Ch 12 Actions Have Consequences

"Kiara!" Kion and Kovu cried out, their eyes wide with horror as they watched the golden brown Princess crumple to the ground. "Get the Hell out of my way!" Kovu thundered as he shoved Kion out of the way and went to check on his mate. "Kiara?" Kovu said softly as he gently nudged Kiara with his nose. "Kiara are you alright?" Kovu tried again.

"I'm fine Kovu," came Kiara's annoyed response as she lifted her head and looked at her mate.

"Thank the Kings," Kovu sighed as he nuzzled his mate. "I thought Kion hurt you when he hit you."

"Me?!" Kion cried out, the outrage clear in his voice. "This wasn't my fault Kovu! If you hadn't attacked me like an idiot then Kiara wouldn't have gotten hit. So don't you dare blame this on me!"

"If you hadn't..." Kovu began.

"Alright enough!" Kiara cried, getting to her feet and separating her mate and brother. "I don't know what the Hell has gotten into you two but its going to stop right now!" Kiara shouted, panting for breath.

"Kiara please calm down," Kovu said, concerned that his mate was stressing out.

"Yeah sis we'll stop," Kion said calmly. "Won't we Kovu?" Kion gave his brother-in-law a look when he said this part.

"Yeah sure," Kovu said, forcing himself to smile. "We'll stop. I'm sorry Kiara. I didn't mean to cause you so much stress."

"Yeah me either," Kion said, the guilt coming out in his voice. "I'm really sorry sis."

"Its alright Kion," Kiara said, nuzzling her brother. "This wasn't your fault."

"Oh and I suppose its my fault then?" Kovu said with a growl.

"You provoked Kion for no reason Kovu!" Kiara declared, glaring at her mate. "Then when he defended himself you attacked him! So yeah this is your fault!"

"Don't get worked up again Ki'," Kion said gently. "Stress isn't good for the cub."

"You're right Kion," Kiara said, still glaring at her mate. "And I'm not going to get worked up again. I'm going home to rest." With that the Princess began to walk back to Pride Rock with Kion and Kovu right behind her.

"Look Kovu I really don't have a problem with you," Kion said, making sure he kept his voice low. "And we are family so I think we should try to get along better. For Kiara's sake."

"Yeah I know we should," Kovu said softly. "And I know I was being an asshole and I'm sorry about that."

"Yeah well I'm sorry too," Kion said. "You know for what I said about you being like Zira. That was a low blow and you didn't deserve that." By now they had reached Pride Rock and Kiara was heading back in the cave.

"Oh and Kovu you're sleeping out here tonight," the golden brown lioness said.

"Yeah I figured that," Kovu said with a sigh. Without another word Kiara headed in the cave.

"Look Kovu I meant what I said before," Kion said. "I really do want us to get along better. You know like brothers or something like that."

"Don't count on that Kion," Kovu said as he laid down.

"Dude what is your problem?" Kion demanded.

"I got no problem with you Kion," Kovu snapped, not looking at his brother-in-law.

"Whatever man," Kion said, shaking his head. He wanted to say more but decided against it. Instead he shook his head and went inside the cave for the night.

Meanwhile back at the Tree of Life Rani was franticly trying to figure out a way to heal Sarak. Rani had sent one of her messenger birds to send word to Kion of Sarak's attack. "Oh Kion why'd you have to leave me now?" Rani thought. "I need you the most right now and you're not here. But then again it was my own fault that you left to begin with. I've created such a mess." Rani lowered her head and let out a sob. But that sadness didn't last long and Rani remembered what she had to do. And that was get help for her dying uncle. "Grandmother I really need your help," Rani prayed. "Yours and Mom and Dad's. Please help me heal Sarak. I don't think I can handle losing him. Please help me." Rani bowed her head as the tears silently came. After crying for a few minutes Rani heard a familiar voice call her name. Looking up Rani saw Janna's spirit there. "Hello dear one," Janna said with a smile.

"Oh Grandmother am I glad to see you!" Rani cried out, wiping her eyes with her paw. "Sarak is hurt really bad. He.."

"Darling I know how badly my son is hurt," Janna said. "And I know what you need from us."

"Then you'll help me?" Rani asked.

"Darling this is a very serious situation," Janna said. "And its something that'll take time to do. Until then no matter what happens you need to know you did everything you could do to save Sarak."

"But Grandmother I..." Rani began. But Janna's image began to fade.

"I love you Rani," Janna said as she vanished. "Everything will work out the way it should." With that Janna was gone leaving Rani alone. But the brown coated Queen wasn't alone for long. A few minutes later Baliyo approached his sister.

"Hey," the younger lion said, looking down at his unconscious uncle. "Still no change huh?"

"Don't worry Bali'," Rani said with a slight smile. "I have it on very good authority that everything will work out the way it should."

"Oh yeah?" Baliyo said, looking up at his older sister. "Let me guess: Grandmother came and talked to you. Right?"

"You're too smart for me little brother," Rani said with a smile. Baliyo scowled at his sister's words.

"You know I hate being called little," the light brown lion said with annoyance.

"Sorry," Rani said with a laugh. Just then Sarak let out a slight groan. "Its alright Sarak," Rani whispered into Sarak's ear. "Everything is going to be alright. I promise. I love you." With that Rani nuzzled Sarak and she and Baliyo layed down beside him, both of them hoping he'd be awake in the morning.

The next morning things were not going so good back at Pride Rock. Kovu awoke in a foul mood. The brown coated lion got up and stretched. "Damn you Kion," he grumbled as his back cracked as he stretched and walked to the watering hole. "This is all his fault. If he hadn't come back then me and Kiara wouldn't have fought. He'll pay for that. He'll..." But just then Kovu heard a voice call his name. Looking up Kovu saw a small blue Kingfisher come flying in, looking frantic.

"Kovu have you seen Kion?!" the Kingfisher asked.

"No," Kovu said, shaking his head. "What's wrong Mjumbe?"

"He's need back at the Tree of Life right away!" Mjumbe informed the future King. "I've received word that Rani's uncle Sarak was attacked by Makucha. He's pretty bad off and there's a good chance he'll die."

"I'll tell him right away," Kovu said, even though he had no intention of doing so. "You go back to the Tree and tell Rani Kion's on his way."

"Thanks Kovu!" Mjumbe said as he flew away.

"This is perfect," Kovu thought with a grin. "If I don't tell Kion what's happening he won't return home. And that'll ruin his relationship even more than it already is. Rani's likely to kick him out for good. That'll take him down a peg or two." With that Kovu let out a slight laugh and headed back to Pride Rock determined to keep this piece of information to himself.
