Prepare To Take It All Back.
After the brutal events that went down at the prison, which lead to both Peter and Cassandra needing a check up. But while they were receiving the aid they needed, prisoners were free to run back in to the city, along the released criminals. Meanwhile, Otto armed with Devil's Breath overlooks the city's downtown street. He stands in front of the big screen, transmitting the appeal of the mayor Osborne. He looks at the sign in anger before looking down at the foolish heard of sheep that followed that arrogant liar without question.
"All these years, all these lies. It's over Norman. Time to give them the truth" He said before he used his mechanical arm to old the canister before ripping it open and releases the Devil' Breath.
People looked around in confusion as the red stuff began to cover them. Otto put on a mask to keep himself from breathing in the deadly red serum which was flowing like a gass cloud over the helpless people. All this, for revenge.
24 hours passed and the city had turned upside down. People were working over time to keep the city from being completely destroys. Even May, with all her strength, helps people who was infected with the Devil's Breath. But it seems that she herself is not very good.
While all that was going on, MJ was delivering news through to the city "This is Mary Jane Watson with a Daily Bugle special report on the bio-terror attack. As of this hour, the number of infected Civilians is approaching half a million. There is still no update from the NDC on the timetable for an antiserum, but they are working around the clock on a cure for this deadly disease… The city-wide quarantine is being heavily enforced. by Sable international… who maintain tight security over all transit points. Throughout the city. Police and Sable Agents continue to battle with Ryker's and Raft escapees… Meanwhile, Mayor Osborn has gone on record blaming Spider-Man and his new partner Batgirl for the prison break and the city-wide sickness, and branding them as fugitives. But he has yet to provide evidence… and many believe the mayor is just deflecting blame, since an exclusive report by the Bugle revealed that this disease originated in a secret, unregulated Oscorp laboratory here in Manhattan. Mayor Osborn insists that Oscorp is working with the NDC on an antiserum, but has not provided any further evidence to support this claim...".
The sound of the TV made Cassandra slowly opened her eyes. She didn't really hear what MJ said because she couldn't focus on any sound at the moment. She looked around for a bit before sitting up, noticing she was in a hospital bed. She remebbered the prison break and all but passing out in Yuri's arms. The door opened up and a Nurse walked in, she had dark skin and long black hair. She was beautiful, and Cassandra had a feeling Kate would've blushed if such a beautiful nurse took care of her.
"You're awake, how are you feeling?" She asked.
"Better than before. How did I get here?" Cassandra asked.
"The Police Captine Yuri Watanabe brought you in. You've been through a lot, Batgirl" The Nurse said, and when Cassandra looked worried she just held up a hand "Relax, your suit is still here and no one even knows who you are. And we wouldn't tell anyone even if we did. You are not the first hero I've had to patch up".
"You've done this before?" Cassandra asked.
"Yes, more times than I'd like, he was a really stubborn man. He is currently out of town, and with the quarantine, it's unlikely he will be back anytime soon" The Nurse said.
Cassandra blinked. Quarantine? What did she mean? "Excuse me, miss...".
"Claire. My name is Claire Temple" The Nurse said.
"Ok, Claire. What happened while I was sleeping?" Cassandra asked.
"Some maniac released a deadly virus on the city. Spent most of our time treating as many as we could. But there are so many infected, we simply don't have the resources to help everyone. Our only hope is a vaccine, which Oscorp claims to be working on. But I fear many will die before the vaccine is finished" Claire explained.
Cassandra got wide eyes at that, and now she had a another question she feared the answer to "How long have I been sleeping?".
"A whole day" Claire answered, making Cassandra jump out of bed and throwing of her hospital gown "Hey! Slow down, you've just recovered from a near fatal exhaustion! You still need more time to recover your strength!".
"I've been sleeping for 24 hours. I've had more than enough rest" Cassandra said as she pulled her suit, she was very thankful they didn't throw it away "Thank you for everything Claire. You saved me, and now, I need to help save the city".
Claire sighed while shaking her head "You heroes are all the same. Thinking more about other's safety than your own. And admirable but reckless life style".
"It's the life we chose. Again, thank you for your help, Claire. Stay safe" Cassandra said before jumping out the window.
Claire sighed but smiled "I don't think I am the one who needs to worry about my safety".
Outside, Cassandra landed on a roof top before trying to contact her fellow hero "Peter? Are you there?".
"Cassandra? You ok? Yuri told me you were still resting" Peter answered.
"I recently woke up. But I'm fine, now that I finally got the sleep I needed. What is the situation? I heard Devil's Breath was released" Cassandra said.
Peter sighed on the other end "Yes.. Octavius was the one who did it... So many people are infected, and now six super villains are running amok. And that is not all, Yuri told megangs of escaped prisoners are banding together and taking over entire city blocks. Looting, strong-arming local residents, you name it. And Sable are just rounding people up and keeping them captives in bases around the city... and there is even a chance that they could be torturing them".
"Damn..." Cassandra said under her breath.
"But I am afraid we need to wait with stopping them for now. Right now Yuri just informed me that the villains are attacking their police precincts. Rhino's assaulting the Upper West Precinct; Electro's at the Upper East. I am heading towards the Upper East right now. Can you handle the Upper West?" Peter asked.
"I'm on it. We'll talk once the situation is handled" Cassandra said before she began heading for the Upper West Precinct.
When she arrived she saw the massive villain Rhino fighting the cops and throwing cars around. With no time to waste, She leaps towards the villain in order to kick him down... only to bounce right of him. This guy was even stronger than she expected. Even Killer Croc and Bane wouldn't be able to just brush of her kick like that. Rhino was clear much stronger than both of them combined. Still Rhino did notice her and turned around to look down at her.
"You are that little girl from the prison. The Spider's side kick" He said with a strong Russain accent.
Cassandra got back up, still ready to fight "His partner. You have rampaged enough. I am taking you down".
Rhino laughed at that "Sorry malyshka. But I am to busy to play with you. But do not worry, you will have plenty of friends that are more than willing to keep you company".
Cassandra gasped as several escaped prisoners arrived with weapons, and was attacking the Police Barricade. She was forced to dodge Rhino's charge as he escaped from the battle ground. He didn't look like the type of guy who would run away from a fight. Meaning he must be working under orders from Octavius. But Cassandra had no time to worry about that for now. She needed to take care of the criminals.
She threw some battarangs to knock their weapons to the side, allowing her to close the distance and hit their pressure points. She couldn't waste time on entering slugging matches with them, she had to end this quickly. It wasn't to hard. Now that she is finally back at full strength, she could handle some punks with little to no issue. She kept taking the criminals down until one remained, he swings at her with a metal rod, but she easily dodges and strikes a pressure point in his side.
"Batgirl! Up top! Convict's launching RPGs, they'll bring down the building!" A Police Officer called out.
"I'll handle them!" Cassandra declared as she used her grappling hook to get herself to the roof tops.
RPGs may be deadly weapons, but at close range they are less effective. So Cassandra didn't have to much trouble clearing the roof tops. But when she was about to take down the last of them, they were suddenly tied up by something... Cassandra had seen those things before. She turned around and saw three Sable Agents with Jetpacks.
"One of the Priority targets acquired. Proceeding to pacify" One of the agents said.
"Are you serious?! We have escaped criminals and super villains running around, and you choose to go after me and Spider-Man!?" Cassandra asked in disbelief.
"All lawbreakers will be pacified" The Agent declared as he and his comrades began firing at Cassandra who was forced to doge.
She was frustrated at their utter incompetence. She had feeling Amanda Waller would've loved to work with these guys. Useless trouble makers who spend more time preventing heroes from doing their jobs, than actually helping people. So Cassandra needed to take them down. Fighting flying enemies was tricky, but Cassandra was no stranger to flyers. Man Bat and Firefly provided good experience.
She avoided their shots as they were flying after her. She waited for the right moment before suddenly coming to a stop. Her sudden halt, made the agents fly past her, allowing her to use her grappling hook on one of their jetpacks. She couldn't risk pulling it of as it could lead to the agent falling to his death. So she just pulled just enough to make him fly down wards and crash right through the roof. The impact was hard and he would likely suffer and concussion, but his armor did it's job, so he will live.
The remaining two agents tried to shoot Cassandra again but she dodged and rushed behind them before quickly pulling out a battarang and threw it in to one of their jetpacks, causing it to malfunction and making the agent fall on to the roof, allowing Cassandra to quickly take him down with a hard kick to the head. The last agent flies over her, dropping some kind of energy bombs. But Cassandra was able to dodge them and jumped towards the agent and managed to grab hold of him. She forced him to fly down towards the ground.
"You're insane! You'll kill us both!" The agent shouts in panic.
"No, I am saving us both" Cassandra corrected and just as they were about to crash in to the ground, she pulled the jetpack enough to make them rise up just enough to miss the ground and then she jumped of, allowing the agent to fly in to a nearby truck, knocking him out cold. Cassandra sighed before contacting Peter "All is clear on my end. Did you take care of the other side?".
"I did, but we got another problem! Escaped convicts are attacking F.E.A.S.T.'s Sister Site in Harlem! May is there!" Peter answered.
Cassandra got wide eyes at that "No! I am on my way now!".
She quickly began heading towards the location Peter told her about. She was hoping she wouldn't be to late. But when she arrived, she saw a fire. Fearing the worst she headed over to the building and went inside.
"HELLO! IS SOMEONE IN HERE!?" She called out.
"Over here!" Came a familiar voice.
Cassandra looked over and saw MJ and Miles trying to pull Peter up. He was clearly weakened from something, and the web line was the only thing keeping im from falling in to the flames. Cassandra jumped over to them and helped pull him up. It was a close one, but they made it out.
Later Cassandra, Peter and MJ gathered on a roof, where Peter recovered from his near death experience with the fire. MJ was helping him breath as he looked at her.
"Is May… OK?" Peter asked, more worried about his aunt than himself.
"Everyone's safe" MJ assured.
"MJ. If it weren't for you and Miles. I would've been-" Peter began but MJ stopped him.
"As dead as I would've been 8 ½ thousand times you saved me. Pretty sure I still owe you a few" She said.
"Heh, Oww… That's smart…" Peter said while holding his ribs.
Cassandra smiled before looking at MJ "Alright MJ, it's time. Tell him".
MJ was silent for a moment before looking at Peter "Hey. I'm sorry I screwed things up. It's just… hard being the one who always gets saved, you know? Sometimes I want to do the saving".
"I'm sorry I made you feel like you couldn't. Still partners?" Peter asked.
MJ smiled "Always".
Suddenly Miles showed up, carrying a box with drinks "Hey… uh, so I didn't know if, uh, you wanted sparkling, or flat or spring or mountain spring so I got one of each. Am I… interrupting?".
Cassandra snickered "Don't know, did he interrupt?".
Peter was blushing under his mask "No. Um. MJ - Ms. Watson, Batgirl and I were just talking strategy".
"Strategy?" Miles asked as he slides down the railing.
"That's right. The city's in danger. It needs our help" MJ said.
"All of our help" Peter added.
"Alright well. Call the play, coach" Miles said.
"OK. Divide and conquer. Ms. Watson - we need an antiserum for Devil's Breath. Oscorp's developing something, but there's no way they can keep it safe from Octavius and Li. We need to find the cure, and protect it" Peter said.
MJ nods at that "I'll chase down some leads".
"Miles you need to be my eyes and ears at F.E.A.S.T. Anything goes wrong, call me. We need to keep that place and the people there safe" Peter said.
"Alright, you've got it… what are you and Batgirl gonna do?" Miles asked.
"A gang of costumed nut-jobs is taking the city apart piece by piece. Time we return the favour" Peter answered before looking at Cassandra "But for something like this, you need something that can help even the odds a bit. Got a little surprise I've been working on for you".
"A surprise?" Cassandra asked.
"I was going to tell you after you took down Li, but I decided to wait until you had rested first. I sent you the location, and use the code I sent to open it. You will find the surprise there" Peter instructed.
"Now I am curious" Cassandra said.
"Alright… Hey wait - um, how do I call you two? I mean do you have like, a cellphone in your… .in your pockets, or something?" Miles asked.
"Ms. Watson can give you our number. Good luck, team" Peter said before he and Cassandra left.
Cassandra arrived at some kind of small station. She used the code Peter gave her and went inside... where she found something that surprised her. It was a suit. She noticed Peter left a message. She played the message as she began removing her worn out suit.
"Hello Cassandra. If you are hearing this message, then it means I couldn't show this new suit I made for you. I just finished making it, and it was not easy, but man was it worth the effort. As you know, there are many villains in the city, including super villains. Now I know you are a really good fighter, but there are some villains that simply can't be beaten with martial arts alone. So I used some stuff from a few of the Research Stations that my best friend owns to make you a new suit. So let me tell you about this new suit I made you" Peter said and began explaining the suit's new functions as Cassandra began to put it on "The body part is made from bullet proof material I "Borrowed" from some people that won't need it anymore. But I had to make it light since you prefer to be mobile, so don't expect you can just walk through bullets like nothing. Your new mask has the same functions as mine does, with the added extra protection. Sorry about the ears, I couldn't resist. The gloves were tricky to make, but I managed to turn regular combat gloves in to Shock Gloves, similar to my electric webbing, and it should allow you to pack an extra punch now. Well I hope you enjoy your early Christmas present. Oh and there is one last surprise the suit will have for you".
After the message, Cassandra walked out of the research station, wearing her new crime fighting suit. She had to admit, she liked it, it did look like a suit she would wear. She remembered the other surprise so she activated something in her suit... and noticed she could turn invisible! Peter had managed to create a stealth suit for her! This will be perfect for her. He other gadgets didn't work while it was active, but she could deal with that.
"Let it never be said that Peter don't know how to give a girl a really nice gift" Cassandra said with a smile, words could not describe how grateful she was to Peter for this. He must've spent so much time and effort on making this for her.
With that, it was time to take the city back.
