[Valentine's Freighter on the Bay]
Jasper, Emmett, and Alice were the first to burst onto the ship. Valentine's men were startled at the sudden appearance of the trio. They were rushed, but the three moved flawlessly and quicker than the men that attacked. None could compare to the speed of a vampire. Jasper was the God of War. He would make the ones before him suffer the consequences of messing with his family.
Simon and Jake appeared a minute later, the large size of Jake surprising the men as well, since none of them had seen a direwolf before.
Valentine made his appearance then, watching gas four vampires and a wolf take on forty of his manpower at one time. He scowled, but didn't have enough time as shadowhunters boarded him, rushing over the deck, clashing with more of his men. Jameson stood beside him. "What do we do sir?"
"Get the girls, and Jocelyn, let's get off the ship before they find us." Valentine barked and they both started down below.
Bella and Clary heard the commotion go on above them. "Jace. They've come to get us." Bella said, and then she hurried and helped Clary get her mother secured so they could transport her, and then picked up their makeshift weapons and waited for the door to open.
The door swung open. Jameson was through the door first, and Clary hit him with the pipe in her hand, stunning him.
Valentine was next, coming through the door, and Bella struck out at him. Valentine deflected the blow and started towards her. "That is enough. I am your father."
"I don't give a damn who you are." Bella said through grit teeth. She swung the pipe she held like a staff, and Valentine was surprised at her speed and ferocity. Valentine moved, deflecting some of her blows, trying to keep up with her. Clary managed to knock Jameson out cold. Dot moved into the room.
"Dot!" Clary said, stunned to see her.
Valentine looked at her. "Warlock, subdue them both."
Dot looked at Clary and then at Bella. She opened a portal and Clary jumped through it, stumbling forward, but she caught herself as she looked around the deck and saw the battle ensuing. Bella took Valentine's shocked reaction as an opportunity to grab Jocelyn.
Valentine moved forward, fighting with her, he backhanded her across the face, the force of the hit blooding Bella's nose. This only angered Bella. She took the pipe and used it to push him back, striking out at him. She moved around the room, gracefully, and Dot inched closer to Jocelyn while Bella had Valentine pinned. Dot managed to get to Jocelyn. "Bella!" Dot called and Bella flipped backwards, using her pipe to push against Valentine, and propelling herself through the portal with Dot and Jocelyn. They were on the upper deck now. She landed on her feet as she spun, one of Valentine's men coming at her. She used the same pipe to strike, hitting him and twisting around and hitting at another man.
"Bella!" Simon called as he made it to her.
"Simon! Get Jocelyn out of here." Bella commanded, and Simon looked at Jocelyn, encased in a purple forcefield.
Simon nodded, grabbing at her, feeling odd about how he couldn't physically touch her, but hold her. He whistled as he ran, getting to Magnus, who opened a portal. Simon ran through it with Jocelyn in his arms.
Bella felt better now that Jocelyn was safe. It distracted her enough for a guy to slice her across her shoulder. Blood oozed out, and her pipe was disarmed from her. She flew into a hand-to-hand with the guy, his dagger striking fast, but she managed to disarm his blade, her round house kick coming around and catching him in the jaw and spinning him down to the ground.
Jace was fighting his way over to Bella. He saw her get cut, but she was holding her own, moving and fighting back. His heart slammed in his chest as the worry tried to consume him.
Bella was concentrating hard on deflecting blows, and shielding her stomach, and trying not to get seriously hurt. Valentine made it topside, it was obvious that he took care of Dot, blood coating him.
Valentine zeroed in on Bella, getting to her, and striking out at her. "You are just a little girl. You think that you can beat me?"
"I don't think Valentine." Bella spat, as she kicked, his hands blocking and striking at her.
"You are my daughter."
"I don't care." Bella said, moving fluidly from stance to strike.
Jasper made it over to Bella and Valentine's tango before Jace could. He put himself between the too, shoving Valentine backwards. He grabbed Bella around the waist and moved with her quickly, getting her to Magnus. "Bella, go through the portal now." He said quickly.
"No, I can't just leave all of you here!"
Magnus opened the portal. "Peaches, you don't have a choice." He said.
Jasper looked at her, leaning down and kissing her forehead. "I'll get Jace, and the others to safety. I need you to go now."
Bella looked at Jasper for a short moment and then walked through the portal.
Jasper moved with Magnus, making sure that their allies made it through the portal.
Jace and Valentine were butting heads this time, the anger strained on Jace's face.
"Jace!" Jasper called, and distracted Valentine while Magnus pulled the portal open, keeping Valentine's men at bay.
Jace doubled back to the portal, launching himself through it. Jasper caught Jameson by the throat when he rushed him.
Valentine looked at Jasper, saw the immense power Jasper held. "This isn't over." He said.
Demons started appearing, trickling in, making Magnus look around nervously. "Jasper, we have to go."
Jasper crushed Jameson throat, killing him and tossing him aside. He stepped backwards into the portal with Magnus.
[The Institute]
Alec caught Bella as she stumbled out of the portal. "Easy." He said and then Bella threw her arms around Alec, holding him tight.
Alec held her tight against him, tears meeting his eyes. "I was so worried. Are you okay?" He said and pulled back seeing blood on her. "You're hurt."
Bella looked at her arm. "Yeah, I forgot that happened. I need Carlisle, I just- "
"I know, he's in the infirmary." Alec said and he guided Bella in there to him.
Bella went straight to Carlisle, her arms hugging him, and his arms hugging her back. "Carlisle," She choked out.
Carlisle stroked her hair. "Shhh. It's okay. Let's get you checked out."
Alec looked at Bella. "I'm going to go meet the others. I'll be back." He said, leaving Bella in Carlisle's capable hands.
He made it back to see Magnus and Jasper coming through the portal. Jace was still panicked.
"Where's Bella?" Jace asked, going straight to Alec.
"With Carlisle," Alec said and watched Jace rush off.
Alec walked straight over to Magnus. There was blood covering Magnus, and he knew that it wasn't Magnus', but it made him worry. His heart slammed in his chest as he strode over to him, his hands reaching up, caressing Magnus' face, before his mouth planted firmly against his.
Magnus, dropped his hands to Alec's waist, pulling him tight. Their lips melting together.
Jasper smiled a bit, and then winked at Alice. Her vision was always right, as always.
Carlisle swirled the wand over Bella's belly, Jace was holding her hand in his, he had kissed her, and hugged her tight, nearly crying when he found her with Carlisle.
"There it is." Carlisle said, pointing to the screen. "Baby is fine. Strong heartbeat." He said, printed a picture, and turning the machine off.
Bella felt relieved and she looked at Jace, kissing him softly. "We're fine."
Jace nodded, closing his eyes. His chest still hurt. He had never been so scared in his entire life. He didn't know what he would do without her.
Carlisle looked at her arm. "Needs a few stitches." He said as he turned her arm over in his hands. He got the suturing kit and started fixing her arm.
Back in the command center, Jake had Iz in a lip lock, and Alec and Magnus were still in each other's arms when Maryse made her appearance off the elevator.
Alec sprang away from Magnus, turning to his mom. "Mother, we have rescued Bella, Clary, and Jocelyn from Valentine's hands.
Maryse was going to pretend she just didn't see her son kissing another man. "Good. How is Bella?"
Jace walked back into the room. "She's fine. The baby's fine, not that you asked or anything." Jace said, and looked at Alec, walking over to him, and hugged him. "Thanks for acting fast."
Alec nodded. "Of course." He said and looked back at his mother. "Clary is with Jocelyn in the infirmary. Jocelyn is being protected by a barrier."
Magnus raised a hand. "That would be my doing. I made a potion for her in the event Valentine got to her." He stepped forward, glancing to Alec and then to Maryse. "I have the antidote on me. I'll bring it to her." He said and Maryse nodded, watching Magnus leave.
The room was quiet for what seemed like eternity before Jasper broke the silence. "Valentine isn't done. He said this wasn't over ma'am, and I wasn't able to finish him off because my priority was bringing Jace and the others back alive."
Maryse looked at Jasper. "Valentine is outraged right now, he'll strike back, we'll have to prepare. Thank you, Mr. Whitlock, for getting everyone back in one piece. I appreciate everything that you have done to assist the Clave."
Jasper nodded, and then Alice raised her tiny hand. "Ms. Lightwood, Valentine will strike back, but he is after the Immortal Cup."
Maryse nodded, understanding. "The cup is hidden well. He won't be able to get the cup."
Alec frowned. "The Clave knows where the cup is located? I was under the impression that the Clave didn't know."
"The clave doesn't know, but me and Jocelyn do. It will stay that way." Maryse said and looked at her son. "I'm heading back to Idris once Jocelyn awakes. She will be coming with me."
"What why?" Iz asked, confused.
"To stand trial. She left the Clave, hid herself away with her young daughter, and hid another. She was part of the reason why Valentine was able to stay alive obviously, and she will answer for her actions." Maryse said and looked at Iz. "You will mind your manners, and don't forget who you are speaking to.
Alec looked at Iz and shook his head lightly. "Very well." He said and walked past his mother and to the infirmary where Jocelyn was just waking up. Carlisle was looking her over. "Jocelyn, by the authority of the Clave, you are under arrest."
Jocelyn looked at Alec, nodding. "Very well. I'll go to Idris with Maryse."
Maryse walked in. "Jocelyn. It's good that you're alive. While I commend your efforts to help in the catastrophe that took place prior to your imprisonment, you still deserted the Clave and your duties. You hid your daughters away and- "
"I have one daughter Maryse." Jocelyn said.
Maryse shook her head. "Bella is your daughter."
Jocelyn looked over at Bella, and Bella looked away, not meeting her eyes, and then looked at Alec, who was also avoiding Jocelyn's gaze. "Yes. I see. I thought I could keep her hidden from Valentine. The Clave knew of her whereabouts." She stood then. "Take me to Idris. I would like to talk to Victor Aldertree." Jocelyn said.
Clary stood. "You can't arrest her for trying to protect her family!"
Maryse cast a glance to Clary. "She broke the law."
"So?" Jace said this time. "You and Robert broke that same law when you helped Valentine and the circle."
Maryse whipped around, looking at Jace, her glare harsh. "And we paid for that. Are still…. paying for that mistake."
Jocelyn held up a hand before Jace could say anything else. "It's alright Mr. Wayland. She's right. I broke the law. I will go willingly to Idris." She said and turned to look at Clary, her hands framing her daughter's face. "Do not worry about me." She said and kissed her forehead. She turned to look at Bella, framing her face as well. "Do not fret my daughters." She said, her eyes looking deep into Bella's. Bella nodded her understanding. Then they hugged each other.
"Be careful…. mom." Bella whispered to Jocelyn, and Jocelyn kissed her temple. She hugged Clary and then she left with Maryse and six other shadowhunter guards.
Clary looked at Bella and then hugged her, tears stinging her eyes. Bella hugged her back, rubbing her back. "She's going to be okay. Jocelyn will be okay Clary."
Alec cleared his throat. "Okay, we need to regroup, Magnus, can you work on different types of wards to keep other Warlocks out?"
Magnus nodded. "I will do that. In the meantime, everyone should rest. It's been a long day so far."
Alec nodded his agreement. "Everyone should get some rest. We'll regroup in the morning." He said and everyone dispersed.
Jace took Bella back to her room, and Alec and Magnus followed. They ducked inside.
"Bella, you didn't have to- "Alec started.
"It's fine. If Maryse wants to believe that Jocelyn is my mother, then so be it. Jocelyn understood immediately and knows what's happening." Bella explained.
Magnus nodded. "I explained to her about Bella briefly before you walked in. Victor Aldertree will exonerate Jocelyn. The Lightwoods were not privy to the knowledge of Jocelyn's whereabouts or Bella's. The Clave kept that from Maryse and Robert."
Alec understood then. "Ah. So, will they tell mother about Bella's real parentage?"
"I'm not sure, but they will make sure Jocelyn is not persecuted for something they did. They hid Jocelyn to protect her and Clary from Valentine. They did the same with Bella. Bella and Clary are very special Shadowhunters." Magnus explained. "Not since the first Shadowhunter, have shadowhunters had the ability to directly communicate with the Angels. Bella and Clary can summon an angel."
Jace looked stunned and so did Bella. "So her ability to create new runes?"
Magnus nodded. "Yes. Which means…"
"Clary and Bella, don't need a cup for the creation of other Shadowhunters." Alec said, giving his answer.
Magnus nodded. "Sort of. They can make a new cup."
"That's why Valentine wanted them." Jace said.
"Yes. That's why. Maryse thinks she knows where the real cup is. Jocelyn has it hidden very well, and only Clary can retrieve it or Jocelyn herself." Magnus said simply.
"Why is that?" Alec asked.
Magnus smirked. "Well, I can't tell you why. I just know that they're the only two."
Bella sighed. "So, as long as Jocelyn is in Idris, the cup is safe, because I'm pretty sure Clary has no clue where it's at."
"Yes. In the meantime, everyone get some rest." Magnus said and left the room, Alec following him. "Alexander- "
Alec grabbed Magnus' arm and spun him to face him. He leaned in, kissing him again, this time his tongue prodding his mouth open.
Magnus kissed Alec back, his tongue sliding over his. The kiss was passionate, one that he welcomed. He moved with Alec, towards Alec's own bedroom. They disappeared inside, Magnus let Alec pull at his clothes, getting him shirtless, his muscles rippling under his touch. He pulled at Alec's clothes, dumping them in the floor before they fell on to the bed. Magnus' touch was gentle, stroking over Alec's toned chest, his arms, the inside of his thigh.
"Magnus…" Alec breathed as Magnus kissed his throat, his chest, his stomach.
"Alexander, you only have to tell me to stop." Magnus said, leaning up and gazing down at Alec's beautiful blue eyes.
"I…" Alec said, turning his head and closing his eyes. "I've never…"
Magnus nodded, sliding beside him, and pulled him into his arms, letting Alec's head rest on his chest. "We'll take our time Alexander. No need to rush." He said and Alec sighed, relaxing against Magnus. He felt exhausted from the day. "Go to sleep Alexander, I'll be right here." He murmured and Alec closed his eyes and fell into a slumber while Magnus was stroking lightly over his bare back.
Jace got Bella changed and in bed, snuggled up. He held her, afraid to fall asleep. She was already asleep, her head resting on his chest. Her breathing was even, and she was beside him, but still he was afraid to close his eyes.
[November 16th, the Institute]
Magnus put more wards up around the Institute, making sure that a breach would not occur like Valentine did. It has been silent for nine days. No retaliation yet. There was no word from Idris on Jocelyn, which was making Clary anxious.
Patrols were increased, and the hunt for Valentine himself was still on. They wanted to find him before he found them.
Alec hadn't heard from his mother or father even. It was starting to make him wonder.
The elevator opened and off stepped Victor Aldertree and Jocelyn. It was a shock to everyone. After silence for nine days, they at least expected some sort of announcement. Victor when straight to command. Alec turned, facing him.
"Alec Lightwood," Victor said calmly.
"Councilman Aldertree." Alec said simply.
"Your parents have lost control of the Institute. They are no longer it's leaders." Victor announced. He looked around at everyone. "Jocelyn Fairchild will assume this command, with Alec Lightwood as the second. Does this present a problem?"
Alec shook his head. "It doesn't. I welcome Jocelyn as my superior and leader. I will be happy to lead under her."
Victor nodded. "Good. Where is Isabella Lightwood?"
Iz raised her hand. "Here."
Victor look at her. "No. Not you. Isabella?"
Alec swallowed, looking at Iz. "She's in the infirmary for a checkup."
Iz's mouth dropped open and then whispers and murmurs started.
Jocelyn cleared her throat. "None of that. Victor, I'll take you to the infirmary to see Bella." She said and guided Victor away.
Alec looked down at the floor. Iz was at his side instantly. "Iz, not right now. We'll talk about this in private." He said and then looked up at Jace. "Everyone back to work." He said and then he followed Victor and Jocelyn.
Iz frowned and looked at Jace. "Did you?"
"Yes." Jace said and looked away. "Alec said we'll talk about it later. Do not make a scene."
Bella just finished with her checkup and was getting ready to leave when Jocelyn entered with Victor. "Oh, Mom?" She said, casting a glance to Victor.
"It's okay Bella. Victor knows the truth." Jocelyn said gently.
Bella nodded. "Oh, good."
Victor nodded. "My sincerest apologies to everything that you have gone through. I know these are confusing times for you. You are one of the greatest assets to the Clave, and we want to make sure that you're provided everything you need, especially for the impending arrival of your new baby."
Bella nodded. "It's okay. Thank you for the support. What can I do for you and the Clave Mr. Aldertree?"
"Call me Victor. Bella, you, and your sister are very special, and we want to keep you both safe. The only thing you can do right now, is stay safe. I won't ask much. Jocelyn has assumed command here with your brother as her second. Jace will be the third." He explained.
"Okay. What's going to happen to Maryse?"
Victor looked at Jocelyn. "She's not in any real trouble Bella. She's just being reassigned to the London Institute with Robert."
"Does she know about me?"
"Yes, and she was shocked. She thought that you had died, but that was a warlock's planted memories. Once the block was undone, she understood what was happening. She thought it would be best if she were to be reassigned." Victor explained.
Bella looked down. "Oh."
Jocelyn reached out, lifting her chin, so she could see her face. "It's okay. Maryse will come around. It's a lot to take in. For now, we just keep doing what we're doing, and we'll defeat Valentine, and all will be right in the world once more," she said with a small smile.
Bella nodded and looked to Victor. "Thank you."
Victor nodded in return. "Of course. Now, I'm needed back in Idris. I will hand things over to you Jocelyn. Run the Institute as you see fit. You were always so amazing at leading." He said with a smile, and then he left.
Jocelyn smiled and watched him leave. She looked at Bella. "Are you okay?"
Bella nodded and gave her a small smile. "Yeah, I'm just…sometimes it's hard to figure out who I am. Am I Bella Swan, Bella Lightwood, or Bella Morgenstern."
Alec spoke up now. "You're Bella Lightwood. Wear that proud. You're my twin, my best friend." He smiled.
Bella nodded, and then she went to Alec and they hugged. He kissed the top of her head. "Thanks," she murmured.
Jocelyn smiled and left the two alone, heading back to command.
