Harmony was once again sitting at the chasm. She'd had another fear simulation session and it went just as badly as the first. Though unlike the first time where she was trapped in a never ending dark void, this time she'd been drowning.
Harmony couldn't figure out why the fear was drowning. She'd never been near large bodies of water. She didn't even think any existed in the city of Chicago. Her eyes open when she registered footsteps. She glanced up to see Tris sit next to her.
"You alright?" She asked. Harmony's brown eyes softened. She liked Tris. Even if she could be a hard ass in the physical portion she could actually be really nice.
"I'm okay. Just frustrated and tired. The fear simulations are taking alot out of me and it's only been two days."
Tris turned her head to look at Harmony. "Sometimes it helps to work through your fears with someone."
Harmony shot Tris a confused look. "But your my trainer?"
"I only handle the physical aspect of training much like Eric did when I was an initiate. Lauren and Four handle the fear simulations." Tris explained. "So what were your fears?"
"A never ending dark void and drowning." Harmony answered with a frown. Her eyes gaze at the rushing water of the chasm.
Tris hummed as she thought the two fears over. The drowning fear sounded similar to her own simulation in a water take but it also seemed different. "Tell me what your first fear is like so I have an idea."
"I'm in a dark void. There's no smell, touch, sight, and I can only hear my own voice. It's complete isolation."
"Well that explains it." At the confused stare Tris asks a question. "Well you're from Amity."
"Yes but what does that have to do with anything?"
"Amity tend to travel in groups. You're not accustomed to being alone. I think you're afraid of being completely isolated."
Harmony thought that made sense. "And the drowning?"
Tris takes a minute to think before asking another question. "How do you feel about your place here in Dauntless?"
"There's nothing I want more then to pass initiation; but as far as I know no former amity has made it into Dauntless. My aptitude results were Dauntless but I'm back to sixth place in rankings. It doesn't set any standards."
"Maybe that's the issue. You are, in a way, drowning under you're own expectations. You got Dauntless on your aptitude tests so you're expecting to be a natural right away. And then there's those members who don't think an Amity can do much, that because you come from the peaceful faction that you're a push over. You're afraid to fall short and it's manifesting in your fear simulations as drowning."
Silence reigned between the two as Harmony thought through this. Finally she asked something that struck her mind. "How do you know about all this?"
"I was a transfer too. I had my own fears and worries while going through initiation." Of course part of it could also be Tris's Erudite aptitude kicking in but Tris wasn't going to mention that. Tris stood up. "See ya later."
Harmony watched as Tris walked away. She stayed at the chasm for a few hours before heading to dinner.
