Note: I'm really slouching as I write this story, but it's because I have to work on my other stories as well. Before we move on, I want to say something to a reviewer on this story.
Yamagata: After this chapter, there will be twelve chapters to go. It might seem like a long story, but it's worth the wait.
Okay, now it's time for chapter twelve.
Chapter 12: Talk With Akela
Lexi woke up in the morning and decided to get some fresh air after getting ready for the day. The moment she opened the door, she saw Akela sitting next to her doorstep.
"You're up." Akela greeted.
"I'm a morning person." Lexi said.
"Doesn't surprise me one bit." The wolf stated.
"Why?" The rabbit asked.
"Baloo and Louie are morning people as well." He answered.
"I'm not surprised to hear that." Lexi said.
"And, before you ask, the answer is: no, I don't watch people while they sleep." Akela said.
"Good to know." Lexi said.
"I do have something to ask, however." Akela said.
"What is it?" The rabbit asked.
"Why is your abdomen big?" The wolf stated his question.
Lexi looked down and saw that the bump on her belly was slightly larger than how it was when she first saw it. Not wanting Akela to find out that she was pregnant, the rabbit processed a lie through her head.
"I eat a lot of food!" She blurted out.
"A big eater, huh?" Akela looked at Lexi, not believing her lie.
"I'm just one of those people!" The rabbit blushed.
"Don't lie to me," the wolf said, "I know what's really going on."
"You do?" Lexi's eyes widened.
"Yes," the lupine said, "but don't worry. I'm going to pretend like I didn't notice what was going on with you. Baloo might beat the fuck out of me if I made a remark about you being pregnant."
"I can only imagine how horrible your beat down would be." The rabbit shuddered, imaging Baloo beating up Akela.
"I'd be lucky enough to get my ribs and arms broken." The wolf said.
"Why didn't you go on the retreat with the others?" Lexi asked.
"To make a long story short," Akela answered, "I have to babysit for Rama and Raksha."
"Can I help?" The rabbit asked.
"I can handle it." The wolf said, "After all, their kids are old enough to fend for themselves."
"Can I ask you another question?" Lexi spoke.
"You may." Akela said.
"Why did you really help me out yesterday?"
"Because I couldn't risk you being one of Shere Khan's victims." The wolf answered, "Even if you're lucky enough to survive, Baloo wouldn't take it well if he saw you hurt or worse. He might even try to fight Shere Khan, which can only end in disaster! What I'm trying to say, kid, is that you should be more careful in everyday life."
"I will," the rabbit said, "but is there anything else that you could tell me?"
"I'll be a shoulder to cry on if no one else is available." He stated, "I know that you have your hands full with Baloo, but there will be a moment where even he will not be able to help you. The same with Bagheera and the others."
A beeping noise came out of nowhere. Akela looked down and saw that it was coming from his watch.
"I've got to go," he said, "the kids must be waiting on me. See you later! But promise me one thing: that you'll be careful before Baloo comes back!"
"I will!" Lexi said before Akela walked off. When he was gone, Lexi sat down on her doorstep. Yawning, the rabbit fell asleep again, being careful enough to not collapse to the ground.
Lexi found herself on a tropical island, where the sun was shining above her. There was no one else in sight. Or, at least, there wouldn't have been if not for a familiar voice.
"Lexi." Baloo's voice rang out in a seductive tone.
The rabbit turned her head and saw Baloo standing near her. To her surprise, the bear was now muscular.
"Baloo," she was almost speechless, "you got ripped."
"You wanna dance?" The bear asked.
Lexi nodded, letting Baloo take her hand. The couple then proceeded to twirl and bounce on the sand. They did this until they shared a long, passionate, kiss. This caused the bear and the rabbit to merge. They became another palm tree on the island. This would be their destiny for the rest of their days.
Lexi woke up, startled by the outcome of her dream. It was still bright outside, so she hadn't slept for long. The talk she had with Akela made her feel more cautious. Sure, he was protecting her in his own way, but it made the rabbit get a different outlook on her life. However, there was something on her mind: getting a job. Not even talking to one of Baloo's friends distracted her from that thought.
There are plenty of job opportunities in this city. Lexi thought to herself, I don't know where I'll work at, but I need to get a job before I wind up poor. Maybe Baloo would visit me at work if I'm busy. Hell, I don't think that he would mind it if I had a job. After all, it should be easy to find work now that I'm out of college.
Note: People can have jobs before and after they enter college, can't they? I hope that I'm right with that logic. As for the story, half of it has been completed, so I know that I can get this monster finished. What did you guys think about this chapter?
