Five and Amber were going strong in their relationship as they approached their mid-twenties. Age mattered little to them now since they were in love and their days pretty much became routine for the two of them. They often spent their days scavenging for food, working on the time formulas, eating, training and sparring, having their romantic dates, and passionate love. Some days were longer than others and some days they felt even more love for each other, but no matter what they just wanted time together. Their moments were never dull and they wanted to enjoy what little pleasures of the earth were left for the two of them.
Five was off gathering food while Amber was trying to make sense of Five's work with the time formula. She tried but made little progress in figuring out the equation they needed in order to project themselves across all times and come back to the time they wanted. She wasn't stupid but Five's temporal equations were just so complex that she couldn't help but grow distracted and frustrated. Her thoughts wandered to her love for Five and a title she hoped Five would call her someday. It seemed foolish to think a word mattered as much as it did, but not hearing Five call her that after so many years did make Amber wonder if he will ever settle down. Amber glared at Dolores who was staring at her like usual and flipped her off yet again.
"Don't mouth off to me you hussy! I don't see you helping us get home. You call me useless yet we have to carry your plastic ass all over this earth just because we formed an attachment to you! Five and I have each other and don't really need you! Maybe you're the useless one!" Amber hissed.
Dolores said nothing and Amber's eyes lingered to her left ring finger. She sighed at the bare finger and she wondered if maybe even in the bleakest of worlds if Five would just humor her in a silly request. Okay it was more than a request and not really silly, but more like establishing at this point they were husband and wife. Formal weddings were long off the table to a point of it being ashes, but just having Five call her his wife on occasions wouldn't be that much of an ask would it? Amber thought about her parents and she didn't even think they were both in as much of love as she and Five were. Heck, Amber learned years after her birth that there's a possibility that her father might not even be her father. Her mother was a bit of a whore and unfaithful but stuck around for the stability and her wild pets. She's made peace that her parents were awful people and unlike them, she had a love that was true and had faith in.
She looked back at Dolores and she was still quiet. Amber sighed and knew she went a bit far. Dolores was her only friend and to speak that way to her was uncalled for. She was really mad at herself for not being much help in getting them home and frustrated that Five wasn't proposing to her.
"Sorry, that was hurtful. You're the closest thing to a gal pal I have so I shouldn't take my anger out on you. Yes, maybe I am wasting time and should let Five work on this formula. Kind of sucks I'm not nearly as smart as Five in this. I wonder if I let him down." Amber asked.
Amber started reading Extra Ordinary again that wasn't covered in time formulas and couldn't still get over what Five and his siblings went through. She often thought about how she would get along with the family if she returned with Five.
Maybe she and Vanya would get along since she seemed sweet enough. Both were abused and neglected by their fathers so that could be a good friendship match. Luther sounded a bit like a stubborn leader and probably was a meat head overall, probably she and him would often clash. Diego was a hot head and a bit obsessive with knives but she oddly thought maybe they were similar in some ways. Heck Five often called her a hot head in fights so maybe they would have a bit of a sassy repertoire. Allison seemed to be a nice person with a scary ability. She would have to meet Allison in person to see who she really was since Amber was getting imposter syndrome and deceitful vibes from what she's read. Klaus seemed like a mess and a complete wild card. He seemed fun but seeing how he could see and speak to the dead probably means he'd drowned it out in some way.
She wondered if they would accept her if they did find a way back but the only person that mattered was Five. Speaking of Five, he seemed to be gone longer than usual for a typical food hunt. Then again, why was he the only one looking and had her stay and work on the formula. If anything, she should be gathering food too and yet Five told her not today which was odd and suspicious as she looked to Dolores. He had to tell her something she thought.
"Did Five tell you anything?" Amber questioned
Dolores remained silent and Amber sighed, looking at the sky. The sun was starting to set and she wondered if Five just abandoned her. No that was a very foolish thought but if so where was he. Just then Five suddenly appeared out of nowhere, causing Amber to jump. She cursed at him and playfully slapped his arm as he chuckled and grinned at her.
"Jesus Five let me know when you're going to warp back!" she yelled.
Five chuckled but he just held her in a warm embrace.
"Sorry I was gone long but I've been working on something for you…well for us." Five spoke softly.
Amber tilted her head but just went along with him. He took her by the hand and warped them both to a lovely picnic park set up. The food was the usual fair but there were also attempts at a fancy dining experience like a very ragged candlestick, a simple but stained tablecloth, crude utensils, and metal cups. Amber felt her heart swell with warmth as the candlestick lit up. Five noticed the candle and he smiled.
"Guessing you like it Amber?"
Amber kissed his lips softly and wrapped her arms around her neck.
"I love it Five. Going all out for this date night huh?" Amber expressed.
Five nodded and he pulled out her chair, making Amber turn a light shade of pink. He looked over to Amber who was wearing a red blouse with a brown puffy jacket, cargo pants, and boots. He was decently dressed in a blazer, white dress shirt, slacks, and a green puffy down jacket. Five saw Amber as the fire to his life and no matter what she wore or did just made him a very happy man. Both of them enjoyed a lovely multi-course dinner thanks to Five's vigorous search for today. They started on canned soup, followed by canned chicken with carrots, corn, and beans, and they ended with stale cookies and crackers. Amber's fire power made the foods much more palatable to digest. Amber and Five did do some foot play under the table and if they ignored the outside world, it seemed like a normal date to them both.
"It's a shame Dolores couldn't be here but I know you and her fight about me sometimes." Five told her.
That was an understatement Amber thought but she knew they were best friends and that she only wanted her happy with Five. Why she ever felt the need to be jealous of Five and Dolores she would never fully understand since Five was her love and soulmate.
"True but I knew you weren't going to bring her tonight. She has to know we can't always be a trio." Amber expressed.
Five nodded and took her hand in his, stroking it ever so softly. He grazed the left ring finger and he couldn't help but sigh. Amber pulled her hand away and asked,
"What's wrong?"
"I wish I would be able to take you away from here at the moment but there is so much to work out. Part of me wonders if you are losing hope in me." Five explained.
Amber leaned over to kiss his lips. She stroked his beard and couldn't help but smile.
"How can I lose hope in the one thing that makes me happy and love being alive?"
Five grinned but he soon felt the two items in his pockets feeling a bit heavy. He rubbed the back of his head and his brown eyes glanced over her. He had been thinking about this for the last two years and he couldn't chicken out now. Five knew Amber was a romantic and he felt that this would make her the happiest woman in this world.
"You make me happy too Amber. I know we can't really have a truly normal life…but I want you to feel that you can always rely on me."
He rose from his chair and went to Amber's side. Five got down on his knee and pulled out a clunky blackish gold iron ring.
"F-Five…is that?"
He nodded.
"I have another ring like it in my pocket, matching of sorts. No ring I found could ever be good enough and I've been looking for years. So, I decided to take a chance and make these for us out of some melted down jewelry and scrap metal to make these rings. It's the best I can do for now but I hope you love the meaning of it rather than the looks. This will do for now until we get out of this shit hole, but Amber Auclair will you take this ring and always be my lovely wife. Through the good and the bad for as long as we have in this world, will you walk with me and always love me until our last of days."
Amber started to cry and just nodded her head. Five seemed stunned but he slipped the ring on Amber's finger. He got up from his knee and Amber got up from her seat. She slid her hand into his pocket to get the other ring and slid it on Five's finger.
"Five Hargreaves, I will love for you to be my husband. My mistake soon turned into a blessing since the fires of my soul brought me to you. Life's been hard for us both, but our love and trust kept us strong. On this day and hereafter, I will be Amber Hargreaves, your wife, your partner, your soulmate until our last of days to love with all my heart forever."
Five and her embraced one another and share their first kiss as a married couple of sorts. Though the world was still in ruins, both of them felt even more complete then before.
"You were worried?" Amber asked.
"Somewhat but Dolores told me you were thinking of wanting us to settle down or make it official in namesake."
Amber chuckled and rolled her eyes.
"I can't tell that bitch anything can't I?"
"Same here, surprised she didn't rat me out that I was spending the last few days making these rings for us. Guess she wants us happy." Five mentioned as he rested his arms above Amber's ass.
Amber smiled and kissed Five again.
"Well my husband, what should we do for the rest of the evening?" Amber asked.
Five simply chuckled as he glanced over at her and felt himself getting aroused.
"Well we are married in a sense right love, so maybe we can…you know."
Amber chuckled and smirked as she pressed her body against his.
"Oh, I know Five. Is that part of your set up too?"
Five grinned.
"I have a set up for us my darling wife."
Amber kissed his lips and added,
"I'll have us make love under some fireworks. This is a moment that needs to be celebrated at the highest caliber my dear husband."
Amber motioned her hands and soon enough fireworks were erupting in the sky. Fire always marveled at Amber's work with fire and now he was going to enjoy them even more as he and Amber spent another night together. She took his name and is her lovely wife. Amber's dreams were also realized as Five wanted to be her husband and she wasn't just a release for him.
"I love you Five Hargreaves."
"And I love you Amber Hargreaves." He grinned.
It would be a name that they now both share for as long as they both shall live. Hope was alive in them but how long would their lives together truly be. All they knew is that they were a couple tied by love and nothing will change that.
