Pokémon Season 6: Mysterious Adventures E11: Enrollments

Misty skipped happily down the bridge. She had finally got the job she needed.

I can't believe it was that easy, she thought.

She moved down the hill and saw Ash and Brock fighting in the sandier region of the beach. She waved to them, but they couldn't see her. Eventually, they looked up and saw her waving. They waved back. Ash's Magikarp was just flopping around while Onix occasionally went in to try to attack. Misty came to stand in the middle of the battle.

"I got a job, guys!" Misty said.

"You did?! That's awesome, Misty!" Brock said.

"Great job, Misty! Where are you working for?" Ash asked.

"I'll be working in a small bakery called "Braiden's Bakery," it's not very popular, but I'll be getting work.

"We're trying to level up Magikarp, but this Pokémon is impossible, especially with its useless attacks!" Ash said. Ash looked like he was about to pull his hair out.

"Oh, I see. In my book, I read you could level up Magikarp by having it battle alongside another one of your Pokemon. Sometimes that helps it go a bit faster," Misty said.

"I guess it's worth a try, Pikachu, go help Magikarp," Pikachu jumped off Ash's shoulder and into the battlefield.

"Pikachu, Thundershock! Magikarp, splash?" Ash said with uncertainty. Pikachu shot electricity towards Onix, dealing what looked like no damage, and Magikarp just flapped there, spouting a tiny droplet of water at Onix. Onix didn't even flinch.

"This is going to take forever!" Ash said.

"Patience is key for this Ash; nobody gets a Gyarados with ease," Brock said.

"I guess, I hope it's worth it," Ash said. "Pikachu Thunderbolt, Magikarp use splash."

Pikachu again emitted another large bolt of electricity, shooting it directly at Onix. Magikarp flopped up with slightly more energy and flopped back down. Another tiny droplet emerged from Magikarp and barely hit Onix. Onix, even being a rock type, wasn't affected.

"Hey, it's been 24 hours officially. Should we go try to beat Sartai?" Misty asked.

"Sure, we can take a break from this a bit," Ash said. "Pikachu, Magikarp, return," he held out his Pokeball and sucked Magikarp back in through a red light burst. Brock sucked Onix into his Pokeball too. They started walking towards the gym.

"Do you have any plans this time?" Misty asked Ash.

"Not really, just trying to keep the flag in place so I can at least know what Pokemon they are," Ash said.

"Makes sense, I wonder what types they are," Misty said.

"Probably Flying types; I've never seen Pokemon go that fast, however. I'd assume it'd be excessive training and flying fits that," Brock said.

"True," Ash said.

They eventually approached the Amadeus Gym. The door was open. They pushed the door open and looked in the waiting room. There was another person there playing the game. He looked intensely focused, demanding his Pokemon to make attacks in his walkie talkie. He eventually stomped the ground. "So close again!" he shouted. His Pokemon came into the door from the doorway, and he put them back in their balls.

"Wait, Aidan? Is that you?" Ash asked.

"Oh! Hey Ash! I was just going for my morning attempt at beating this gym," Aidan said.

"Wow, do you know what types he uses?" Ash asked.

"Remember Ash; we're not allowed to talk about any of this outside the gym," Aidan said.

"Oh, right, sorry," Ash said. "How'd you do?"

"I did okay. I still had about 6 minutes left, which is a huge improvement from the start," Aidan said. "I gotta go soon, I have got some supplies," Aidan started placing his Pokeballs in his bag.

"Supplies? Why would you need that?" Ash asked.

"I'm trying to take school this year," Aidan said.

"School? They have that here?" Ash said curiously.

"Yeah, they just dedicate the school to beat the gyms here. Lots of people go, and you could probably still sign up for classes if you wanted," Aidan placed his last Pokeball in his bag. "Well, I'll see you tomorrow if we meet up, I guess. Bye, Ash!" Aidan ran towards the store across the street.

"They have… School? I've never been…" Ash said.

"You might want to consider it, Ash, it would probably help you improve as a Pokemon trainer quite a bit. Plus, we don't have much else going on right now, so it'd probably work out," Brock said.

"Would you guys take it if I take it?" Ash asked.

"Probably, I could use some training too," Misty said.

"Yeah, especially if they have a breeder program," Brock said.

"Wow, I can't believe that's something we are considering. Is the school going to be hard?" Ash asked.

"Probably, I'll be assuming they'll have different curriculums for different age groups. Or maybe they'll go for just a take whatever classes you want," Brock said.

"Probably," Misty said.

"Well, I should probably get ready to battle Sartai," Ash said.

"Probably," Misty said. They all walked into the gym. It was dimly lit again but this time the air was much warmer. Ash pressed the agreement on the computer screen and sent out his Pokemon. He chose attackers this time. The two buttons emerged out of the ground. He popped his Cyndaquil and Bayleef out.

"Okay, we're going again, guys, make sure you do your best. You want to take the flag from Sartai," Ash said.

Cyndaquil and Bayleef nodded. They went up the stairs into the room where they start. Pikachu jumped off Ash's shoulder and followed them up. Ash hovered his hand above the red button. He took a deep breath and pressed the button. He held up the walkie talkie to his mouth.

"Bayleef and Cyndaquil burn and cut down all these walls. Pikachu, make sure nothing weird happens," Ash commanded through the walkie talkie.

A burst of leaves and fire spattered all around, breaking down the walls in the building. The walls disintegrated into small chunks, but it only exposed more rooms. They couldn't see the flag. Suddenly the room began to shake. Pikachu, Cyndaquil, and Bayleef were lifted into the air with a purple outline surrounding them. It sparkled magnificently around them and eventually exploded utterly. All the walls were all completely pushed down, and all three Pokemon were forcibly thrown at the brick wall of the real skyscraper.

"Sartai has won the battle, you may come back in the next 24 hours," the voice over the intercom announced. Pikachu, Cyndaquil, and Bayleef stumbled through the door.

"It happened again. We again pick up almost no information and gain no experience whatsoever," Ash said.

"It's okay, Ash, at least we were able to see the flag? That's kind of close…" Misty said.

"Misty, I was 11 seconds into the match before I was defeated. That's embarrassing…" Ash said. He returned both of his Pokemon.

"Ash, you have to understand Sartai's an amazing trainer who knows what he's doing. Almost no one can beat this guy; you can't beat yourself up about it," Misty said.

Ash placed his Pokeballs back in his backpack, "Misty, why did we come here at all, just to gain no experience or training whatsoever," Ash said. "I'm seriously considering leaving this place," Ash said as they walked out the door.

"We can't leave now, Misty just got a job, and we've grown attached to this place already…" Brock said.

"I just don't know, Brock. If I keep making no progress just like this time, I might leave whether you guys want to come with or not," Ash said.

"Ash, we're in this together. Let's try to apply to that school. They could probably give us some pretty helpful tips," Misty said.

They walked back to the Pokemon Center in silence. Misty could hear her own footsteps and it seemed so much quieter in the town itself. Pokemon chirped happily in the background and top of the buildings and everyone was minding their own business biking and walking through the busy city.

Ash sighed. "I'm sorry, I'm not considering leaving. I'm just kind of mad. I'm sorry," Ash said.

"It's okay, Ash, I get it," Misty said.

"It's just so frustrating to get destroyed that hard in a match! Like, I got top 16 in the Indigo tournament and Top 8 in the Johto league just to lose in seconds every time?" Ash said.

"It's okay, Ash, we could probably learn a lot from that school, and you might be able to get it; these gyms don't come easy," Misty said.

"Okay, let's ask someone about this when we get the chance," Ash said. They walked into the Pokemon Center and the room. Brock started heating a can of instant noodles.

"I could make you guys one if you want, I'm not a big fan of instant noodles either, but they're cheap, and we haven't had breakfast," Brock said.

"I'll have one," Ash said.

"I'll have one too," Misty added.

Brock went to grab two more instant noodle cups out of the cupboards.

"Hey Ash, maybe we could go train Magikarp for a couple more hours and get some lunch later," Brock said, pouring the cups' water.

"Sure, it's gonna be a pain, but I appreciate your help," Ash said, patting Pikachu on the head.

"Can't believe we have to move out of here tomorrow. Are we ready to get an apartment?" Misty asked.

"Probably, apartments are surprisingly not that expensive here actually," Brock said, putting the microwave cups.

"Like how much do you estimate?" Misty asked.

"Probably around $500 a month actually, pretty surprising for a bigger city as this one," Brock said.

"Hm, you guys will need to get to a job soon, do you have any plans?" Misty asked.

"Not for right now, I haven't looked into one at all," Brock said.

"Damn, I hope it doesn't take you as long to find just one as it did for me," Misty said.

Brock chuckled, the microwave began beeping. He grabbed the instant noodles out of the microwave. Brock added some artificial beef flavoring to all the cups and distributed them to Ash and Misty.

"Let's eat fast. The sooner we finish, the sooner we can evolve Magikarp!" Ash said.

"I've never seen you in such a rush to evolve one of your Pokemon," Misty chuckled.

"Yep! I've always wanted a Gyarados," Ash said he ripped open the plastic to some of the utensils Brock gave him.

"I thought maybe you could destroy all the walls in the arena; that way, it would be just a standard Pokemon battle with no walls," Misty said.

"That idea isn't half bad Misty," Ash said. "It would just be a regular old battle with more of a fancier twist on it."

"Yeah!" Misty said.

Misty, Ash, and Brock eventually finished their noodles. They walked back down the bridge to go practice by the sand. Ash popped out his Magikarp, and Pikachu followed him along. This time Brock used Forretress. Forretress sat there, staring off into space. It had a rigid rock shape, so it was perfect for this kind of training.

"Magikarp, splash, Pikachu, thunderbolt!" Ash commanded.

Pikachu emitted a massive bolt of electricity towards Forretress. Magikarp just flapped up and down uselessly.

"Pikachu, just keep using thunderbolt, Magikarp, just keep using splash, I'm getting tired," Ash rubbed his hat and sat on the ground.

"Oh c'mon Ash, you gotta put more effort than that!" Misty said.

"Fine… just give me a second, Brock you've been quiet, are you okay?" Ash asked.

"Me? I'm fine. I'm just thinking about the whole haunted house thing. I had these weird visions of being stuck in rooms and flying through space with strange objects. The whole experience was so unpleasant as a whole. I felt like I was in entirely new dimensions that didn't even feel three dimensional…" Brock said.

"Yeah, I was in a world where Misty was wearing blue and green and had blonde hair and Brock, you had like goggles on your head," Ash said laughing.

"Heh, yeah, I don't wanna go back ever again, though. I know that if you could somehow control Drowsy, that would be an easy way to make $1000 a lot, but I don't think I could ever do that again. I felt like I was dead so many times," Brock said. Magikarp continued flapping, and Pikachu continued emitting the electricity the whole time.

"What'd you see when you were in there, Misty?" Ash asked.

"I was… in a town a lot like this. Everything had a moon logo all over, every single building, and we- we were in some strange places. I kept feeling like I was waking up, and I feel like it was trying to trick me into leaving…" Misty said.

"Anything else?" Ash asked, throwing another Pokeball out there. Pikachu returned to Ash, and Bayleef emerged. "Bayleef, use your razor leaf but use it lightly," Ash said. Bayleef looked back, confused.

"Well, you guys were standing there next to the buildings looking around. And Ash, you kept telling me to be quiet, I have no idea why," Misty said. "And, you were bowing to some figure, I think his name was C."

"C?" Ash asked.

"Yeah, C, he was just falling from the sky and landed in the middle of the street, and then everything just ended. I can't remember what happened," Misty said.

"Hm. That's weird. I wonder if what we saw had any meaning whatsoever," Brock said curiously.

"Prolly not, if it had meaning I wouldn't have any idea where to start," Ash said. Everyone watched Magikarp flop uselessly.

"Try making Magikarp use tackle, that's much more effective," Misty said.

"Magikarp, use tackle!" Ash demanded.

Magikarp continued to flop there.

"Didn't work, probably not a high enough level yet," Ash said.

This went on for a couple of hours. Ash occasionally switched out his Pokemon, but Forretress stood there like a rock taking all the hits from Bayleef and Magikarp. Magikarp's attacks didn't seem to improve much, if at all.

"Alright, we've been out here for a while, we should probably get some lunch," Brock said.

"My favorite," Ash said joyfully. "Return! Bayleef and Pikachu!" Ash held a Pokeball out and summoned Bayleef back into its ball.

Ash, Misty, and Brock went to the same restaurant they went to last night before the haunted house.

"Order whatever you want, we have all the money we could want," Brock said.

"I'll have a hamburger and fries," Ash told the employee.

"I'll just have some fries," Misty said.

"I'll have a hamburger," Brock asked.

"Okay, your total will be $9.26," said the employee.

"You're not getting anything else, Misty?" Ash asked.

"Nope, not that hungry," Misty said. Misty had rarely been hungry for most of her life.

They went to sit down to eat their meal at a booth table relatively similar to the one they were on the other night.

"Déjà vu," Brock chuckled.

"Heh, yeah," Ash said.

They ate their meals in silence while Misty checked her book and Brock started looking through the bill.

"Is that… Sartai?" Ash said, staring out the window. Brock and Misty both looked up. There was the same man wearing red sunglasses, but this time he was with someone different. He was again wearing another black cloak, but this time on the back of his shirt had a white silhouette of an orb and a grim reaper with a fiery background. They both had it on the back of their shirts. The other man he was walking with had messy black hair and was wearing a gray suit with the same white silhouette logo on his back. They didn't have any reporters on them this time. They again walked into the restaurant and ordered.

"Who's the guy next to him?" Ash whispered to Brock.

"I think that may just be 5pq," Brock whispered back.

"5pq? Like the numbers and letters 5pq? That's actually his name?" Ash asked.

"Yeah, he's one of the most prominent people in the community. He's started just like you and got good really fast. I read about him in a book when I was younger. I can't believe I'm seeing him in person right now," Brock said.

"Wow, I can't believe they're here twice in a row too," Misty said in awe.

Eventually, Sartai and 5pq left and went out on the streets and disappeared into the crowd again.

"Why is his name 5pq? That's kind of an odd name," Ash said.

"Well, you see Ash, they give the people who are in the soul guild names fit to whatever the leader of Soul wants. They chose his name to be 5pq," Brock said.

"They have a leader? Who is it?" Misty asked.

"Some guy, I don't remember his name actually," Brock said.

"Damn, things are getting hard to follow, there's team lunar, soul, what else?" Ash said.

"I don't know at this point; I wonder if Soul and Lunar are rivaling each other right now… like working against each other," Brock said.

"Probably not, I couldn't really see why Soul would get involved," Misty said.

"What was that thing on the back of their shirt?" Ash asked.

"That's the soul logo," Brock said.

"Oh," Ash said.

"Do you know anyone else in Soul Brock?" Misty asked.

"Well, I think one of my friends might be, but I'm not sure if it's him. When I was reading through the book, I found a guy named 'Redsy.' He kind of looks like someone I met when I used to live in Pewter City. I always wondered where he ended up going. I can't find him in any recent history books about Soul. I did find him in a members list from about two years ago," Brock said.

"Eh, I doubt it, Brock," Ash said.

"Same, actually," Brock said; he waddled up to his trash and put it on the tray.

"So, I was thinking about getting enrolled in school. The schools look like they take just about everyone, and most of them don't actually require an application, and you just need to pay when we get in. The school will be starting in around two weeks according to an article I read this morning when I was training with Ash," Brock said. "It'll probably be an amazing learning opportunity, plus a graduate degree in Oplux's University will get you far as a Pokemon trainer."

"You know, let's try it. I'll probably be able to get a job by then, and I need to beat Sartai," Ash said.

"I'll try it too," Misty said. Ash and Brock both looked back at her.

"Why are you going to?" Ash asked.

"I don't really know. I just wanna improve my water skills to be as good as possible. They'll probably have water-specific classes, right?" Misty asked.

"Yeah, probably," Ash said.

They got up to leave the restaurant and walked to where the university was. The university was surrounded by what looked like the only open field in the entire city. It looked a lot like a park and opened up behind the trees. The university was shaped like a box spanning several floors up and being about a third of the height of the skyscrapers around it. It was made out of beige bricks and had several windows symmetrically aligned across the different parts of the building. There were a couple of students roaming around the building that spanned from the ages of what looked like 12 to 18.

"Well, this is the university," Brock said, looking down at the map and back at the building.

"Do we just register inside the building?" Misty asked.

"Yep, we just select which classes we want to do," Brock said.

"It's that easy?" Misty said. "I thought it would be super complicated…"

"Yep, I'll go in with you guys to make sure you do it right though there might be a specific way to do it," Brock said.

They walked into the large entrance of the university. It was a large lobby with a crystal chandelier hanging high above them in the room they were in. The floor was tiled in red and white diagonal patterns, and there was a large spiral stairway stretching into what looked like the second, third, and fourth floor of the building. The lobby was very large and had a small library next to it with one table and two people sitting in chairs next to the table. There was a small line formed behind it.

"I think it's in that line right there," Brock pointed to the library.

They walked over and sat behind the line for a couple of minutes. Eventually, it came to their turn.

The old lady at the desk organized some papers. "Hello, I'm assuming you want to take the classes here?" said the old lady.

"Yep," Brock said.

"Okay, you'll need to take seven courses each semester, you can choose which ones you would like to take on this paper here," the old lady said. She counted three papers and passed them to Brock, Misty, and Ash.

"We might need some time to think this over. Could we come back and re-register when we've picked our classes?" Misty asked.

"Yep, that's actually what we personally recommend," the old lady said.

"Got it, thanks so much," Misty said. They left the university.

We're actually starting school. I can't believe it. Misty adjusted the paper to read the possible classes.
