey." Rachel said with her shaky voice
He then stood up and walked over Joey.
Before he could reach him, a scream startled all of them.
"Oh my God! Rachel! You're bleeding!" Monica screamed
Rachel then looked down and found blood flowing in her legs.
Her face turned pale.
Ross quickly ran over her and grabbed her.
"Okay, we're going to hospital." Ross said
"Okay, let me drive." Joey said.
"But Joey." Chandler hesitated
"Alright we have no time to argue!" Joey insisted
Joey then ran inside the house and grabbed the key.
Ross then looked over to Monica.
"It's okay, I'll take care of Emma. You just go." Monica reassured him
Chandler then helped Ross take Rachel to their car and soon after Joey hopped on the car and they left.
Monica was stunned. Chandler saw her and tried to soothe her.
"She's going to be fine. Don't worry." Chandler said
"Okay, we have to drop the kids to mom's. I cannot let Ross do this alone." Monica looked at him, practically begging him to do so.
"Okay, let's go get the kids."

During the ride to the hospital Rachel's face started to become pale. Ross tried to calm down and tried with all his strength not to break down in front of her.
"Rach..honey.. you have to stay awake, okay?"
"Ross..I'm scared." She said weakly
"It's alright. I'm here, okay. Everything is going to be okay." He held her hands and squeezed it.
She nodded and gave him a weak smile
Not long after, they arrived at the emergency room.
The doctors examined her quickly and decided to do an emergency c-section on her.
They were all running as they made their way to the O.R.
She's been losing a lot of blood, and they cannot waste any more time.
"Rachel please hang in there. You'll be fine." Ross said as he held Rachel's hand and ran beside her
"Ross, I'm scared." Her eyes started to get teary
"Everything will be fine. I promised. Just hang in there, okay?" Ross gently stroked her hair and placed a kiss on her lips
"I promised, everything will be fine." He whispered to her
"I'm so sorry. Mr. Geller, you cannot go any further." The nurse forced him to let go of her hand as they brought Rachel inside.
Everything will be fine, right?
It has to be fine.
Ross was kneeling in front of the O.R. crying so bad it feels like his soul just left his body. Joey hugged him tightly.
"She's going to make it. They both are going to make it." Joey tried to reassure him
"She promised to be by my side forever. I cannot lose her." Ross said with his shaky voice
"Hey, don't you think about that, Ross. Look at me. She's a fighter. She's going to be okay. And you need to be strong for her. For Rachel. Okay?"
Ross nodded and hugged him
"Thank you." He said
