Hello everyone!
This will be the very last chapter of Morning Rays before we move on to Dawn Sun!
To those who have stuck with this story, thank you so much! It means a lot to me :D
Without further ado, here we go!
. . .
Darkness.
That was all Moonsong could see.
Endless mush.
There seemed to be no one else there.
But she could feel eyes in the darkness staring at her, watching her.
She shivered, feeling the damp cold seeping through her pelt and trickling over her skin.
She glanced around, trying to find a way out of this dark place. She timidly stepped forward, beginning to slowly walk, feeling the ground in front of her with her paws before setting them down firmly.
Whispers came from all directions, one voice rising above them all.
"Welcome to the End Zone, Moonsong."
Moonsong stepped backward, terrified.
"W-Who are you?" she stuttered, looking around for the source of the voice.
A pair of eyes gleamed in the shadows, moving closer to her, Moonsong instinctively stepped backward, turning to run, but another pair of eyes were in front of her. Moonsong trembled, crouching down as the eyes crept closer and closer.
"W-What am I d-doing here?" she stuttered, flicking her gaze between the two. "Why is this c-called the End Zone?"
A low chuckle resonated from the eyes on the right.
"Because this is the last place any cat can wander."
"What do you mean?"
The pair on the left began to speak.
"You have either died twice or have been banished from another realm to come here."
Moonsong's heart almost stopped.
"B-banished?"
Have I been banished from the real world? Moonsong thought. As if reading her mind, one of the eyes moved in a nodding motion.
"Of course. Some cat took over your body while you were in a spirit realm. If you were in the living world when your body was taken over, you would have been sent to the Dark Forest or StarClan."
Moonsong shook, fear creeping through her body. "W-What about my Clan? My friends? My family?" She began to pace back and forth. "They'll be so worried, and I didn't even get t-" One of the pairs of eyes cut her off.
"Your body has been taken. Only cats with great power can do that, or cats used to living as a ghost. You, however, have just felt what it's like to be dead."
"Is there a way to go back?" she asked, staring desperately at the eyes.
The eyes glanced at each other, seeming to communicate with each other for a moment without words, before turning back to Moonsong.
"There is one way..." the first one said.
Moonsong nodded. "Then show me."
The second pair said, "It will take time and training. But in the end, I think that you'll be able to live again."
"I'll do whatever it takes.
. . .
Sorry for such a short epilogue!
