Chapter 12 - Awaited Reprisal

"Indeed, and I'm going to do the same to you, murderer of my friend, Kalawarner." Ryūno spat out with venom.

"What the hell are you talking about?!" Kalawarner asked, backing up a bit, along with Raynare.

"Tch, of course, you wouldn't remember. That's not your style, is it? Remorse? You enjoy killing." Ryūno continued as Kalawarner was readying herself for battle.

"Which means...we have something in common. 'Course, I enjoy killing Fallen Angels. But, it's a start, I'm sure we can still find some middle ground."

...

"Oh yeah, that's right. While we're on that subject, let me ask...You're okay with me ripping off your wings, right? I mean, as long as they're all intact, you can always get more, isn't that correct? I'm talking about all of your wings, Kalawarner. Don't want you dead just yet...Timing wouldn't work in this case..." A big part of Ryūno's fighting style was intimidation, especially against lesser opponents. As he said that, she had enough, and threw a light spear at Ryūno's head, he cocked it to the left so that the spear would miss.

"Not bad, you almost made me lose my composure." Kalawarner growled at that and summoned more light spears to throw at Ryūno. Ryūno summoned his sacred gear, and took out the talisman inside of it, creating a small barrier to block the light spears.

"Keep striking, it only makes the barrier stronger." Essentially, his absorption magic was like a sponge. Sure, it could take quite the beating, but with enough force, even it will break. Of course, low-tier bottom feeder fallen angels couldn't do anything to it.

"Kalawarner! We have to run away! I can't fight, and he's too powerful for even you, let's go while we have the chance!" Raynare pleaded, she was in no position to fight, especially not here. And even if she was fully recovered, she'd stand no chance like she did back then.

"No way! No petty human dares disrespect us!"

"You know, you should probably listen to your friend, these couple minutes could be your very last." Ryūno said.

"And who the hell are you to threaten us?" Kalawarner asked.

"I am The Dragon Emperor, you pathetic inbreds."

"The Dragon Emperor?" Raynare wondered.

"Impossible! The only dragon emperors we know of are The Vanishing Dragon and The Welsh Dragon."

"I'm the holder of the Forbidden sacred gear, that's why I refer myself to such a title. Now watch, ravens, as I show you what true despair and helplessness means. Doragonzu! Send them to Chaosrealm!"

"Right away." As Doragonzu said that, Ryūno took his amulet and used a spell to create an orange teleportation Circle underneath Kalawarner and Raynare, teleporting them all to another realm. Normally, he'd use lightning, but they were all in a wider space, so he had to resort to a slower teleportation spell. That being said, the fallen angel dua had nowhere to flee, so they couldn't escape.

Once Kalawarner and Raynare looked around, they saw a place that they never could've imagine to end up in.

A purgatory like place, filled with green toxic lava and utterly destroyed lands. The air felt toxic and the temperature was unbearable.

"Welcome, to my training grounds, but you may now it as The Chaosrealm." Ryūno introduced.

"W-why'd you send us here?!" Kalawarner asked.

"Is it not obvious? To kill you both." Ryūno asked. Kalawarner and Raynare paled at that.

"Hmph, come on Raynare, let's beat him and get the hell out of here!" Kalawarner said as she took out a light spear.

"You know what? I don't think I'll use my sacred gear for this fight. No need to waste stamina on you, instead..." Ryūno summoned two holy blades.

"Where'd you get those?!" Raynare asked.

"Two holy blades, crafted from a fragment of Excalibur, courtesy of Michael."

"Michael gave you those?!" Kalawarner yelled.

"He only gave me the fragment of Excalibur, I forged them into two blades. It took quite a bit of time to convince him, but eventually, he let up. Now then, say goodnight." Ryūno held up the two blades in the air, ready to charge towards them both.

"Fine, Raynare!"

"Y-yes." They both drew their light spears. Kalawarner threw one of them at Ryūno, which he simply blocked with one of his blades. He grinded the blades against one another and then charged towards them both.

Kalawarner luckily managed to dodge in time, but Raynare didn't fare so well. Due to her wounds, she was now slower in combat, so Ryūno was able to make a small cut on the thigh of her leg, which she winced in pain.

"Tch, stay away from her!" Kalawarner yelled.

"You're right, after all, I'm not primarily here for her..." Ryūno said as he made a fireball in his hand, and threw it towards Kalawarner.

"I don't understand, why do you attack us? We did nothing to you!" Kalawarner exclaimed, but even she had the feeling that she was wrong...

"Quite the contrary, fallen. You've done quite a lot to me."

"Like what?!"

"I told you already, you murdered my friend." Ryūno said narrowing his eyes, summoning more fire and throwing it towards Kalawarner, which she used a magic circle to shield herself from.

"Kalawarner...what is this guy talking about?" Raynare asked, crouched on the ground holding her side.

"I have no idea, which is why I'm asking!" Ryūno sighed at that.

"Then let me give you a reminder, a year ago...you murdered a boy named Kido Mari, right? He was from Kyoto." Kalawarner was surprised at that, she did remember killing someone with a name like that.

"I...don't remember clearly."

"You don't remember?!" Ryūno shouted whilst jumping up to Kalawarners level, before kicking her back down, landing on the ground with her.

"A year ago, Kido Mari was a person who possessed a twice critical sacred gear. You, along with eight fallen angels, murdered him in cold blood, because you deemed him a threat!" Ryūno yelled out with rage.

Suddenly, Kalawarner remembered...

"I must say, I enjoyed our time out. Before I end your existence, Kido, do you have anything to say before you die? I'll grant you this much." Kalawarner asked with a smirk on her face.

"I-I thought you...cared about me. Why...why did you betray me?!" Kido cried out with tears on his face. Kalawarner just simply laughed at him.

"I'm sorry, but master Azazel declared you were a threat to us, so we were ordered to watch over you, however, that isn't my style, so I decided to kill you off instead. Thanks for the date, though, I enjoyed it." She said getting ready to finish him off with a light spear.

"Y-you won't get away with this, my friend will come after you...Damn you."

"Ha! Some nobody doesn't stand a chance against us, though I welcome him to try. Farewell, Kido, I hope we never meet in Hades." She said as she stabbed his chest with a light spear, finishing him off for good.

Suddenly, Kalawarner started laughing, much to Raynare's and Ryūno's surprise.

"Ah, I get it now! You're him! How amusing, that pathetic human he warned me about! I must say, the disappointment on his face was unlike anything I've seen before, I enjoyed seeing his tears as he died a slow death. The same thing will happen to you, wretched scum!" Kalawarner said.

"K-Kalawarner, do you have any idea what you've done..." Raynare whispered as all silence broke out.

...

Ryūno broke into complete laughter as well, scaring both of the fallen angels at the odd sight.

"So you do remember! How charming! And for knowing that I am Kido's brother, avenger and not running away at the sight of me, is quite brave! As a reward, I'll give you an excruciating and exquisite death using my attack of darkness!" Ryūno said with a smile on his face, de-summoning both of the blades in his hands, and activating his sacred gear.

"W-what's he doing?" Raynare asked out of fear.

"Nothing I can't handle." Kalawarner retorted overconfidently. It seems overheated pride wasn't just a human flaw.

"Darkness attack..." Ryūno summoned two purple spheres of energy.

"Dragon Emperor: Soaring Destruction!" He combined them together, casting a beam into the air, after a few seconds, lightning strikes down onto the ground, and from it, arose a dragon. Kalawarner flinched at this, as the dragon looked at her, before descending to her really quickly, throwing a light spear at the dragon, before finding out that it simply went through it.

"End her miserable existence." As Ryūno said that, the dragon inched closer to her, she just stood there, fear took over her completely, her body felt numb, before the dragon turned into an energy blast, her scream could be heard as the blast hit her, and then a nearby mountain. No trace of her was left.

"Kalawarner!" Raynare cried out to her friend.

"Good riddance, pathetic swine." Ryūno proceeded to walk over to Raynare, seeing her scared.

"Well, I did spare you once, but...after hearing that sorry story, I'm done with you." Said Ryūno, getting ready to absorb her power, Raynare closed her eyes, crying, when suddenly...

A blue light enveloped Raynare, making her disappear.

"...What just happened?"

"It was likely forced teleportation." Ryūno gritted his teeth, but then later calmed down.

"Doesn't matter, I got what I came for anyway." Said Ryūno, looking at the hole he made in the mountain from using his special move. There was a strange feeling around him, even though he had been looking for Kalawarner for some time, once he finished her off, it didn't feel...satisfying. He more so felt an emptiness inside of his soul that still lingered. He didn't have any more goals now...maybe the cat could give him one.

"Let's head home, Doragonzu." Ryūno said, as red lightning hit him, he teleported back near the church.

"Good to be back home." Ryūno looked around the church to see if there any more fallen angels.

"Guess that's that then." He started walking back towards his house, no point in teleporting when you can also get some exercise in.

Scene change, Ryūno's residence, 6:35 PM GST

Ryūno walked into his house, to only find that Kuroka isn't there anymore, he hummed.

"Well, this is as good a time as any to visit my mindscape." As he said that, Ryūno sat down in the middle of the living room, in a cross-legged position, both of his hands on his legs. He then proceeded to enter his mindscape, along with Doragonzu.

It was dark, silent, ominous...

Ryūno was standing, waiting for Doragonzu.

He then later appeared, flying down near Ryūno.

"Greetings, partner. We haven't been here in a while."

"Yeah, I guess we haven't..." Ryūno said whilst looking down a bit.

"Speak your mind, Ryūno. I can tell something is troubling you." Ryūno was a bit surprised at this.

"What? You think I can't recognize when you're feeling down, or when you're worried about something? We are one and the same, what you feel, I feel."

"Well...It's about Kuroka."

"Ah, the cat? I can tell you've grown quite attached to her, a surprise to even me. What of it?"

"Well, it's...she's a stray. Am I even in the right by being with her?"

"Partner, it matters not that she's a stray. You like her, despite her current status as a criminal. So what? You find her attractive, so you like being in her company. There is nothing wrong with that, and be damned those who say otherwise." Doragonzu could see a smile creeping up on Ryūno's face, before quickly disappearing.

"I need to find a way to free her of all charges, Doragonzu. She's clearly not the person that everyone makes her out to be, but what makes it hard is the fact that she's also with the Khaos Brigade, a terrorist group. So even if I clear her name, she's still going to be considered a terrorist, and a traitor to devils."

"Maybe you should try to get her to leave the Khaos Brigade?"

"...Maybe. The thing that I'm worried about, if she'll want to, or if she even can..."

"Listen, the main reason she even joined it, is because she sought a home, safety, affection. And you've given her all of that, I'm more than confident that if you offer, she'll accept to be by your side. It'll take time, but eventually, she'll agree."

"Heh, thanks, I think I needed that more than anything." In hindsight, whilst being confident, arrogant, he wasn't very good at dealing with emotions. He was also new to this thing called 'love'. Romance was an entirely obscure concept to him.

"Anytime, my friend." With those words, Ryūno stop meditating and left his mindscape. He sighed.

"...I'm gonna have to visit Sirzechs' office tomorrow, what on earth could a person like him, want something from a person like me? Then again, he is a devil, they always have some ulterior motive..." Ryūno said to no one in particular.

Ryūno proceeded to take one of his spellbooks, and revise magic. As well as another particular ability he took interest in...

Ryūno was still sitting on his couch, reading a book and drinking tea, when he got a call on his phone.

"It's an unknown number, I swear to all that is holy if this is a prank call..."

Ryūno picked up and reluctantly answered the phone.

"Hey, is this...Ryūno?" He recognized that voice...that annoying, confident, blissful, voice...

"...Rias, is that you? How did you get my phone number?"

"Oh, definitely you. As for your phone number, thank Sona for that one."

'I can't even swear to God because that asshole is dead...'

"Alright, what do you need? Time is precious, so spill it."

"I was actually wondering, can you stop by the club, we've detected fallen angel activity near the church, just barely hours ago, we could use your help." Ulterior motives it was indeed...

"Oh, what a coincidence. But I already dealt with them, so no. If that's all I'm gonna go back to reading my book, thank you."

"Oh..well, goodb-" Ryūno already hung up.

"Goodness, I'm never gonna hear the end of her. I just hope her brother isn't like her in terms of socializing."

"She's not that bad."

"I thought you weren't fond of her?"

"I am not! When I was with a host that had turned into a devil later, she stopped at nothing but to try and capture him. However, my hate is my own, that doesn't have to be the same with you. You won't build a harem with an distant attitude like that, partner."

"I don't even want a harem, you know this. What is it with you dragons and harems? All it is, is a bunch of concubines that have gathered together for the sake of cheap pleasure."

"Having multiple lovers is thrilling. Try it! In the past, a human has actually instructed me in human psychology and body language, I have no idea why I listened, but it was intriguing...and from what I gathered there, I think it'd suit someone like you, despite what happened a few years ago...Even so, the bigger chance you have of getting an offspring - the better. Also, it may get rid of your untrusting attitude towards others."

"Whatever you say..." Ryūno continued reading his book, after reading a while, he sensed a teleportation circle. That shouldn't have been possible, at this other house no less...Hold on, that Gray hair and outfit...could it be?

"...Lucifuge?"
