Previously- '"Your… my brother.. it.. was worth… it.." she placed a hand against his cheek when her eyes drifted closed
"SOMEBODY HELP US!" he yelled when her hand dropped to the floor
"HELP!!" he screamed again, looking down at his blood covered hands he could see the colour beginning to slowly drain from her face at each attempt of taking a breath.'
"What have we got?" the doctor ran up as they rushed through the entrance
"Kate McGregor, Thirty-five-year-old woman, single gunshot wound to the chest," they wheeled the bed through the Emergency room
"Anything else?"
"According to the brother she's three weeks Pregnant"
"Any sign the baby is in distress?" she asked checking her vitals
"We connected her to a machine in the Ambulance but were unable to detect a heartbeat"
"Do we know what happened?" the doctor asked using her stethoscope to check her breathing
"Apparently some sort of a scuffle when we arrived there was another man dead with a gunshot wound to the gut"
"Where does a woman like this get a gun from?" she looked at him confused
"Ah she's Navy" he cleared his throat
"Right we need to get her into emergency surgery, her breathing is shallow and her heartbeat is weak" the doctor waved over the nurses who wheeled the bed towards surgery
"The brother, has a gunshot wound to the arm but nothing to serious"
"Okay do we know where he is?"
"Talking with the Officers" he pointed to Aden
"That's John" she nodded making her way over
"I'll leave you too it" he signed off on the paperwork with a nurse,
"Excuse me your Kate McGregor's brother?" she interrupted
"Ah yes Ma'am" he nodded hissing slightly as the cuffs pulled on his shoulder
"Does she have a next of kin, any other family we can call?"
"Her husband would most likely be her next of kin" he nodded
"Right can we have his name?" the officer stepped forward
"Mike Flynn"
"Can we take those cuffs off I need to assess his shoulder" she motioned to the officer
"Ah…"
"Why is this man in cuffs anyway?" she huffed
"He's admitted to being apart of the shooting" the officer reluctantly took the cuffs off
'CODE BLUE IN SURGERY, CODE BLUE NEED IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE' echoed through the loud speakers
"Jen can you attend to this man" she called over a fellow doctor before running down the hall towards surgery
"Come this way Sir" Jen motioned towards a room, the officer following behind while the other got in contact with station.

Pulling on his shirt Mike made his way down the hall
"Kate?" he looked around as he entered the kitchen
"Kate?" he repeated stopping when he spotted a note on the kitchen bench with her wedding rings sitting on top, moving them aside he picked up the note and slowly opened it
'Mike, writing this note is a lot harder then I thought it would be you have to know this isn't how I wanted things to go.
You are the love of my life and I need you to know that I never regret everything we went through to get to this point; this is not your fault so please don't blame yourself, but you were right about things it's not important as to what those things are but I can't stay not here not with you.
Mike you'll never understand how much I've enjoyed our lives together if something happens just know it was not your fault and I want you to move on get remarried, have some kids fall in love because even if we're not here you deserve to find love again.
I love you so much Sailor so much that it even pains me to be writing this just understand I did what I had to, Kate Xx'
looking down at the note confused he didn't notice the knocking at the door before it opened and closed
"Mike?" his voice called down the hallway
"Mike?" he tried again this time having entered the kitchen
"Swain?" Mike cleared his throat
"I did call, and knock"
"Wha.. what are you doing here?" Mike held tightly onto the note
"Is Kate here?" he looked at him confused
"Ah no…" Mike passed him the note
"What's this?"
"She left… she left me" Mike brushed his hands through his hair
"I knew she was up to something but this…" Swain placed the note down
"You knew? God Swain! This is my wife we're talking about don't you think I had a right to know?"
"She begged me not to tell you, she said it was to keep you safe"
"Keep me safe? I don't understand"
"She asked me to do some digging into Aden for her" Swain sighed
"Digging? What kind of digging?" Mike crossed his arms in annoyance
"I don't…"
"If she's in some kind of trouble Swain I need to know"
"She was with Aden before meeting you at the docks now I don't exactly know the details but somebody showed up and she overheard a conversation between them, Sir I don't know what was said but it completely shook her she was acting like there was no coming back from this" Swain looked at him sadly
"This information you found, tell me about it"
"Sir I don't…"
"Chris… She is my wife" Mike teared up
"Aden is a contract killer…"
"What?"
"He was sent here to kill Kate, apparently her Father was a wealthy man in England, and she was entitled to inherit his estate"
"What do you mean was?" Mike held back the tears
"Before arriving in Australia, Kate's father was found dead in his house gunshot to the head" Swain watched Mike step back in horror
"Oh god…" his hand flew across his mouth
"Aden was sent here to stop Kate from inheriting her Father's estate to stop her from becoming Lady McGregor.."
"Kate…" Mike whispered as the tears fell down his cheeks
"Sir I'm.. I'm so sorry" Swain reached out
"No… I just, you need to go" Mike held a hand up
"What?"
"I just really need to be alone" Mike shook his head when a knock at the door interrupted them,
cautiously making his way up the hall and pulling open the door Mikes gut dropped when he spotted two Police Officer's standing on the other side
"Mr Flynn?" one of the men spoke
"Yes"
"Are you the husband of… Katerina McGregor?" he looked down at his notepad
"Kate… her names Kate" Mike looked at them nervously
"It's our deepest condolences that we must inform you the body of a Kate McGregor was recovered and taken to Cairns hospital twenty minutes ago" he replied when Swain made his way up the hall
"Is she?" he struggled through the tears
"She's in a critical condition brought in with a single gunshot to the chest perforating her in the heart, she's currently in surgery as her next of kin we were told to inform you in person"
"I…"
"Would you like us to give you a lift to the hospital?"
"I don…"
"I will take him" Swain placed his hand on Mike's back
"And you are?" the officer asked
"A friend, but I'm also his coxswain on board"
"Very well, when your up to it Mr Flynn we'll need to ask you a few questions about your wife's movements"
"I need to see my wife first" Mike struggled
"Of course, we're sorry Mr Flynn" the officers moved back towards their car
"Mike?" Swain looked at him confused when he stood there frozen
"Get out of my house…" he moved aside
"What?"
"Kate is lying in that operating theatre because you keep this a secret"
"Mike… this is not my fault"
"Oh really? Then who should I blame you tell me that" Mike snapped
"Let me drive you to the hospital" Swain replied hopeful
"I do not need help from you, get out of my house" he turned and made his way back to the kitchen,
picking up her rings he ran his thumb across the small engraving on the inside of their anniversary date the tears he was holding back now falling taking one last look at the note she'd left him Mike picked up his car keys and walked back up the hall
"I thought I told you to leave" he grumbled
"You did, you can hate me all you want but your my friend and I'm not going anywhere not while your like this" Swain took the keys from Mike
"Fine" Mike sighed placing Kate's rings in his pocket and pushing past him towards the car.
Entering the hospital 30 minutes later Mike stopped at the desk
"Yes may I help you?" the receptionist asked
"My wife, Kate McGregor she was brought in through ambulance"
"Ah yes, if you take a seat the doctor will be with you shortly" she motioned,
reluctantly moving to sit down Mike paused when he spotted Aden walking out of a room with his arm in a sling
"You!" he yelled walking towards him
"Mike I…" he began saying
"You did this"
"No! I didn't"
"She is your sister and you came here to kill her!" Mike yelled
"Mike just…" Swain tried to pull him back
"If she dies you will be responsible, you were going to kill your sister, your unborn nephew or niece!"
"I did not shoot her, I tried to stop him I turned myself in" he held his free hand up between them
"So what, that's supposed to make me feel better? Kate is lying in that surgery room with a bullet in the heart!"
"Mike calm down" Swain looked around the people watching
"You're a coward!" Mike jumped forward punching him in the nose
"Oi!" the officer jumped from around the corner
"Get off him" Swain tried to pull Mike back as he laid into Aden
"Mr Flynn!" the officer pulled him back holding his arm around Mike's neck in restraint
"Get off me!"
"Calm down" he held Mike tighter
'CODE BLUE IN SURGERY, CODE BLUE' echoed through the hall
"Kate… My wife, she's my wife" Mike broke down in tears
"Aden you okay?" Swain asked seeing him holding his nose
"I'm fine, Mike I…"
"Is everything alright here?" the doctor from earlier approached them
"Can I let you go?" the officer asked Mike who nodded slowly
"Are you Mr Flynn?" she motioned to Mike
"Yes" he moved away from the officer
"Mr Flynn, your wife is still in surgery it seems the bullet has lodged itself near her heart and unfortunately your wife has gone into Cardiac arrest several times since going into surgery fifty minutes ago"
"God…" Mike ran his hands through his hair
"The surgeon is doing everything he can to save Kate and the baby but due to the extensive trauma she's gone through it's a possibility she could loose it"
"No…" Mike dropped to his knee's
"I need to get back to the surgery room but I thought you deserved to be updated"
"Thank you Doc, I'll look after him" Swain nodded moving to kneel next to Mike he placed a hand on his arm jumping in surprise when Mike shifted to hug him the tears falling like a waterfall,
the officers watching the scene unfold before they escorted Aden towards the exit.
