Mom, Dad, Both of your Kids are Gay
Authors note: Yoooooo. I'm back hehe. I was feeling the excepting parents vibe this week because it's right after the holidays and some fellow gays probably had to deal with some shit parents and extended family. I'm sorry to those of you who did. As always please feel free to leave a review and let me know if there is any grammar/spelling I should fix. Have fun reading!
"This will be fine, right?" Harucchi asked nervously.
"Yeah, there's nothing to worry about at all!" Ryouskue encouraged, although the slight shaking in his voice made his nerves evident.
Ryouskue and Harucchi decided that, together, they wanted to come out to their parents about neither of them being straight. Sat on Ryouskue's bed and sounded by their fellow teammates who were more than happy to offer their support, Ryouskue picked up the phone and began to dial his home phone number.
The phone began to ring and he shut his eyes, anxiously waiting.
"You've got this, everything will be ok," Kuramochi, who was standing right behind Ryouskue, reassured him. Ryouskue mouthed a 'thank you' to him right as someone on the other line of the phone picked up.
"Hello," the voice said.
"Hey Mom, how are you?" Ryouskue bit his lip.
"I'm doing good! Nice to get a call from you." Ryouskue's mom replied happily, "How have you been doing?"
"I'm doing fine," Ryouskue gave a nervous laugh.
"Cut the small talk and just get on with it!" Jun whispered loudly in the background. He was quickly silenced by a glare from Harucchi and an elbow to the ribs from Kuramochi.
"Is there any specific reason you called? It's a bit late," Ryouskue's mom asked. Ryouskue looked down at the time on his phone, which read 12:32pm.
"Oh, I didn't realize how late it was. I can call back tomorrow if you want?" Ryouskue was definitely trying to talk his way out of having this conversation. Harucchi also looked hopeful at that prospect.
"No way, you're not getting out this that easy," Sawamura chided, moving to stand closer to Ryouskue's bed. It was strange to be receiving encouragement like this from Sawamura, but him being the only one who had come out to his family sort of made him the expert here. Honestly, Ryouskue found his presents reassuring. If Sawamura could do it, so could he.
"No it's ok I can still talk, I just wasn't expecting you to be up at this time," Ryouskue's mom answered.
"Good, is Dad with you?" Ryouskue asked. He started tapping his foot against the floor.
"Yes he's right here, should I put you on speaking phone?"
"Yeah, I have something to tell you both,"
There was a faint rustling on the other line of the phone before a voice, presumably, Ryouskue's dad, called out, "Ohhh is this about a girl?"
Everyone in the room either face-palmed or attempted to hold back their laughter.
"You, flat out, couldn't be more wrong," Miyuki whispered through giggles to Sawamura.
"Yeah no, definitely not about a girl, Dad" Ryouskue deadpanned.
"Alright I can tell this is a serious matter, you can tell us anything," Ryouskue's mom murmured.
Ryouskue took a deep breath and glanced up at Kuramochi. He took Ryouskue's hand and squeezed it, the meaning behind the simple gesture was obvious though. It was a way for him to let Ryouskue know that he would be here for him. With his other hand, Ryouskue reached out and grabbed Harucchi's.
Ryouskue took a deep breath.
"Mom, Dad, I'm gay," Ryouskue's voice sounded confident and sure, but the anxiety he was feeling was clearly etched into the crease of his eyebrows and the way his hands slightly shook in both Harucchi and Kuramochi's grasp.
There was silence at the other end of the phone.
"Oh honey," Ryouskue's mom's voice cut through the quiet of the room, "that's just fine with us."
Ryouskue let out a laugh and all the tension seemed to flow from his body. Harucchi had his hands covering his mouth and looked as if he was going to cry from relief. Ryouskue and Harucchi exchanged a look of pure happiness. Both of them were going to be just fine. Their parents were excepting of them.
"I'm glad to hear that," joy painted Ryouskue's words.
"Of course," Ryouskue's dad spoke, "Did you think we wouldn't be ok with it? No matter what you're still our son and who you love doesn't change that."
"Yes, it's a part of what makes you who you are and we could never dream of hating that," Ryouskue's mom agreed.
At those words, Harucchi completely lost it and burst into tears. Ryouskue didn't look like he was too far off from doing the same.
"Thanks guys, you don't know how much that means to hear."
"Of course, we love you so much," Ryouskue's dad murmured.
"So...is there anyone special we should know about?" Ryouskue's mom teasingly asked. Ryouskue glanced up hesitantly at Kuramochi who gave him an encouraging nod, along with everyone else in the room quietly cheering him on. Ryouskue giggled.
"Well..." he trailed off, letting the meaning of his words hang in the air. Ryouskue's mom gasped.
"So there is! You have to tell us everything!"
I will, I will, I will but..." Ryouskue looked up at Harucchi, silently questioning if he was really to take the phone. Harucchi gave him a short nod and whipped away his tears. "But someone else needs to tell you something first," Ryouskue finished. He passed the phone along to Harucchi who placed it against his ear.
"Hi guys," his voice shook with held back tears.
"Hi honey, how are you doing?' Harucchi's mom asked.
"I'm ok," Harucchi's eyes began to well up with tears again.
"Your brother said you had something to tell us as well?" Harucchi's dad inquired. Harucchi burst into tears all over again.
Before anyone could say anything, Sawamura was already at his side with a comforting arm around his shoulders. Ryouskue was close behind him too.
"You know it's going to be ok," Ryouskue reassured him, "you heard what they said to me." Harucchi nodded and whipped his tears away again.
"Honey...are you gay too?" Harucchi's mom's voice asked from the other end of the phone.
"I'm bi actually but...yeah I'm not straight," Harucchi said with a quiet laugh
"Well, the same thing goes for you as your brother," Harucchi's dad said.
"There's no need to cry honey, we love you no matter what," Harucchi's mom soothed.
"Yeah your right, I have no clue why I was so nervous, you two are the best," Harucchi laughed.
"Of course!" Harucchi's dad said brightly.
Ryouskue and Harucchi talked with their parents for a bit longer before saying their goodbyes and hanging up the phone. They both briefly exchanged a look and fell into each other's arms. Everyone else around them cheered.
"See I told you it would be ok," Kuramochi affectionately ruffled Ryouskue's hair.
"I know, I know, it was still a bit scary!" Ryouskue exclaimed. Harucchi nodded in agreement.
"I'm glad we did it though, I feel better having them know now," he sighed.
"Yeah," agreed Ryouskue, "So who wants to go next?" Harucchi giggled at him.
"What, you want someone else to come out to their parents on the phone?" he asked.
"Yeah," Ryouskue smirked, "Miyuki, what about you?"
"No," Miyuki said darkly.
"Oh come on it feels scary for a bit but it's with it!" Ryouskue encouraged.
"I'm not doing it," Miyuki repeated sternly. There was a spark of something unrecognizable in his eyes...
"OK," Ryouskue relented, clearly picking up on the fact that there must be more to the situation than Miyuki was letting on to. He turned his gaze over to Kuramochi.
"How about you?" Ryouskue grinned slyly.
"Well-I-uhhh," Kuramochi stuttered. Ryouskue grabbed his arm and slowly pulled him onto the bed. Harucchi giggled again.
"Come on you gotta do it!" Harucchi encouraged. Kuramochi stared at Ryouskue and Harucchi before letting out a long sigh.
"I hate you both, you know that right," he muttered while fishing his phone out of his pocket. Everyone around him cheered him on as he dialed his home phone number.
