Dear Mort,
I hope this letter finds you well. Summer heat was almost unbearable and I scarcely did much of anything but read. Harold, Violet's late husband, had a rather large library so I've had a lot of choices of what to read.
I received a letter from Mike yesterday.. He's such a dear boy -well, I suppose I should say young man. He's always writing me "I love you, Aunt Daisy" letters or about his studies.
I sent a package to Slim today. Knowing I wouldn't be home for Thanksgiving, I did want to send him something to brighten his day. I do hope that the loaf of sourdough bread (I made and wrapped) and can of peaches make it to the ranch in one piece.
I'll be sending Christmas presents next week. I found a beautiful watch chain for Slim and a wallet for Mike. It's hard to choose for Andy. I am thinking about a book or two. As for Jess, I found a belt buckle with an engraving of a horse which I will keep here. Violet had a trunk in the attic which she wasn't using so I have been putting the gifts for Jess inside it. He will have a wonderful time opening that trunk when he's found!
Violet is now involved in the building of an opera house. She has always loved plays and I remember dressing up and acting in her hand written plays and stories when I was young.
Have a nice Thanksgiving, Mort
Daisy
PS: Be on the lookout for a package from me.
Daisy POV:
"I hope Slim and Mort like their gifts", she said to her empty room. She sighed as she picked up the latest edition of Buckeye Cookery, a gift from her new friend, Mabel. She smiled when she remembered how Slim hated to cook. "And yet, now he can make biscuits!" she exclaimed aloud. "Someday I hope to see that!
