"They're so little." Fitz said.
"I hope their test results are okay."
Fitz and Olivia stood outside the glass window. The nurses were still giving them tests. The doctor had concerns about Lacey, and they were waiting for the results of her drug test. She was very emotionally unattached to the babies, and the doctors always considered that a warning sign. Fitz explained that she was a surrogate, and that she didn't want to get emotionally attached to the babies. He couldn't deny that her eyes looked different. He and Olivia both wanted the drug test.
"When are we getting breakfast?" Sabastian asked.
"I'll take you to get something in a few minutes. Livvie, are you coming with us, or are you staying with the babies?"
"I'm staying here. They need me."
"Okay, I'll bring you a takeout box."
XXXX
"I want to see the babies." Serenity said.
"You heard what Karen said. We have to stay here."
"You have to stay here. I wasn't out drinking last night and stranded at a gas station."
"Shut up. You're jealous because you don't have any friends."
"Your friends left you stranded."
"Summer just started, and I'm already having more fun than you."
"Karen was right about you. You need to stay away from Kelly."
Serenity took her ear phones out her pocket and turned on her music. "I'm going to the vending machine."
Savannah stayed in the hospital room and waited for Karen to come back from the exam room. The doctor let her know that she was drugged. She needed an exam to make sure she wasn't raped. The last thing she remembered was sitting down at the bar and ordering a glass of wine.
The music was loud in her ears. She was starving. Karen didn't get them anything for breakfast. She wanted to go to the hospital as soon as they left the hotel. Serenity jumped when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around and dropped the dollar when she saw who wanted her attention.
"Dad."
"How did you get here?"
"Karen."
"Where is she? Olivia and I haven't seen Karen."
Serenity didn't know what to say to Fitz. She knew one lie would lead to another. The truth was the best answer.
"She's in an exam room."
"What?"
"She was drugged last night."
"Is that why Olivia wasn't answering her phone? She was leaving the driveway when I woke up this morning."
"Yeah."
Serenity didn't give him any information about Savannah. He didn't need to know that.
"Is Karen okay?"
"Yeah, she's okay."
"Is Savannah still with her friends?"
"No, she wanted to hangout with me and Karen. She's at the hospital with us."
"How did Karen get Savannah if she was out drinking last night?"
"It was before she drank anything."
"Karen left you and Savannah alone at the hotel?"
"She was downstairs at the bar. Karen made sure we had dinner before she left to hangout with her friends."
"Okay, I'm going to call Karen to make sure she's okay. You can come to the maternity floor and see the babies."
"I'll stay with Karen and Savannah."
"Okay, are you hungry?"
"No."
Fitz smiled at Serenity and bought some chips out the vending machine. "I'm going to take Sabastian out to breakfast. Olivia is with the babies. You can call me if you need anything."
"Okay, thanks."
