Chapter Twenty-Six

Alan was the first to notice the doctor coming out and he called out to the others to meet with him.

"How is he, Dr…?" Alan asked anxiously

"Dr. Green and your son is still in surgery but they should finish within the hour, though," Dr. Green answered

"Is Donnie going to be okay?" Charlie asked, not able to keep his voice from breaking with fear

"I won't lie to you guys, Don took quite the beating and they broke several of his ribs in several different places. That and the man nearly punctured his lungs and several other organs but luckily we have been able to deal with them right now but we will watch him carefully for the next couple of days but we are cautiously optimistic that he will pull through."

"What about long-term?" Alan asked, trying not to think about the possibly losing Don now or ever

"Long-term, he will need a lot of physical therapy to help him with his injuries and you will have to help him move around to make sure he can start moving properly."

"Anything else." Alan asked anxiously

"You guys need to get some rest after we settle Don in a recovery room, as all of you have a long road ahead of you and your son is going to need all of you well rested to help him." Dr. Green said with a knowing smirk

"Can you call us when they take Don to recovery?" Charlie asked

"Sure and make sure you guys get really good rest as Mrs. Eppes and the baby will need to see you guys rested too."

"Thanks for the advice" Alan said with tired smile, knowing the next few months are going to be exhausting.

'All that matters is that everyone is alive and we are going to get to the bottom of this mystery and figure out the connection between these people and Stan, if any.'

Alan internally cringed at the last part, as he is still hoping that it's purely coincidental and Stan may just have got caught up in something he probably shouldn't be in the first place.

'Stan will be home tonight, from what his recent message said, so I am going to go have a chat with him to see if he can fill in the missing pieces.' Alan thought to himself, 'One way or another, I am going to get answers.'

Alan told Megan about his plan and she reluctantly agreed to it, as she figured it was their best bet and they needed to find out as to why the bodies were there and what other significances they could possibly have.

'One things for sure, these people will not continue to get away with it for much longer.' Megan vowed to herself as they left the hospital to rest up for the next day.

They were going to need it, as there was no telling if another body was going to show up and what Stan will tell Alan about what has been going on.
