So, this is supposed to be a sweet, short slice-of-life piece to brighten up your day! It's not that long, and it's not stressful. No depressing drama, just River cooking a lasagna for someone he loves. Context, this is supposed to be the human AU, but a number of years in the future. I just hope that this helps make whoever reads it feel nice inside, that's goal. More cute fluff coming late!

4:30
The clock read 4:30, signaling that River had overslept. He was exhausted from the day before and had honestly needed the nap. But, if he was making that lasagna he had planned, he needed to get out of bed.
Begrudgingly, River got up and stretched. He had to take a trip to the grocery store. He slipped off his pajama pants and put on a pair of jeans. He could change out of the t-shirt he slept in but honestly he didn't feel like it.
He grabbed his car keys from off the table and headed out the door. The car started up smoothly, for once. River smiled, he really hadn't wanted to deal with the piece of junk if it hadn't worked.
The lights were buzzing overhead as he walked into the store. It wasn't too crowded, but it wasn't exactly empty either. River walked over to the baking isle and grabbed some flour. The recipe called for premade noodles, but he preferred to make them from scratch.
The dinner would be expensive, but hopefully it would last a while. He grabbed some peppers and sausage, pretty much anything he thought would go good in a lasagna. And cheese, plenty of cheese.
It'll be worth it to see the look on his face. He made sure to pick up a bottle of wine while he was out as well, nothing too fancy.
Unfortunately, he got stuck in rush hour traffic. He turned on the radio, listening to repetitive pop music to try and make the time go faster. River tapped his fingers on the wheel. Come on, he'll be home any minute and I have to cook. Everything had to be perfect, after all this event only came once a year.
He pulled up to the house, finally after what seemed like a million years. He mixed the flour and other ingredients for the lasagna noodles. While the noodles were being boiled, he started in the sauce. Some peppers, definitely need mash up these tomatoes…
River took pride in his tomatoes, he had grown them himself. He smiled as the sauce was coming together. The noodles were about ready, they were perfectly tender. He layered the noodles, meat, and sauce in a pan but not without forgetting to add plenty of cheese.
The lasagna was going to take a while to bake, so River had plenty of time to set the table. He pulled out a wrapped gift and set it gently next to the plate across from his own. It was wrapped in gold paper, with a small silver bow. River grabbed a bouquet of flowers he had bought and put them in a vase, the perfect centerpiece for the middle of the table.
Soon, the lasagna was ready. He smelled it as he opened the oven, the freshly melted cheese and spiced sausage making his mouth water.
He carved out two pieces and set them on the table. Then, he broke out the fancy wine glasses and filled them up. He set a card on the table and heard a car pull up. Right on schedule. A young man got out of the car and River ran outside and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Welcome here love," he whispered, "Happy birthday!"
To be honest, the guy in the car is supposed to Hollis, but I don't know what's going to happen to him in the future, so I guess it can be whoever you want.
