An Easy Promise

Regulus rolled his eyes while James and Sirius laughed raucously. Peter was practically rolling on the picnic blanket, and Remus seemed to be amused, though he was better at holding it in.

"Why do I even love you?" Regulus asked, shaking his head.

James puckered his lips cheesily for a kiss, and Regulus snorted, pressing his fingers against James lips and pushing him away.

"Maybe when you stop playing silly pranks, you can have kisses," he said, shaking his head at the lovable git.

"You love my pranks," James replied, tugging Regulus in for a kiss anyway. "And you just said you love me, so clearly I'm winning."

Regulus slumped back on the picnic blanket and closed his eyes. It had been the best summer, but the end was drawing closer by the day. He had enjoyed spending time with the pranksters, but he was ready to get to university.

He'd miss his boyfriend though.

Sirius and James were going into the police, while Peter and Remus would be returning to university. At least Regulus wasn't going alone.

Still. James wouldn't be there.

"I don't like that frown," James murmured, and Regulus opened his eyes to see James leaning over him, laid out beside him propped up on his elbow. "You're thinking about uni again, aren't you?"

Regulus nodded, and James pressed a kiss to his temple. "It'll be fine. I'll come see you all the time, I promise."

"I know. It's just… different, I guess."

"It was weird for us last year," Peter pointed out, and Remus nodded his head. "Going in separate ways is always hard, Reg."

"Pete's right," Sirius agreed. "But just because we can't be together the whole time, doesn't mean we won't keep coming back together. We always do."

James smiled down at him. "Told you, love. It's going to be fine. You're not getting rid of me that easily."

"Promise?"

"That's the easiest promise I'll ever make."
