Two geniuses at work
Chihiro Pov (Yass finally)
Thank the heavens for the blazing heat today. It was the perfect disguise for my flushed face. Why am I flustered you ask? Because I was walking next to the epitome of the perfect guy! I mean, muscular, handsome and funny, kind and well-mannered to boot, who wouldn't fall for that? You'd think that I would be more composed after spending the better part of two hours squished together on a bed, but no.
I glanced to my left, where the object of my musings was walking next to me. My bag was slung over his shoulder. It had been a bit heavy and I guess he noticed, because he was quick to offer that he carry it instead. I stared at him a little longer and if I tried hard enough, I could almost fool myself into thinking that the redness on his ears and cheeks were because of me. Yeah, right, as if that would ever happen. Try as I might, I could never be as cute as some of the other girls that had their eyes on him. Maybe I should try and style my hair a bit more prettily. But then it would get in the way during practice, I thought and dismissed the notion.
We passed by a small playground, consisting of a few swings, a seesaw and a patch op grass, covered in the shade of a big sakura tree. It would always be a gorgeous pink during spring, but since it was summer, the tree was covered in deep green leaves. At the base of the tree stood a wooden bench.
'Mind if we talk there?' I asked, pointing towards the bench.
'Sure, no problem.' He answered and so we both made our way over to it and sat down.
After we did so, Iwaizumi-san handed me my bag. I placed it in my lap and opened the main compartment and fished out my own water bottle and a plastic bottle containing lemonade.
'Hiyo-chan gave me the lemonade.' I explained, looking over at the boy, 'I told her I had plenty of water myself, but she demanded I take it with me. Apparently she made it herself.'
I then held up both bottles in front of him.
'So which one do you want?' I asked him. Suddenly I flushed even more and quickly continued talking, 'O- only if you want to of course. Oh, and uh, I haven't drank from my own bottle yet, so uhm, it's not dirty or anything okay?'
He then chuckled cutely and reached over to grab my mint green water bottle.
'Don't worry, I never even once thought that anything of yours was dirty.' He said with a charming smile.
I smiled back at him and tried to convince my stomach that doing summersaults right now was totally not helpful. Like, not even a little bit. A silence fell between us as we both greedily gulped down some much needed liquids. I couldn't say it was uncomfortable or awkward, which was a relief.
Iwaizumi-san sighed contently and screwed the cap back onto the bottle, 'That hit the spot, thanks.'
'Sure thing, can't have our ace getting dehydrated.' I said with a grin.
'So, what did you want to talk about?' I asked, wanting to know what was on his mind.
'Ladies first,' he said turning to me, 'you wanted to discuss something too, right?'
I considered arguing and telling him to go first, for the sake of courtesy. But it felt stupid to do that when he had offered it already. Instead I took a few seconds to find a way to put my thoughts into words.
'Right,' I began, 'so I have a thought, a suspicion if you will and I need your take on it.'
Iwaizumi-san eyed me curiously, 'Really? I just so happen to have one too.'
I looked at him warily, 'That suspicion wouldn't happen to involve two certain best friends we have, would it?'
'It sure would.' He replied drily.
I let out a sigh of relief that I didn't know I was holding. At least I wasn't the only one who had noticed.
'Just to make sure we're on the same page about this,' Iwaizumi-san said, 'we're both talking about the weird bed situation, right?'
I hummed in agreement and took another sip of lemonade. It was really good, not too sweet nor sour. I'd ask Hiyo-chan for the recipe later.
'It's something else too, Hiyo-chan knows about Oikawa-san's favorite snacks and has a whole bunch in stock just for him.'
'For real? That's really sweet, literally and figuratively.'
I giggled at the stupid pun but then looked at him seriously.
'Do you think they're dating?'
He snorted and shook his head, 'No way, if they were I wouldn't have heard the end of it, that idiot loves to brag about his girlfriends.'
'Yeah I guess so,' I said thoughtfully, 'I also find it hard to believe Hiyo-chan wouldn't tell me if she started dating someone.'
We were both silent as we both replayed the strange scene of a few hours ago in our mind. Or at least I did, I don't know what the other was thinking about. Could be his dinner plans for all I know.
'Maybe-' The ace started, 'Maybe it's only Oikawa that likes Suzumi-chan.'
'What makes you say that?'
'Well, if I remember correctly, only Oikawa was flustered when he talked about it. Suzumi-chan wasn't really bothered.'
'Huh, maybe that's it. Then again, why wouldn't he just try and shoot his shot? I don't remember Oikawa-san ever being too shy to woo a girl.'
'Well, he might not look it, but even that guy deals with insecurities.' Iwaizumi-san said pensively. 'Or maybe he refuses to acknowledge his feelings, since it could be really awkward if they ever broke up, with the six of us growing closer.'
'I suppose so, he seems like the type to worry over that.' I went over the convo of this morning once more and noticed something else, 'You know what? Now that I think about it, Hiyo-chan was also very eager to change the subject, she didn't elaborate on anything, which is unusual for her.'
'You think she likes him too?'
'I dunno, maybe. She is incredibly oblivious when it comes to love, so maybe she hasn't even noticed her own feelings yet.'
'So basically, you're telling me they could both be in love with the other, but just haven't noticed?' He asked with a disbelieving huff.
I let out a laugh of my own and nodded, 'That's the gist of it.'
'Wow… that's really stupid.'
'It really is, isn't it?' I giggled.
Then, a thought struck me and I looked guy next to me in the eyes. His beautiful, mesmerizing brown eyes.
'Think we should help them out?' I asked excitedly.
He answered with a question of his own, 'Hm? What do you mean?'
'Well, you know, maybe they just need a little push to admit to their feelings and then boom!' I gestured enthusiastically with my hands, 'They'll confess said feelings to the other and live happily ever after. It's perfect!' It would also give me an excuse to spent more time with him, but obviously I didn't say that.
'You think it'll be that easy?' He wondered. That might sound negative, but I knew him well enough to know that the lack of immediate rejection meant he was thinking about it.
'No, not really.' I said, scratching the back of my head embarrassedly, 'But I want to try, I think they're a good fit together. If it turns out that the feelings are not mutual or nonexistent, I won't push, but I want them both to be happy.'
The ace sat next to me in silence, probably thinking things over. He then looked back at me with a devious smile on his face that made my heart race.
'Let's do it.'
Hello again lovelies~ I hope you've had the jolliest of Christmases. I had a good time, I spent it playing Scrabble and Monopoly with my family, which only led to minor bloodshed. I'm kidding, I'm kidding… or am I? No we're all fine, don't worry. Also: we've made it to almost 800 views! You absolute mad lads, thank you all so much!
I hope you all like the way this story developing, this was the one thing I thought would be quite funny to do. Both sides think they're being so smart and slick. Chi-chan's pov was a bit hard to write. Ya girl hasn't been in love for a hot second, so I hope I did her feelings justice. I also wanted to start writing a little more about insecurities and stuff, it'll pop up again in a few chapters, maybe even the next one, I don't know yet. No angst by any means though! Just an opportunity for some emotional bonding.
That's all for this note, I hope you have a nice week, hope to see you again next weekend!
