A.N. So here is chapter 27 I know its long over due and I'm sorry for the wait. That aside I've started my bachelor's so I might be busy with school stuff but I will try to update once or twice a month if not at least once a week.
Sayo's eyes snapped open suddenly. Staring at the clock on her bed side she noted how it was much earlier than she usually woke up. She was thinking back to Marcus's words the previous day. She and Izuku had to lay low because of the Yakuza. While she was used to danger, this was not in her field of expertise and it frustrated her to no end. Glancing to her side, she noticed Lunamon and Phascomon sleeping soundly; she turned on her side leaving her partners to rest and tried to resume her own sleeping.
"Gahh." A voice sounded as she heard a loud crash. Sayo's eyes snapped open as she got up and glanced around for the source. That's when she noticed someone was missing, Black Gabumon. Taking care not to disturb her partners, she slipped out of bed and exited her room. As she walked to the source of the disturbance, she didn't hear anymore crashes but she heard some loud panting. When she arrived at her destination, the training area, her eyes immediately fell on her missing partner. Black Gabumon was busy at work, running on the treadmill. He didn't seem to notice the human girl behind him and continued to run.
"Come on. Faster." The digimon said as the machine slowly started to speed up. He kept his pace with the machine for a few moments, but then it became too much for him. Black Gabumon tripped over his feet, and fell on the treadmill which propelled him off of it and into Sayo. Sayo reacted in time and managed to catch her partner just as he was sent flying, causing the two of them to tumble.
"Ouch." They both said. Black Gabumon was to first to recover. To say the dark beast was surprised to see his tamer up so early was an understatement. He quickly stood up, trying to compose himself before he offered his paw to Sayo to help her up.
"You're up early." He told her.
"When you're making such a racket how can I sleep." She retorted.
"I've been doing this for months now and you slept just fine." He responded.
"Touche." Sayo said before she glanced at the treadmill. "You've been doing speed training." She noted causing her partner's eyes to widen.
"I've just been trying to get faster. Beat my opponents quicker…. and you can do more cases." Black Gabumon explained nervously.
"Is that the only reason?" She asked suspiciously. She knew her partner; she could tell when something was off with him. "Is this about the yakuza?" She asked. It had been playing on her mind and she suspected it probably played on his as well.
"It's complicated." Black Gabumon said.
"Humour me." Sayo said as she grabbed his paw. "I'm not going back to bed now, and you don't look like you can go another round on that treadmill. So let's uncomplicate this over breakfast." She told him.
"So where do you want to start." Sayo said as she took out some sirloin for her partner while he poured a bowl of cereal for her. The two sat down on a picnic blanket on the beach portion of Sayo's room watching the virtual coast.
"It's about my champion form." Black Gabumon said quietly as he took a bite out of the meat.
"Are you frustrated you can't access it like Black Agumon?" Sayo asked as she scooped some cereal and ate.
"Yes…well…no….its…."
"Complicated." Sayo finished. "This is meant to uncomplicate that." She told him.
"I…I haven't been completely honest with you." Black Gabumon told her solemnly. "I can access it." He said, earning her attention. He noticed the change in her expression, taking a deep breath he continued. "I've been able to go champion on my own for a while but…."
"I assume there is a very good reason why you didn't." Sayo said. "I'm sure there was a very good reason why you didn't go champion when we were captured by Arukenimon and mere moments away from being spider food." Sayo said her voice was quiet but firm.
"I hate it." Black Gabumon whispered. "I hate that form more than I hate anything else." He told her.
"Huh?" Sayo said in surprise. "Do you lose control when you evolve?" She asked.
"No." Black Gabumon answered. "I retain my intelligence when I fight." He told her.
"So what is the problem then?" Sayo inquired.
"I evolved into Sangloupmon." Black Gabumon grounded his teeth.
"Sangloupmon." Sayo repeated. That name was familiar to her but where had she heard it from. She tried to rack her brain; luckily Black Gabumon noticed and decided to diverge some more information.
"It's a natural carrier of the x antibody." He explained. "It's also one of the few digimon who can permanently drain a digimon's digicore." He said in a quiet voice. Sayo tried to hide her shock but it was pointless. A digimon's digicore is the equivalent of a soul to them, most digimon who die are reformed because the digicore remains intact. To drain a digicore is effectively sucking out the soul of another creature and permanently destroying them.
"That's wow…I don't even know what to say to that." Sayo told him.
"Back home a lot of people called me a freak or a monster because of it. They treated this power like it was a curse." Black Gabumon said. "And you know what's the best part…they were right." He told her. "One day when I was training another digimon challenged me to a fight. I had initially refused but after a few insults and threats, I let my temper get the better of me." He told her.
"You didn't." Sayo said in disbelief.
"I did right in front of the town." Black Gabumon said. "I remember looking into the people's eyes, seeing that fear; I ran off after that and I never looked back. When I reached far enough away…I smashed myself into a couple of rocks and trees. It took a while but I had finally dealt enough damage to myself that I reverted back into my rookie form. After that I wandered around…until I met you." Black Gabumon said.
"I didn't know." Sayo told him.
"It's not something I want people to know about." Black Gabumon responded before he turned to Sayo. "So please don't tell anybody." He pleaded. "You're the only one I can trust with this." He told her.
"Suddenly I feel less special." A familiar voice said. Both Sayo and Black Gabumon turned to see none other than Black Agumon standing there with his arms crossed. "I hope I'm not interrupting." He said nervously as he saw the stunned expressions on their faces.
"How much did you hear?" Black Gabumon asked.
"I heard enough." The dark dino answered.
"Um what are you doing here?" Sayo asked.
"I always stop by every now and then to train with this knucklehead," he explained, "but wow, I didn't know you had so much emotional baggage." He told his friend. "Lucky for you I have my fair share of messed up transformations." He explained.
"It's not the same." Black Gabumon grumbled. "You evolved into Deltamon because your intentions were misplaced but you got over it and evolved into DarkTyrannomon, meanwhile no matter what I do I still evolve into Sangloupmon." He explained.
"Wait a minute…that's why you're only training speed." Sayo realized. "You want to try and change your evolution path." She told him. Her partner nodded his head in confirmation.
"I've spent a lot of time researching how to do it in my spare time, all the different ways and methods. I've still got a lot more experimenting to do but I haven't found any real reason why I might be locked out of a different line." He told them. "Currently I am trying to train my body, a lot of the garurumon line was primarily speed focused so I figure if I improved my speed I could change to some form of Garurumon." He explained.
"That's…" Sayo trailed off looking for the right word.
"That's kind of stupid." Black Agumon yelled. "You have the power to become a champion but you're too afraid of it." He told him.
"It's not me." Black Gabumon responded quietly.
"All you need to do is train yourself…it doesn't matter what your power is so long as you choose to use it responsibly." The dark dino responded.
"It doesn't matter if I train or not. It's not my power and I don't want it." He explained.
Sayo didn't know what to say as she watched the two black digimon bicker. Eventually the fight escalated not to the point of fighting but to the point of them walking away in a huff. "Oh boy…" She told herself. She was going to need to talk with someone about this and be as discreet as possible.
"IZUKU!" She yelled as she kicked open his bedroom door startling the sleeping hero to be.
"WAAH." Izuku said as he tumbled out of bed. He then glanced up to notice the familiar lavender haired girl standing in his room. "SAYO!" He remarked as he stood up hiding himself with his blanket. "What are you doing here?" He said nervously. Even after all these months he still found himself flustered whenever she pulled stunts like this. Like seriously what boy wouldn't react like this when a girl he's so close to just shows up in his bedroom when he's still in his pajamas, unannounced.
"Well I.."
Before Sayo could continue they were interrupted when Gaomon barged into the room, startling Izuku once more. The dog digimon was ready to fight whoever had broken into the Midoriya household however when he noticed Sayo was standing in the room his expression quickly morphed from 'ready to fight' to 'disgruntled'. It didn't take long before another pair of footsteps were heard and Gaomon immediately dropped on all fours.
"Izuku what is going…on?" Inko said as she entered her son's room to find Sayo and Gaomon with him. Sayo flashed a rather nervous smile as did Izuku and Gaomon just looked clueless between the two. "Oh Sayo it's only you." Inko said. "Well I'm going to go make breakfast. Seeing as you're already dressed, would you mind helping me, while Izuku organizes himself?" She asked the girl.
"Sure." The cyber sleuth answered as she exited the room with the older woman. Gaomon just glanced back to Izuku.
"That went better than I thought it would." The rookie said. " I thought she would have assumed the worst that Sayo slept here or act the exact opposite and try to ship you two." He said.
"First off the latter only happens in anime and manga….at least I hope it does." Izuku explained. "The former…well it's not the first time Sayo has randomly barged into my room unannounced. The first time mom assumed the worst but after she got to know Sayo a little bit and after it happened a few more times it eventually became a normal occurrence." Izuku told him.
"Kid there is nothing normal about this." Gaomon deadpanned.
"Considering that I barely had friends before and was bullied I'm pretty sure this was as close to normal as we could have hoped for." Izuku answered.
"So long as she doesn't develop tsundere tendencies I think we'll be good." Gaomon answered.
"I think you meant yandere."
"What's the difference?"
"One is lovestruck that they might kill out of jealousy and the other is cold but eventually warms up."
"Yeah well as long as she doesn't become either of those…you're good."
"Okay….now can you please leave so I can change."
"Sir yes sir."
Outside Inko was fast at work making breakfast for her little family. Glancing to the purple haired intruder she let off a small smile. "So do you have a good reason or do I need to take back your house key?" Inko asked the girl.
"Well I did need to talk to him about something important but now that I'm here with you I feel like it might be better to get an adult's opinion." Sayo told her. She had sent her digimon to Mirei's place while she came to check Izuku. Hopefully it would keep BlackGabumon busy but she didn't count it especially after this morning so she needed to get this off her chest as soon as possible.
"What exactly is this about?" Inko asked.
"I have a friend whose powers are scaring him. He thinks it's a curse and he refuses to use it and I'm worried it's bad for him to be in this state of mind." Sayo explained.
"Well I'm sure it can't be that bad." Inko said.
"He told me the last time he used his powers, he had to hurt himself to get it to stop." Sayo explained.
"Oh..that is…."
"Pretty bad." Sayo finished.
"I can see why you wanted to talk to Izuku about this." Inko muttered. "Growing up he had often tried to put himself in some scenarios where he could try and trigger his quirk. He never did anything too dangerous thankfully, but I still feel somewhat scared that he might try to activate his quirk by endangering himself." Inko explained.
"So what did you do?" Sayo asked. "I know Izuku isn't like that now but what did you do to help him?"
"I told him that he didn't need a quirk to be special. I still felt scared that he would try to be a hero so I never encouraged his dreams in being a hero but I did try and make him feel at least some pride in himself about being quirkless" Inko said. "It was easier said than done but luckily I had help." Inko added. "Izuku had found hope and inspiration in All Might and even when I felt like he should give up his dreams, the hope All Might inspired in him didn't let Izuku give up."
"I see." Sayo said thoughtfully. This had put a lot of stuff into perspective for her not just with BlackGabumon but also Izuku. She had heard the story of how he meant Guilmon and despite Izuku omitting some information, the dino had let slip some details that when she looked closer to it had some unfavourable implications. Those details aside Inko had given her some rather interesting information…Izuku had held on so long because of his hopes and dreams. So maybe she should look into Black Gabumon's hopes and dreams as well. She would need to file this information away for later.
"Okay breakfast is done." Inko commented as she saw Izuku and Gaomon approaching. Sayo helped Inko carry the food to the dining room before they sat down and ate. While she did have breakfast at home, she still ate….it would be rude to pass up any of Mama Midoriya's cooking. Besides she would still be able to speak with Izuku later on his opinion on the matter and after talking with Inko she finally had an idea on how to do it now, regardless of if Black Gabumon was in her digivice or not.
Breakfast with the Midoriya's were delicious as always. Inko had told them not to worry about the dishes; she would clean them. She had bid them both farewell.
"I love you, Izuku." Inko told them.
"Love you too, mom." Izuku replied.
"Love you three, Mrs. Midoriya." Sayo added awkwardly.
"Have a nice day you two." Inko said as they both left.
Once they left Midoriya's residence, Izuku and Sayo double checked and made sure nobody was watching before they slipped into the digital world. Once inside the digital world the two teens made their way to the rooftops where they waited. It didn't long before they heard a familiar whistle and Locomon arrived landing on the rooftops.
"All aboard." The train said as they boarded.
"We're aboard." Sayo told the train.
"Are you sure?" Locomon asked.
"Yeah." Izuku answered.
"Alright...then hold on." Locomon said before he took off. The train rocketed more like a spaceship than an actual train soaring high into the sky before it started flying towards U.A. The train itself had reached near the clouds making everything else look small by comparison.
"You know this never gets old." Izuku told them as he watched over the city. It looked surreal in sense.
"Thank you, young hero." The train said as he did a loop. "But this sight of the city is not the best view I can give you." Locomon said. "I can take you and the young Miss to a nice romantic trip to the north if you wish next time." The train told them.
"A romantic setting is nice and all Locomon...but this young Miss would prefer going somewhere exotic and far out." Sayo said.
"Exotic and far out you say." Locomon muttered. "I know the perfect place Mademoiselle. It is a place I'm sure a tamer of Dark Moon will love."
"Well perhaps you can take me there tomorrow." Sayo said.
"Very well." Locomon responded.
"Now I'm curious too." Izuku said. He wondered just what kind of place Dark Moon tamers would love to visit.
"Then perhaps you can join the young miss as well." Locomon said.
"Thanks but I've got training and school work to do." Izuku said.
"Ah yes." Locomon said."U.A.'s sports festival is coming up." He told them. "I presume you two are competing." He said.
"We are." Izuku said. "It's my first step to being recognized as a hero." He told the train.
"I'm just entering to help him and a few others." Sayo said before a thought crossed her mind. "Hey Izuku...I've been thinking...do you think we can make a team to compete in the festival?" She asked her partner.
Izuku looked at her curiously. "A team? Why do you need to make a team?" He asked.
"Honestly….it's just more efficient and more fun. Strategically speaking as a team we'll be able to cover our own weaknesses. You and I have no quirk but we have training, if we combine that with the quirks and tech of the others we can all do a lot more than if we alone."
"I suppose that could work. There is strength in numbers after all." Izuku told her.
"That's right." Sayo told him. "Mei wants you to showcase her tech and if we can get Ilda, Ochaco, Mineta and Shinso to join us then we'll have a team of 7 people working together. That's almost half a class." She noted. "Plus with that many of us working together we wouldn't always have to be so worried about getting blinded -sided and we can relax a little."
" So I assume you are enacting the old Musketeer saying 'One for All and All for One'." Locomon told them.
"One for what?" The two students asked.
"It's an old saying. All for one means a group works together to help one individual. One for all means an individual works to help a group. Put them together and they mean "A group will look out for its members and the members will look out for the group."
"Words to live by." Sayo said.
"I suppose they are." Izuku said. "You may be right after all. If we work together then I am sure we can win this." He told her.
"Awesome. Try and tell all your friends and I'll try and get Shinso and Mei." Sayo said before a thought crossed her mind. "Don't tell Bakugo though."
"I'm not that naive. I know Kaachan wouldn't work with us." Izuku told her. "Knowing him he probably has plans to win the entire festival."
"Yeah….reminds me of another moron I used to know." Sayo grumbled. "If I ever do face him in the festival, I'm not going to pull my punches." She told Izuku.
"Ironically if you didn't go all out he may be even more insulted than if you actually beat him." Izuku laughed.
"I'll keep that in mind." Sayo noted as they arrived at U.A.
"Later Locomon." The two told the train as they departed. Izuku heading to class and Sayo heading to check Present Mic.
Okay as per usual question and discussion time. As a fan and a writer I'll admit I have my moments where I realize several things.
One sometimes you want a story to go on forever when realistically it can't. You always want to see what happens next with characters but that's not always the best idea as once a story is told sometimes subsequent works can't measure up or if its extended too much you risk butchering the story.
So the question is what work of fiction do you wish continued and developed more and what stories do you wish didn't?
Second discussion is that sometimes when you look at a work retroactively you notice some glaring issues with the writing in hindsight. For me as much I love MHA I have noticed some glaring flaws with the writing and i question whether they were intentional or not for instance there is the mixed messages of MHA's world and the characters.
Tenko to me is always a victim because of circumstance and everything that ever happened to him leads to this. Sure he follows All for one but he's practically been brainwashed by the villain and from the look at recent manga chapters he is nothing more than a tool. He may be a villain but unless he can face off against all for one learning the truth and then overcoming him and rejecting Afo he'll always be a puppet.
And then there is the whole you too can be a hero statement by all might which feels hypocritical because its followed by inheriting the most broken quirk ever. Essentially meaning you can be a hero when you get my broken quirk. Sure Izuku has his moments where his heroic qualities like his persistence and heart do shine but it seems like the story went against itself when he got one for all look at it retroactively he has nothing before quirk and then when he gets quirk and training he starts getting everything else and suddenly the whole quirkless status becomes irreverent in every follow up chapter.
Like the only reason he has one for all is to make him the sort of chosen one which undermines the idea of anyone can be a hero heck one for all itself was like this. The users before all might weren't chosen they were just the closest people to the previous user before they died...then nana and all might sought out successors now before you all say anything...I know I may sound like a hypocrite myself but here's the thing this story is not how everyone can be a hero, this story is about how teamwork and cooperation makes people stronger than just relying in themselves and that hard work and team work can help overcome many obstacles. I remember someone said how Izuku is being hypocritical with having digisoul as a quirk substitute. I can see why that's the case but the thing about digisoul is that in this story it represents the bonds between Izuku and his team. just wanted to share that.
Question for this discussion point are there any works you feel lost there message or developed other messages that may contradict themselves ?
I know I read somewhere how naruto said hard work overcomes talent and then gave naruto all the broken lineage, reincarnation and ancestry to the main boy and they lost the stealth and ninja motif stuff when they went all summon giant monsters and stuff.
Thats all for now.
