When Himiko woke up she was lying in a bed. She smelled antiseptic and began to worry. Was the last night a dream? Did her parents send her to a hospital?
"Hello." A wizened voice said.
Himiko looked over to see and old woman sitting at a desk.
The woman had grey hair tied into a bun with what looked like a needle sticking into it.
The woman picked a cane that looked like a needle up and walked over to her. "Hello, hello. How are you?"
Himiko glared at the woman.
"No need to be worried. You are safe. We are at UA High school."
"Where is the girl I was carrying." Himiko demanded.
"She's over here." The woman said pointing her cane at a bed.
Himiko got up and looked at the girl. It was the first time she had gotten a good look at her.
She had blueish grey hair and a horn on her head.
The girl's eye's snapped open and she began whimpering and thrashing.
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER!" Himiko yelled.
"We didn't do anything." The woman said. "But the girl is traumatized, which is troublesome."
"YA THINK!"
"Stop yelling. You're scaring her."
Himiko stopped yelling.
"Thank you."
"Hello." The woman said to the girl. "Can you tell us your name?"
The girl turned to look at them. "Am I safe?" She asked.
"Yes."
"Where is the bad man?"
"The bad man?" The woman asked.
"The man who was chasing me."
"He's not here."
The girl seemed to relax after hearing that. "Where is the one with the nice eyes'? The one I ran into?"
"I'm not sure." Himiko said. "The bad man touched Jason's mom, and..."
"NO!" The girl yelled.
"What?" The old woman asked.
"He breaks things with his hands."
Himiko shuddered at remembering what the man had done to Sheila. At least she was alive... somehow.
"Can you tell us your name?" The woman asked.
"It's Eri."
"Hello Eri. My name is Recovery Girl."
"H-hello." Eri said stuttering for the first time.
"Are you scared of us Eri?"
"Y-yes."
"Get some sleep." Recovery Girl said kissing the top of Eri's head.
Eri laid back down on the bed as Recovery Girl left.
Himiko turned to leave but stopped when Eri grabbed her hand.
"Will you stay with me?" Eri asked.
Himiko didn't know what to do but decided to stay with Eri.
While Himiko sat down next to Eri she thought about the events of the past day.
She met Jason, who didn't even think twice before helping her, even after she attacked him. She found an adult she might be able to trust. And she met this little girl that seemed to trust her. What was happening to her life?
Jason Jolted awake when he felt someone's hand on his shoulder.
"Whoa, whoa." A feminine voice said. "It's all right. You're all right. They just called you back."
Jason looked up blurrily and rubbed the sleep out of his eye's before looking up again.
"How did you sleep?" Miriko asked.
Jason got up and stretched popping his joints and spine. "About as well as I could."
"You must have been tired." Miriko said as they walked towards Sheila's room. "I went to get you something to eat and drink, and when I came back you were asleep. You slept all the way through your mom's physical."
They walked to Sheila's room, and Miriko knocked on the door.
Jason felt malicious intent coming from the door and pushed Miriko out of the way before powering up his armor in time to take a gunshot to the chest.
The door exploded as a shotgun blast tore through it.
Miriko looked up in time to see the door explode, and Jason take a step back. "What the hell!" She yelled.
"Are you Jason Todd?" The man in the room asked.
"No." Jason said. "My name is Jason Haywood. Who are you, and did you hurt my mother?"
"See for yourself." The man said.
Jason walked in and saw a doctor laying on the floor with a pool of blood forming around his head. He looked at his mom and saw that her heart monitor had gone flat.
"What did you... DO!"
"Someone said he would pay me an insane amount of money if I killed you and your mom."
Jason tackled the man out of the room before punching him into a wall. "YOU'RE GOING TO TELL ME WHO PAID YOU!"
"Yeah. Right kid, and you're not fooling me by calling yourself Haywood. I know that you are Jason Todd, and once I kill you, I'll be able to retire a rich man."
"Who said that you were going to be able to kill me?!"
The man raised his arm, which was a shotgun, and aimed at Jason's head.
Jason didn't flinch, and grabbed the man's arm, turning it away from him.
The man felt a burning sensation in his arm. "What the hell! What's happening to my arm?"
"Tell me who paid you!" Jason yelled.
Miriko was working on getting doctors into the room and didn't notice what Jason was doing until doctors had gotten to the room. The man had somehow managed to shut off the machines. Sheila wasn't dead... Miriko was brought out of her musings by the man.
She looked over to see Jason turning the man's shotgun arm away from his head. "Tell me who paid you!" Jason yelled.
"Jason!" Miriko yelled. "Jason! Listen to me. Your mom is not dead! Do you hear me? She's not dead!"
"I just need a name." Jason said. "Tell me who paid you!"
"It was your Dad!" The man yelled.
Jason's world shattered. He knew that his dad was a bastard, but why did he want him dead.
"WHY!" He demanded. "WHY DOES WILLIS TODD WANT ME DEAD!"
"He didn't say. He only said that he would pay me a lot to kill you. I only know that I wasn't the first one he hired."
"Come on." Miriko said. "Let the police take care of him."
Jason let go of the man's arm to reveal a molten handprint.
Miriko walked Jason into Sheila's room and sat him down next to Sheila's bed, after he got rid of his armor.
Jason stared into nothingness while waiting for his mom to wake up."
"Jason Todd?" A man asked.
Jason looked up at the man.
"My name is Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi. I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions?"
"Yeah." Jason said.
"I only have a few questions so this should be quick."
"All right."
"Can you tell me what happened to get you to the hospital?"
"I um. My mom and I were going shopping. A... uh a young girl ran out of an alley. My mom and I were looking her over when a hand reached out of the alley and touched my mom." Jason took in a deep breath. "He um... he made my mom explode."
"What?!"
"When he touched my mom, he made her explode. That's the best way I can explain it. I'm not entirely sure how best to describe it."
"Just tell me as best you can."
"I handed the girl to Himiko and told her to run after putting my phone on the location setting and called my homeroom teacher."
"Who is this Himiko?"
"She is this girl I found yesterday. She didn't have anywhere else to go, and I offered her a place to stay."
Tsukauchi looked at Jason. Most of that had been true. "What happened then?"
"The man undid what he had done to my mom and told me that if I didn't bring the girl back, he would continue to kill my mom until I did."
"What did you do?"
"I created armor that my Quirk allows me to create and fought him off."
"Do you have your Hero License or Provisional Hero License?"
"No."
"So, you willingly used your Quirk without the proper paperwork?"
Jason felt anger in the pit of his stomach. It wanted him to let it out.
Tsukauchi had been a cop long enough to gain a danger sense, and right now his was screaming at him to run.
"Are you saying that you care more about a piece of paper than the safety of the citizens?" Jason asked in a dangerously low tone.
"No. I care about the citizens safety, but you can't go around using your Quirk like that."
Tsukauchi's danger sense was shrieking at him to run and hide.
"Because I used my Quirk my mom is still alive!" Jason's temper was rising. "What! Did you just want me to leave my mom to die like that and run away to find a Hero with the proper paperwork!"
"I need you to calm down son."
Tsukauchi's danger sense took over and he jumped out of the way as Jason's fist flew over his head. "I'M NOT YOUR SON!" Jason yelled.
Miriko and the other cops froze at that.
"Detective Tsukauchi." Miriko said. "Young Jason just found out that his father has sent killers after him. Maybe it's best not to poke the bear."
"Of course." Tsukauchi said. "We can finish this some other time."
"Don't bother." Jason said. "As far as you're concerned, I'm no better than a villain because I used my Quirk to protect my mom. So, either arrest me now, or don't come back."
Tsukauchi looked at Jason. The boy really thought he was doing the right thing, but in a world like this, paperwork came before doing the right thing.
The cops left, and Jason sat down next to his mom's bed.
Miriko knelt down next to Jason and rubbed his shoulder. "Tsukauchi was just doing his job you know."
"In a world where people get penalized for doing the right thing." Jason said.
"I don't agree with it, and I think you did the right thing, but there are laws used to protect people..."
"Where the fuck were the laws when my mother was blown to atoms?" Jason asked.
Miriko rubbed Jason's shoulder. "Is there anything you need?"
Jason's stomach growled.
"I'll go get you something to eat." She spoke.
Jason sat in the silence of the room and shuddered as he watched his mom atomize in front of him on repeat. 'Someone has to do something to stop villains like that.' He finally decided.
Miriko came back to see Jason staring at his mom's bed. "The cafeteria was still serving lunch." She spoke.
"Thanks." Jason said taking the box from her and tucking into the Sushi roll, pot stickers, and green tea.
"No problem." She spoke. "I have to get going. Is there anything you need before I leave?"
"No." Jason said. "Thanks."
"You're welcome." Miriko said before leaving.
Jason looked at his mom and felt like a piece of shit. "I'm sorry mom." He said finally breaking down and crying into her blanket. He clenched the fabric in his hands and sobbed.
"Shh." Sheila said rubbing Jason's hair.
Jason looked up at his mom.
"I'm so sorry mom."
"For what?"
"I hated you after you grounded me. I hated you. Then you were killed, and..." Jason cried. "I didn't want you to die thinking I hated you."
Sheila motioned for Jason to come closer.
Jason moved closer to his mom and she hugged him.
Jason returned his mother's embrace.
There was a knock at the door, and a familiar voice rang out.
"Hello Sheila."
"Hi Haruto." Sheila replied. "I was just coming to check if you were awake so we could run a few more tests."
"I'm awake."
"That's good. Hi Jason."
"Haruto." Jason declined his head.
"Let's get you to X-Ray then. You can follow Jason."
Jason followed Haruto as they pushed his mom towards the X-Ray lab.
When they finished with the X-Ray lab, they went to the MRI lab, and the CAT scan lab after that.
When they finished with that they went back to Sheila's room.
"I'll get your results back as quickly as I can."
"Thank you." Sheila said.
"You're Welcome." Haruto said as he left.
Sheila looked at her phone. "Is it that late already?"
Jason created a watch and looked at it. "Apparently."
"You're going to have to leave soon."
"I'm not leaving."
"Jason. You're old enough that you don't..."
"It's not because of that."
"Then what is it?"
"Willis Todd is trying to kill me."
"He's what!"
"He's sent people after me hoping to kill me."
Sheila was at a loss for words. "I don't know what to say. Why would he do that?"
"I don't know. Maybe because he thinks that he's my biological father?"
"He's not. Willis Todd is not your father."
"He seems to think so."
"Well, he's not."
"Okay. You don't have to tell me." Jason said. "I'm still not leaving in case he tries something else."
"You would be putting the rest of the patients in danger." Sheila pointed out.
"Fine." Jason said. "I'll leave, but I'll be back tomorrow."
"Okay."
Jason left the hospital and walked to the subway.
When he got home, he went to his room and began filling blood packs.
While he was filling blood packs, he called his phone.
Anna, Elsa, Johnny, Midoriya, and Rogue were sitting in the teachers' lounge waiting.
"What are we waiting for?" Anna asked.
"We are waiting for Aizawa sensei to get back." Rogue said.
"He's been gone for hours though."
"He's been gone for..." Rogue looked at her phone and saw. "... Holy. It's already six thirty. We've been here for six and a half hours."
"Seriously?" Johnny said. "No wonder I'm so hungry."
"Has Jason called?" Elsa asked.
"Not yet."
"I hope his mom is doing okay." Anna said.
"You've been really quiet Midoriya." Johnny said. "What's wrong?"
"I'm worried about Himiko and that girl."
"I know what you mean sugar." Rogue said. "Jason knows when something is wrong. Something must have happened to Himiko and the girl."
"Did you guys notice how Himiko was acting when she looked like Jason?"
"She was afraid of us." Johnny stated.
"Yeah. Almost like she suffers from anti-social tendencies." Rogue added.
"I wonder..." Anna began, but was interrupted by Jason's phone ringing.
"Jason!" The group said as Rogue accepted the call.
"How's your mom?" Anna and Elsa asked in unison.
"What happened?" Rogue asked.
"Who's Himiko?" Johnny asked.
"Who's the girl?" Midoriya asked.
"Hold on guys." Jason said. "One at a time."
"How's your mom?" Anna asked.
"She was fine when I left the hospital."
"What happened?" Rogue asked.
Jason told them about finding Himiko the night before, and how they went to the hospital, and how they got home. He told them about the morning, and Himiko's situation.
"Wait, wait, wait." Johnny said. "You're telling me that you found Himiko's parents and threatened them to give custody of Himiko to your mom?"
"Yeah."
"AND IT WORKED!"
"Yeah."
"Dude. You're crazy."
"I have been told."
"What else happened?" Midoriya asked.
Jason continued by telling his friends about his and his moms' conversation, and how he began feeling negative emotions towards her until the girl ran out of the alley and the guy made his mom explode.
"WHAT!" His friends shouted in unison.
"Yeah." Jason said. "One second my mom is standing there looking at me, and the next she is a smear..." He stopped talking. "Sorry."
"How is she alive now?" Rogue asked the difficult question.
Jason told them how he gave the girl to Himiko, called Aizawa, activated his location on his phone, and suited up before attacking the man, and how the man pulled his mom back together before Jason tackled him into the alley.
"Weren't you afraid of him touching you?" Anna asked.
"I sort of wasn't thinking." Jason admitted. "My entire thought process was to make him pay for hurting my mom."
"I understand that." Johnny said. "I'd Penance stare the hell out of the guy who did that to my mom."
"I'd fly up as high as I could before dropping him." Rogue said darkly.
"I would break every bone in my body before I would be done with him." Midoriya said darkly.
Anna and Elsa hugged each other tightly not wanting to talk about their parents dying.
Jason continued talking about how Miriko helped him get to the hospital after the misunderstanding was cleared up.
"You got kicked in the face by Miriko and walked it off!?" Rogue asked. "How? She kicks concrete for her training warmup."
"I'm a bad ass." Jason said with an air of cockiness.
"Right." She said sarcastically.
Jason's tone darkened as he told them about the guy who was paid to kill him.
"Your dad did WHAT!" Johnny yelled becoming the Rider.
"He's hired people to kill me." Jason said before they heard the keys of a keyboard clicking. "I'm going to find out why."
"I guess that you're going to use the 'bat cave' or whatever you call it?" Rogue asked. She had gotten a memory of it when she touched his hand at the USJ, and she meant to ask about it, but forgot to.
"Yeah." Jason said. "And you're lucky my phone is encrypted with encryption codes used by Batman from my other life or I'd be more than a little pissed off."
"Why?" Johnny asked.
"My mom has no idea that I know half of the stuff I do. Back in my previous life I learned how to use computers from Ma Gunn and Batman. I know how to hack and code, and I can do it from my phone."
"So, you're saying that 'the Bat cave' is a program?" Midoriya asked.
"No." Jason said. "It's just my room, only with a few changes."
"Like what?" Anna asked.
"Right now, it's my laptop, and panel's I have on my wall removed."
"What's under the panel's?"
"Currently. Medical supplies, and trophies."
"I didn't know apartments had panel's like that." Midoriya said.
"I didn't know at first, but it's what inspired me to remake the Batcave."
"Is there a point to this?" Rogue asked.
"Yes. I'm going to find out why Willis Todd..." Jason stopped talking.
"What is it Jason?" Rogue asked.
"I'm going to kill him." Jason said in a low, dark voice.
"What is it? Jason, what's wrong?"
"Look up Willis Todd online." Jason said darkly.
Rogue looked up Willis Todd on Jason's phone and saw:
Willis Todd runs for senate.
Appear on the first article.
"Your dad is wiping the slate clean of any of his mistakes." Johnny said numbly.
Rogue and Anna were close enough to slap him, but Elsa froze his head.
Johnny became the Rider thawing his head before rubbing his head. "Sorry. That's not what I meant."
"No worries, but I think I know what I'm doing this summer."
"Don't do anything you'll regret." Rogue advised. "You're hurting right now. Come to UA. That's where we are. That's where Himiko and the girl are. Come here so you are with friends. you can spend the night at one of our houses."
"Yeah." The others agreed.
"Fine. Come pick me up."
"I'll be there shortly." Johnny said.
"See you soon." Jason said hanging up.
"Yup." Johnny said walking outside the Teachers' lounge.
"Be safe." Rogue said.
"Yup." Johnny said waving.
After he left Anna turned to Elsa. "Can you make him?"
"Who?"
"Olaf."
Elsa felt embarrassed, and happy at the thought. "Why haven't we thought of this before?"
"I don't know. It seems like something we should have thought of before today."
"Let me see if I can do this." Elsa said concentrating.
"What are you doing?" Midoriya asked.
"You'll see." Anna said with a giggle.
Elsa weaved her arms through the air and snow began flowing before a snowman formed.
"What kind of snowman is that?" Midoriya asked.
"It's Olaf." Anna said.
"What's an Olaf?" Rogue asked.
"Hi." The snowman said. "I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs."
"The hell!" Rogue said jumping back.
Elsa pointed at Olaf and a snow cloud appeared above the snowman. "There. Now you won't melt."
"YAY!" Olaf said running to hug Anna and Elsa.
Anna and Elsa hugged Olaf back.
Olaf ran over to Midoriya and waved. "Hi. I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs."
"Hello." Midoriya waved back sheepishly.
Olaf ran up to Midoriya and hugged him.
Midoriya looked up at Anna and Elsa who mimed hugging. So, Midoriya hugged Olaf.
Rogue looked at the snowman and wasn't sure how to feel about it. "How did you do that?"
"Magic?" Elsa shrugged.
Olaf ran up to Rogue and reached up towards her. "Hi. I'm Olaf and I..."
"I heard. You like warm hugs."
Rogue Knelt down and reluctantly hugged Olaf.
"YAY!" Olaf cheered.
"Now we just have to get Jason and Johnny to hug him." Anna said.
"Good luck." Rogue laughed.
The door opened and Aizawa Sensei walked in. "We have come to a decision about the girl... What is that thing?"
"Hi." Olaf said. "I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs."
Aizawa looked at Elsa.
"What?"
"This is an irrational use of your Quirk... to alleviate your boredom."
"Not true." Elsa said. "He could be used to help comfort small children, and people who are scared."
Aizawa looked at Elsa before turning around. "Follow me."
The group followed Aizawa to the Infirmary.
Aizawa knocked on the door, and they heard. "Come in."
They went in to see Recovery Girl sitting at her desk with Himiko, who was wearing a hospital gown, sitting next to the girl.
"Is she awake?" Aizawa asked.
"Yes. She's awake right now."
"Martin. Test your theory."
"Right." Elsa said. "Olaf. There is a girl over there who might want a hug."
"Okay." Olaf said waddling over to Himiko. "Hi. I'm Olaf, and I like warm hugs."
Himiko looked at the... thing. "I'm Himiko, and I like stabbing people."
Eri looked at the thing standing next to her bed and didn't know what to make of it. "What is that?" She asked Himiko.
Olaf turned to Eri and waved. "Hi. I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs."
"Hello Olaf." Eri said.
"Can I have a hug?" Olaf asked.
Eri got out of bed and hugged the snowman. It was cold, but also warm at the same time.
The friends and adults saw that Eri wasn't smiling.
"What's wrong?" Rogue asked.
"She's suffered from intense emotional, Mental, and physical abuse." Recovery girl said sadly. "She's only five years old."
Anna and Elsa covered their mouths while Rogue and Aizawa felt rage in the pit of their stomachs.
"Hey." Elsa said. "My name is Elsa. "What's your name?"
Eri pushed into Himiko to try and hide.
Elsa raised her hands in a non-threatening gesture. "You don't have to be afraid. We won't hurt you. Can I show you something?"
Himiko didn't know what to do. She had no experience in this area. Last night was her first experience with positive human contact.
"Watch." Elsa said stepping on the floor and creating snow in the infirmary.
Eri looked up as snowflakes began landing on her. She looked up to see snow falling.
"Oh." Eri said in awe.
"Yay." Olaf said jumping up and down excitedly. "It's snowing!"
Eri looked up at the snow in awe, but still, she wouldn't smile.
"That didn't work." Elsa said sadly.
"Maybe Jason will be able to help when he gets here." Rogue hoped.
Jason's phone chimed after a few minutes of watching Eri and Olaf play in the snow.
GR: Where are you guys?
Rogue typed a response and sent it.
R: The Infirmary.
They watched as Jason's phone registered it was responding.
GR: Got it. On our way.
They waited for Jason and Johnny outside the Infirmary.
When Jason and Johnny got there. Rogue, Anna, and Elsa hugged Jason.
Jason returned their hugs and fist bumped Midoriya.
Aizawa came out and talked to Jason.
"How is your mother Todd?"
"Haywood." Jason corrected.
"What?"
"My last name is Haywood."
"Why are you changing your name?"
"I refuse to share the name of the man who abandoned my mother and I and has sent people after me to kill me."
Aizawa became very quiet. "I see. I have some things to discuss with the principal. I will be back."
"Where's the girl and Himiko?" Jason asked.
They led Jason into the Infirmary where he saw Eri and Olaf playing in the snow while Recovery Girl and Himiko watched.
"Himiko catch." Jason said tossing Himiko a fresh blood pack, which Himiko began drinking greedily.
"Oh, my go..." Himiko moaned in pleasure as she drank the warm, mostly fresh blood.
Midoriya went beet red at the sound, and the others looked from Jason to Himiko, back to Jason.
"What's the big idea?" Recovery Girl scolded hitting Jason in the head with her cane. "Why did you give her blood? How did you get the blood? How do you know the blood isn't..."
"Shut up granny." Himiko said before draining the blood bag and tossing it in the trash can. "I need blood to survive, and that was the best blood he's given me yet."
Everyone looked at Jason.
"Care to explain?" Recovery Girl asked.
"I have stored blood, and she needed blood yesterday. I gave her some and made a fresh bag today. I thought she might want some fresh blood. I also brought the rest of my stock." Jason said pulling three blood packs from his bag.
Recovery Girl took the blood and put it in her refrigerator. "Everyone but Jason, Eri, and Himiko... get out!" She said sternly.
When everyone left Recovery Girl glared at Jason. "What's wrong with you?"
"What do you mean?"
"Storing blood!" She yelled hitting Jason with her cane. She noticed that Jason didn't even flinch. "Why are you storing blood?"
"In case I need a blood transfusion."
Recovery Girl rubbed her temples. "Stupid boy. You could hurt yourself by doing this."
"Sorry, but this turned out to be good for Himiko."
"Be that as it may. You can't be doing such reckless things."
"I'm sorry, but..."
"But nothing!" Recovery Girl said hitting him with her cane again. "You will not store blood by yourself again."
"Does that mean that you will help me?"
"Let me talk with Himiko."
Jason walked outside.
"Haywood." Aizawa said. "Principal Nezu wants to see you."
Jason went with Aizawa Sensei to Principal Nezu's office.
When they got too Principal Nezu's office, Jason walked in.
"Ah." Principal Nezu said. "Young Haywood. I am sorry to hear that your weekend has been going poorly. Rest assured that UA will do everything in our power to keep you, your mother, Himiko, and Eri safe."
"What do you know?" Jason asked.
"Jean was able to use her Quirk to tell us Eri and Himiko's stories."
"Will that hold up in a court of law?"
"Unfortunately, no."
"Then how will that help?"
"Let me rephrase. We can help Himiko by taking her parents to court."
"Who is going to get custody of her?"
"UA would get custody of her."
"She won't like that. She has some serious trust issues."
"I don't blame her." Jean said. "She was locked in her room only coming out to go see Quirk suppressors. When she was fed it was barely more than table scraps, and the only time she was given blood was when she took it from the Quirk suppressors and counselors. That is until last night. The poor girl was practically starving."
'I should have killed her parents this morning.' Jason thought clenching his fists in rage.
"What of Young Eri-Chan?" Nezu asked.
"What she went through was torture. She was ripped apart and put back together so many times that normal pain no longer registers..."
Jean was cut off by an intense wave of killing intent.
The teachers and principal looked at Jason who was vibrating with rage.
"Young Haywood?" Nezu asked.
"Maybe it's the fact that in the last twenty-four hours I have found a girl who was being abused and neglected by her parents, found a girl who was being tortured for who knows what reason, watched my mom killed before being brought back to life and hospitalized, and found out that my sperm donor wants me dead so he can wipe away any past mistakes. But It's made me realize that someone has to stop the villains."
"That's literally the point of this Academy." Vlad King growled out.
"You don't get it!" Jason snarled. "I wasn't referring to the other heroes that will come out of this school. I'm referring to me. I will become a hero that make the Villains think twice before committing a crime. I will be the reason villains become uneasy when the sun goes down because it means I come out to play, and rest easy when the sun comes up because they think I'm not watching. I will be the reason a madman will think twice before he beats a child to near death before blowing him to hell."
Jean saw a flash of a pasty white man with a crowbar.
"This resolve..." Nezu said."...I like it. You are going to make a fine hero."
"Did you say that your father wants you dead?" Midnight asked.
"Yes."
"WHAT THE HELL!"
"He's apparently running for senate and wants to wipe the slate clear of any mistakes..."
Midnight got up and stalked towards Jason.
Jason took a step back but stopped when Midnight held her hand up.
"I'm not going to hurt you Jason." Midnight put her hand on his shoulder. "You are not a mistake."
"Um... thanks. I already knew that. My mom already told me that."
"Never forget that." Midnight said.
"Okay. I won't."
"You may go now." Nezu said.
"Thank you." Jason bowed before leaving.
"What do you think Jean?"
"I think he's been through hell, and I'm surprised he's doing this well."
"I don't know if he's really meant to be here." Vlad said. "He's starting to sound like a villain."
"Are you kidding me Vlad?" Midnight asked. "You heard what happened in the last day. If anything, he sounds more like a Hero than some of the Heroes we put out in the world."
"What makes you say that?" Nezu asked.
"Rather than killing he's restrained himself."
"Just barely." Vlad scoffed. "I say we throw him out before he becomes a full-fledged Villain."
"Do that." Aizawa said. "And he will become a full-fledged Villain."
"Yes." Jean added. "If you kick Jason out now, not only will he become a Villain, but he might become the thing that destroys hero society itself."
Vlad looked at the door.
Jean got a feeling from Vlad that she wasn't able to describe. It felt like fear, but something else.
"I think we can call it a night." Nezu said.
Everyone but Jean left.
Once everyone was gone Nezu made a pot of tea. "Did you find anything?"
"A few things."
"Start with the bad news."
"Jason thought that he should have killed Himiko's parents when he visited them this morning."
"I am glad that he didn't."
"So, am I, but don't you think it's disturbing that he went and saw them this morning?"
"What did he do?"
"He broke her father's leg and forced him to sign custody of Himiko over to his mom."
"That is serious, but you know more about Himiko's situation than I do." Nezu held his hand up. "Please do not show me. Himiko should be able to keep her dignity."
"Then you felt the Killing Intent roll off Jason."
"Yes. That was distressing."
"It was after we told him about Eri."
"What do you think it means?"
"He obviously has issues with children being hurt."
"What do you make of it?"
"I caught a flash of a pasty, pale man with a crowbar."
"Do you think...?"
"I hope not."
"That is very troubling."
"So is the fact that his dad put out a kill order on him."
"Yes. We should put a stop to that."
"Agreed."
"Do you have more?"
"Yes. I saw a glimpse of the future. It's the farthest I've seen so far."
"How far?"
"Ten years."
"Your previous record was six wasn't it?"
"Yes."
"You are making excellent progress."
"Thank you, Sensei."
"What did you see?"
"I saw the Hero Board."
"Hmm. What did it look like?"
Jean took out a piece of paper and wrote.
1) Hero Team Green Tea: Dikeru the Dragon and Uravity
2) Raven the Rogue
3) Ghost Rider the Bounty Hunter
4) Icy hot: The Half and Half Hero.
5) Red Hood the UA Knight
6) Ingenium: The Rapid Hero
7) Dyno-Might: The Explosive Hero
8) Sentinel: The Guardian Hero
9) Yuki Onna: The Ice Queen
10) Naiad: The Water Sprite
Jean handed the paper to Nezu.
Nezu looked over the paper before memorizing it and burning the paper. "Thank you, Jean."
"For what?"
"We are leaving the world in good hands."
"There is a possibility that this future won't come to pass though."
"I'm sure that we can find a way to make this reality stay."
"How Sensei?"
"We will find a way.
Jason made his way to his friends after he left Principal Nezu's office.
When he got back to them, he found them sitting out in front of the infirmary.
"Hey." He spoke.
"What did the principal want to talk to you about?" Anna asked.
"He wanted to know what happened."
"Did you tell him?" Rogue asked.
"Yeah."
"I have a question." Elsa said.
"Shoot." Jason wiped his hand across his face.
"How are you so calm? I mean if I went through what you did, I would have shut down."
"Or run away and build an ice castle in the mountains while freezing the rest of the city?" Anna poked Elsa.
"That was only the one time." Elsa said. "Plus. Mama and Papa didn't help by telling me to conceal and not feel."
"What the fuck is it with bad parents?" Jason asked rhetorically, while wiping his face.
Everyone looked at Jason like he'd grown a second head.
"What?" Jason asked a little harshly.
"You just dropped the F bomb." Anna said sheepishly.
"Oh. Sorry. I guess that this day is finally catching up with me."
"It's fine dude." Johnny said. "We understand."
"Hey Midoriya." Jason turned to him. "How's Ochako doing?"
Midoriya looked like he'd been hit by a truck. "I completely forgot to check!" He yelled pulling out his phone and texting her.
IM: Hey Uraraka. How are you doing?
The friends stood in silence until Aizawa sensei came to them. "It's late. Normally I would send you home but considering the last few days it would be completely irrational to send you home right now. So, the principal has decided that you will stay here tonight and go home tomorrow.
"Where Will we sleep?" Anna asked.
"Follow me."
The students followed Aizawa Sensei.
Aizawa Sensei took them back to the class 1A classroom where sleeping bags were on the floor.
"Sleepover!" Anna cheered.
"Call your parents and tell them what's going on. We have gym uniforms for you to use as sleep wear."
"What about toothbrushes and toothpaste?" Elsa asked.
Jason created toothbrushes. "Want to cool them off?" Jason asked Anna holding the toothbrushes towards her.
Anna put the toothbrushes in a bubble of water and watched as it began smoking.
The friends went to the respective bathrooms and changed before brushing their teeth.
After they finished, they went back to their homeroom and pushed the desks out of the way before sliding into their sleeping bags.
Saturday
Jason woke up when he heard a phone go off.
He got up and saw that it was his.
He looked at it and saw a missed call.
After a second he saw a notification for voicemail.
He opened the voicemail and listened.
Jason. This is Haruto from the hospital. Call me back.
Jason went outside the room and called Haruto back.
"Jason?" Haruto asked when he picked up the phone.
"Yeah. what's this about? How's my mom?"
"I'm sorry Jason. I really am, but your mom is dying."
Jason felt an enormous weight accumulate around him. "What?" He asked as a lump rose in his throat.
"Your mom. She's dying. I know that this must be difficult to hear, but if you want to talk to her before she passes on you need to get here. The sooner the better."
"I'm on my way."
Midoriya.
Midoriya woke up when he heard a phone go off.
He got up and looked around to see Jason look at his phone before listening to it and walking outside.
He walked to the door and listened to Jason say. "Yeah. What is it? Is it about my mom?"
Jason went quiet before saying in a voice that was polar opposite of him. "What?"
Jason went quiet before saying. "I'm on my way."
Midoriya moved to the side as the door opened and Jason walked in and changed before walking out.
"Guys." Midoriya said shaking Johnny and Rogue. "Guys wake up."
Johnny and Rogue woke up and went on high alert.
"What's wrong?" Johnny asked.
"Jason just got a call about his mom."
The two were up and ready to go in record time.
"Anna. Elsa." Johnny said. "Wake up."
"What's wrong?" Anna asked stretching.
"Jason's going to see his mom."
The sisters got up and dressed quickly before they ran to the entrance.
Once outside Johnny ran to the bike rack to get his bike, Rogue picked up Anna and Elsa an took off towards the hospital, and Midoriya powered up One for All and channeled it into his legs before running.
Johnny pulled up beside Midoriya and pulled him onto the back of his bike and changed into the Rider before taking off.
Jason
When Jason got to the hospital, he saw his friends waiting for him.
"What are you guys doing here?" He asked.
"Did you really think we were going to let you do this alone?" Johnny asked.
"I guess not."
They walked to the back entrance where Haruto was waiting.
"I see that you brought your friends." He spoke.
"They tagged along."
"Very well. This way."
They walked to Sheila's room and Haruto ushered them in.
Jason walked up to her bed and took her hand. "Mom." He spoke.
Sheila struggled to open her eyes and Jason felt pain. "Hi Jason." She wheezed. "I thought you left."
"I did, but Haruto called."
"Oh. What did he say?"
Jason looked at his mom and couldn't bring himself to tell her. "He said you were going to be okay." He lied.
"Oh. That's good. I guess I just needed to rest."
"Yeah."
"Jason. If there is one thing that I want, you to know. It's that I'm proud of you. You are always putting others above yourself, even if you are a little reckless and violent. I know that you will make an excellent Hero."
"Mom?" Jason asked. "Why does it sound like you're saying goodbye?"
"Jason. I'm a doctor. I know what's happening."
Jason broke after that. "No." He sobbed. "Please. Don't. I can't lose you again."
Sheila gave Jason's hand a slight squeeze. "Promise me something." She spoke.
Jason looked at her with tear filled eyes.
"That little girl will need you. Please become the Hero that she needs you to be. Become her knight in shining armor or her Guardian Angel. Please promise me this."
Jason looked at his mom.
"Please."
"Okay mom." He sobbed.
"Thank you." She said before she started coughing.
Jason sat her up slowly and reached for some water.
"Thank you." Sheila said after she drank some of the water.
"You're welcome." Jason said with a sniff.
Sheila hugged Jason lightly and whispered something to him before he laid her down on the bed. He sat next to her and held her hand.
As Jason's friends watched their friend say goodbye to his mom, they all started crying.
They were so overcome with their emotions that they didn't notice when Aizawa Sensei, Mic Sensei, and Midnight Sensei walked in.
"Hey there little listeners." Mic said so softly that it didn't sound like him. "Let's give him some privacy."
The Heroes in training were led out of the room and into the hallway.
They waited for Jason until they heard him howl in emotional agony, and doctors and nurses began running to the room
Midnight went into the room while Aizawa and Mic held the friends back.
Midnight walked out carrying Jason. "I had to use my Quirk." She said sadly.
The group walked out to the waiting room and sat Jason in a chair.
A nurse walked up. "Are you here to check him in?"
"No." Midnight said. "We're here to support him."
"I'm so sorry. Who was it?"
"His mother."
"Oh. I'm so sorry to hear that."
"His mom was Dr. Haywood." Rogue said.
"What?!" The nurse said startled. "No. How did she die?"
"As far as we know it was a Villain attack." Midnight said.
"Oh no. Poor kid."
"Are you new here?" Rogue asked.
"Yes. I started a little over a month ago. Dr. Haywood was always nice to me."
"We need to get Young Haywood back home." Mic said.
"Of course." The nurse said getting out of the way.
The group left the hospital sadly.
"You're at a crossroads." Efreeti said.
"What!" Jason demanded.
"You're at a crossroads. You have a choice to make."
"And what choice is that?"
"You can either choose to be the Hero your mother wants you to be, or you can choose to be the Hero this city needs. Be the Knight in shining armor, or the Black Knight. Be the Guardian Angel, or the Archangel."
"I'm not sure I follow."
"You can be the Hero who gives people hope or the Hero who keeps them safe."
"I can't be both?"
"I'm going to chalk you not understanding what I'm saying up to grief. You can either be the type of Hero who just gives people hope by throwing Villains in prison. Or you can be the type of Hero that keeps people safe by killing the Villains, and therefore making the world a safer place."
Jason thought about that. "The old me would kill Villains without a second thought."
"But?"
"But the old me has to be killed so I can keep the promise I made to my mother."
"I see. How do you plan on killing your old self?"
"By sacrificing it."
"How are you going to sacrifice yourself?"
"By cutting all ties to Jason Todd and bringing Jason Haywood into the light."
"I see. How do you plan on doing that?"
"Willis Todd has to die."
The friends and their teachers walked outside to Johnny's bike.
"Do we want to take Jason back to UA?" Rogue asked.
"I think it would be best." Johnny said. "That way he can wake up somewhere neutral.
"I'll take him." Rogue said holding out her hands.
Midnight handed Jason to Rogue. "I think you should go talk to your parents." She spoke.
That broke the dam and the friends started crying.
Rogue took off to UA with tears stinging her eyes.
Johnny got on his bike before looking at Anna and Elsa. "Can I drop you guys off at home?" He asked feeling a lump rise in his throat.
The sisters got on Johnny's bike with Anna in front of Johnny and Elsa sitting behind him with her arms around his waist.
"Can we walk you home Young Midoriya?" Midnight asked.
"I think that I need some time to think about today." Midoriya said through his tears.
"Okay." She spoke.
Midoriya began walking and muttered to himself causing the world to distort around him.
"I'll follow Rogue and Jason." Aizawa said swinging his capture weapon to get onto the roof.
"I'll follow Midoriya." Mic said.
"Then I'll make sure that the others get home safely." Midnight said.
Rogue was almost to the school when her head erupted in pain.
"AHH!" She yelled dropping Jason and covering her ears.
She realized what she had done and flew down to catch him only to be hit with the same sonic blast.
"JASON!" She yelled.
Jason was caught by a white strip of fabric and pulled towards...
"Aizawa Sensei!" Rogue yelled.
"Darkhölme!" Aizawa yelled. "Get down here and protect Haywood. I give you permission to use your Quirk to keep the two of you safe!"
Rogue flew down and stayed with Jason while Aizawa Sensei glared at the Villain erasing his Quirk.
Rogue looked up at the Villain and saw that it had bat wings and clawed feet.
She felt something move next to her and saw Jason stirring. "Just hang on sugar."
There was a click from behind her and a voice said. "Don't move or I'll blow your brains out all over Jason."
"How do you know his name?"
"I'm one of the guys sent here to kill him."
Rogue felt something brush against her foot and saw Jason's hand moving towards the guy.
"Now. Lay flat on your stomach so I can kill Jason. Then maybe I'll have a little fun before letting you... OW!" The Villain yelled as Jason cooked his flesh with a hellfire armored hand.
"You're going to tell me what I want to know." Jason said darkly.
"I was hired by your father to kill you!" The man yelled.
"Good. Now. Listen to me. You are going to find my father and kill him."
"He'll kill me!"
"I'll kill you if you don't."
"He's the one who powered up my Quirk! His Quirk allows him to power up weak Quirks! I had guns for hands before he upgraded my Quirk giving me guns for arms!"
"I don't give a damn what his Quirk does! You're going to find him and kill him, or I'll kill you!"
"No! Please! You don't understand..."
The man was cut off by Aizawa knocking him out and away from Jason's grasp.
"Damn it!" Jason yelled.
"What is it hon?" Rogue asked.
"This means my father is most likely in Japan right now."
"What do you mean?"
"How could someone overseas contact so many Villains and power up their Quirks overseas?"
"You're right." Rogue said.
"Darkhölme." Aizawa said. "Get Haywood back to UA now!"
"Right." Rogue said picking up Jason and keeping him from struggling while she flew to UA.
"You don't understand!" Jason yelled. "I have to get rid of him!"
"Hush sugar." Rogue said pinching the bundle of nerves on Jason's neck sending him into unconsciousness. "I hope I did that right." She spoke.
Johnny drove up to Anna and Elsa's house. "Are your parents' home?" He asked.
"They should be." Anna sniffed.
"Thanks for the ride Johnny." Elsa added.
"You're welcome." Johnny replied before watching them get into the house and drove off.
He was not even two hundred feet from the house when he was kicked off his bike.
He skidded to a stop and jumped up becoming the Rider.
"I don't know who the hell you are, or who you think you are, but that was the last mistake you'll ever make."
"Oh. I'm so scared of a kid. What about your little friends?" He asked pointing at the house where two more Villains were trying to get inside.
"You bastard!" Johnny yelled.
"Blaze!" A female voice yelled from the side. "You have permission to use your Quirk. I'll take care of Anna and Elsa!"
Midnight ran towards the house.
"Thanks, teach." Johnny said cracking his neck and knuckles. "But I was going to use it whether you gave me permission or not."
"Hold on a second." The Villain said backing away. His bravado leaving now that Johnny was no longer restricted by the law.
Johnny jumped at the Villain and grabbed him by the shirt. "ya know. On a normal day I would probably kick your ass and call it a day, but I'm having a really bad day. So. Look into my eyes and feel the pain you have caused the innocent."
The Villain screamed as he felt every horrible thing he'd done be inflicted on his soul.
Johnny dropped the corpse and looked over at a kid looking at him.
He pointed at the kid. "You... innocent... uh. Don't do drugs." Before walking over to his bike and grabbed it.
The bike changed into his ride and he drove up to Anna and Elsa's house.
When he got there, he saw the door broken down and he ran inside.
"Anna! Elsa! Midnight sensei!"
"We're in here!" Anna yelled.
Johnny walked in and saw two villains frozen in ice. "Nicely done."
"Thanks. Midnight Sensei helped us."
"Thank you, Midnight Sensei." Johnny said with a nod.
"You're welcome. Take Anna, Elsa, and their parents to UA. You have full permission to use your Quirk."
"Right. Let's go." Johnny said.
Anna, Elsa, and their parents ran outside. They got into their SUV, and Johnny was in the driver seat.
"Johnny?" Agnarr said.
"Trust me. I know what I'm doing." He said putting his hands on the dashboard sending hellfire into the car.
The SUV changed becoming more demonic and caught fire.
Agnarr and Iduna screamed when they saw the fire.
"Don't worry." Johnny said. "You should be safe."
"Should be?" Agnarr asked nervously.
"Yeah. If you are a sinful person then you might be burnt by the flames."
Johnny floored the SUV in reverse and spun around before he changed it to drive and smashed the accelerator to the floor.
Agnarr and Iduna were screaming as their car tore through the streets.
Johnny looked into the rear-view mirror and saw his bike following them. "That's my girl." He spoke.
Agnarr and Iduna looked back and saw Johnny's motorcycle following them and screamed again.
"Uh. Johnny." Anna said. "The cops are following us."
Agnarr and Iduna looked at each other before they both passed out.
"Hold on." Johnny said and he touched the dashboard again.
The SUV sped forward and saw that he was coming up on a railroad crossing.
"Hold on!" He yelled pushing the accelerator to the floor putting a bit more speed into the car and jumped the crossing mere seconds before the train would have hit them.
"Next stop UA." He spoke.
They turned into UA and stopped in the courtyard joined by his bike.
Johnny changed and both vehicles changed back.
"Get inside." Johnny told Anna and Elsa who ran towards the school.
Johnny picked up Agnarr and Iduna before he whistled, and the vehicles went and parked.
Midoriya was walking home while muttering to himself when his phone vibrated.
He took it out of his pocket and looked at it.
there were several notifications about Heroes, ten missed calls, and seventeen texts.
Three of the texts were from Ochako, ten were from his mom, and the other four were from his friends.
R: Look out. Villains are attacking. Get to UA ASAP.
JB: Hey. Be on the lookout for Villains. Come to UA.
A: HEY! Be careful. Come back to UA. It's not safe.
E: Izuku! We were attacked by Villains. It's not safe, get back to UA!
He also noticed that most of the calls were from his mom, two were from Ochako, and one from each of his friends.
He read Ochako's texts.
OU: Hey Deku. I'm doing okay. I'm bored. How are you doing?
OU: How is your day off?
OU: Can we talk?
He listened to Ochako's voicemail.
"Hey Deku. I guess you're pretty busy. I'm just waiting at home. It's nice and all, but it's really boring because my parents won't let me help out around the house. How are you holding up? I know it's only been a few days, but I'm really bored. How is Iida, Anna, Elsa, Jason, Johnny, and Rogue? How is Tsu, Mina, and Denki? Oh wait. You probably haven't talked to them yet. Well, maybe you talked to your friends since you are pretty close, and I'm rambling now so I'm going to say goodbye. So goodbye. Love you."
Izuku went red and listened to the next voicemail.
"Deku I'm sorry! I didn't mean to say I love you! I mean I like you and everything, but not love! Or at least not love love. I don't know what I mean. Bye."
Izuku looked at his phone sheepishly before his friend's texts finally registered in his brain, and he turned around to run only to be grabbed by his throat and lifted into the air by a bald man with red eye's.
"I'm going to kill you unless your little friend Jason comes to get you." The man said. "Then I'm going to kill Jason."
"Why do you want to kill Jason?" Izuku wheezed.
"For the money, his old man put on his head."
"LEAVE MY STUDENT ALONE!" Mic Sensei yelled at the man with his Quirk.
The man dropped Izuku and covered his ears.
"MIDORIYA I GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO USE YOUR QUIRK!"
Midoriya powered up One for All to twenty percent and punched at the man. "I WON'T LET YOU HURT JASON!" He yelled punching the man with his available strength.
"MIDORIYA! RUN BACK TO UA! I'LL TAKE CARE OF THIS GUY FOR THE POLICE!"
"But Mic Sensei!" Midoriya protested.
"DO WHAT I SAY!"
Midoriya turned around and saw three men coming up behind them. "Get away! He yelled taking in a deep breath and breathing out a gout of Violet flame shrouded in green lightning.
Two of the men were hit with his fire breath. One of them received burns while the other was hit by the lightning, paralyzing them.
The third villain was out of range and ran at Midoriya with his fists clenched and bone claws protruding from his knuckles. "Kid. I don't care about you. I'll kill you and then kill Jason. One and a half million is a lot of money."
Midoriya felt rage fill his stomach and did something he hadn't ever done before. "DIE!" He yelled charging up One for All and punching the Villain with One for All one hundred percent.
The Villain felt his ribs shatter and was sent flying.
Mic sensei had finished tying up the Villain he was fighting when he heard Midoriya yell. "DIE!" And someone grunt in pain.
He turned around and saw Midoriya holding his shoulder and sobbing angrily.
"Hey there listener. What's wrong?" He walked around and saw Midoriya holding his red arm and the hateful look in his eyes. "What happened little listener?"
"He said that he was going to kill Jason for money!" Midoriya bit out through the pain.
"Let's get you back to UA." Mic said putting his hand on Midoriya's uninjured shoulder. 'Something is very wrong here.' He thought. 'I've only known Midoriya a short time, but what I know about him, he's not one to get angered easily.'
Mic helped lead Midoriya away and called the police to tell them what happened.
OMAKE: Midnight made her way to the Martin's house by calling in a favor from a Hero with a teleporting Quirk. She made it there before them and waited to make sure that they got home safe.
What was this feeling she had that something was wrong?
She only had to wait a few minutes before Johnny pulled up. He asked if their parents were home, and Anna and Elsa said that they should be.
Johnny watched them go in and began driving off.
Midnight let out a sigh of relief but was cut off as Johnny was kicked off his bike.
Johnny activated his Quirk and was about to fight when he looked behind him.
Midnight looked towards Anna and Elsa's house to see two more villains break the door down."
"You bastard!" Johnny yelled.
"Blaze!" Midnight yelled at him. "You have permission to use your Quirk. I'll take care of Anna and Elsa!" She said before running towards the house.
Johnny said something but Midnight didn't hear it.
She ran in and saw Anna and Elsa standing in front of their parents protectively.
"Hey ass holes!" She yelled.
The villains turned to her.
"Don't you want me?" She asked folding her arms under her bust pushing it up.
The villains looked at her. "I guess we could have some fun before taking these girls hostage." One of the Villains said licking his lips.
'That's right.' Midnight thought. 'GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY STUDENTS!'
The villains came up to Midnight who rolled up her sleeves and activated her Quirk knocking them out.
"Anna! Elsa! Freeze them!"
"Torrential Downpour!" Anna yelled soaking the villains from head to toe.
"Arctic Blast!" Elsa yelled freezing the villains from the neck down.
"Combo move: Arctic Downpour!" The two yelled in unison.
Johnny came running in a few minutes later. "Anna! Elsa! Midnight sensei!" He yelled.
"We're in here!" Anna yelled back.
Johnny walked in and saw two villains frozen in ice. "Nicely done."
"Thanks. Midnight Sensei helped us."
"Thank you, Midnight Sensei." Johnny said with a nod.
"You're welcome." Midnight said. "Take Anna, Elsa, and their parents to UA. You have full permission to use your Quirk."
"Right. Let's go." Johnny said.
Anna, Elsa, and their parents ran outside.
Midnight looked at the Villains and called the police.
While she was waiting, she called Mrs. Midoriya.
"Hello?" Inko asked.
"Is this Inko Midoriya?"
"Yes. Who is this?"
"This is Midnight Sensei from UA. I am Izuku's art teacher."
"Oh my. Has Midoriya done something wrong?"
"No, no, but I need you to get ready to go. Something has come up and I need to take you to UA."
"O-okay."
"Thank you. I hope everything will be explained soon."
"You're welcome. Good-bye."
"Good-bye." Midnight said hanging up. "Now I just have to wait for the police."
