After their long bath, Wyatt and his future self started to work on dinner, blissful peaceful dinner. They even decided to eat at the table which they hardly ever did. Future Wyatt set the high chairs strategically in case they needed to reach any one of the kids during meal time. Julian, Meghan and Angie played on the living room carpet, watching silly old cartoons. The air was filled with their laughter. Future Wyatt couldn't help but stare at them from time to time. He had forgotten about these beautiful moments. The calm before the storm, these moments between the previous battle and the next were all he had in the future before it got really bad. Aunt Paige was right on point yesterday at the picnic, he needed to remember the good moments to endure the bad ones.
"How we doing over there?" asked Wyatt from the kitchen. Serving spaghetti portions onto small kiddie plates.
"All set" said Future Wyatt. "Where's Sam?"
"She's getting ready. She'll be right down" he said leaving the plates and going to put the babies on their chairs. Future Wyatt already had Angie in his arms, closely followed by Julian and Meghan, their eldest. They tugged on his pants, asking to be lifted up.
"I got you, little man" said Wyatt picking up his son.
"Come on, little lady" said Future Wyatt as he lifted Meghan next.
Meanwhile, upstairs, Sam was staring at her reflection on the mirror. She didn't want to do it, but if they were going to talk about incoming battles the next day, she honestly didn't think she would be able to handle a lot more so well. She had to talk to Wyatt, both of them, tonight.
She climbed down the stairs to see both Wyatts serving the kids' meals.
"Oh good, honey, you're here. I just need to serve our plates"
"I got it" she said going to serve some food for them as well. In all honesty, she was starving. She could feel her stomach growling and she couldn't help but to caress her belly. Shhh, momma's got ya. She thought.
Soon, they were having dinner together. She kept staring from her husband, to each of her kids. They meant everything to her, and everything didn't even begin to describe it.
After dinner, they turned on the news while the kids continued playing on the carpet. Wyatt and Sam were sitting together, holding each other. Future Wyatt was on the other couch, staring at the screen and at his children alternately.
Undeniably, the evening news were all about today's attacks. How a lot of people had died in freak ways throughout already strange occurrences. How some had been inexplicably saved from horrible deaths. How this could mean retaliation to whoever was responsible…
A couple hours later though, kids started nodding off so it was clearly bedtime for them. Angie was already out, while Julian and Meghan rubbed their little eyes still orbing their toys back and forth. Wyatt and Sam got the kids ready for bed, while Future Wyatt was left to do the dishes.
"Sleep tight, little bug" Sam said to her baby daughter Angie. Wyatt was having a hard time putting Meghan to bed. Julian had fallen right down to sleep as soon as he was in bed, but her, she had renewed energy as soon as she was in her crib. Sam came over to her with her favorite giraffe. She held it, after asking for a kiss from mommy and laid down on her pillow.
"Night-night" she said to her parents. Sam bent down to kiss her again. Wyatt held Sam as they both took a moment to contemplate their children.
"He can take care of the kitchen. Let's go to bed" said Wyatt referring to his future self.
"Actually, I need to talk to you"
"OK" he walked to their bedroom, but she pulled him back.
"Both of you"
They went downstairs where Future Wyatt was wiping the kitchen counter.
"I'm all done here" he said putting the kitchen towel to dry. "I'll get out of your way" he smiled.
"Wait. I need to talk to you guys"
"Alright" he followed them to the living room. Wyatt and his future self sat back where they had been sitting a while ago. Sam, however, stood a couple feet away in front of them. Wyatt wondered what was bothering her. He'd noticed earlier but decided to let her talk about it when ready, not unlike his mother Piper. Future Wyatt dreaded that she was going to tell him about them, but understood why she needed to, and as nervous as he was, he couldn't help but feeling thankful she loved him so deeply.
"Did something happen?" asked Wyatt. "When you disappeared?"
"Yes… and no" she told him. "OK" she said pausing between sentences. "I need you to promise me, that neither of you will say or do anything until I'm done talking" they agreed, both now confused. Neither version of Wyatt fully understood what was it she needed to say. Wyatt didn't see the need for his future self to talk about what happened on her time trip; and Future Wyatt didn't get what telling him the truth had to do with their accident earlier that day. "This morning, when Wyatt" she nodded towards his future self. "and I were looking for a spell to get rid of Elak in the Book of Shadows, he confessed something to me" her throat was tightening with every word. "When he first got here to our time, he orbed into our bedroom and…" she gulped. "I thought he was you and…" words got stuck in her throat for a moment.
"We were together… in bed" Future Wyatt confessed to himself. Sam couldn't hold back her tears anymore. They ran down her face as she waited for her Wyatt's reaction. "It was that that caused the whole spell incident" he went on. Wyatt closed his eyes and took a deep breath. The silence was heavy with expectation. It made a couple minutes feel like an eternity.
"How could you do that to me?" Sam felt a stab right through the heart at Wyatt's words, but he surprisingly turned to his own future self a moment later. "To us? To her?"
"I'm so sorry. There's really no excuse for…"
"You're right, there isn't" said Wyatt raising his voice. He was about to stand up and argue some more, but Sam stopped him on his tracks.
"I'm not done…." She said teary. Both Wyatts stared at her now. She took one more deep steadying breath. "We were missing the whole day here, but for me it took a couple days to get back" Sam went on, unable to stop now. "I ended up in the hospital and… I found out… I'm pregnant" she and Wyatt gulped painfully. Pain settled in her chest, she could feel her legs being drained of all strength, her hands shaking now, her face soaked by tears. "They told me it's almost two months along" Future Wyatt held his head between his hands.
"So, for all we know…" said Wyatt. Sam nodded, wiping her face dry to no avail. He looked down trying to process such heavy information received in such a short time. He took another deep breath and kept silent once again.
"I'm so sorry" she broke the silence before running upstairs away from them both.
"You gotta understand it had been years since I saw her last" Future Wyatt tried to excuse himself. "Of all people, you can understand what was that like for me… for us…"
"None of that matters now. Don't you get it?" said Wyatt exasperated. "When she was pregnant with the twins, it almost killed her. Have you completely forgotten about that? We have no idea what this would do to her… if she can even survive this… you might have just taken her out of lives… out of our children's lives a whole lot sooner"
"I would never hurt her…" Future Wyatt said more to himself than Wyatt.
"You already have" Wyatt said getting up from the couch. "Just stay away from us" he went upstairs as his future self orbed out of the house more heart broken than he had ever felt if that was at all possible.
Wyatt went upstairs and opened their bedroom door slowly. Sam was sitting on the bed still crying her eyes out, staring vacantly to the floor. He sat next to her without a word. None of them really knew what to say to each other at the moment. He reached for her hand and sat in silence by her side.
She was so disappointed in herself. She had let him down and there was nothing she could do about it. Her body felt drained of every bit of energy; the aching in her chest overwhelmed her. She allowed herself to fall against Wyatt's shoulder still unable to feel any relief.
Wyatt held on to her. He couldn't understand how he would do something like this. It had been himself who put them all in this position in the first place. He tried to find the logic in his actions and then, having her this close would make him throw caution to the wind and hold onto her forever. He couldn't help but think on how much she still meant to him after all those years. How he still felt so irrevocably in love with her, even at world's end. He lifted her face, but she kept dropping it back down, unable to look at him. He lifted it again in search of her eyes. So much pain reflected in them. He kissed her. No matter what happened next, this was their rightful place, right next to each other, one soul. She belonged by his side and he belonged by hers. The world could end or keep spinning and that fact was never gonna change. He knew that now. He had always thought this was their truth but now he really knew for sure.
He kept on kissing her and, still in fear, she held on to him. They laid back on the bed wrapped around each other. She undressed him lovingly, kissing every bit of him she could reach. He caressed every curve of her body memorizing every single part of her beautiful lover.
Wyatt sunk once more into his beloved making him feel like home. He held on to her, feeling her between his fingers, filling his every breath, invading his every thought. Even entering her very self like this didn't feel close enough. It would never be enough of her, of them as one. He could feel her trembling under and all around him. "Stay with me" he told her beautiful face, the mother of his children, his soulmate. She kissed him again, her tears giving no truce, and nodded with an aching smile. She closed her eyes afraid she might not be in this moment, that it might be all a wonderful delusion.
As they worshipped each other through the night, they kept pulling each other close, even as their skin touched, they felt as if something was trying to pull them apart. After reaching their sweet release, they held on to each other, foreheads against one another, silent and still communicating everything they needed to through each other's hearts, nothing but hearing their other half breathing next to them was required.
