-Chapter 13!-

~Two weeks later~

Everything was going good between Andy and Robert. They saw each other a few times during the week and they kept their same routine of calling each other when free and having their usual casual talks.

Pruitt was getting ready to turn over the station and even though he was still emotionally attached to it and he knew that he would always be;he was ready for the new opportunities that his retirement would bring him.

Robert woke up early Monday morning and he got himself ready and went to meet up with Ripley. This was the day that he would be placed in a station and he was more than ready. He trained for countless hours and he even worked hard in a station before so he was happy that now he would be able to be Captain over a station.

Lucas sat in his desk overlooking some files and typing away on his computer while sipping on his coffee mug. He motioned for Robert to enter the office and shortly after he did just that. He sat in one of the chairs and waited for Ripley to speak.

"Robert today's the day;how are you feeling?" he asked genuinely. "Happy I guess but I do want to know which station I'm assigned to" he responded. Lucas sat back in his chair closing the files and he looked up to Robert and smiled.

"Your being sent to Station 19 there shift starts in roughly an hour. Their old Captain is retiring but you'll still meet him there" he replied, taking in his last sip of coffee before standing up to leave the room.

"Wait I can't go there Lucas um Andy works in that station" Robert stated rubbing his hands together.

Lucas ignored his comment and escorted Robert out of the office and soon they got into their separate cars and began driving to the station.

Robert couldn't help but feel nervous seeing as that now he would be considered his girlfriends' boss and he would be coming in to take charge which is something he would never want Andy to experience due to his use of strong words and actions.

He silently hoped that whatever this new position he was in, it would not tear his relationship apart and make it end in a breakup. Of course this was only his nerves talking but he couldn't do anything but just think.

"Follow me," Lucas said as they walked into the station and towards the captains' office. Robert immediately noticed Pruitt sitting there and he knew this could eventually end up even worse than he imagined.

"Herrera it's time" Ripley stated leaning against the desk. "I know we have exactly 10 minutes to line up so let's just make this last one quick" he replied.

Pruitt didn't want anyone acknowledging his leave due to the fact he didn't want to really leave and he definitely didn't want to give up the station. He trusted Ripleys' work in hiring and since he is Chief he didn't have any say in the end anyway. He spent the whole day before chatting with Ryan over beers watching a good game of sports.

Ryan told him everything he needed to hear which helped Pruitt calm down and become more relaxed in the giving situation. He just had to let it go and realize that even though it is goodbye he could always come in and visit.

"Here's your pins and bar, get them on in the right place and meet us out front by the trucks before I call the team down for my last time for good" Pruitt stated handing Robert his needed items.

"Thank you Herrera. I do appreciate your service in serving the community and I wish you all the best in your retirement" Robert said shaking his hand in return before closing the door.

He quickly looked around the office that was now his own and he noticed how cleaned up everything was and he noticed the two keys that laid on the desk along with a folder which he assumed was some documents that needed to be signed later.

Robert quickly placed on his uniform and made it to where Lucas was standing. He gave him an assuring nod to let him know that he was ready. He then watched as Pruitt called line up for the team to introduce them to their new captain.

His eyes met with Andys quickly and he immediately noticed the change in her facial expression, one that he couldn't decide if she was fine or if she was mad and that put him on edge. His mind went blank as he listened to the introductions given by both Lucas and Pruitt until he realized it was his time.

Andy stood in line and watched the man of whom she called her partner introduce himself as her new captain. She was surprised at this newfound information and was certain that it was all a dream but when Maya gave her a gentle pat on her back she realized that this was really happening.

"Isn't that your hot lover boyfriend?" Maya asked silently watching as Lucas introduced him to their team.

"Yup and I knew nothing about it I'm not really mad though" Andy responded with a smile showing her friend that she was ok even though it was really sudden.

"I'm Captain Robert Sullivan and I'll be taking over for your former Captain, Pruitt Herrera" Robert said before dismissing them to their morning chores.

He went to another quick meeting with the both of them before they left the station which left him alone in his new office. He went out to his car and brought in a medium size box which he then set up and decorated his office with everything before he went straight to working on files.

A knock shortly came to the door which snapped Robert of his deep concentration and he quickly told whoever was on the other side of the door to come in.

"Well hello Robert" Andy said coming into the office and locking the door and closing the blinds to avoid any snooping eyes.

"Hi gorgeous before you get started I just want to say I knew nothing about my placement until this morning and yes I know I'm your boss now but I will promise to keep personal matters within our homes and work problems will stay here" Robert said relieving a breath he didn't know he had been holding for all of this time.

Andy walked around to the desk of which she quickly sat on his leg and looked into his eyes.

"I'm not mad at you about the job but I do want you to know that this whole thing will be very hard for me and extremely harder for you but my only wish for you now being my upper hand is to not freak out whenever I'm in a building doing my job just do it when I'm in absolute danger" she said holding his hand and tracing imaginary lines over his fingers.

"Understood.I uh have to do a better introduction to all of my other coworkers but first I'm going to ask my coworker of whom I love very much to give me a quick celebration how does that sound?" he asked in whisper against Andys ear which made her instantly regret sitting on his lap.

"We are not going to do anything in this office and besides the team is waiting for me to return for our usual breakfast meetup so come up whenever you're done" Andy said, giving him a quick kiss which slowly turned into a make out session.

Robert traveled his hand up Andys shirt in which Andy returned the same gesture slowly losing focus of where they were currently at.

"As much as I love you and want nothing more than to finish this, we just can't" Andy said breaking the kiss and looking at him.

"Right but come over to my place after this 24 hour shift and we'll have a little afternoon celebration date" he said watching as she fixed her shirt back into her pants.

"Ya I'll be there and don't miss out on breakfast it's pretty good and it's also the best way to get to know us and all of our crazy talks" Andy said laughing before giving him a quick kiss and leaving to go up to the beanery.

"Herrera late for breakfast? That's a first" Travis called out from the table noticing her first. Andy decided to ignore him and she grabbed herself a plate and sat at the table.

They decided to drop the fact of Andy being late and they moved the topic of conversation to something else. When finished they left Andy and Maya to wash out the dishes given that they chose to do it and it was also the only way Maya knew she would get answers.

"Why were you so distant at breakfast?" Maya asked. "Just thinking nothing special" Andy responded. "That is not the Andy Herrera I know but if you insist I'll leave you alone and whenever you want to talk I'll be here" Maya responded smiling.

They finished washing everything and Andy noticed how Robert never showed up so she gathered up a few things that were placed in plastic bowls for leftovers and brought it down to him with a glass of Orange Juice.

"Just here to bring you breakfast seeing that you didn't come down like I hoped and I didn't want you to starve yourself sitting down here" Andy said placing the food on his desk quickly.

"Thanks for checking in love just got a little busy but I'll be sure to eat this up. Have a great shift I'll see you later" he said in a slight whisper noticing that the door was still open and people could be wandering around.

The shift went as it was supposed to only just a little bit more hectic. They went out on 4 Aid Car calls and three combined calls that ended up taken a toll on everyone. They got back to the station and they went to shower and they each made themselves a quick dinner.

Andy finished up her night routine and made her way into her bunk when she noticed she had a couple missed calls from her dad and a message from Ryan so she immediately called him back in which they talked for about 30 minutes before he decided to let her go.

She had one last call to make even though he was just a few steps away they always had a ritual and she wasn't going to stop it.

"I'm calling to tell you Goodnight and that I'll see you in the morning" Andy said into the phone after he answered the phone.

"You did great work Herrera" he said in a groggy tone which indicated that he was awoken.

"So did you Captain Sullivan not bad for a first day" she responded smiling thinking about the days events and how chaotic everything went.

"My dad is already losing his mind apparently being stuck at home even though he seemed excited earlier and he is saying that retiring was probably his worst decision but Ryan took him golfing and to the movies so he felt a bit better then" she added into the conversation.

"I'm pretty sure it'll take time to get used to it but eventually he may see it wasn't that bad after all. Earlier today before I became Captain he gave me a side eye but I knew that behind it he was proud to see that someone like me would be taking over his handiwork" Robert stated adding on to her statement which made Andy smile.

Andy was happy that Pruitt was trying to accept her new life and even though he wasn't fully on board just yet she was thankful that he was being respectful.

"I'm actually very tired right now even though I would want nothing more than to hear your beautiful voice but I think it's best we go to sleep and catch up in the morning" Robert said, noticing the sudden silence that fell over the phone.

"Ya that's fine later" Andy stated.

"Goodnight Love" Robert replied and soon ended the call.

Robert then plugged in his phone and immediately fell asleep whereas Andy stayed up a bit longer looking up at the ceiling picturing how her life could possibly turn out in the coming of years. Everything she envisioned she hoped she'll be able to experience it and achieve it all.
