Chapter Twelve
Kelly POV
Mom's orders were to get the boys to warm up in the morning. Do a practice run of some of their more popular songs. Once they had gotten it down, I was to film them do a perfect dance sequence to the first one on her list; Fake Love. It was one of my favorites. Filming them provided proof to any potential buyers that they were in fact the real deal. I had woken up at the first light of dawn and headed down to the small building in the center of the yard. The weather was pretty nasty today. Rain fell lightly and the sky was still dark with clouds and fog. It was a chilly 44 degrees out.
I reached out to take the cold steel door knob of the building. I quietly stepped into the space and found that it was pretty cold inside as well. There was no air conditioning unit in here. I moved up to the glass and leaned my forehead against it, shielding the sides of my face with my hands to see better. In the dim space, I saw all seven boys huddled together in the farthest corner of the room. They were right up against each other to save warmth. Their clothes didn't exactly provide much protection from the elements. Jin, Suga, and J-Hope all had jeans and a thin T-shirt, while the others had jeans and a coat on, but a thin one. I reached over and flicked on the overhead light. It lit up both my space and theirs. RM immediately jumped awake and looked around.
"Hey, get up." He muttered to Jin, who sluggishly sat up. I was still rusty on my Korean, but I had the basics down to understand them. One by one they all woke up, but none made a move to stand. They couldn't see me through this one way mirror. I leaned closer to the microphone in front of me.
"Good morning." I started out, my voice sounding extra loud in the small room. J-Hope jumped and so did Jimin. "I'm glad you all slept well. Today will be a busy one."
"Is this Kelly?" RM asked carefully and I grinned. He leaned back to translate what I had said to the others.
"Yes, good job. Now, everyone stand." I ordered and RM slowly got to his feet, motioning for everyone else to follow. Jungkook looked nervous but Suga still had his stoic calm face. "I'm going to give you a song, and you will dance to it. Any mishaps or mistakes and the process will be restarted."
"And if we refuse?" RM asked calmly.
"I'm sure you wouldn't want to meet our men again." I stifled a giggle. RM looked to the others and explained. Jin nodded slowly, and Taehyung nervously shifted his weight foot to foot. "Get ready. We'll start in 5." I wanted to give them some time to wake up more, as well as give me the opportunity to find the first song. I connected my phone into the speakers.
Suga looked to be shivering but also trying to hide it. It was pretty cold in here, especially without a coat. His jeans had tears in the knees too. I'm sure running around the room would help warm everyone up. They all stood in the center of the room talking quietly to each other. I hit play on the first song; DNA. As soon as the whistling intro started, everyone quickly moved into their correct positions.
Everyone stood with their right shoulder facing the glass wall, while Jungkook started off in the center. So far everything was rather smooth, with everyone getting their footwork in the right places and stomping in unison. Their shoes squeaked on the linoleum flooring. Everyone except Taehyung dispersed and he was left to do his part alone. It was a little jumpy and slow, but I'd give him some slack this time. They would be smoother later on. J-Hope ran in and grabbed his hand, bouncing off each other. Taehyung ran off, and was replaced by RM, Suga, Jin, and Jimin. They performed rather choppy again but seemed to still be in tune with each other. Taehyung and Jungkook reached for each other and then spun away in their own duet. The rest of them, with Jimin leading down the center, ran to join them.
The first chorus lined up pretty ok, but was still slow. I was sure it was either nerves, the cold, or maybe both. J-Hope and Jungkook slid on the ground at the very front then hopped back up to match the others. Everyone crouched down while Jimin passed off to Suga in the center. I leaned back with my arms crossed, enjoying the show so far. I'd definitely need to pressure them more. They formed their long line with RM in the center, and half turned back around to march past him. Jungkook moved down the middle and pushed out RM and J-Hope for their turns. Suga and Jungkook jumped forward and crouched just like they were supposed to. Jin moved aside and walked by as the others rearranged themselves. He then moved quickly backwards and the others had formed a circle around him, moving as one. A quick jump and they launched into the second chorus.
I smiled as I remembered the next bit. They slowly moved in on each other, forming a group around Jungkook. They one by one crouched, and locked hands intertwined with one another. Jungkook started the wave motion and it moved through them fluidly. Breaking apart, they moved to the sides to let Taehyung move forward, again repositioning in the background. Jin stood in the back, and Taehyung stood to move in front of him. He was followed in time by Jungkook and then Jimin in front, who reached out. I smiled as he did his classic shake and then stepped back into the last chorus. The last bits of the choreography had them line up and in unison kick high. They weren't as high as their normal sessions, but I'd let it slide for now. They lined up once again with J-Hope in front and he turned his back as the song slowly ended.
The room was quiet now, all except for their heavy breathing. DNA was one of their more rigorous choreographies and required a lot of energy to perform correctly. They slowly moved out of formation. Jimin leaned against a wall, Jungkook sat right down, and RM looked over everyone. I was impressed at their capabilities. I stood with my arms crossed. I watched them as they slowly moved around, catching their breath. I didn't say anything as I scrolled through the next songs available. Several minutes went by and once I figured they had enough of their breath back, I began the next song. Save Me was an oldie but the moment it began, they filed into place. I leaned back and enjoyed the performance.
It had been a little over two hours. The time had flown by, I was having so much fun just watching and observing these boys move together. However, the signs of fatigue were evident the longer they went. I had played numerous songs, some even repeated, and at the end of every one the boys sat down and tried to breathe. The last two I had played were choppy, mistimed, and had several mistakes. They were exhausted. The last song had just ended and they had barely been able to make it through it. Idol was particularly demanding, and most of them lay on their backs panting now. Those who had a coat had removed it more than an hour ago. Jungkook was still standing and he paced around the room, a pained expression on his face. His hands were shaking and he occasionally tried to shake them out.
"Nice job so far guys, I'll give you a little while. But we'll take it from the top this evening." I said into the microphone and RM looked over at Jin. He said something quietly to him and Jin sighed, running his hands through his hair. I smirked and unplugged my phone. I'd return in a little while, I couldn't burn them completely out the first day.
Yoongi POV
I lay on the ground of the small room. Everything was super fuzzy and distant. I felt light headed and my heart felt like it was about to pound out of my chest. My breathing was ragged and shallow as I tried to catch it. Everyone else was in a similar state of exhaustion. Taehyung was coughing as he leaned a hand against the wall, the other around his side. Jimin was on his back a little ways away, his chest heaving as he panted hard. Jungkook was pacing around with shaky hands, also desperately out of breath. Namjoon and Hobi were sitting next to each other, slowly regaining their composure. Jin was on his knees, looking over us as he tried to breathe.
"Is everyone ok?" Namjoon's voice was harsh but still relatively calm. I looked over at him, using his voice as an anchor. "Jungkook, sit down."
"She said she'll be back?" Jimin panted, rolling over onto his side. He pushed a hand into the ground to try and sit up but his arms were shaky and could barely support him. I forced myself to sit up, a wave of nausea coming over me. I heard Taehyung dry heaving in the corner of the room and I tried to stand.
"Apparently." Hobi said dryly. His normal happy appearance was gone and he seemed very distant. I finally managed to get my feet under me and I shakily walked over to Taehyung, who was still dry heaving. He leaned onto the wall with his left arm and his right arm around his stomach.
"Hey, it's ok, just breathe." I said calmly and reached out to touch his back. His entire frame was shaking but relaxed some under my touch. I rubbed his back in slow circles. Tae seemed to finally regain control of himself and I used my free hand on his chest to pull him away from the wall. I led him back towards the others slowly, his right hand around my waist for support.
"Did anyone notice those?" Jimin asked just then, pointing at the opposite corner of the room. I looked and so did Jin. There were several water bottles sitting neatly on the ground close to the door.
"No, she must have had them there from before." Jin said and moved to go pick them up. There was enough for us all to have two. He handed them out evenly and I cracked one open instantly. I was so thirsty.
Namjoon POV
Once everyone was feeling a little better, we all moved to the far corner of the room again. I could see the cameras in the corners of the room trained on us. I wondered if anyone was actually watching them or if they were just automatic. Everyone sat on the ground or lay out, depending on their comfort preference. Hobi was asleep leaning against my shoulder as I leaned into the corner. Jin and Yoongi were on their way out, leaning against the wall quietly. Jimin was on his back next to me, his arms over his head and his eyes closed. Jungkook had calmed down some and was sitting on my other side, fidgeting with his hands. Taehyung had his head leaned into his arms on his knees, I wasn't sure if he was trying to sleep or not.
A low growling noise caught my attention and I looked down at Jimin next to me. He opened his eyes and met my gaze.
"I'm hungry." He sighed, looking away and at the ceiling. I looked over at Taehyung as he lifted his head up.
"Me too." His voice sounded so defeated it broke my heart. I knew I was starving, so I knew everyone else must be too. Practising dance that rigorously always burned so much energy, it left us starving at the end. I sighed and looked down at the white linoleum tile. There was nothing I could do here for us and it frustrated me to no end. I glanced over at Jimin again, and how thin he looked. I could make out his ribs through his shirt. We'd already had quite an eventful week before these two crazies found us.
"I'm cold." Hobi was awake now it seemed. He shifted closer to me, pulling his coat closer. I knew it was getting later in the day and that this place had no air conditioning. Whatever temperature it was outside would drastically affect it here. I rubbed my eyes.
"Everyone huddle up. I don't think this lady is coming back tonight." I said and Jimin sat up to move closer. He was shivering as he sat next to me and leaned his head onto my shoulder. Jin, Taehyung, and Yoongi did the same. Maybe she had forgotten about us tonight. I doubted it, but I could always hope. I folded my arms over my chest as Taehyung lay down, his head on my lap. I reached out and lay one arm over his side. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. All we could do was wait and hope that someone somewhere would take notice in our absence. Hopefully, ARMY would pull through.
